@ the anon who messaged me abt allena in their outfit from the cover, look; i did it! i also drew laviyuu bc i only ever draw memes w/ them

I can’t believe this is going to be my first content related post EVER! Personally, I’m more on the digital side when it comes to lecture note-taking and organizing any assignments or tests I have in any of my classes. When I first heard of myHomework, my initial thought was to try it out because if there was something I needed to remember and I didn’t have any written materials available, I can just open the app on any of my devices (compatible with all Apple products), add the data needed then manually copy it into my journal later on.

When I installed it onto my laptop, the first display listed a simple guideline of the basic functions the app provides and the layout of the design before logging into your account with visible instructions and guidelines as described below:

I’ve previously had an account from high school so when I logged on, my classes from my first semester were present and a notification on an overdue quiz from the previous year appeared:

Also as you can see, my background is now a soft, dewy pink theme which can easily be changed to any colour you like!

Note: The current theme I have is a basic theme! The more extravagant themes are only available through premium purchase but honestly (in my opinion), if you’re not too deep into digital detail, the basic themes should suit you just fine as the primary productivity of the app is all the same!

I decided to update the current data listed and list my university classes. Since I have a lot of classes to add, I’ll just use one class as an example to show how the app works. (I decided to cut the step where I refreshed it since it’s a bit extensive and unnecessary but if you want to know how I did it just let me know and I’ll make another post on that!)

I decided to use my biostatistics course as a reference so when I added my biostatistics class, there are multiple ways to add your classes! Logically, I would use the plus (+) button on the right hand corner on the “Classes” column but you may find that it can (at times) be unresponsive to your command >:| so you may have to find an alternative.

Alternative: You can access the option of adding a class by interacting with one of the homework assignments listed below and clicking on the pencil icon.

From there:

Now, if your teacher uses this app you can find them by using the Find Your Class option. Unfortunately, if you’re like me, dusting off chalk lint at the end of every lecture, then you’ll have to manually add the classes as indicated below:

Here, you can add your classroom schedule and modify it as much as you please if there are any unexpected changes:

End Result:

If you ever want to label/add more detail:

End Result (blurred out location and teacher name for privacy reasons):

I will also show you how to add assignments which is pretty simple and straight forward once you know your way around the app. For example, I want to add an upcoming tutoring session which will be happening later this week. I would click the (+) symbol on the right side of the “Upcoming” column (luckily more responsive than the classes command):

Which will give out this display which will then require you to fill out any mandatory/optional spaces needed and to save once done:

Note: I enjoy the amount of flexibility this app has to offer despite using it’s basic features (ie. adding extra information and specify the type of homework being assigned.

To conclude, it will appear in the upcoming column in ascending order of the due dates. There is also an option to edit, delete or mark off the assignment as complete.

Aside from it’s bright theme selection to keep me interested in the app, I really enjoyed how we can use colour coordination to separate various subjects and making it easy to use. I am unsure whether or not whether there is a difference between this app and MyStudyLife (i’ll do a comparison text after this.) but regardless, it still gets the job done.

QUESTION: Is there a huge difference between the basic and preminum features on myHomework?

A: I was able to recheck the offer of upgrading which only costs $6.99/year which offers the following options below:

They don’t inflict on the overall use of the app and based on the experience i’ve had so far, the ads were not as annoying as I thought they would be, but if anyone has said otherwise please let me know!

Hope this helped out a lot and if you have any questions and/or concerns please send me a message or inbox me and I’ll get back to you as soon as possible!

all for the game ≡ character portraits — dan wilds

By ‘the girls’ she meant her stage sisters. Dan, aka Hennessey, had gotten a fake ID back in high school so she could work as a stripper in a nearby city. The hours worked well around her classes and Exy schedule, and it made the money she needed. Her aunt was unemployed and stuck at home with a newborn. Dan somehow had to support all three of them. Dan said she stopped talking to her aunt the second she moved out, but she kept in touch with her former coworkers. Supposedly they were all waiting for her to become a hotshot star.

— The Raven King, pg. 251

“Better?” Dan asked when his modified schedule loaded. “Look here. You had a break between history and speech, right? Now you’ve got two open periods. You can squeeze your tutor hours in there if you want. You have one morning class on Tuesdays and Thursdays, so you have all that time until practice for sleeping and homework. Works out perfectly, don’t you think?”

Neil was more interested in the sleeping than the homework part. “Yes, thank you.”

“Don’t thank us, remember us,” Dan said. “We’re your teammates. We’re here to help you with whatever you need, whether it’s this or games or general stress. We’ve all got different experiences, but we’re used to needing help. We’re just not used to getting it. But you’ve got us now.”

Strictly Business

Drabble: “Request can be found here @akutagawahakuryuunosuke
Pairing: Do Kyungsoo/D.O. x Reader
Word Count: 3077
Notes: This turned out a lot longer then I originally intended, omg. I hope you like it regardless!
Warnings: Some cussing Suggestive stuff??
Genre: Ceo/businessman!au

The first time you had met him, your employer, you were shocked. You always imagined Do Kyungsoo to be some old, wrinkly man who was an asshole of a business. Of course, he did have his asshole moments, but Kyungsoo was anything but old. In fact, he was actually really young, it seemed like to you, to be owning a business all by himself. But maybe that’s why he had decided to order interns and other workers. Maybe that’s why he had hired you.

“And I can trust you to handle this position maturely, correct?”

The look on Kyungsoo’s face was unreadable as he looked you over. To say you were nervous, fidgeting slightly under his intense gaze as your heart hammered loudly in your chest, was a complete understatement. It took all of your strength to hold his gaze, as you were very tempted to look anywhere except him as you stood in the middle of his large office. The collar around your neck seemed to tighten as you tried to swallow your nervousness, causing Kyungsoo to raise an eyebrow.

“Y-yes sir,” You gave a deep bow of respect as you held a small sheet of instructions close to your chest, hoping that the folder the instructions were in wouldn’t flop out of your grip and on to the ground. “You won’t regret hiring me, I’ll make sure of it.”

You realized your choice of words probably weren’t the pest when Kyungsoo’s eyebrows shot up to his hairline, and you couldn’t help but flinch as he let out a small chuckle. “Good, now get to work, Miss y/n.”

That was your very first time meeting with Kyungsoo, and you really had wished it wasn’t such an uptight and strict meeting. Of course you didn’t carry your own company upon your shoulders, so you didn’t know what it was like to have that kind of life, but Kyungsoo was still human, so maybe it wouldn’t hurt to try to make friends. But you did know that it was basically forbidden to try and make friends with the boss, except for if you were his second-in-command. And that was a position you certainly did not have in the company.

The second meeting that you had with Kyungsoo happened a few months after the first, and it wouldn’t actually be considered a meeting. You had decided to come to the office a bit earlier than usual, just so you could try to get a few extra things done before it was time for you to leave. You were making a couple of copies for three other workers and yourself, when footsteps to your left suddenly scared you out of your sleepy daze. To your surprise, Kyungsoo seemed to be dragging himself towards his office, the cup of coffee gripped firmly in his hands not having the intended effects on him as he thought they would.

“Good morning, Mr. Do.” You made sure your voice was quiet as you spoke, being sure to not startle him or anything as he shuffled past you. “Have a good day today, sir.”

Your words seemed to surprise Kyungsoo as he came to a stop a few feet away from you, either that or he didn’t hear you probably due to his half-asleep state. “Miss Y/n,” Kyungsoo tried to stifle the large yawn that came from him as he paused, causing you to laugh just a bit as he raised his hand, which happened to still be holding on to the coffee up, up to his mouth. “You aren’t supposed to be here for a few more hours.”

“I know,” You nodded, giving him a small smile before turning back to the copy machine to grab your new stack of papers before placing them into a folder. “I wanted to get a few extra things done today, so I came a little bit early.” Placing the folder on to a stack of other projects, you turned to fully-face Kyungsoo before folding your hands in front of you. “Have you had a good morning so far?”

Your question definitely caught him off guard, and he reeled back just a bit in surprise as his eyes widened. “I— well.. it’s been pretty good, yeah,” A small smile of gratitude formed on Kyungsoo’s face, and he raised his coffee to his lips to take a small sip before continuing to speak. “It’s been slow and tiring though, hence why this is my third cup today.”

“Third? But it’s only Eight!”

“Exactly.” A small laugh rumbled in Kyingsoos chest as he shook his head in annoyance, and the smile on his lips could be clearly seen as he looked back to you, raising his coffee cup before backing away a bit. “Well, have a good day, Miss y/n, work hard.”

“You too, Mr. Do!” You gave him a small wave as he turned to walk to his office, and you too turned away from him to grab your stack of folders. Once they were secured in your arms, you were careful to back away from the copy machine so you could walk back to your desk, but a voice suddenly stopped you before you could do so.

“Ah, wait a minute, Miss y/n.”

You turned your head just a bit to see Kyungsoo standing halfway inside his office, his hand stretched out in front of him as he wiggled his fingers in your direction. “Yes, sir?”

“Would you mind meeting me in my office in a little bit? There’s a few projects that I need to be done, and I feel you could finish them up properly.”

This time it was your turn to be the one to be caught off guard. Your eyes were wide with shock, and your mouth almost dropped open, but you were quick to shake yourself out of the surprise. “I— uh— sure! W-what time did you need me, Mr. Do?”

“It doesn’t matter, really, once you finish your other project, just knock.”

“Okay, thank you, Mr. Do!”

That wasn’t the last time you were asked to assist Kyungsoo in his office, as he had requested you to almost be his personal-assistant, it seemed liked. The first time you had walked into his office to help him, you thought that maybe he needed some help with something important, but in reality, he just wanted you to rearrange his wide variety of books that he had placed on to his large book shelf. Just some small task that he could do all by himself, he asked you too do as he sat at his desk, typing away quickly on the large computer set in front of him.

After about the fifth time you had been called into Kyungsoo’s office to help him with organizing some projects, or to file something, you finally gained the courage to ask him why he had called you to do this task. But you were quickly cut off as he ‘shh'ed you, and he raised a finger to gently press it against his lips as he only glanced in your direction.

“It doesn’t matter,” He replied quietly, waving his hand dismissively before going back to typing something on to his computer. “Don’t worry about it, now get back to work.”

It was also about this time that you noticed the little glances he would shot you every time you would walk past him, or the small twitch in his lips that he fought to hide as he made small talk. Every once in a while Kyungsoo would call you to his desk with a wave of his hand, and of course you complied as the good employ that you were. It was during these moments you noticed how close he seemed to lean towards you, or the small touches he’d place against your shoulder or wrist to steer you towards another direction. The lingering touches and longing looks confused you, as the relationship that you held with Kyungsoo was supposed to be strictly business. But is that all it was?

You had worked your usually work schedule today, though of course it had been modified so that you could fit time in to work with Kyungsoo. And that just so happened to be where you were now, in his office. He had said that he needed to finish a separate project outside of the office, so you were free to start on your jobs until he got there to relieve you for the day. You had only gotten about half-way through the list by the time Kyungsoo finally showed up, the door to his office opening with a small creak as he slowly stepped inside.

“Ah, I’m almost finished, Mr. Do!” You called out to him, only turning your head to face him so that you could toss him a friendly smile before turning back to your project on hand. You were rearranging his book shelf again today, and since the height of the shelf itself was much taller than you were, you had to focus in order to keep from falling over as you stood on top of a large stool. “How was your—

“Can I ask you a question, y/n?” Kyungsoo was quick to stop your question as he stepped closer to you, standing just a few feet behind the stool as he tilted his head back to look up at you. “I don’t mean to interrupt, but it’s a bit important.”

“Of course, what do you need?”

“Well, come down from there first,” Kyungsoo was now standing beside the stool, and he gave your calf a small tap with his finger before taking another step back. “I wouldn’t want you to hurt yourself while trying to answer.”

You gave a small nod in reply to the small command, as you agreed with him in not wanting to get hurt either. Quickly placing one last book on to the shelf, you pressed a hand against one of the dozens of books to steady yourself as you began to lower you bottom a bit. Having placed himself pretty close to you again, Kyungsoo gently grabbed one of your forearms to help you keep your balance, the other hovering behind your back just in case you accidentally slipped. This small action didn’t seem to bother you a whole lot; however, when he decided to instead slide his hands to rest of either side of your hips, you couldn’t help the small gasp that came from you.

“U-um.. w-what was it that you n-needed to ask me, Mr. Do?”

He didn’t reply at first, instead he continued to help you down from the stool until you had been seated as comfortably as you could on the wooden stool. Even once that task was complete he refused to answer just yet. There was a look in his eyes, you noticed, that seemed a lot different from the usual gleam he held within his eyes, but it wasn’t an off putting look, in fact it looked, in a way, sexy.

Kyungsoo’s hands were still resting against your hips a he stood in front of you, but the grip he had on you tightened just a bit as he slowly wriggled his way closer to you, separating your legs just a tad so that one of his own could rest in between them perfectly. “Tell me, y/n,” He finally spoke, and the sultry tone that could be clearly heard in his voice caught you off guard a bit as he leaned closer to you. “What do you think about me?”

“What goes on in that pretty little head of yours, about me, hm?” His lips were dancing close to your ear now, causing a small shiver to run down your spine at the new feeling. Slowly he raised a hand, his fingers gently running over your goose-bump littered skin until his hand came to rest on the base of your neck. “Tell me, y/n.”

His new actions came as a complete and utter surprise to you, and your heart was now racing out of both shock and anticipation. You couldn’t seem to form any words at the moment to reply to him, only the sound of your labored breathing being heard. The little touches he left against your skin tingled in the slightest way, and while the one hand resting against your neck pulled softly against your hair, the other resting on your hip drew tiny circles against your skirt, both actions causing you to squirm under his touch just the slightest bit.

“Are they kind thoughts?”

This was an easy question for you to answer, so you gave a quick nod instead of voicing your reply, as you were completely sure that your voice would be shaking if you tried to speak at all. “Good, good answer, sweetheart.” A small chuckle bubbled up from within Kyungsoo’s chest, and almost in an congratulating manner he gently pressed his lips against the side of your neck, his tongue making a short appearance against you skin before he pulled away.

“W-what ar—”

“Ah, let me finish, sweetheart.” Kyungsoo smirked a bit as he gently placed his hand against your mouth, and he raised his head to look you square in the face, making sure to keep eye contact. “One last question and then you can speak, okay?”

You kept your eyes on him as best as you could as you nodded. The entire situation had you on the edge of the stool, both mentally and physically. Kyungsoo had fully placed himself in between your legs now, filling the space as best as he could with his body as he pressed you flush against him. One of your legs was wrapped around his hips while one of your hands had come to rest on his shoulder, the other was tightly fisting the front of his shirt as he leaned back to your ear, his lips readily brushing against your skin before he spoke again.

“Now tell me, your thoughts..” Kyungsoo knew how to push your buttons with his words. You weren’t exactly sure what to except when you opened his mouth again to finish his sentence, but you definitely weren’t expecting him to instead attack your neck once again with his lips, but this time instead of with just one kiss, it was multiple ones. Your gasp was audible as you felt his lips move rhythmically against your skin, and his teeth were sure to make an appearance as he nibbled on to your skin, his warm breathing fanning over the newly marked area as he pulled away to speak again. “Are they dirty thoughts?”

He didn’t give you time to reply properly as he continued to ravage your neck. So when a low moan fell past your lips instead of words, Kyungsoo suddenly stopped, and the hand that was holding you on to the stool roughly pulled you towards him as he once again raised his head to look you in the eyes. “Oh my, they are, aren’t they.” His voice was low, and the look that was in his eyes darkened dangerously as a smirk formed quickly on his swollen lips. “Do you wanna kiss me, y/n? Is that what you think about?”

You hadn’t meant to, but just the mention of his plump lips against your own caused you to shift in your seat closer to him, and couldn’t you help but glance down to his lips a bit before looking back up into his eyes. Even though his lips were no longer placed against your neck, his hands still moved swiftly against your body, his fingers gently tickling the curves of yours sides and up your back as he slowly went to cup your face and neck again. “Come on, sweetheart, use your words.”

“Kiss me,”

A soon as those words slipped past your lips Kyungsoo basically lunged forward, attacking your lips viciously with his own as he pulled you closer to him. One of your hands immediately went up to grasp his hair while the other wrapped around his shoulders, your teeth clashing together painfully as he pressed his mouth on to yours. Your lips moved against each other’s fiercely, and in a bold move he tugged your bottom lip a bit with his teeth before bringing it to rest in between his lips.

He was sure to be slow as he gently suckled your bottom lip, the pleasurable action eliciting another small moan to come from you. “So talkative, aren’t you sweetheart,” Kyungsoo was quick to pull away from your swollen lips, almost causing to pout in sadness, that was, until his decided to attack your neck once again. You automatically let your head fall back to allow him more room as his mouth worked on your neck, sucking new red marks on to your skin as you tried your hardest to keep yourself from making any other noises.

“U-um, Mr. Do?”

Almost immediately Kyungsoo removed his lips from the side of your neck, and he quickly yet gently grabbed a hold of your head to hide your face from view by pressing you closer to his chest. “What?” His tone was harsh and biting as he looked over to whoever had walked in on you. “What’s so important that you had to disturb me now?”

The intern who had walked in was frozen in both shock and fear; shock from what she had witnessed, but fear from the terrifying look that was being tossed towards her by her boss. “N-never mind, s-sir!” The intern gave a quick, deep bow in apology before stepping back out into the hallway, closing the door behind her and this time, making sure that it was completely locked. “I apologize for disturbing you!”

“Aish, stupid intern, why didn’t she fucking knock?” A low growl rumbled from Kyungsoo in annoyance, and after eyeing the door to make sure that it was locked, he turned back to you. “I’m sorry about that, sweetheart,” His gaze softened just a bit as he went to cup your face in his hands, and he leaned forward a bit to this time softly press his lips against your own. “Are you willing to try that again? Hopefully this time, without any disturbances.”

“O-of course.”

“Ah, just the answer I was hoping to hear.”

anonymous asked:

Any advice for parents wanting to home school? I'm scared people are going to advise me of being a brain washing cultist.

I’ve been SOOO excited to answer this ask because I have so many good things to say about homeschooling! Actually, if I’m honest, I have absolutely nothing bad I can possibly think of. I was homeschooled all the way through 12th grade and there is nothing I would change. I will ALWAYS be grateful to my parents for devoting themselves to me in that way, and especially my mom for sticking with it - from the rocky years of highschool, to back when I was an elementary brat. Looking back, we agree it was worth any struggles tenfold.

The first thing you need to know is this: you will be ridiculed. At some point, somewhere, someone is going to criticize you. Whether it be your teaching, your abilities, your discipline, or your morals, the world is going to try and push you down. Therefore, you need to be confident, you need to know your motivation as to why you are doing this, and know that, as the parent, only you know what is best for your child.

A good way to kindly explain that to someone is to know the benefits of homeschooling. And the list is long!

— Homeschooling gives you the freedom to specifically tailor the curriculum to your child’s needs. Whether going slower or faster, you can go at a pace that is comfortable to you and your child. For example, division was a nightmare for me as a child, but I was reading at a 12th grade level by early grade school. Therefore my algebra was slow moving and required a lot of repetition, but I blew through English.

— Homeschool students as a whole score significantly higher on standardized testing, with the low range being 15-30% improvement, and typically score above the average collage admission test. All of this is regardless of the education level of the parents and any degree of formal they may have. You don’t need to be a certified teacher or have lofty degrees to teach your children effectively.

— Building off both the other points, I would argue that homeschooling leaves you over prepared for college. I briefly mentioned math is not my strongest suit. I thought, in going to college, that I would be behind, but I actually placed significantly higher than I thought I would. Socially, homeschoolers are generally more prepared as well, for as where public schoolers function primarily with their same age group, homeschoolers tend to be more accustomed to a variety of ages - from toddlers to senior citizens - and that can allow one to adapt well into different class, work, and social settings.

— For those with illnesses, physical or mental limitations, homeschooling’ flexibility is a definite asset, as it allows you to modify your schedule as needed, even on a day-by-day basis, and you don’t have the stress and pressure of missing school days - you can do the work when it is convenient for you.

— Homeschooling encourages enjoyable learning and self-motivation. I going to the aquarium and watching the school kids have to breeze through it in two or three hours. But for us homeschoolers, we could spend all day there, and we did! Why? Because I found it fascinating! I would read every brochure on the tropical fish, ask questions of the staff as I pet sharks and sting rays. Homeschooling doesn’t limit learning, it encourages exploration and deep thinking. You don’t have to rush through.

— Homeschooling encourages family bonding. Most the time, we all did school in the same room, either at the kitchen counter or consuming the kitchen table in books and papers. We would take a break from math and mom would read to us everything from history to science to fiction. Reading was a huge part of my homeschool life, and even now that I’ve long since graduated, my family still likes to read aloud together.

— It saves time. Where my public school friends were in school for eight hours a day and then spent several hours on homework, I got my school done in an average of four hours max. I would be done by noon, and the out climbing trees with my brother for the rest of the day. Learn about the world and then go live in it! I would have missed out on so much if I hadn’t been homeschooled.

— This next point is very important when you’re talking about “brain washing”. Public schools are growing increasingly more aggressive toward adverse opinions, any mention of God, and in many cases are implementing revisionist history. Not even biology is taught correctly anymore with this distorted view of sexuality. Homeschooling allows multiple view points to be explored and allows for deep research into why such a point is incorrect, what actually happened historically, ect. Public schools expect things to be taken at face value too much of the time. Homeschooling promotes critical thinking and exploration. You don’t just slam the door on counter views, you talk about them and discuss it. Additionally, homeschooling is not just for the religious. There are many people, including atheists, that homeschool simply because they recognize the benefits to their lifestyle and, most importantly, their child.

— Homeschooling protects your child. We have all heard people talk about how “sheltered” homeschoolers are. The only thing I was ever sheltered from was bullying, profanity, sexual jokes and harassment, violence, and peer pressure. I had many social circles and events (the joke among homeschoolers is often that they’re never home), but it was always in a positive environment. I would have been so much more insecure if I had had to face the things all my public school friends did, but instead I grew up knowing I could be confident in who I was. On the same note, it is important to make sure your child has a healthy amount of social interaction. Awana, youth group, various clubs, sports, are just a few ways you can make sure your child is active.

— Homeschooling saves money. Both within your home, and in regard to tax dollars spent toward public schools. There are great monetary and economical benefits to homeschooling.

— Public schools are a fairly modern development. For thousands of years the bulk of one’s early learning was done at home or in a relatively small school where you still received that one-on-one instruction - very similar to homeschooling. The norm was not 30-40 kids with one teacher. It wasn’t the massed produced learning you see today.

Now a few more things before we go…

There is a HUGE array of curriculum out there, you can pick and choose from a virtually endless myriad of resources. Find what works for your child. Know that often what works for child #1 does not work for child #2. I went through three math books until I found what really worked for me. Don’t be afraid to try different things. (And also look for homeschool book sales to buy at! You can save lots by buying used)

FIND A SUPPORT GROUP. This is HUGE for you as a parent because when challenges arise, and I PROMISE you they will, you are going to want someplace to look for solid advice. A network of good friends, co-ops, homeschool church groups, homeschool academies - whatever it is, find a group of homeschoolers near you where you can ask questions, present your challenges, and get positive feedback. More so than that though, you need encouragement. The best people to give that to you are people who have been in the same spot.

Know your legal rights as a homeschooler. I would highly advice checking out the Homeschool Legal Defense Association (HSLDA). They have fantastic resources on a general basis, but it is really important to know your rights as a homeschooling parent. At the very minimum, check out the state requirements and know what you’re obligated to do. When I was homeschooled, I didn’t need to take hardly any standardized tests, but there were a lot of people saying I needed to. So even small things like that are really important to know (it saved me a lot of anxiety).

Homeschooling isn’t always easy, but I promise you that the rewards far outweigh the cost. It is worth every moment. There are few ways better than this to show your child just how very much you love them.

Last thing! I came across this nifty page with all sorts of facts and statistics on homeschooling that is an easy and enlightening read [x] and a quick shout out to my many friends that brainstormed with me on this (readers, I hope you know you’re getting the best advice out there thanks to them! ^^ )

Mirror pt 3

Part of this might be a little off because I wasn’t able to find a good reference for the beginning of the game without watching it all over again whoops. That’s ok that’s what editing is for.

It’s still sulking when Alex returns, his posse of operators following. It glances up at them, then folds tighter into itself.

“Come on, back to work,” Alex says.

It doesn’t bother to flip him off.

“What’s wrong with it?” Igwe asks. “There’s nothing different about its vital signs or brainwaves.”

“It’s sulking,” Alex says.

“I told you you shouldn’t have insulted it,” Mikhaila says.

“It was encouraging teasing!”

“It was mean. It’s been doing its best.”

“Well it isn’t now,” Sarah says. She floats closer to the glass. “Get up. You want us to treat you better, you have to earn it.”

It looks at her. It knows she’s right, it’s the one that’s an experiment to tame an alien monster, but it still feels like it isn’t fair.

And it isn’t mad at Sarah. Or at any of the operators, really. It still feels responsible for them, even if it’s saving them (or finding their bodies, so many bodies) wasn’t real. It’s only mad at Alex, for acting like he knows better as usual and rubbing it in its face.

When Morgan got in a fight with Alex, it tended to linger.

Phil Kessel Infodump -anon submission

(fun fact: I started researching this a long time before I read the Phil article because the same water weight retention stuff happens to some dudes who have had testicular surgery, post-menopausal women taking hormonal hot flash treatments, and women (especially teenagers) on modified-schedule hormonal birth control. It doesn’t always happen, and Phil just seems to have had *really* bad luck with it.)

I’m the anon who read the article about why Phil’s softness is deceptive and sent info to Bee. From what I remember, according to Pens training staff Phil and Sid are actually around the same body fat %, and Phil is in better shape in terms of cardio and stamina than about 90% of the NHL. He just retains more water weight and holds water weight closer to the skin than most people because of hormone regulators.

There’s a mostly shirtless photo of him that shows it pretty well - he doesn’t have visible abs and what looks like chub sits lower/less evenly than it would if it was body fat, whereas if you look at NHL players who are a bit lazy about conditioning and/or diet plan but still work out at an NHL level (example, rookie Jamie Benn or off-season Ovi) they have a hint of ab definition on top of a slight belly because when losing belly fat the subcutaneous (on top of the abs) fat is easier to burn off than the visceral (under the abs) fat.

His calves also look a lot more like Sid’s (100% muscle, noticeable curve inward from the calf muscle to the achilles tendon) than Rookie JaBenn’s (solid-looking but with a bit of chub instead of the really obvious sharp angle) and if you look at his hands in the hot dog photo you can see that the widest part of each finger is at the second knuckle, whereas if he were actually overweight it would be right in between the first and second knuckle unless he had *really* bad joints (example of what that looks like: Keith Richards, who isn’t visibly overweight but you can see what I’m talking about w/ the joints).

His slightly premature receding hairline and extremely soft-looking playoff beard are also likely caused by the same meds. If anyone is worried about why pens staff are putting out so much of Phil’s medical info, I didn’t get most of this from them. They pretty much just talked about his amazing stamina and the fact that he and Sid are actually pretty similar in terms of conditioning (almost the same official weight, similar body fat % and only an inch official height difference and probably less IRL) and how strong he is, credited the soft look to cancer treatment, and I pulled up my pages and pages of previous research on the topic because I remembered reading that the surgery used to remove testicular cancers can sometimes have side effects that are treated similarly to how hot flashes are treated.

So, they aren’t spreading detailed medical information, I just happened to have a stockpile of relevant info from researching my birth control side effects. Most of the random details about his appearance that I used as examples of the difference between retained body fat and retained water weight are just things I’ve learned to pay attention to from hours of figure drawing classes, and/or things I’ve spent too much time glaring at in the mirror.

I didn’t actually spend hours staring at photos of Phil Kessel and comparing them to various vintages of shirtless Jamie Benn.    (Rookie JaBenn has become my go-to example for not-quite-pro-level conditioning, sorry! He’s pretty much peak now but he’s the rare guy who didn’t get a good trainer until after going pro so he’s easy to use as an example, especially since I can compare rookie-JaBenn to Sochi-JaBenn, and have the combination of picking up cool info, having image references of the exact same body type at different fitness levels and have an excuse to watch the way his abs and shoulders move when he plays shirtless table tennis)

So yeah. Summary: anon has spent too much time researching side effects of artificial hormone regulation, and doesn’t know how to be concise. Phil Kessel is soft and cuddly; and is fitter, stronger and has better stamina than most of the NHL. It can therefore be concluded that Phil Kessel gives better hugs than pretty much anyone else on the planet.

spidey’s notes: I LOVE IT WHEN WE SHARE INFORMATION (spidey’s fun fact: my special talent is researching and retaining information that’s useless 95% of the time) THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR GIVING US ALL OF THIS INFORMATION ANON- I hope it’s okay i reformatted it a bit to make it easier to read

also, everyone admits that Jamie Benn has had the most successful glo-ups of any NHLer. rookie JaBenn was a soft chubby and it’s all okay.

Hogwarts Class Scheduling

Back when I was young and had more time on my hands, I sat down and figured out the Hogwarts class schedule.

(And by young I really do mean young–check out the last modified date on this!)

Here was the information I had to work with:

  • There is, apparently, only one teacher per subject.
  • A class can be comprised of students from two houses. (But from what we see in the books, no more than two.)
  • After 5th year OWLs, all classes become much more advanced, and students only take the ones that pertain to their career path and NEWTs.

I took that info and ran with it, as well as throwing in some headcanons of my own. For example, I gave Hogwarts a block schedule. (There’s really no way to get by with only one teacher per subject if each class is held every day.) I also made upper-level elective classes inter-house. (Again, the teacher shortage is difficult to work with.) The only class not on this schedule is Astronomy. I figured that since that class could only be held at night, each house/year group would only have it once a week at most.

I wish I’d had tumblr back in 2012, because no doubt I had a lot more thoughts on this than what I’ve remembered and written down above, but hopefully this can help any fic authors trying to keep track of who’s where and when. :)

Request by anon: I also love BIG BANG <3, so there is another TOP request, a day as a married couple when you have like 3 or 4 kids (you can have twins or triplets) after you two had a hectic schedule at work. You can modify the scenarios if it’s not okay

Yeah, BigBang have got to be one of my favourite groups. I seem to love pretty much all the groups beginning with B, haha. Aw this was so cute to write!

The television was on mute and the only sound to be heard was the sound of your baby boy, Ilhoon which you’d actually taken to calling Illie lately, gurgling quietly in your arms as you settled down on the big cream leather sofa in the living room.

You didn’t bother turning on the tv - little Ilhoon was entertainment enough.

You couldn’t help it, you just couldn’t get enough of him. Everytime you put him down for nap, you missed him. You actually missed him being in your arms.

In awe, you gazed down at him. A smile leaped onto your face when he opened his eyes and looked up at you.

Seunghyun had been heartbroken that none of them got your electric blue eyes, but you had always hoped that they would look more like Seunghyun anyway. You loved it - you loved the fact there was now three more sets of Seunghyun’s eyes in the world.

Even though Ilhoon was young and his features had barely taken form yet, you could already see that he had dark brown eyes, tiny little replicas of his dad’s.

just a heads up that i’m going to be staying off this site for about the next two weeks — i’ve been feeling eh lmao and i have to consider a lot of changes in my life and i just have not had the energy to commit to anything at a certain length for a while (i can’t be fucked to binge on tv shows either). this also applies to my rp threads.

i’ll still check my dash once or twice a day and try to reply to any messages that come my way, but skype, discord, and text (if you have my number) is really the best way to contact me. i just need a short hiatus from my normal routine to binge 3 minute videos on hours on end because i’m lifeless and dead. i also need to run quite a few errands that i’ve spaced out to accommodate my schedule, so yeah!

this might shorten or modify depending on what i feel comfortable with, but the main point is that i’m going to be incredibly sparse these next two weeks.

we’ve been in school nine (9) days and one mom has already emailed me six (6) times and the principal one (1) time. That’s almost one full email for each day we’ve been in school and because we have a modified block schedule I’ve only seen her kid four (4) times so she’s emailed me more times than I’ve ever even seen her kid.

How to Begin Your Fast

How you begin and conduct your fast will largely determine your success.  By following these steps to fasting they will make your time with the Lord  more meaningful and spiritually rewarding.

Why are you fasting? Is it for spiritual renewal, guidance, resolution to problems, healing, for special grace to handle a difficult situation?  Ask the Holy spirit to clarify His leading and objectives for your prayer fast.  This will enable you to pray more specifically and strategically. Through fasting and prayer we humble ourselves before God so the holy spirit will stir our souls, awaken churches, and heal our land according to 2 Chronicles 7:14.  Make this a priority in your fasting.

Pray about what kind of fast you should undertake.  Jesus implied that all of His followers should fast. (Matthew 6:16-18   9:14, 15) for Him it was a matter of when believers would fast, not if they would do it.  Before you fast decide the following up front:

How long you will fast - one meal, one day, a week, several weeks, forty days (Beginners should start slowly, building up to longer fasts.)

The type of fast God wants you to undertake (such as water only, or water and juices; what kinds of juices you will drink and how often)

What physical or social activities you will restrict

How much time each day you will devote to prayer and God’s Word

Making these commitments ahead of time will help you to sustain your fast.

When physical temptations and life’s pressures tempt you to abandon it.

The very foundation of fasting and prayer is repentance. Unconfessed sin will hinder your prayers. Here are several things you can do to prepare your heart:

Ask God to help you make a comprehensive list of your sins.

Confess every sin that the Holy Spirit calls to your remembrance and accept

God’s forgiveness (1 John 1:9).

Seek forgiveness from all whom you have offended, and forgive all who have hurt you (Mark 11:25; Luke 11:4; 17:3,4).

Make restitution as the Holy Spirit leads you.

Ask God to fill you with His Holy Spirit according to His command in Ephesians 5:18 and His promise in 1 John 5:14,15.

Surrender your life fully to Jesus Christ as your Lord and Master; refuse to obey your worldly nature (Romans 12:1,2).

Meditate on the attributes of God, His love, sovereignty, power, wisdom, faithfulness, grace, compassion, and others (Psalm 48:9,10; 103:1-8, 11-13).

Begin your time of fasting and prayer with an expectant heart (Hebrews 11:6).  Do not underestimate spiritual opposition. Satan sometimes intensifies the natural battle between body and spirit (Galatians 5:16,17).

Fasting requires reasonable precautions.  Consult your physician first, especially if you take prescription medicines or have a chronic ailment. Some persons should never fast without professional supervision.

Physical preparation makes the drastic change in your eating routine a little easier so you can turn your full attention to the Lord in prayer.

Do not rush into your fast.

Prepare your body. Eat smaller meals before starting a fast. Avoid high-fat and sugary foods.

Eat raw fruit and vegetables for two days before starting a fast.

Your time for fasting and prayer has come.  You are abstaining from all solid foods and have began to seek the Lord.  Here are some helpful suggestions to consider:

Avoid drugs, even natural herbal drugs and homeopathic remedies.  Medication should only be withdrawn only with your Physicians supervision.

Limit your activity.

Exercise only moderately. Walk one to three miles each day if convenient and comfortable.

Rest as much as your schedule will permit.

Prepare yourself for temporary mental discomforts, such as impatience, crankiness, and anxiety.

Expect some physical discomforts, especially on the second day. You may have fleeting hunger pains, dizziness, or the “blahs.” Withdrawal from caffeine and sugar may cause headaches. Physical annoyances may also include weakness, tiredness, or sleeplessness.

The first two or three days are usually the hardest.  As you continue to fast you are likely to experience a sense of well- being both physically and spiritually.  However, should you feel hunger pains, increase your liquid intake.

For maximum spiritual benefit, set aside ample time to be alone with the Lord.  Listen for His leading.  The more time you spend with Him the more meaningful your fast will be.

Begin your day in praise and worship.

Read and meditate on God’s Word, preferably on your knees.

Invite the Holy Spirit to work in you to will and to do His good pleasure according to Philippians 2:13.

Invite God to use you. Ask Him to show you how to influence your world, your family, your church, your community, your country, and beyond.

Pray for His vision for your life and empowerment to do His will.

Return to prayer and God’s Word.

Take a short prayer walk.

Spend time in intercessory prayer for your community’s and nation’s leaders, for the world’s unreached millions, for your family or special needs.

Get alone for an unhurried time of “seeking His face.”

If others are fasting with you, meet together for prayer.

Avoid television or any other distraction that may dampen your spiritual focus.

When possible begin and end each day on your knees with a spouse for a brief time of praise and thanksgiving to God. Longer periods of time with our Lord in prayer and study of his Word are often better done alone.

A dietary routine is vital as well. Dr. Julio Ruibal, a nutritionist, pastor, and a specialist in fasting and prayer - suggest a daily schedule and a list of juices you may find useful and satisfying.  Modify this schedule and the drinks  you take to suit your tastes and circumstances.

5:00 to 8:00 A.M.

Fruit juices, preferably freshly squeezed or blended and diluted in 50 percent distilled water if the fruit is acid. Apple, pear, grapefruit, papaya, watermelon, or other fruit juices are generally preferred. If you cannot do your own juicing, buy juices without sugar or additives.

10:30 A.M. - noon

Fresh vegetable juice made from lettuce, celery, and carrots in three equal parts.

2:30 P.M. - 4:00 P.M.

Herb tea with a drop of honey. Avoid black tea or any tea with caffeine.

6:00 P.M. - 8:00 P.M.

Broth made from boiling potatoes, celery, and carrots with no salt. After boiling about half an hour, pour the water into a container and drink it.

Drinking fruit juice will decrease your hunger pains and give you some natural sugar energy. The taste and lift will motivate and strengthen you to continue.

The best juices are made from fresh watermelon, lemons, grapes, apples, cabbage, beets, carrots, celery, or leafy green vegetables. In cold weather, you may enjoy a warm vegetable broth.

Mix acidic juices (orange and tomato) with water for your stomach’s sake.

Avoid caffeinated drinks. And avoid chewing gum or mints, even if your breath is bad. They stimulate digestive action in your stomach.

Begin eating gradually.  Do not eat solid foods immediately after you fast.  Suddenly reintroducing solid foods to your stomach and digestive tract will likely have negative, or even dangerous, consequences.   Try several smaller meals or snacks each day.  If you end a fast gradually, the beneficial physical and spiritual effects will result in continued good health.

Here are some suggestions to help you end your fast properly:

Break an extended water fast with fruit such as watermelon.

While continuing to drink fruit or vegetable juices, add the following:

First day: Add a raw salad.

Second day: Add baked or boiled potato, no butter or seasoning.

Third day: Add a steamed vegetable.

Thereafter: Begin to reintroduce your normal diet.

Gradually return to regular eating with several small snacks during the first few days.  Start with a little soup and fresh fruit such as watermelon and cantaloupe. Advance to a few tablespoons of solid foods such as raw fruits and vegetables or a raw salad and baked potato.

If you sincerely humble yourself before the Lord, repent, pray and seek God’s face;  if you consistently meditate on His Word, you will experience a heightened awareness of His Presence (John 14:21).  The Lord will give you fresh new spiritual insights.  Your confidence and faith in God will be strengthened. You will feel mentally, physically and spiritually refreshed. You will see answers to your prayers.

A single fast is not a spiritual cure-all.   Just as we need fresh infillings of the Holy spirit daily,  we also need new times of fasting before God. A 24 hour fast each week has been very rewarding for many Christians.

It takes time to build your spiritual fasting muscles.  If you fail to make it through your first fast do not be discouraged.    You may have tried to fast too long the first time.  Or you may need to strengthen your understanding and resolve.   Maybe try a shorter fast and work your way up to longer periods.  Take it to the Lord in prayer and see where He leads you.

1. Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal any un-confessed sin in your life.

2. Seek forgiveness from all whom you have offended, and forgive all who have hurt you. Make restitution where God leads.

3. Examine your motives in every word and deed. Ask the Lord to search and cleanse your heart daily.

4. Ask the Holy Spirit to guard your walk against complacency and mediocrity.

5. Praise and give thanks to God continually in all ways on all days, regardless of your circumstances.

6. Refuse to obey your carnal (worldly) nature (Galatians 5:16,17).

7. Surrender your life to Jesus Christ as your Savior and Lord. Develop utter dependence on Him with total submission and humility.

8. Study the attributes of God.

9. Hunger and thirst after righteousness (Matthew 5:6).

10. Love God with all of your heart, soul, and mind (Matthew 22:37).

11. Appropriate the continual fullness and control of the Holy Spirit by faith on the basis of God’s command (Ephesians 5:18) and promise (1 John 5:14,15).

12. Read, study, meditate on, and memorize God’s holy, inspired, inerrant Word daily (Colossians 3:16).

13. Pray without ceasing (1 Thessalonians 5:17).

14. Fast and pray one 24-hour period each week. Prayerfully consider becoming one of the two million Christians who will fast for forty days before the end of the year 2012.

15. Seek to share Christ daily as a way of life.

16. Determine to live a holy, godly life of obedience and faith.

17. Start or join a home or church Bible study group that emphasizes revival and a holy life.

Never forget that all glory and honor go to The Lord Jesus Christ..  May He bless you!!!

Here is the long-promised info post! AT LAST

Basically a lot of us wanted to read/reread the TVD books (L.J. Smith books only, naturally), and this is our chance to read them together!

We had our kick-off meeting this past weekend, just to try out the meeting platform and test the waters, so to speak. If you missed this meeting, don’t worry, everything we discussed will be outlined in this post. The meeting platform seems to be in working order, so now all that’s left to do is to get reading/discussing!

To join, head over to our group on goodreads, HERE. We have some forums and discussions set up there for anyone looking to chat in between meetings. Also, that is where I’ll be posting any group announcements, meeting links, etc.

Here are the books we will be reading:

  • The Awakening
  • The Struggle
  • The Fury
  • Dark Reunion
  • The Return: Nightfall
  • The Return: Shadow Souls
  • The Return: Midnight
  • Evensong: Paradise Lost
  • Evensong: The War of Roses

If you are having trouble procuring copies of any of the books (particularly international readers who may have difficulties accessing the two Kindle Worlds “fanfiction” books), please let us know, and we’ll see if we can help!

We will be meeting for discussions every 2 weeks (Sundays at 2:30PM ET), and the reading assignments in between are about 60 pages, depending on which version of the books you have. Here’s the schedule for the first two books:

Feb. 8 - The Awakening, Ch. 1-4
Feb. 22 - The Awakening, Ch. 5-8
Mar. 8 - The Awakening, Ch. 9-12
Mar. 22 - The Awakening, Ch. 13-16 (end)
Apr. 5 - The Struggle, Ch. 1-5
Apr. 19 - The Struggle, Ch. 6-10
May 3 - The Struggle, Ch. 11-16 (end)

Please have the denoted chapters read before the meeting date, as we will be discussing them at that time. If, after we begin, we find that this schedule is moving too slowly or too quickly, we can absolutely modify it.

If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to me at my personal blog bonneibennett or message myself and Sara at bookbamonbookclub.

Double Agent Vader fic: The Unstolen Child

@tendokage asked what Double Agent Vader thinks of the Inquisitors, which gave me the kick I needed to finally finish this fic.

This one is set between ANH and ESB, so follows almost all of the fics I’ve published in this ‘verse so far, except for Apology Accepted.

A little insight into what Ahsoka’s been up to in the Rebellion, as well as why the Empire seems to be mysteriously short on candidates for the Inquisitor Program…

The Unstolen Child

Ahsoka crouched low in the musty darkness of the cramped closet and focused all her thought on disappearing. Emptiness, she thought. I am nothing. We are nothing. We are air and shadow and there is no presence here.

Behind her, Aneeya Adu was shaking soundlessly in the dark, one hand clasped over her daughter Oholi’s mouth. Ahsoka knew they were there because she could feel the air they displaced, the solidity of other bodies in a close space. But she couldn’t sense them in the Force.

She had to make certain that remained the case.

The cop who killed #EricGarner got a $15,000 pay increase last year, making $119,996

Pantaleo earned $119,996 in fiscal year 2016, which includes earnings between July 1, 2015 and June 30, 2016. His base pay was $78,026 and he earned $23,220 in overtime, according to a review of payroll records. He received an additional $12,853 in unspecified pay, which could include retroactive pay or bonuses.

Police commissioner Bill Bratton said in July that the department’s own investigation into Pantaleo’s actions is “for all practical purposes,” completed.

The payroll records suggest that, as of July, Pantaleo had not yet received any disciplinary action from the department that affected his earnings.

Asked about Pantaleo’s overtime earnings, NYPD spokesman John Grimpel wrote in an email,

“At times, officers are required to work beyond their scheduled tour of duty. This includes officers on modified assignment.”

This is so irritating, kill someone at your job & dont lose your job & hey get promoted ugh..
