What with the 40 degree temperatures, it reeeally isn’t possible to take photos out of doors now, so I thought I might do a makeup look! My inspiration is from the makeup at John Galliano’s F/W 2009-10 show, in particular this image which I found on Pinterest a very long time ago. I love a bit of gold on my face. The highlight of this look is my MAC Superslick liquid liner in Pure Show which is actually the best gold eyeliner I’ve ever come across. I added to the vintage circus-y vibe with my ASOS Denim smock and Flimsymoon Etoiles Collar.

Here’s what I used for my face

Sleek makeup Be Beautiful Blemish Balm    Benefit Boing concealer

Benefit Cha Cha Tint    Rimmel Colour Rush Balm in Rumour has It    MAC Superslick Liner in Pure Show

Maybelline Lasting Drama gel eyeliner    Rimmel Scandaleyes Rocking Curves mascara   Maybelline Brow Drama eyebrow mascara

Back To School Must Haves : Makeup Products (All Drugstore)

I cannot believe summer is over, I am personally very sad/anxious. I go back to school & start back working next Monday and I know its going to be a struggle getting back into that routine that I have been out of for 3 months. I’m preparing to be more than overwhelmed seeing as how I will be in school full time & working full time! I usually bounce back pretty fast so hopefully I have a decent transition *fingers crossed* I enjoyed my much needed time off, but its time to get back to it.

ANYWAYS, I asked you all if you wanted to see a Back To School post and many of you said that you did so thats what I am here to do for you all.  Now if I am going to be honest, when it comes to makeup. I wear very little to no makeup going to class. I have to take very early classes to be able to get to work on time in the afternoon so I don’t usually feel like doing my makeup in the mornings, but if I do I keep it light and fresh. This post is going to feature all drugstore products so everything is affordable :)

Now if I do take the time to do my makeup I really focus on my face. My face is my favorite part of doing my makeup, and for those early mornings it’s going to really help you look awake. You wanna make sure that before doing any kind of makeup application that you have properly cleaned and moisturized the skin.

Face Products (Foundation):

L'oreal True Match: I like this foundation because it is lightweight and not a foundation that’s too heavy for school. There is a wide shade selection so any complexion & undertone can find a foundation that looks right on them. If you have dry skin I recommend using the True Match Lumi.

External image

Rimmel Stay Matte Foundation: This is GREAT for those of you who have oily skin, this foundation is so beautiful on the skin. It gives a good amount of coverage and keeps you matte for quite some time. I like that this doesn’t look cakey on your skin, and it looks so natural. The key for makeup is to help it enhance your natural beauty.

External image

Garnier BB Cream: I am beyond obsessed with this product right now, I have been wanting to play with BB creams for so long now but BB creams tend to run very light and have no decent shade selections. I love this BB cream, they have four shades and deep is the shade that works for me. This product is pretty full coverage but looks SO natural. You can’t even feel this product on the face, this is going to for sure be my go to product for school this year. If you have combo to oily skin, make sure you get the combo to oily skin formula. If you are dry make sure you get the regular formula.

External image

Concealer:

Maybelline Fit Me Concealer: This concealer is very nice, this is very similar to the NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer which I love but is expensive and this is a really nice cheaper alternative!

External image

Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Concealer: Love this, the shade selection isn’t the best but the darkest shade in this range is wearable enough for me to use as an under eye highlight which I loved. This covers darkness underneath the eye area really well which will be essential waking up at the butt crack of dawn for school :)

External image

Powders:

Rimmel Stay Matte Powder: Very inexpensive and does exactly what it claims. It helps take away any shine off of the face and keep you matte which is an oily girls dream.

External image

Blush:

ELF Blush Palette: I don’t necessarily think blush is always needed for school, but I really do like the ELF blush palette. This here is only $6 and you get 4 very pigmented blushes. This blend so well, and I love the finish of them. They come in two palettes: Light & Dark but I love them both, and I wanna get my hands on the light palette.

External image

ELF HD Blushes: Cream products are very ideal when it comes to makeup because I feel cream products look the most natural on the skin. I love ELF cream blushes because they are so pigmented & only $3 these blushes last forever on the skin, and come in such beautiful shades. Just be careful because I promise a little tea size amount will take you a long way.

External image

Milani Baked Blushes: I have to mention these because they are freaking amazing. I LOVE these blushes, they give such a gorgeous sheen to the cheeks. I usually am not for shimmery blushes, and when you first glance at these they look shimmery as hell but the sheen they put on the cheeks is just perfect.

External image

Rimmel Stay Blushed: Another cream blush that I LOVE these are so pigmented and creamy and give such a healthy look to the skin when these are on. Plus I think these were around $2 which makes my bank account smile :) Apricot Glow is the perfect everyday blush!

Bronzer:

NYC Sunny: This bronzer isn’t for me seeing as how its not dark enough for me but I have used this on others and it looks really good. This is really good for contouring and adding some more color to your skin. This bronzer is a pretty good dupe for Benefit Hoola, not an exact dupe but probably the closest that you will get.

External image

ELF Contour/Blush Palette: I only use these for the bronzers, but I love these they have several different palettes for a variety of skintones. I love Turks & Caicos and use it daily.

External image

Brows:

Milani Brow Kit: If I’m not wearing any makeup I usually always do my brows though because I have the ultimate struggle brows but I love doing my brows because I really feel as though they shape the face. I love this milani brow kit for filling in the brows, and making them look natural and not harsh. It comes with two brow powder, I recommend using the lighter powder for the inner part of your brow, and then using the darker powder on the outer half of the brow to help that the brows look as natural as possible.

External image

NYC Brow Pencils: I love to use a pencil to outline the shape of my brow and then go in with a powder to fill in my brows. This pencil is really good to use to get a nice define brow look.

External image

Eyeshadow:

Maybelline Eye Studio Quads: Now I don’t necessarily think that eyeshadow is necessary and I usually don’t wear it but if you do wanna wear eyeshadows I recommend these. They are some of my favorites at the drugstores they are so pigmented and blend amazingly. Plus all of their quads have such pretty eyeshadows.

External image

NYX Single Eyeshadows: I love NYX they make some really good quality makeup for great prices. I love their single eyeshadows, which many are MAC shade dupes. Usually if see an eye shadow at MAC you can usually find a shade that is the exact same or very similar from NYX.

External image

Eyeliner:

Maybelline Gel Eyeliner: Love this, I like to use this on my waterline because I have really watery eyes and anything can make my eyes water and this does not budge or smear.

External image

Rimmel Scandaleyes Eyeliners: I love these so much because these eyeliners are so soft, creamy, and pigmented so they don’t tug or pull on your eyes.

External image

L'oreal Slim Eyeliner Pen: This is a liquid eyeliner that is a pen form, which I think makes it more easier to work with. I love how black this eyeliner is remember ( the blacker the better ;) )

External image

Mascara:

L'oreal Voluminous Carbon Black: One of my favorites mascaras hands down, and one of the best at the drugstore. I love how black these make my lashes, and unlike many mascaras that claim to give volume this mascara actually gives my lashes tons of volume.

External image

Maybelline The Rocket Mascara: An oldie but a goodie here, I love this mascara this really lengthens my lashes and makes my lashes look like I have falsies on when I really don’t.

External image

Lips:

NYX Butter Glosses: I think yall knew this one was coming lol I LOVE these. I wear these ALL the time, and I love all of the shades & how creamy these are. These are the perfect go to lip glosses for school.

External image

Revlon Lip Butters: These are another favorite lip products of mine from the drugstore, these are so moisturizing & many of these lip butters give really good amounts of color to the lips. I can’t really describe the formula of these but its basically like a lipstick & lip gloss mixed together. its perfect.

External image

NYX Chunky Dunk Hydrating Lippies:  These are basically tinted lip balms, and I love how these feel on the lips & the color they give off is really nice more than I would expect. These give off the perfect color: not too much & not too little.

External image

ELF Tinted Lip Conditioners: OBSESSED. I don’t know how I wasn’t living with these in my life before but I love these. They smell so good & the texture of these are perfect. I love the color payoffs which makes these perfect for a nice everyday lip.

So that is it! I hope you guys found this somewhat informative, and you have an idea on what makeup would suit you best for school. I hope you all have a great school year!

Soft Winged Liner Tutorial

When I posted that I was thinking about doing a soft, smoky, powder winged liner look teamed with glossy purple-plum lips I immediately got a response from so many of you guys to create a tutorial. This is a gorgeous, simple, chic and sophisticated makeup look that anyone can do and is great for proms/formals/cocktail parties and more. I love to wear it with glamorous hollywood style waves and hair tucked behind one ear but it also looks great with an updo.

Watch the video tutorial above or keep reading to see a step-by-step picture guide.

I decided to do something a bit different with this holiday makeup look when Sreejita gave me an entire pack of nail art decals a while ago. (I’m not a nail person, I just can’t be arsed.) I’ve been seeing this image floating around the interwebs for goodness knows how long now, so I thought I could do my own take on it. Here’s how I went about things:

I did my usual base with the Smashbox Camera Ready BB Cream and the Make Up For Ever HD Microfinish Powder. I’ve grown to like a more natural looking finish than I used to, and I don’t like complicating my makeup routine with way too many products, so it’s BB Cream all the way for me! I personally prefer the Sleek BB Cream with regard to texture, but the Smashbox one is closer to my winter skin tone, so it’s what I’m using at the moment.

Then I lined my upper lids with the Maybelline Gel Liner (eyeliner of choice for 2 years now!) followed it with MAC’s Superslick Liquid Liner in Pure Show on my lower lids, and did my upper lash line with Rimmel’s ScandalEyes Mascara. I brushed my eyebrows into shape with a brow brush and followed it a swipe of Maybelline’s Brow Drama Mascara. I love using a mix of drugstore and pricier makeup, and Rimmel and Maybelline are my most favourite cheap+excellent brands.

Now, I wanted to get hold of some eyelash glue to stick the little stars on with, but it was impossible to get hold of at short notice, so I went with some good old Boroline. Boroline - the pride and joy of all Bangalis - is an intensely sticky borax and lanolin based cream that’s used to treat everything from chapped lips and cracked heels to minor cuts and burns. In its absence, you can use Vaseline just as effectively to stick similarly sized decals to your face. This Etsy store has a huge variety of holographic stars, hearts and glitter by the way, if you’re looking to recreate this look! I used an old lip brush to dab the Boroline in tiny bits onto my cheek, and applied the stars one by one with my index finger.

I finished the look with understated, stained lips, using a mix of the Sephora Cream Lip Stain in Always Red and the Josie Maran Lip and Cheek Creamy Oil that I’ve posted about before. My ASOS velvet spot dress (which I’m yet to style properly on the blog eep!) and star hairclips by Flimsymoon went really well with it, I thought. This wasn’t a hard look to do at all, and I hope it can serve as inspiration to go out of your comfort zone with makeup once in a while! After all, this is coming from someone who was terrified of makeup not so long ago, and I wish I’d discovered the fun of it way earlier! So happy experimenting, and happy holidays everyone!

Best Contouring Products

Strobing may be a major makeup trend at the moment, but that doesn’t mean we all can’t benefit from a little contouring here and there to give the face a little more shape and definition. I’ve tried hundreds of different contouring products, but these are the best contouring products such as creams, gels and powders that I have tried. Prefer a video? Purple Reign.

I purchased a bunch of glitters from Violet Voss a while back and this is  my first chance to actually use them. I was amazed at how easily the products applied! I didn’t use very much product and I didn’t have a panic attack because I was getting glitter all over my room, so that’s great.

The Steps:

1)  Apply ‘Tangerine’ from the Lorac Mega Pro 2 palette to crease (or you can use  any orange)

2) Follow with ‘Saddle’ from the same palette (or any brown)

3) Cover lid with Rimmel Scandaleyes eye shadow stick in ‘Blackmail’

4) Get rid of harsh lines using ‘Black’ from Lorac Mega Pro 2 and a crease brush

5) Cover lid with Violet Voss’ ‘Brooklyn’ Glitter Using adhesive

6) Draw line as shown using Color Tattoo by Eyestudio in Painted Purple

7) Apply Nyx Eye Pencil in ‘Purple’ to waterline

8) Smudge ‘Deep Purple’ from the Anastasia Beverly Hills Self- Made Palette into lower lash line to get rid of harsh lines

Additional Products Used:

Face: Anastasia Beverly Hills Dip Brow- Ebony, Mac Studio Fix Foundation NC45, Face Studio Master Concealer in Medium 40, Ben Nye SK-3 Shadow Wheel, Ben Nye Banana Powder, Black Radiance Pressed Foundation Powder- Rich Mahogany and Ebony, and Mac Soft & Gentle Highlight

Eyelashes: Andrea 45 Black

Lips: Nyx Liquid Suede in ‘Amethyst’ , Nyx Soft Matte Lip Cream in ‘Abu Dhabi’ , and Nyx Eye Pencil in ‘Purple’ to create the perfect ombre

Makeup Cheat Sheet: Do This, Wear That

First Date: Think bright. Bright future, bright features, bright as fuck. Highlighter on cheeks and the on the cupid’s bow, undereye concealer and nude eyeliner on the rim. Look awake and alive. Try: NYX Born To Glow Liquid Illuminator and Maybelline Instant Age Rewind.

Girl’s Night Out: Can’t go wrong, ever, with black cat eyeliner and purpley lips. Repeat after me—I Am The Dark Queen. Do Not Forsake Me. Try: Stila ‘Stay All Day’ Liquid Eyeliner and MAC lipstick in Heroine. Classic on all skin tones.

Shit, I’m Hungover And Still Have to Be Somewhere: If I have 5 minutes to put on makeup and still want to look somewhat presentable, there’s a trifecta to remember here. It’s blush, concealer, and mascara. Rosy blush makes you look flushed and alive, concealer to cover up the dark spots and clean up your skin, and mascara to look coherent and mostly not like a corpse. Try: Maybelline The Rocket Mascara, Benefit Blush in The Rockateur.

Staying Out All Day (Class, Work, School): Simple, basic looks that won’t melt off in the sunlight. Translucent Powder, Light Lip Gloss, BB Cream with SPF will make you look FRESH, which is a thing we all want to look like, even though it describes Douches and Citrus Drinks as well. Try: NYX Butter Gloss in Tiramisu, and Garnier Skin Renew Miracle Skin Perfector B.B. Cream.

Staying Out All Night: If you’re planning on ending up in a diner at 4am, noshin’ on eggs and burping gin, you’ve got to be prepared to wear makeup that lasts. Full-Coverage Foundation, Setting Spray and creaseless shadow are a must. Try: NARS Matte Foundation, Urban Decay De-Slick Makeup Setting Spray and Maybelline Color Tattoo THE METAL collection. Also related: my drunk diner order is an egg-white Western Omelette and fries with American cheese and gravy. I KNOW.

But Mama, I want A Smoky Eye: If you’re yellow-toned, try a copper smoky eye (copper crease, gold lid, white highlight). If you’re pink-toned, try a silver/grey trio (light grey lid, dark grey crease, silver highlight). If you’re darker-skinned, go wild and try a plum. It looks amazing with gold as a highlight and a lighter purple as a lid. Try: Naked One Palette for Copper, Maybelline Stylish Smokes for silver, and ELF Baked Eyeshadow in Burnt Plum for my favorite plum eyeshadow.

Classic Pinup Look: Red lips and cat-eye, yes, but don’t forget to contour your cheekbones with bronzer and apply a neutral eyelook with white eyeliner rim, a nude base, and a darker brown crease, blended out. You can’t go wrong with buying the Rimmel Scandaleyes in white and the Naked Basics Palette to have around for a Marilyn Monroe look. Just, like, stop misquoting the lady and let her RIP. To Try: NYC Smooth Skin Bronzing Face Powder in Sunny 720.

How to Prep Your Lashes For Mascara & Get The Most Out Of Your Natural Lashes

Everyone wants super long lashes but unfortunately without the help of false lashes and extensions they can be difficult to achieve. Rather than messing around with false lashes, glue and tears of frustration try using these tips to prep your lashes for mascara and get naturally long, thick looking lashes.

How to Prep Your Lashes For Mascara & Get The Most Out Of Your Natural Lashes. Products used: Clarins 3-Dot Liner, Shu Uemura Eyelash Curler, Lancome CILS BOOSTER XL, Rimmel ScandalEyes RetroGlam Mascara, Maybelline Great Lash Clear Mascara

Step 1. Start by tightling your eyes (dotting in-between your lashes with an eyeliner)

Step 2. Curl your lashes, start by curling at the base of the lashes, squeezing, then moving to the middle of the lashes, squeezing and then out o the very tip sand squeezing. This will give lashes the most lift.

Step 3. Wiggle a lash primer through the base of your lashes and continue wiggling it to the tips.

Step 4. Once the first coat of lash primer has dried, apply another coat.

Step 5. Ensuring that your second coat of lash primer has dried, coat the lashes with a good mascara. Try angling the outer corner lashes outwards, the middle lashes upwards and the inner corner lashes inwards for a full “fan” effect.

Step 6. Now move onto the lower lashes, start defining them by wiggling a clear mascara through the lower lashes, this will help enhance their length making them ready for mascara.

Step 7. Finish by applying mascara to your lower lashes using a simple “stamp” technique once the clear mascara has dried. Whether you choose to use your regular mascara or one with a smaller wand is up to you. As the lashes have already been defined you do not need to wiggle the mascara wand.

Step 8. You’re done!

Give Face for Real Cheap: The Best Beauty Products That Are Basically Under 10 Bucks (in the US)

I want you lovely people to be able to give major face, even on a budget. I know a lot of you are on a ramen noodle/well whiskey drink budget. I feel that. Makeup can be extraordinarily expensive, and although I’ve gotten some shit for making lists about drugstore makeup by people who believe drugstore makeup is crap (and if any makeup, drugstore or otherwise, irritates your face, return it immediately/set it on fire), I still stand by all this stuff.
