The Signs as Nymphs
  • Aries: Lampades, the nymphs of the Underworld; these nymphs serve both Persephone and Hecate, powerful goddesses, as ladies in waiting and torchbearers. Their skin and eyes glimmer like a candle's flame, colored a brilliant, heady orange or as dark as coal; their smiles are blinding and their laugh is like the crackle of a flame.
  • Taurus: Alseides, the nymphs of glens; Taurean nymphs reside in meadows and groves, basking in the sunshine, walking with the deer and caring for the plants and animals; their skin is always rosy and sun-kissed and it shimmers like gold and smattered with the same soft pattern as a doe, and eyes like a doe's as well, thick hair braided intricately and decorated with flowers.
  • Gemini: Aurae, nymphs of the breeze; Gemini nymphs drift through the air, playing with human's hair and dancing through the leaves. Their skin is a soft, silvery blue, smooth as the sky, only broken by the small scales scattered across their cheeks and joints, all radiant blue; their hair floats around them and their voice is like chimes.
  • Cancer: Limnades, nymphs of lakes; these quiet nymphs drift through the murky water of lakes, playing with the fish and basking with alligators and turtles, and seducing anyone who might pass by. Their skin shimmers dully, slightly green in tint and their faces are tattooed with dark green stripes that decorate their cheeks like a trail of tears.
  • Leo: Anthousai, nymphs of flowers; these playful nymphs play in the forests, fields and gardens, flirting with unwitting humans and decorating themselves with flowers and plants. They smell like lilies and jasmine so butterflies flutter around their heads; their skin is patterned like irises, brilliant purples, golds and pinks, delicate like a water painting.
  • Virgo: Hydryades, nymphs of the trees; these quiet nymphs reside within trees and forests where they care for animals. Virgoan nymphs' skin is camouflaged so that they may blend in with the trees, dark and intricate patterns which stretch across their backs and decorate their faces, eyes slitted like a reptile's.
  • Libra: Nephelai, nymphs of the clouds; Libran nymphs are very rarely seen by humans as they reside in the clouds; they are dreamy, quiet and peaceful creatures who fly with the birds and provide the world with rain. Their skin is like pearl which varies from the softest white to the angry grey of a storm, their eyes are as pink as the sunrise and their hair floats around them in a haze.
  • Scorpio: Naiads, nymphs of freshwater; these nymphs can be found in rivers, lakes and springs where they hunt fish and anything else that wanders too close to the water's edge. They also seduce any humans who happen upon them. Their eyes are large and dark to see underwater, their hair a messy tangle and nails long and sharp; their skin is scaled like a koi's but a brilliant silver or bronze.
  • Sagittarius: Epimeliad, nymphs of apple tress and flocks; Sagittarian nymphs follow flocks and explore the world around them, playing with horses and cows and goats and seducing their owners; when they sleep they return to their original state, an apple tree. Their eyes are bright like a spark, their hair white like apple blossoms and wool and their skin is patterned like the bark of a tree.
  • Capricorn: Oreiades, nymphs of the mountains; these nymphs are highly reclusive and quiet, they reside in the most remote mountains in the world and are very rarely seen by humans. They resemble the animal of their Sign, their pupils rectangular and their eyes a sharp gold, small horns curving from their foreheads; their hair is kept in tight pleats, their skin speckled softly to blend in with the jagged rocks.
  • Aquarius: Asteriai, nymphs of the stars; these nymphs live far away in the vast expanses of space where they drift and play in complete silence: constellations are their embrace, shooting stars their tears. Their skin is as brilliant as the sun, golden, red and even deep blue, and it shimmers in an unending pulse of light.
  • Pisces: Haliae, nymphs of the sea; Piscean nymphs reside in the sea and can occasionally be spotted dancing on the seashore. Their hair reaches their ankles, strands of pearls and shells woven within it; their skin has a pearlescent sheen from years spent in the water and small scales, pink and pearl-like, decorate their webbed hands and creep up their legs.

Hello! I was wandering: can you show me how you draw those beautiful claws from diffrent angles and stuff?? I been dying to know... :)

Im going to assume you mean deathclaws bc if not, @helmip has a far greater understanding of claws themselves and lil tutorials from a while back (and many things tbh, theyre great. as you well know lmao)
but i digress
seeing how any creature works in a 3D space helps immensely - I’ve had to take a huge amount of screenshots and videos, done a bunch of lil studies, etc. to the point where I no longer need to reference them, I know what features go where.
and of course, hyperanalyzing it for the sake of cosplay accuracy doesn’t go amiss either (the cosplay wasnt that accurate but the face scales are alright)

that being said, I’ve been drawing deathclaws wrong all this time bc I gave them a dip in their brow, when they’re actually a Fierce Rhombus

Note how scale placement and skin folds work! The hard scales around the eyes sweep out from the front corner of the eye, and then curve upward around the cheek. There’s also another line of scales that follows the curve of the teeth. This is all actually a pretty signature thing that Jonah does on his reptilian critters, it’s present on the Skyrim dragons too.
Front view is very angular and straightforward; everything sweeps up and back.

figuring out where hard and soft tissue goes also helps with expressiveness
but the hardest part is THEY DONT HAVE LIPS. any mouth expression would have to move their entire teeth which is fine if you know what you’re doing re:stylization. Different angles help if you convert the entire head structure into a Large Block

and their body is just a regular ol Fantasy Lizard Dragon Thing with a big tail (I like to give my ‘claws an extra fat tail so they look well fed and happy)

FUN TRIVIA FACT

Other than the plated scales, tough leathery skin, frilled head, horned skull anatomy and sinuous tail, mythological and folkloric dragons have very little in common anatomically with actual reptiles. They have MORE in common with the Felidae genus (cat family) and the Aves Phylum Chordata (bird classification).

Like a cat’s eye, a dragon’s eye has a comparatively large iris with a vertical pupil. This arrangement allows the pupil to open extremely wide and receive
more light than that of a human eye.

A dragon’s legs are also decidedly nonreptilian, despite the scaly coverings. A dragon’s legs are positioned more or less directly under its body, in the manner of mammals. (Most reptiles’ legs tend to splay out to the sides, offering
much less support and mobility than a mammal).

Lasly, a dragon’s four feet very closely resemble those of a great bird. Each foot has three or four clawed toes facing forward (the number varies, even among dragons of the same kind), plus an additional toe, also with a claw, set farther back on the foot and facing slightly inward toward the dragon’s body, like a human’s thumb.

A dragon’s resemblance to a reptile is literally only skin deep  So the next time someone you know refers to mythical dragons as giant lizards, you’ll have the know-what to save a life.

The Signs as Mermaids
  • Aries: a vibrant and beautiful creature, Arian mermaids reside in shallow, brackish water such as lagoons, sometimes playing tricks on nearby humans or even drawing ships to their doom with siren calls, their tails are a deep, blood red, marked with unclean, black stripes and fins that unfurl like fans at the end of their tail and its sides, as sharp and dangerous as their teeth, delicate webbing between their fingers
  • Taurus: these laid back beauties stick to mangroves and slow moving water, they decorate their bodies with the wonders of the sea: pearls, shells, and even the ocean life itself, allowing starfish to stick to their tails, they avoid others but will save many sailors from drowning, their scales are as golden as the sun, their fins strong yet tapered delicately
  • Gemini: these mermaids are often found in the middle of the sea, playing with dolphins or even whales, they often tease sailors and flirt with them relentlessly, their tails are particularly long and strong, scales so small they are indistinct though they creep up Gemini's stomach, their fins are awe inspiring shaped like wings at their back and trailing in a swirl behind them, a radiant blue and white like the surf
  • Cancer: these mer make their homes in coral reefs, curled up with eels and using clams as pillows, they protect the reefs from boats and fishermen, they hoard pearls and all other treasure they find, their skin and scales are almost translucent, resembling mother of pearl, and emit a soft light similar to the moon, yet their scales are hard like shell and their nails and teeth must be sharp to defend themselves and the reef
  • Leo: these mermaids are brazen, they often approach populated beaches, drawn by the laughter of the children they love to play with and often save from drowning, they decorate themselves with the treasures of the sea, braiding pearls and shells into their hair, wrapping beautiful plants around their waists, their tails are like sunlight, their eyes sharp and golden, and their fins almost heart-shaped
  • Virgo: these reclusive mermaids live in freshwater rivers where they hunt fish and play in the current, they clean the rivers of trash and help animals survive, algae creeps up their tails and their skin is splattered with markings similar to the pebbled riverbed, their tails are almost rough like an alligator's back and this skin creeps up their spines as well, colored a similar dark green
  • Libra: more siren than mer, these gorgeous beings often steal sailors away, seducing them with first their elegant voices and then their eyes as bright as the sky, they don't realize that they are harming the sailors, only taking them to a better place, Libran mermaids are like wisps of mist, airy and light, tails shiny and a gentle blue, fins delicate and wispy
  • Scorpio: no human has ever seen a Scorpio mermaid, they remain deep beneath the sea where few have ever reached, where no light touches, reclusive and secretive, their scales are as dark as the night but their skin is patterned with intricate swirls which emit a hazy, purple glow just as their eyes do, their tails are as lithe as an eel and finned in a similar manner
  • Sagittarius: who knows where you will spot this mermaid, they travel all over the world, from freshwater to the deepest depths of the ocean, constantly exploring and seeking out other mermaids and people alike, their scales are scattered across their body, the color of the sunrise, and their fins are a brilliant fan, ombre and almost ruffled as it creeps up their tail in layers
  • Capricorn: reclusive and quiet, these mer stay in deep water, very rarely coming to the surface, they are predators but do not attack humans as other mermaids do because they wish to be left alone, their tail is not scaled, rather more similar to a shark's flesh, a deep color that wavers between purple and blue, their fins hard and sharp, all lean muscle and dark eyes
  • Aquarius: these mermaids often hang around heavily populated beaches and even ports, curious about human beings and their technology, they often make friends with humans and visit them regularly, when not amongst humans they are exploring the ocean, their tales are a deep, regal purple, their hair long and tangled, a very similar color, and they decorate their bodies with strange items they find in the water
  • Pisces: these little mermaids are mostly reclusive but very curious about humans, they live in lagoons or among the mangroves, quiet and never imposing, they keep the animals safe and use their magic to keep the water clean, their scales are a deep magenta that glimmers in the light, fins as long as their hair, at their jaw rests a pair of fan-like fins that they use to scare away predators

The gold kelp dragons dwelt in the murky freshwater lakes in the east. They preferred the cold water and rarely adopted human form. When the ashblack dragons sought to unite the clans in the east, the golden lakedragons sank into the water and into a wet oblivion. Their natural ability to shift from scales to skin was gradually lost over time. The lakedragons had lost their way and became no more than beasts in the cold water.

Yet one lakedragon had not completely forgotten his sense of self. Demetrius still dreamed of the world above the slumbering sea. He would rise dangerously close to the surface, seeking the fat fish which fed on the rays of the forbidden sun. It was on one such hunt he finally surfaced, and became the first lakedragon to breach the water walls in decades. As Demetrius frolicked, others soon became aware through the native cranes that still fed at the great lakes that the lakedragons were making a return to the waking world.

I want every woman in this world, young, old, tall, short, big, thin, gay, or straight to look in the mirror. It is scientifically proven that we as humans primarily see our flaws when we look at ourselves. We pay more attention to them because we see ourselves everyday and see those flaws. Every woman needs to see the beauty that is in every one of their faces and bodies. You are not defined by a number on a scale, your skin color, your race, or the pimples that cover your face. You are defined by the content of your soul and heart. You are a beautiful, powerful, and successful woman of the world and don’t let anyone get in the way of that.

Hey there. I was at the pet store today and saw a beautifully colored albino cornsnake; fall colors of reds+orange and a little yellow, with some white. It made me wonder, why are they called albino's if they come in such vibrant colors?

GOOD QUESTION! So basically, albinism is a condition that knocks out a pigment called melanin. This is the primary pigment in many animals, including mammals and birds. It colors skin, hair, scales, feathers, and eyes. There’s different types of melanin that produce colors on a spectrum ranging from deep black to sandy blonde. But while melanin is the primary pigment in mammals, it’s not the only pigment in reptiles! Reptiles actually have two types of pigment-producing cells. The first, melanocytes, produce melanin. In an albino animal, those are basically turned off and the skin is white or pinkish from the blood circulating beneath it. But reptiles also have what’s called chromatophores. Chromatophores produce many other pigments. Two of these are xanthophores (yellow) and erythrophores (a range of red to purplish, depending on the species). Some reptiles have iridiophores (which produce iridescent colors) and there’s two other common pigments known as guanophores and leucophores (two different versions of white). Each of these pigments is affected by different mutations! So for example, my Kenyan sand boa is anerythristic, which means that the genes that control red pigment (the erythrophores) have been turned off- giving me a black and white snake instead of a black and orange snake like a normal KSB. My ball pythons are both axanthic, which means that the genes that control yellow pigment (xanthophores) have been turned off. These snakes don’t produce these pigments, and so that changes their color!

So that snake you saw was an albino in that they don’t produce melanin! But their other pigments are unaffected by the mutation, so they can still exhibit gorgeous shades of red, yellow, and orange!

Hi! I was wondering if you had any dragon aus? Like humanoid ones. Thank you!

  • “Normally my wings aren’t that big of a problem, but you tapped my shoulder too hard and it startled me and oh my god, your nose is bleeding. Please sit down. I am so so sorry.” AU
  • Character A and Character B both have a similar horded item. As a result, Character A begins to majorly crush on Character B, and as a show of their affection, Character A gives Character B an item from their hoard (which would be a BIG deal).
  • Because of a skin issue, Character A’s scales are constantly dull and growing in patchy, which causes Character A to be really self conscious about showing any skin/scales. Character B is really into beauty routines and offers to give Character A a lesson on how to properly care for their scales.
  • “I mean, I’m already pretty short when I’m in my semi-human form, but when I’m in my full dragon form…well…promise you won’t laugh?” AU
  • Character A runs an shop that caters to many different dragon aesthetics – tiny spoons, plastic figurines, jewels, etc. – and Character B likes to stop in a lot. Though Character A notices that Character B’s interests don’t ever really follow a pattern that a usual dragon’s hoarding patterns would. Are they just coming into the shop to see Character A?
  • “I have to admit, I make a great snuggle buddy because of how warm my body naturally runs…just in case you ever get cold.” AU

I really like the hc that Crowley’s yellow eyes aren’t the only snake thing about him n he’s got scales instead of skin in some places n stuff like that. I have this scenario in my head that I haven’t been able to work into a fic where Crowley usually likes the finest human food but sometimes he just. Gotta eat a tasty looking snake food because it looks too good. And once the cottage gets an infestation and Aziraphale is like “oh gotta call the exterminator i guess” but Crowley. He doesn’t call the exterminator he gets into an old set of clothes and tears up the baseboard while Aziraphale is out for the day intending to get the house put back together before he gets home so Aziraphale doesn’t find out this embarrassing thing he’s going to do. But he just finds the rats and pounces on them and unhinges his jaw and goes to town. But Aziraphale comes back early and walks in on him swallowing a rat whole. And is like “my dear what the fuck.” But Crowley can’t answer because he has a fucking rat halfway down his throat

Cadenti Porrigo Demolotio

Ancient Greek Siren Harry

cadenti porrigo demolotio: I reach out my hand to the man who’s pulling.

Harry’s beauty was whispered through the valleys of Greece, attracting females and males to the island of Mykonos in hopes of hearing the green eyed siren’s song. Myths and legends told of heroes such as Odysseus and Heracles swayed by his beauty, even the goddess Aphrodite smitten by him and his son. He was no god of any sort; instead a nymph, if you will. An Oceanide.

Harry had skin kissed by the Greek sun. He had eyes that matched the wine colored sea he dwelled in and hair the color of whiskey. He knew he was beautiful too; people were willing to die to catch a glimpse of him, how could he not?

His voice was just as beautiful as he was. In the dead of night you could hear the distinct tune of his irresistibly sweet melody against the lapping waves on the sand. Though deemed as suicides, many had traveled to the island only to jump in the water in search of him only to be met with their fate under the sea. It wasn’t until Harry’s own fateful day where he meet his own siren of his dreams. Although she wasn’t a siren like he was.

She was human, and the most god damn beautiful human Harry had ever seen too. She was a sort of understated beauty, one that in a crowded marketplace in the famous city of Athens, Harry would be able to pick her out in a millisecond. She had lips the color of pomegranates and smudges of coal lined around her eyes to make them bigger than already possible. A soft, sweet gentle voice that Harry could hear when she was out that made his heart swell two sizes bigger.

How could he ever love another?

(Y/N) had traveled by boat to her birthplace of Mykonos. Every summer she would return to her childhood home and spend the season aiding her elderly parents around the house and the town. Living in a small cottage just on the coast of the island, her favorite thing to do was to garden and to sing, preferably at the same time. In the late evenings she would tend to the roses and watch the rhythmic percussion of the waves on the sand.

It wasn’t until one night the girl had wondered on the dark beach, wrapping her silk dress tighter around against her body. Her hair blew in tresses around her, momentarily restricting her vision until it was whipped away back behind her.

(Y/N) squinted, eyeing a blurry form in the distance with a look of confusion. Something had washed up; something big. A …shark? A seal? Coming closer, her jaw dropped open; it was a man. A man with a long, slender torso that turned from skin to scales into a long fish tail. He lay unmoving, twitching from time when a particularly strong gust of wind blew.

(Y/N) sunk down to her knees, observing him. She had only ever heard of nymphs in stories but undoubtedly knew from his appearance that he must of been one. His long hair lay strewn around his head in a disheveled mess and bits of sand covered his face all the way down to his torso. Clearly, he had been washed up. But how could such a strong creature, one so close to a human, allow itself to become so vulnerable?

(Y/N) reached out and dusted flecks of sand away from his forehead and eyes, noting that his skin, though a blue tint, was warm and he was in fact still breathing. She noted how long his eyelashes were and how they touched the apples of his cheeks, his lips a shade of a pink hibiscus. She felt herself becoming smitten with the man.

Harry jumped, startling the girl’s hand off of him with a gasp. From his view on the sandy beach, all he could see was the swirl of dark storm clouds above him and a frightened girl looking down on him. His girl.

“I’m sorry for startling you. What’s your name?” He whispered, lifting a hand up onto the girl’s jaw and cupping it sweetly. She followed his hand with hers and gave a slight eyebrow scrunch. He talked with an unusual accent, one that reveled he was not where she was from.

“(Y/N).”

“Lovely.” He coughed. “Can you help me back into the sea? I’m having trouble breathing.”

(Y/N) jumped up but the thought came to her mind; how was she suppose to drag a siren back into the ocean?

Harry held his arms out, encouraging her to take his hands. She did so with hesitation and lifted him off the ground only to find he weighed basically nothing. She felt like she was lifting a child up but he stood towering over her, wrapping his arms around her dainty neck to keep balance. (Y/N) stood shocked.

“Please.” He encouraged her, feeling her body rigid with hesitation.

She complied, using one arm to hoist his body up and carry him bridal style down to the water. She pushed her embarrassment to the side, as this was probably really damn strange looking. She wandered into the ocean waist deep, occasionally losing her footing against the waves that didn’t seem so gentle.

She loosened her hold on the siren, allowing him to slide into the sea. He did so quickly, diving under before coming back up with a refreshing laugh. Harry leaned over and took her hands, encouraging her to follow him deeper in the sea.

(Y/N) shook her head, pulling against his hold. “I can’t swim. I’ll drown.“

Harry had this funny look on his face, an odd smile matched with eyes that visibly shined even in the dead of night. He smoothly pulled her forward, her feet sliding off the sand and automatically kicking her weight above her. (Y/N) gasped, latching her grip onto the siren and wrapping her legs around his waist in a haste.

“I can’t swim!” She cried but a mistake it was, as now the siren floated the two of them deeper into the black ocean. The water was cold, surprising for a Greek summer and it had (Y/N)’s hair standing up on end. Her wet dress was weighing her down even harder onto Harry who had his strong arms wrapped around waist.

“Focus on me.” Harry spoke but it was difficult to hear him over the water spinning in waves around them. He had the same dreamy look on his face, seeming to appear unaware of (Y/N)’s horrified state.

Harry leaned in and kissed her lightly on the mouth, her body going in shock before melting into his as she reciprocated the kiss. Their noses bumped into each other as he worked his lips over hers, as he had never before kissied anybody. She clung to him as a child, momentarily forgetting the fact that she was freely floating in the sea.

The siren’s kiss made her feel warm inside but not warm enough to stop the fact that she was shivering. Harry tangled his hand in her hair, enjoying the sound of their lips against each other but her iron like grip on his shoulders made him pull away.

“I’m scared.” (Y/N) spoke. “Please take me back to shore.”

Harry frowned, not wanting their time to be up just yet.

“Tell me,” Harry sounded, his hand in her hair detaching and resting on the base of her neck. “Do you believe you can breathe underwater?”

“Would I be this scared in the middle of the ocean if I knew I could breathe underwater?”

Harry laughed, flicking his tail to keep them afloat. “What if I told you you could?”

(Y/N) shook her head. “I want to go home, I’m very tired. Please.”

“Okay, I’ll take you home. Hold onto me.”

And so, the siren trod the waters back to shore. (Y/N) let out a sigh of relief when her toes touched the sandy bottom of the floor. Without much of a goodbye or a look back, the girl ran back to dry land and up the path back to her tiny cottage.

Harry watched her, rising with anger. He took her on an adventure that no other had experienced and she repays him by running away? Here he was in love with her, so enamored but there she was trying to get away from him. He slapped the water surface angerly.

Harry took a breath and started to sing a song of sorrow and heavy heart. Singing always calmed Harry down, making him feel like the calm after the storm. Most of the time, Harry didn’t even know he had started singing because he would fall into a state of semi-consciousness, one that would make him feel one with nature, one with the gods on Mount Olympus and one with Earth.

Unknowingly, Harry’s melody had drifted into the wind and on to (Y/N)’s ears. She stopped her hurried walk and fell in love with the siren all over again. It only took her a millisecond to decide her fate and she was running back, holding her dress up from her legs and sprinting back down to the beach she had just been running from minutes before. It felt like an invisible string was pulling her, yanking her back in the water and to the siren’s arms. She didn’t care anymore though.

Harry saw her running, letting the last note of his song curl slowly from his lips. She stumbled through the water, doing her best attempt of trying to swim towards him before meeting being enclosed in his embrace and planting her lips onto his.

“Take me away.” She breathed heavily. “I never want to be without you, please, take me away.”

It didn’t take Harry any more convincing than that to turn around swim deeper into the sea. Though awkward, (Y/N) clung to the side of him, completely hypnotized by the voice of a siren she didn’t even know the name of.

When the island of Mykonos was only a dot in the horizon, Harry turned to (Y/N) and with a dazzling smile, breathed, “Are you ready?”

(Y/N) nodded, struggling to keep herself a float. “I’m yours, I’ll go wherever you go.”

With that, Harry took her hand and dived down. Immediately the water burned (Y/N)’s lungs, paradoxically making them feel like a growing flame. She coughed and sputtered violently but continued to follow the siren blindly deeper into the darkness. Her eyes refused to adjust, only seeing a blur of Harry’s tail and red and black blotches. Her head pounded, every cell in her body screaming for oxygen but she didn’t care to fight. (Y/N)’s love for the man dragging her deeper only heightened with each second and soon, she began to fall.

It hurt so bad that… it didn’t anymore. Her body didn’t struggle and became in tune with the wishes of her heart. She was peacefully numb. Nothing except her love mattered.

All movement stopped and before she knew it she was just floating in the empty ocean. Harry’s hand had disconnected from hers and suddenly, she had never felt more lonelier. (Y/N)’s last memory before she died was the siren’s lips on hers, kissing the last bits of her life away. He held the water in her chest with his kiss and watched her diminish.
