Last week, SB 590 passed the Indiana General Assembly and is currently awaiting Governor Daniels decision. Instead of reforming our country’s broken immigration system, this law divides communities and violates human and civil rights. Also passed was HB1402, a bill that makes undocumented students ineligible for in-state tuition, regardless of how long they’ve lived in Indiana. HB1402 becomes law on TUESDAY, MAY 10, unless vetoed by Governor Daniels.
SB590 now sits before Governor Mitch Daniels. Our students are leading the way, and need your help to send a clear message to the Presidential hopeful that Indiana will not stand for hateful and discriminatory laws. Tell him to VETO SB590 and HB1402 today!
In Indiana, five students were arrested after protesting against two anti-immigration laws: SB 590 and HB1402. The former mirrors Arizona’s SB 1070. Two of the ‘Indiana 5’ are Hermanos of LUL Erick Gama and Uriel Omar Gama. Please do you share by educating yourself on this issue and supporting the cause. This isn’t just an Indiana issue but one for us all. Share on your listservs if you could, it would be greatly appreciated.
