Hiveswap  Review (Spoiler)

We’ve been waiting an awfully long time for the Homestuck Adventure Game. First kickstarted in 2012, it’s gone through a troubled development cycle between 3 studios and…. yeah, you get the drift. Even in its final form, Hiveswap has gone through numerous unexplained delays (most infamously the last minute January Launch Month delay), and the development team for it had been very tight-hush until the end of August when a final release date of September 14th was announced.

Now that Hiveswap is out, we’re able to see for ourselves what the development team has been working on. Does it hold up to expectations? Does it make up for the hard delays and extremely concerning lack of communication?

Those are answers you can only decide for yourselves. What I will say, however, is this: Hiveswap is a charming and visually stunning introduction to the Homestuck world, that combines only the best of Homestuck’s humor with a new calmer, more curious and coherent setting.

It’s a shame, then, that the content of Act 1 isn’t a little bit longer. However, the gimmick of combining any item with each other and getting a new description will draw out the length for any lore completionists.

What do you think everyone's favorite Disney movies are?

Hoo boi!! Let’s see…

Daichi: The Fox and the Hound. Like legit, you know that mother fucker watches this when he’s home sick. He curls up on the couch with tissues (totally for the cold and definitely not for all the tears he be sheddin’ by the end of the movie). He considered changing Pochi’s name to Copper when he first got him but then decided against it because Noya had promised to find him a new home and he didn’t want to get too attached. (Ha. Ha.) Then by the time he realized he was stuck with him, it was too late to change it. He regularly holds Pochi’s paws and says, “I’m a hound dooooogggg.” Suga has it on video and watches it when he’s feeling down.

Suga: If you ask Suga what his favorite Disney movie is, chances are he will tell you “Cool Runnings” or “Max Keeble’s Big Move” just to be a little shit and get you to say, “No… I mean like… you know. The animated ones. Uhm… like when you say Disney movie they’re the ones that pop up in your head…” “Ohh… you mean like the Lizzie McGuire Movie.” “Suga no.” But actually, his favorite is Frozen. Honestly, that “Let it Gosong was LIT and he never misses an opportunity to sing it. “Suga, did you eat the cupcake I told you not to-” “LET IT GOOOO LET IT GOOOOO.” “God damn it.” Or when Daichi is getting out of the shower… Suga kicks the door of the bathroom open, LOVE IS AN OPEN DOOOORRR! “SUGA GET OUT.” He absolutely loves it. He dressed up as a perfect male Elsa for Halloween. Any time someone disses on it, “It wasn’t THAT good…” a fist fight breaks out. Let people enjoy things, you fucks.

Oikawa: Lilo and Stitch. “It’s not because the aliens! Shut up, Iwa-chan!” It’s totally because it’s a heartfelt story about family sticking together and definitely not because there are space ships and aliens and lasers. Nope. Iwaizumi made him a Scrump doll for their fourth anniversary and Oikawa takes it with him whenever he travels and totally, no way, definitely does NOT sleep with it. Nope.

Iwaizumi: Oliver and Company. Despite having the voice of an angel, Iwaizumi has very few indulgent songs that he sings when he’s at home. “Why Should I Worryis one of the few that he actually does belt when he’s in the mood. Just imagine him sliding in his socks around the kitchen as he’s making dinner, singing into a wooden spoon… “Why should I worry? Why should I care? I may not have a dime, but I got street savoire faire.” It’s Oikawa’s little secret that he will never share with anyone. On Iwaizumi’s last birthday, Oikawa dressed up as Georgette and sang “Perfect Isn’t Easy”. Like… he just pranced around the bedroom singing, “Though many covet my bone and bowl, they’re barkin’ up the wrong tree. You pretty pups all over the city, I have your hearts and you have my pity. Pretty is nice, but still, it’s just pretty. Perfect, my dear, is me.” Iwaizumi laughed so hard that he started crying and it was definitely the best birthday he’s ever had.

Matsukawa: A Goofy Movie. And not just because of the memes. Because of the strong familial bond between Goofy and Max and how hard Goofy tries but just can’t seem to get it right. Matsukawa can see a bit of his own father in him, as they had their own troubles back when he was in high school. They got through it and have an even stronger relationship and he can see that in this movie. (but it’s mostly because of the memes.)

Hanamaki: The Princess and the Frog. He’s got that Friends on the Other Side,” song memorized and sings it while he’s…. well… “working”. Also, RayXEvangeline is his OTP and he will go to the grave preaching their love. He used to go catch frogs in the pond near his house when he was a kid so honestly he just has a total soft spot for the little critters. Oh and he thinks Prince Naveen is a total hottie. 10/10 would smash.

Bokuto: Aladdin! Oh man he could watch this movie every day for the rest of his life and never get tired of it!!! He’s even dressed up as the Genie for Halloween more than once! He’s got that “Friend Like Me” song DOWN. He can do all the voices and everything! In fact, one of the main reasons Akaashi fell in love with him way back in high school was because on the few occasions that it was Akaashi that lost some confidence, Bokuto would sing the song to him and change “Aladdin” to “Akaashi” and it never failed to cheer him up to hear, “Mister Akaashi, Sir, what will your pleasure be? Let me take your order, jot it down. You ain’t never had a friend like me!”

Akaashi: Monster’s Inc.! Oh man Akaashi loves this movie so much. One of the only times you can see him visibly get giddy is when this movie is playing. It’s honestly the most adorable thing Bokuto has ever seen and every time Akaashi imitates Boo and says, “Kitty!” in a cutesy voice, Bokuto legit ascends to a higher plane of existence. He definitely plays the jazzy OST in the background when he’s sewing, humming along with the melody. He also may or may not have pushed a small child down in his desperation to get into the theater for the very first showing of Monster’s University. (Also, don’t tell anyone, but he made himself a Sully pajama onesie and definitely wears it all the time, but knows Pain in the Ass Kuroo-san would never let him hear the end of it if he found out so he keeps it a secret even from Bokuto.)

Kuroo: The Emperor’s New Groove. Kuroo has most definitely dressed up as Kuzco for Halloween around the same times Bokuto has dressed up as Genie. (In both the llama and human form.) His ringtone was also “Perfect World” for the longest time, until Kenma changed it one night after getting tired of hearing Kuroo shout out “Me!” after the “This Perfect World begins and ends with-” part before answering his phone.

Kenma: Toy Story. Hey, the less actual human beings in a movie, the better, ammiright? As a kid who didn’t have a lot of real friends growing up, the concept that your toys came to life and loved playing with you as much as you played with them was a really beautiful concept to him. He had always been a really rational kid, and knew that it was fiction, but there was some part of him that always thought, “But what if?” After the first time he watched Toy Story, he started treating his toys more gently, and daydreamed that even his videogame consoles and all the characters within them were alive and got excited every single time he took the controller. Not to mention Sid’s Scare Scene gave him ungodly satisfaction to watch after he acquired a few bullies in primary school.

Asahi: Up! Because… Because… *sobs* they were so in love… and he was such a grumpy old man but then… *SOBS* BUT HE WAS HER ADVENTURE AND OMG DOUG AND THEN THEY WERE WATCHING THE CARS TOGETHER AT THE END AND… AND… *wailing*

Nishinoya: MULAN! Kick ass women and plenty of fight scenes and most importantly… “To be a man, we must be swift as the coursing river. With all the force of the great typhoon. With all the strength of a raging fire. As mysterious as the dark side of the moon!”

Kiyoko: Brave. Strong independent woman that don’t need no man and instead wants to ride her horse and shoot her bow and fight bears and learn to connect and understand her mother? Uhhh…. sign her the FUCK up. Also, King Fergus reminds her so much of her dad that she can’t help but giggle every time he shows up on screen. And that hair animation? ENCHANTING. She can’t tear her eyes from it.

Yachi: Tangled. Oh c’mon. Duh! Yachi is so TOTALLY Rapunzel. It’s not even funny. She relates HARD with the heroine and oh my GOD it’s so cute to see her flouncing around her apartment in her PJ’s, singing, “And at last I see the light! And it’s like the fog has lifted!”

Hinata: The Little Mermaid. REDHEAD. A REDHEAD! Oh man Hinata used to watch this movie every day. He was so excited to see a redheaded Disney princess. His mom bought him a fork just so he could brush his hair with it. He used to have a little fish tank in his room and he named all of the fish after the characters. “I’m going to marry Ariel when I get older!” Little did he know, he ended up being Ariel and falling for the tall, black haired prince with the bright blue eyes instead. Oopsie Daisies.

Kageyama: Finding Nemo. There’s something about small… orange… things that draws Kageyama to them. He really has no clue what the heck it is. He has been caught a few times muttering, “Just keep swimmin’. Just keep swimmin’.”  Under his breath when he’s stressed out, either on the volleyball court or in school. Pretty much everyone has noticed but they’re a little scared that he will stop doing it if they point it out so they pretend not to hear him. It’s just too cute of a habit to lose.

Miya: Hercules. Okay Miya is low key in love with Danny Devito and so anytime he’s in ANYTHING, it’s his favorite thing. Not to mention Meg reminds him high key of a certain tsundere who won’t say he is in love. Although, if he’s being completely honest, Miya relates a bit more to Hades than he does Hercules (I think you mean HUNKules).

Shirabu: Moana. So, Shirabu doesn’t really watch a lot of movies. Okay, he NEVER watches movies. He doesn’t have time. He’s got better things to do. The few movies he HAS seen were pretty much whatever Miyazaki Hayao was putting out and even then, he wasn’t really attached to any of them. Then Moana came out and he was quite literally DRAGGED off to see it by Miya. He swore he wasn’t going to have a good time and sit with arms crossed, complaining the whole movie, but then some ANNOYING asshole laced their fingers together and refused to let go and UGH. So obnoxious. But then that same annoying asshole seemed to have a lot of fun and hummed to the tune of Shiny on the way out of the theater and down the street. And well… it did have good music. And it looked pretty. And then when Miya took him to dinner afterwards, Shirabu had managed to choke out a reluctant, “Thank you” and had to suffer through an exuberant, “What can I say except you’re welcome? But you know… Shirabu wouldn’t be against the idea of seeing more movies in the future….

Welp. That’s what I came up with. Seem fitting? Thanks for the ask, I had a lot of fun thinking about this!

  • and Sophia is just shaking her head
  • “Oppa, are you sure you can take care of a kid? You can barely take care of yourself.”
  • but she’s super excited to be an aunt
  • and would go shopping with Hansol for stuff or with her sister-in-law
  • because when Vernon goes by himself
  • he’d buy the wrong baby car seat for the car
  • or dog clothes, not baby clothes
  • he’d be a super excited fluffball of an expecting parent, and a clueless mess
  • until someone points him to a first time parenting handbook
  • and he just sits there staring at it like it’s the most incredible thing in the world
  • like ‘They actually write books about how to raise a human?!?!’
  • and he’d read through the first few pages
  • before getting distracted by the pictures
  • of all the cute babies and of the loving parents
  • and would want to go out to buy a bunch of clothes and tiny shoes and tiny socks and tiny shirts
  • just squealing at every cute tiny thing
  • “Are babies really born that tiny?!?!?!”
  • and buying baby toys
  • each of which he will test himself
  • like a rattle, he’ll shake it around before deciding to buy it
  • and then watching a bunch of youtube videos on how to change diapers
  • and vids of mommy vloggers recommending stuff
  • and he’d probably get distracted by other stuff again like an animation for the abc song or something
  • and would think it’s super cute
  • he’s literally a child what can you do
  • would spend weeks freaking out once the delivery date approaches
  • basically asking all the hyungs for advice
  • and asking Chan for advice even though Chan’s younger
  • “Why are you asking me?” Chan would laugh
  • Lots of constant thinking and random questions
  • “Hyung, babies have a hole in their skull you can’t touch right?”
  • “I’m going to call babies from now on small persons, because that’s what they are, they don’t need to be called babies.”
  • “Small people need formula right?”

  • and on the delivery date
  • you can imagine twelve boys waiting out in the hospital hallway
  • literally all excited about being uncles basically
  • Seungkwan running up and down the hallway ready to see Hansol’s kid already
  • Joshua just carrying a gift wrapped by Mingyu that they all chipped in to buy
  • until Hansol walks out with a huge goofy grin on his face
  • a high-pitched sound coming out the back of his throat
  • and all of Svt gathers around like
  • “I’M A DAD, I FEEL OLD!!!”
  • “IT’S A BOY.”
  • so much screaming happens in the next ten minutes, pretty sure the hospital staff were ready to kick Svt out
  • “Baby Decaprio Jr.!!!!”
  • and although Vernon is a kind of clueless parent
  • he figures things out his own way
  • can’t change a diaper properly when he’s watching the kid at the studio so he uses the next best thing
  • always insisting his wife take lots of breaks so he can bond with his son
  • “Yo do you like me or mom better? No we don’t have to tell her ke ke ke.”
  • “Hansol the baby can’t talk yet.”
  • “I know!”
  • the little guy always has his dad and his dad’s twelve friends looking after him
  • “Repeat after me //ahem// uncle Seungkwan is the best, jjang!!!”
  • “He looks just like Hansol.”
  • “You want to watch spongebob with me and your dad, hmm?”
  • Vernon carrying around his son everywhere in one of those baby harnesses he straps to his chest
  • “That’s Woozi-hyung making music, that’s Hoshi-hyung making dance moves, that’s Dokyeom-hyung doing… something silly”
  • even if he isn’t going out, his son is sitting in the harness on Hansol’s chest
  • “Vernon you can’t dance with your kid on your chest.”
  • “Oh yea hang on.”
  • and though he’s a goofball
  • no one could ever deny how much Hansol loves his son
  • always using baby talk
  • and singing random songs in both Korean and English to his kid
  • at the end of a long day, they’d fall asleep together on the couch
  • and when the baby wakes up in the middle of the night, Vernon’s panicking
  • “pop” is his first word
  • and Hansol is thinking YES POP LIKE DAD
  • but no it’s pop like a bubble pops
  • because every time Hansol imitates a bubble and gets popped by one of the Svt members
  • his son laughs and smiles like crazy
  • “Pop, pop, pop!”
  • Vernon dying every time at the cuteness
  • “You can call me pop, just don’t tell mom.”
  • and when his kid gets a bit older and starts learning stuff
  • Vernon is really surprised at how quickly his son picks up a mix of both Korean and English
  • his son’s sentences are never fully in one language it’s always a mix of both

  • Hansol looking up abc raps for his son to listen to in the car
  • and soon the kid starts picking up on Vernon’s mannerisms
  • “He’s literally a tiny you.” Seungkwan laughs pointing at how Vernon and his son stood
  • Hansol likes to go everywhere with his kid, since his son hangs out at the studio with him often since his mom works
  • he’s only six now

  • “Uncle Joshua, how do you say 'adventure’ in Korean?”
  • “Uncle Seungcheol, is my dad annoying you?”
  • literally the cutest six year old ever
  • running around the studio looking at everything and asking all the members questions
  • “Daddy! Uncle Woozi played me a bit of mansae, I liked it a lot!”
  • the kid is a goofball too like his dad
  • and Vernon lets him listen to Svt songs all the time
  • “I wrote these lyrics, do you like them?” he’d ask his son
  • “Of course, because you wrote them!”
  • they’d go to the park to play baseball or basketball
  • Hansol carrying his kid on his shoulders to throw the ball into the hoop
  • and then running around like crazy screaming if he makes it
  • would try to teach his son how to bike and skateboard and roller skate at eight
  • but not before buying all the security gear and elbow/knee guards and keeping a hand tightly around his kids hand
  • Hansol would play music in the park and they’d have a dance party out in the middle of the park
  • not caring what other people thought
  • just enjoying the music
  • “You can dance really well!” Vernon tells his son
  • “Yea, I think I’m better than you dad!”
  • “No way, let’s have a dance battle!”
  • Vernon always worried about his kid
  • when his son needed to start school
  • “Dad, it’s only like for five hours.”
  • Hansol writing the names of the kids his son plays with and their parents on his hand to remember like he tries remembering fan names
  • “My dad’s a rapper! He sings too! I’m really proud of him!” his son would tell all his friends
  • and man Hansol would be so happy, he’d almost explode
  • and they go everywhere to eat all the food and try all the good stuff
  • “Cheeseburgers, pizza, chicken, meat, chocolate, the necessary foods of a balanced diet.”
  • “What about fruits and vegetables like mom told me?”
  • “I don’t know what mom’s been saying but it isn’t that.”
  • “I like apples though.”
  • watch Hansol go out of his way just to buy like twelve apples just because his kid said he liked them
  • “how do you like them apples”
  • “dad. stop. PLEASE.”

Heeeey look who’s finally done this! Thank you to the lovely @highlady-casandra @runesandfaes @dr-woodsprite @illyrian-high-lord and @wingsofanillyrian for tagging me!

“I really hope this isn’t too long” she says and continues to talk for ages. Sorry, I really can’t shut up lol. And sorry it’s louder at times but I got excited and quieter when I’d get distracted by a notification and I also kept moving my head so I wasn’t always speaking into the microphone but whateves… The questions and tags are under the cut!

I'm trying to write/illustrate a children's book for a project at my school. I have practically zero experience. I was blown away by your illustrations, and was wondering, do you have any tips to having quality illustrations? Do you use watercolor? I love your artwork!

This is such a late response, sorry! Took an unexpectedly large break from tumblr as I was busy with other things so I assume you’ve finished your project now but I hope your children’s book went well, and thanks so much for the kind words! Here are some general things I find really helpful (I was going to reply in private but thought others might like to read this too):

1. Thumbnail sketches. LOTS OF THUMBNAIL SKETCHES. I draw so many of them that if I go to a coffee shop in the morning I can easily come back with one or two full pages of absolutely tiny but relatively detailed doodles so I can see which compositions I like, how a character moves, what’s working, what isn’t etc. This is the part of the process I enjoy the most. The more you draw, the more the ideas keep flowing.
2. Look at shapes, light and shadow. Won’t go into detail about this as there are loads of animation books and blogs out there that cover this in better detail than I could, however I WILL say that greyscale copic markers are a great way to quickly work out value/light and shadow on loose sketches and small compositions.
3. Have a nice workspace. Surround yourself with things that inspire you. Listen to good music. Drink hot chocolate. Whatever works - the nicer your workspace is, the less drawing seems like work and the more it seems like fun, and I find the more fun I’m having, the more I like the end result!
4. I always have some ‘rainy day’ sketches lying around in sight - small doodles or ideas I sketched or wrote down but had no time to draw properly. If I’m struggling with art block or feeling particularly uninspired, I look at these sketches to jog my memory, and pick one at random to develop further. Sticky notes work well for this. My desk is absolutely covered with them…

That’s all I can think of for the moment, hopefully this ridiculously late response was at least a little bit helpful haha! Have a great day! <3 PS my work is usually mostly digital, although I used to paint a lot with watercolours.

(Disclaimer: this report will not be a serious and professional one because I just can’t contain the fangirling; also I may and probably will be biased towards Aikyan and Shuka I’m sorry-
Also I’m sorry but I can’t really understand Japanese so I don’t know a lot of the things they said and what the Intermission PV was about, but maybe I will be able to update it later
Last, there will probably be a lot of mistakes since I’m writing this on my phone (since I’m going back home to Italy only after Comiket next week)

Sorry this took me a lot of time! So, on Saturday I’ve been to the first day of Aqours 2nd Live Tour in Nagoya and I wanted to write a report of it for curious people and also for me to remember it better :)

Ok. Sorry, I have to rant, and I am normally the last person to take to my keyboard and spew my lamentations all over the place like 99% of the bleeding hearts on this site but I’m just extremely bothered by this tonight.

*!!!SPOILERS!!! for Life Is Strange and LIS: Before The Storm, duh*

If you actually take the time to read this “review” of sorts, this is probably gonna be long. Haul up, take a seat.
*Spoilers, duh*

This game, I had extremely high expectations due to how bloody much I loved the first game. Not to hard to know that with how much I screech about it.
But this game, even though the first episode is the only one released of the three (four, if you got the deluxe) ((kill me emo heart I’m gonna die playing one last time as a young max rip me)), is honestly beautiful prequel.
Originally, I was quite disappointed it wasn’t being created by DONTNOD, but instead created this time by Deck Nine Games, but after looking into how much they admired the source material and wanted to do it justice, I gave it hope. And they pulled through, 10 times more than what I’d expected.

Now I’m gonna get into my pros and cons with this. (Obviously more pros than cons but ya know)
So obviously, the voice actors are different. Nothing could be helped there unfortunately. Yes, majority of the voice actors are so far off it hurts, but so far the once you hear most is Chloes new VA. And to be honest, she isn’t half bad. Sometimes she sounds like she trying to hard, but other times it sounds much like OG Chloe.
I wanna quickly note Dana’s and Justin’s VA’s.
I know there’s a strike going on but whAT. They couldn’t have tried to find anyone who’s pitch is even remotely close to Dana’s and Justin’s OG VA??? Like cmon. I know they’re only side NPC’s in this game and we will *probably* hardly see them since this prequel focuses on Rachel and Chloe, but come onNNNN man.

Now what I love about this game (which is a lot more than what I dislike)
The animation on these characters is something I love so much. It’s such a subtle different in the facial expressions, the eye movements and slight smirks and smiles that are made by characters that just wasn’t there in the OG Life is Strange, and honestly it just makes the immersion that much better. It gives the characters so much more character and emotion. It makes them feel much more human and more alive.
Also wanna quickly point out the cool as heck feature of getting to choose the outfit Chloe wears??? Like heck yes thank you I am
DOWN for this.

The diary function for Chloe (the same kind as max had in the OG) gives you so much more insight into how Chloe is feeling and it adds so much more to her already interesting character. It shows how she is dealing with the death of her father, her mum and Madsen, and her feelings of abandonment by her best friend Max when she left with her family to Seattle.
In the OG game, you see people kinda viewing Chloe as being a bit selfish and bitchy for thinking everything’s about her, and that her finding anger in the fact that Max didn’t speak to her after she left Arcadia bay as an irrational feeling. It makes you view Max as someone who is basically incapable or hurting anyone, which while she wouldn’t purposely want to, she is humans and humans can and will hurt people whether they mean to or not. Chloe’s feelings of anger and abandonment toward Max are so extremely valid, but this is something you don’t really see or feel while you’re playing the OG as Max. You only see Chloe’s actions as something fuelled by unnecessary anger and selfishness, when that’s not the case.
She’s feeling hurt from her father dying and her mother moving on with some guy who does NOT respect her at all, and dealing with her best friend since childhood just leaving her behind. Anyone would be hurt and distressed by that.
All the diary entries and her own opinions of the different characters, add to the character development of Chloe. Along with that, her inner monologue also lets you into her thoughts a lot, yet again adding more to her personality and just allowing you to really feel what it was like for her in the events leading up to the first Life is Strange.

Okay next, Rachel. My sweet bean. My lil princess rebel bbbbbbbbby.
Quick thing why do her and Chloe’s VA have to sound LITERALLY. EXACTLY. THE SAME. Way to confuse a girl. But hat fact aside, Rachel is beautiful. Such a beautiful character. I have seen some people worrying about Rachel’s character ACTUALLY being realised and put into reality, since her whole appeal in the OG was the fact that she was so appealing BECAUSE of the mystery behind this missing girl that everyone absolutely adored. And they’re not wrong, that was the whole appeal. There’s this girl that we have never met that everyone adored so much and was loved by everyone, of course you’d be worried that it would be ruined once she’s actually put into game as a real life person and character.
Thing is, I don’t think it ruins it. It only cements the fact that Rachel IS that character that everyone spoke of her as. The perfect and popular girl that was friends with everyone. I don’t know what else I can really say about Rachel except hat I LOVE HER and the ending scene with her breaks my DAMN heart.

Now I wanna talk about the junkyard scene with Chloe and Rachel. I need to because DAMN BOI MY EMOTIONS. Quick run down: Rachel is acting quite weird with Chloe, Chloe calls her out on it and Rachel isn’t having it. Chloe tries to get her to not leave the junkyards and confesses her feelings for her, and even though Rachel feels the same thing due to whatever has happened she can’t be there right now so she leaves.
Chloe is hurt as heck by that. She does her Chloe thing and smashes everything in her sights and that scene alone with Chloe crying, her anger, and the DAMN background music is already emotional enough. But then they show Chloe finding her dads wrecked car in the junkyard, the car he died in. And oH BOY the feelings.
They way they showed Chloe’s emotions when seeing that car, but also mixed with her anger and her then smashing the car due to that mix of emotions, honestly worked so well in creating an immersing and emotion filled experience for the player.
The final scene, they show Chloe reuniting with Rachel and Rachel apologising for the way she acted and you find out what is upsetting her (spoiler: her dads having an affair and she’s angry af)
She then burns a photo of her and her dad in a trash can, kicks over the van and it lights a tree on fire.
Then, obviously being filled with rage and sadness, she screams out in pain toward the tree and oh boy oh man oh mAN, I don’t think I’ve ever had a SCREAM feel so painful. I felt the pain in each scream. I don’t know how they did it and made me actually cry with a simple scream, but damn. Bloody 10/10.

A few smaller things I want to mention: they NAILED it with the soundtrack. That was one thing I was worried about but I think they smashed it.
I’m curious to see how much we see of Nathan in this game as well since seeing him briefly in this first episode. Is he gonna be as prevalent as the first? Or just a side character?
Also, the dialogue in this game is actually so good. Obviously a lot is cheesy monologue because it’s coming from a bunch of 16 year old teenagers, but for what it is it’s really accurate and portrays a lot of emotions so raw and genuinely.

I went into this game obviously being so hyped because I love this game, but also cautious BECAUSE it is being created by a different studio and I didn’t want this game to be ruined for me, but I can honestly say with 100% confidence that this game did NOT disappoint and they did it so much justice.
It may only be the first episode of three but damn, I really cannot fault it all too much, if any at all.

There’s probably so much that I missed talking about but I guess these are the main things that stood out.

If you actually read all this you deserve some kind of a medal so thank you

Dear Endling, I've been a huge fan since I saw your comics on Snafu. I'm struggling, and have been for awhile. Art is my passion, but I don't have the right education to pursue a career in it. I've been unable to find my style, and have been stuck for a year. Do you have any advice on where I can read/study to improve my skills to eventually, find my own style?

This is a question I’ve been asked a lot, but to be honest it never really gets that much easier to answer. Every artist being an individual, it’s tough to find catch-alls that work for everyone, you know what I  mean? And hell, truth be told, I’m still trying to figure this stuff out for myself. :]

Let me get this first bit out of the way, the bit nobody wants to hear: “Practice, practice, practice.” It’s the biggest, stinkiest old chestnut in the book, the one you’ve probably heard a million times before, but unfortunately, it is the most rock solid, time-tested advice any artist can swear by. Even when you feel down and out, even when things don’t look like they should. You keep on drawing, because art has a funny way of growing with you, even if you’re not aware of it.

But try different things. Some personal suggestions:

- Draw from life. Do figure studies. Your art will only go as far as the strong foundation you’ve built on. It can be arduous, but it is worth it. There is no way around this, much as many folks find this the token ‘boring’ advice.

- Look up light and color theory online. Nowadays there is a ridiculous amount of information on this subject on the internet. You could probably cobble together a near full education on the subject just from all the different people who have guides, examples, even youtube videos on the matter. It’s really amazing. There are tons of people out there trying to help young artists get on their feet, and they aren’t charging a thin dime. Take advantage of it. :]

- Warm up before you draw! Draw scribbles, cubes, shapes with some zing to them. Drawing can be a workout! So like any workout, warm up! Don’t dive right in and injure yourself. :] It’s a good way to stave off feeling discouraged because things  didn’t turn out looking brilliant right off the bat.

- Try emulating a variety of other artists’ work. (With their consent if you’re posting it somewhere of course.) Sometimes when drawing in someone else’s style your own little mannerisms and stylistic influences tend to pop up in the result. This is more a fun exercise though, certainly not something to fall back on as a means to improve. You don’t want to end up relying on the same artistic 'shortcuts’ your chosen artists employ in their own work without a firm understanding of the basics yourself.

- Draw quickly, loosely, even carelessly. Less thought, more winging it. Fly by the seat of them pants. Have fun letting go! At least, for a practice run at first. While 'style’ is at best a nebulous concept, I’ve always found that if you draw speedily, you tend to put emphasis in certain areas, sort of feel your hand moving a particular way? If you don’t let too much thought get in the way, you can sometimes see the raw tendencies you have underneath the art.

- Animation! Regarding stuff to read to improve your skills, there is no shortage of books available in places like Barnes & Noble. Entire sections on art. I recommend, personally, books on animation techniques. I was originally an animation major in college, and I think any artist can benefit greatly by studying it thoroughly.

- Draw for yourself, not for the internet. This is a more fairly recent issue I’ve been seeing with some people, but there are folks out there who get a little too attached to the reception (or lack thereof) they receive for posting their work online, or worse still, seem to only draw with the specific intent of putting things online. While it’s all well and good to share your work with other people, please please please do not forget that you are drawing for yourself. You don’t have to post everything you make. Allow yourself plenty of time to make plenty of terrible drawings. Fall flat on your face. You can share the stuff you’d like, but you don’t have to feel compelled to share everything you do.

- Art blocks and burn out will happen. Don’t sweat 'being stuck’ so much. Don’t rush getting OUT of it either. Art blocks are kind of a way of telling you you’re running on empty in one way or another. I’ve gotten asked quite often what I do to get over an art block. The answer is really simple: wait. Haha. But you find things to do that get you feeling charged up again. I like listening to music and playing games. Games are what got me into art in the first place, so it’s kind of a back-and-forth process for me. But what I’m trying to say here is, art and your life are pretty much connected in every way. If your art just doesn’t want to come out easily on the page, maybe you should find something else to do that you enjoy. Refill, recharge, re-energize, but NOT just to get over an art block. Your daily life might be more attached to your work than you realize. Which brings me to my next point..

- Don’t look so hard for 'your style’. You need to grow as much as your artwork. As I said before, style is kind of a strange subject. To most people style is simply 'how your art looks’, what sets it apart from other folks. But if you ask me, style is whatever ignites your passion to create in the first place. Style can be influenced by other art, sure, but it can also be influenced by music, games, sports, books, your background, the things you enjoy, just the person you are from the ground up. Style comes from pouring yourself into your work. And you know what? You need to grow just as much as your artwork. If you put a piece of yourself into your art, it will undoubtedly be unique, because you’re a unique person yourself. Find something you want to say and let it come out through your art.

And yes, that’s about the floweriest answer I’ve ever given on the subject of style. I guess when it comes to the subject of art I can be a sappy sap. But DAMMIT I BELIEVE IN YOU. And anyone else reading this that might have been feeling the same way! And I really appreciate the question! Hell, I’m honored, and hope in any way at all I can help, because art is a beautiful thing to have in your life, and I wish you the absolute best of luck with it.

2D Animators, Anywhere?

So, short animated cutscenes. It’d be nice to have some for my projects, yeah?! But let’s be real here, we all know I’m thinking about Women of Xal and animating me some Velvet and Xuna…

But whoolawd does Google love making it difficult to find quality ones that are actually available for commission. So now I’m asking if Tumblr knows of any, or can reblog this to animators that may fit what we’re looking for!

What We’re Looking For

  • Polished, Skilled 2D Anime-Styled Animation for ‘Women of Xal’ (Link)
  • Can create simple animations up to 1:30
  • Works well with contracts and deadlines
  • NOT looking for western-centric styles of near-any sort.

Compensation [Choose 1]

  • Whatever your rates are (Haggle-Free Zone: Your Rates or Bust!)
  • 10-3000 Minutes of an Original Soundtrack For Your Project, Commercial Use (OST Length Depending on Amount of Animation. 3000 Minutes = Around 100 Tracks, Demo Reel Here)
  • Hybrid: Lowered Rates For Original Music. So a bit of both the Previous.

Compensation II [Regardless of Previous Choice]

  • Full Women of Xal Game (PC/Mac/Steam)
  • Women of Xal Official Soundtrack
  • Revenue Share: 0-60% of Steam Profits (Percentage dependant on type of compensation or animation rate.)

Potential FAQ

How do I know I’ll get paid for the work?

  • If we’re under a contract, you’re paid beforehand!

I’m more of a ‘I’ll get to it when I get to it’ kind of person. Is that fine?

  • No, sorry. If this Kickstarter fails or gets overwhelmingly delayed, my future projects and reputation are sunk. Punctuality is a must.

Hey! I’ve been watching this project and wondering how you have an animation budget???

  • Commissions! Endless, endless music commissions. And more to come. For those worried I’d take it out of the Kickstarter funds, don’t worry! The staff -literally the entire staff- have their money already, so I very literally couldn’t spend it even if I decided to go silly and steal it.

Will this hurt Women of Xal’s schedule?

  • End of 2018 is still our goal. All cutscenes with 2D are intended to be short and relatively light on the animation. Like those budget saving anime we know and love so much. Talking and facial expressions will be the main priority. Ideally, it’ll take much less time than say, several fight scenes. If it’s still a problem…we’ll cut 2D animation!

Dealing with Artistic Burnout

Artistic burnout is a problem many artists experience at some point in their career. If you’ve never experienced it, then consider yourself lucky. But if you have, I wanted to talk a little bit about it as someone who has been there.

Let’s be honest, art is a pretty awesome career. We’re extremely fortunate to get paid to do something we really love. It’s a wonderful thing to be able to turn a hobby into a career, and something I am truly grateful for. But like any career, sometimes it’s stressful and difficult, and it requires a lot of effort. It can be frustrating when that thing you used to do for fun in your free time becomes the thing that is causing you stress. It’s the one unfortunate side effect of turning your hobby into your job. Sometimes you’re just not going to enjoy it.

Look i know yall dont wanna give pixars CoCo a chance because u think they ripped of Book of Life or whatever other reason but im actually interested in seeing it because 1…love triangles in any shape or form always un interest me, and 2nd, Cocos premise is:

“Coco follows a 12-year-old boy named Miguel who sets off a chain of events relating to a century-old mystery, leading to an extraordinary family reunion.

Despite his family’s generation-old ban on music, Miguel (Anthony Gonzalez) dreams of becoming an accomplished musician like his idol Ernesto de la Cruz (Benjamin Bratt). Desperate to prove his talent, Miguel finds himself in the Land of the Dead. Along the way, he meets charming trickster Hector (Gael García Bernal) and together they set off on an extraordinary journey to unlock the real story behind Miguel’s family history.”

Like??? u dont wanna see it fine but hey look there can be more than one movie that takes on The Day of The Dead setting and besides its obviously not the same story. As a latinx i feel drawn to it, we need more latinx kid characters on the big screen!! We need more of them being seen going on magical adventures too!!! Also The person in charge is known to be good about writing kid stuff, hes literally the director for toy story like idk why im typing any of this other than im annoyed by whites on tumblr driving other people away from seeing this movie and giving it a chance for some more representation to get out there, especually after the way some of yall shat on that one cartoon pilot about latino boys CREATED by a LATINO :/ (i see u cartoon network u posted dates and times for the premier of inf//inity tr//ain and straight up uploaded the whole pilot of it on ur twitter but for Victor ans Valentino u didnt even show a picture of the main chars)

Anyway, iv rambled a while. Im not saying u gotta like CoCo or go see it,or if you are latinx you havto like it, same with Victor or Valentino, just…read what iv talked about and try to see where im coming from thanks

Being that you're an industry expert, I was hoping if there were any tips or advice you can give to an aspiring Animation Series creator. Any lessons you've learned from working in the industry from so many years. What advice would you give yourself if you were starting out trying to get you're animation picked up by a major network?

Yeah I have a big piece of advice! Stop “aspiring”!!!!! Your aspirations end now!!!!

YES YOU! DON’T WAIT! START NOW! (passionate rambling incoming…)

The freaking coolest thing about living in the year 20XX is that you don’t have to have anyone’s permission to be an Animated Series creator. Grab a trial copy of Flash, or make flipbooks, or your own GIFs, or make some stop motion with your phone. Just start making whatever you want! Don’t save your good ideas for some big-wig executives or networks. Just do them right now! Don’t be precious with your ideas, just put them out there.

Content that’s on TV or in movies is not “more official” than stuff you make in your home on your spare time to share with friends on the internet. It’s all the same!!!!! As long as you enjoy it, who cares!! And if other people happen to like it also, then BONUS!!

The experience you get from trying to make something good on your own is so much more important than any future dream of being a big shot. Upload what you do to the internet and get feedback, show it to as many people as you can and listen to critiques. Learn to do stuff all by yourself, and only for your own pleasure.

From what I’ve seen, the people who end up creating a good animated series are the same people who have been creating their own stories, cartoons, comics and music on their own just for fun long before they ever got the shot at the big-time. Read about how your favorite cartoons are made, and try to do the process on your own. You’ll learn what your strengths are and what you’re interested in exploring.

(If you don’t have the facilities to create animation on your own, make something smaller scale- like a script, a comic, or a storyboard!)

OK THEN HERE’S STEP TWO: once you’ve learned to love your work on your own and figured out what you like to draw and what you’re passionate about, you may get a chance to pitch an idea. And thanks to the work you’ve done, you’ll be READY! Instead of some half-finished ideas, you’ll be able to point to all the amazing stuff you’ve created on your own and say “look, I already know what I like, AND I already know how to do it!” —that’s WAY more impressive than an undeveloped idea with nothing to show for it. PLUS, the bonus of doing good work on your own is that you’ll attract attention and opportunity! I know so many people working in this industry who were discovered from their own silly personal work that was just randomly found online.

Let’s get in the mood.

Initial D is a manga started in 1995 that ran until 2013, as well as an anime that began in 1998 and ended in 2014. It stars Takumi Fujiwara as a driving prodigy specializing in downhill runs and details his journey into the world of touge street racing. The series is a giant love letter to the AE86 as well as many late 80s/early and mid-90s Japanese sports cars.

And like any successful manga/anime series, there have been plenty of games. It’s a formula that lends itself well in the right developers’ hands, and the quality of these games range from abysmal to terrific.

10 good things about the Gonzo adaptation

Well, I’ve gone and watched it (though it was quite a while ago, so I apologize in advance for any mistakes due to poor memory). Being a hardcore manga-plotline fan, I didn’t like it much, but I can appreciate certain things. This world could use some positivity, so I decided to list the things I like. Expect a part 2 with ten bad things about the OVA, just because.

1. An actual opening

Not my kind of music though, but sure enough have I’ve been missing an opening watching the OVA (no matter how awesome the appearance of the logo is). The animation is deeply appreciated!

Me: *humming along*

2. White haired Alucard

For those of you who have read the manga, you might have noticed that Alucard did in fact have white hair when Integra first met him. It makes a lot of sense that his hair would be white, considering how long he had been locked away. Also, it adds to aestetic.

The Major: Well, Hans got white hair as well

Alucard: Not as fabulous as mine though *flips hair*

3. More Seras screen time

Compaired to the manga, Seras is given more screen time in the anime, which would be very nice to someone who likes her character. Only drawback is that she isn’t really given interesting things to do.

Seras: Let’s do some things!

Seras: Like explore for all the episodes and learn less about being a vampire than in the manga!

Seras: Because to be honest, I learned little there too!

Alucard: Are you calling me a poor teacher?

4. Seras wardrobe

Speaking of Seras; in the anime, she has a great variety of outfits. It is a late 90′s/early 2000′s crappy wardrobe though, but that is what makes it perfect. It both lines with the time period, but also gives the audience who didn’t watch it at its original release something to laugh about later on. It’s adorable.

Seras: I can’t imagine what it would be like walking around in the same outfit for the entire series!

Integra, Walter, Ferguson: No, I can’t imagine!

5. Seras home

A bit Seras obsessed here, but I’m not sorry. In the anime, Seras previous home before joining Hellsing is shown and that can possible make you feel things. It makes the understanding of Seras’ motives and resolve easier and therefore you can relate to her more, something Hirano missed out on in the earlier parts of the manga before he decided to try to flesh it out later.

Seras: There’s one problem though. Since I’m reported dead, or missing or whatever, my apartment will be sold off at some point and I won’t get a penny for it.

Seras: I better save all my belongings now! Sad about my home though.

Alucard: You’ll get over it. Coffins are so much better than apartments!

Seras: …Thanks?

6. Alucard dropping out of the ceiling

Why did this not happen at some point in the manga?

Alucard: Hi Iscariot! I’m going to kill you now for insulting my master!

Enrico: Is that the famous Alucard in the ceiling?!

Integra: Not this shit again.

7. Great Seiyuus

As the seiyuus (voice actors, referring to the Japanese cast) are the same in the manga as the OVA and equally amazing in both adaptations, I can do nothing except praise them. I haven’t watched the dub since I’m no fan of dubs, but I know it’s the same English cast in the anime as in the OVA and those who enjoys the dub seems to agree that it was an amazing English cast, so praise goes for the English cast too!

TFSabridged Alucard: Hey! What about us??

TFSabridged The Major: Yeah! Our voice actors are great too!

TFSabridged Alucard: Shut up fatty, no one asked you!

8. Pip doesn’t die

This is a longshot I know, but hear me out. Since Pip wasn’t in the anime at all, there was no need to have our hearts ripped out and stepped on by the producers, which to me qualifies as something very good. Legend says (or me, I just made it up) that Pip lives somewhere in the Gonzo adaptation universe, happily unaware of vampires and other supernatural bullshit.

Pip: Back home from another mission. Feels great.

Pip: But sometimes I feel like the purpose with my life is in fact not killing for money, but to be a left arm of a beautiful girl.

Pip: …

Pip: Nah.

9. Walter isn’t a traitor

This seems to be one of the things that upsets most fans of the manga/OVA (me included); Walter’s betrayal. It made me so angry in the manga when it was revealed, but then I watched the anime and it felt better to know there is an alternate universe where Walter always stays loyal to Integra and her cause.

Integra: I know this might seem odd, but thank you for not betraying me, Walter.

Walter: Of course not, Sir! And I would never! Not even if Alucard may or may not have driven me to it because of or mutual childishness!

Integra: I honestly don’t know what to reply to that.

10. Alucard’s “Vladcard” form

This was the best in the entire series. He both actually looks more accurate to the historical person Vlad III than in the manga, but it’s also that kind of image that makes me laugh hysterically, without being able to identify it as an uncomfortable or an amused laugh. Probably the former.
'The Flash'-'Supergirl' Musical Crossover: Darren Criss Details Dastardly New Villain

“Yay musicals! This is fun!”

Darren Criss is trying to hype the 20+ dancers assembled for one of The Flash–Supergirl musical crossover’s most epic moments, a giant dance number set in a ’40s nightclub to Jackie DeShannon’s “Put a Little Love in Your Heart.”

The Glee alum has reunited with former costars and classmates to play the Music Meister, a dastardly villain who causes his victims to break into song — a role first made famous when Neil Patrick Harris voiced the character during an episode of Batman: The Brave and the Bold.

During the crossover, however, the Meister sets his sights on The Flash (Grant Gustin) and Supergirl (Melissa Benoist), trapping them in an alternate reality movie musical in which their only means of escape is to play through the Meister’s script, complete with singing and dancing. EW hit the set to get Criss’ take on entering the world of singing superheroes

We’re 3 months away from this glitter-bomb and they gave us some stuff to scream about. I think I’ll do just that. I took my sweet time putting this together, I know, but there’s a fair bit to unpack and a lot to be excited about so, let’s go through it all!

Okay, so first things first: people are calling this a 2D movie and that’s not really that accurate.

It certainly has some 2D elements, like the backgrounds, but the style of animation only makes the characters look 2D, when in fact they’re 3D models.

You can tell in how they move. If I were to give you a still screen shot, you might guess that it was from a 2D animation, but in motion, you can tell what it actually is: cel-shading.

I had a hunch that’s what it was so I asked a storyboarder who worked on the MLP movie (and the show) if I was right and she said:

The program they’re using is ToonBoom, which does rigs with 2D toon shaders, among other things!

You know, I don’t often call things, but I fucking called it. Let me have this. Just to give you a quick definition from Wikipedia:

“Cel shading or toon shading is a type of non-photorealistic rendering designed to make 3-D computer graphics appear to be flat by using less shading color instead of a shade gradient or tints and shades.”

3-dimensional figure with cel shading, has the effect of making it  look 2D. Typically seen with thick outlines on the outside and little to no outlines on the inside:

(Team Fortress 2 itself isn’t normally cel shaded, but that’s a great example a fan made of what cel shading usually looked like when I was growing up)

Cel shading without outlines, as seen in Wind Waker.

  • Like I said, just seeing this still image, it looks 2D, but watching it move, you can tell there’s a 3rd dimension to the character with the features and lineart mapped out onto the models to make it look 2D
  • Which by the way, is really unique for a major release! I don’t know about anyone else, but I was excited that MLP: The Movie seemed to be 2-D since there hasn’t been a domestic 2-D animated movie since Winnie the Pooh in 2011. 6 damn years! While I maybe would’ve ideally liked a completely 2-D animated movie, the backgrounds and the cel shading works in really neat ways, and it will definitely make the movie stand out
  • The purely 3-D objects seem unfinished at the moment (but that’s not out of the ordinary, CGI seems to be one of the last processes). It needs texture or shading or something, and I can tell because most of the ship looks too soft (too much like a model) to be metal. I really think this will be fixed for the final product, but that’s probably the most jarring part of the style at the moment
  • Not all of the 3-D looks unfinished, but the best looking parts are still the painterly, 2-D stuff (look at those towers; they’re really stylized, but you can tell they’re 3D in a more 2D environment)
  • The light effects are definitely 3-D in the fireworks and rainboom
  • Oh, and speaking lighting, so much of it looks so pretty! There are one or two times when the colours are slightly off, but the majority of the time it looks freaking gorgeous
  • You can kinda see by looking at Rarity that the shading is juuust slightly off here (kinda like they were for the teaser trailer), but then you look in the background and see this BEAUTIFUL background and Twilight all upset and worried about this invasion, and it feels like such a nitpick to worry about what will probably still be cleaned up before it hits theaters
  • We also get some really great expressions, so they’re not really limited by the 3D models underneath (if I’m right about that)
  • Also, just as one last little note here, the style is detailed enough to see little things about the characters we didn’t know up until now, like the fact that the spines on the side of Spike’s head are translucent, or that the colours of RD’s mane aren’t 100% perfectly separated
  • Overall with the animation, I’m so impressed not only by how gorgeous it is,but by how willing they were to take a risk and incorporate a 3D element in the form of  (I think) cel-shading. This only really matches the creative spirit of the MLP team, though. Whether or not you agree on how well they always execute everything, they always try to step up their game with every new season and push themselves to be and do better.
  • And while I will say that if some of the more 3D parts (yeah, I’m talking about the zeppelin/airships mostly) aren’t fixed for the final release, I would have a bone to pick with them, but I have faith that we’ll be seeing a much smoother integration of that 3D on the big screen.

Story and Character Details

I really appreciate that they didn’t outright spoil anything too big. It’s definitely a well-cut trailer! We basically only know about the same information we did before, with just a hint or two as to things like who the true villain is.

  • Just based on the focus given to these characters in the trailer (and what I know of the Storm King’s characterization in the first Movie Prequel comic that was just released), seems like he’s not as big of a threat as the commander of his fleet, Tempest.
  • It’s a kind of villain we haven’t seen on the show or even in EQG, and not only that, but
  • She’s got a fantastic voice actress behind her, so she can pull off the deliciously evil vibe well without, say, reminding us too much of Chrysalis or other powerful animated villains from Disney classics
  • Plus her design with the broken horn and her magic sparking up out of it is instantly intriguing to me: for such a powerful presence, it’s awesome to see her weakness (and most likely shady past) is always on display—especially for a commander character, that’s just really cool
  • Grubber seems to be pretty standard so far, nothing he’s done has really impressed me quite yet, but I’m hoping his best stuff is saved for the movie itself
  • The sky pirates (or skyrates) look like a lot of fun, and in context I can see how well the bipedal birb pirate blends with the universe (the bipedal designs were the ones I had the most trouble with)
  • On top of that, we have sea ponies at last! And they’re far more adorable than I ever could’ve hoped
  • The original sea pony designs from G1 looked a lot more like sea horses, with curling tails and fins on either side, but I think the meraid-ish look is both more marketable for Hasbro and more appealing to look at (the original sea ponies always seemed like a joke in the fandom to me, I admittedly never understood why people would actually want it in G4)
  • And a-ha! Good queens do exist! Poor Celestia and Luna. Always a princess, never a queen.
  • Oh, and Seaquestria? It’s freakin’ beautiful. I LOVE the rich blues and purples here. If you haven’t had a chance to check out the 360 image of the underwater palace complete with an excellent piece of background music, treat yourself.
  • The Mane 6′s sea pony designs are pretty dang adorable. I don’t have anything interesting to say, I just like the cute water horses, okay?

Minor Details and Incidentals

I’ll start out by saying Twilight’s narration in the trailer is pretty standard, but still heartwarming (mostly because I already know and love these characters though). It sort of reminds me of the bits of narration from the How to Train Your Dragon movies, although those had a bit more character to them.

The what could possible go wrong? line, though. It just makes me laugh thinking of all the flashbacks we could have to the series.

I guess she’s talking about that festival specifically that she’s organizing, and in that way it’s a show of character development (in a similar way to the character development on display in A Flurry of Emotions, where Twilight is told she’s late and doesn’t have a panic attack or worry about what could go wrong… too much), but it’s still hilarious to contrast the idea that nothing could go wrong in Equestria to… literally all of the show.

  • AJ and RD protecting their friends even before the others have gotten over the shock of whatever they’re seeing tho
  • Starlight and Trixie get a bit of screen-time together and it’s adorable. Starlight might be stuck in Canterlot for the duration of the adventure, but I’m glad to see her included. Characters like Discord who might be too hard to explain to new audiences are understandable losses, but even if Starlight’s cameo is brief, it’s good to see her role acknowledged
  • In terms of music, Sia’s looking adorable so far, and Lukas Graham’s as of yet unreleased Off to See the World sounds pretty catchy (it’s the song at the end of the trailer), so they’ve got talent behind the vocals!
  • Jumping back to little details, it’s neat how sea pony magic has a very distinct look from unicorn/alicorn magic. Also, the bubbles are really cute
  • And, okay, I just wanted to take a minute to appreciate how serious this ponk is. Can we all just stop and take a look, because in this scene Twilight’s saying how she’s the one Tempest is after, and she should probably face this alone, which seems to be our Princess of Friendship’s big dilemma in this movie, and Pinkie’s clearly trying to tell her she’s crazy
  • Gotta love that they didn’t just go for hyperactive comic relief Pinkie Pie; they don’t seem to be boiling down these characters to just one trait (which is partially why I loved the moment where RD and AJ defend the girls; RD’s ego will no doubt be on display throughout the movie, but you’ll also see she’s ready to lay down her life for her friends)
  • And hey, lookie here! Canterlot got a make-over… and a contractor. There’s more pink than there typically is and it doesn’t necessarily match what we’ve seen of it in the show. Especially places like the throne room:
  • And you know, I’m a little torn on this detail? It’s beautiful, and I’m digging the starry night mosiac they’ve got going on back there, but it would’ve been nice to see the throne room we know and love rendered in this new style, you know? I’m gonna miss the deep magentas and the stain glass windows of the Mane 6′s accomplishments. I know that’s mostly the fangirl in me, but I like seeing continuity nods back to the show (like hey look: Cadence gets a cameo!)
  • Unless Canterlot gets destroyed and subsequently rebuilt in the season 7 finale, in which case I’ll shut my mouth
  • Speaking of which, I still have to wonder exactly when this will take place in the series, or if it exists slightly to the left of canon like the Equestria Girls movies (which, I mean, I consider canon, but still). I know there’s ties into the comics, but I wonder if/when the show will acknowledge the events of the movie… I guess only time will tell

And for now, I think that about wraps it up! All in all, I’m beyond excited to see this thing, as anyone could’ve guessed.

It should also be noted that a lot of kids movie trailers focus on the fun, comedic portions of the movie, so while I do think it’s mostly going to feel like this, I’m also looking forward to the more character-driven feelsy parts. As we well know, you can never get the full scope of a movie from just the trailer, but it’s usually especially true for kids movies.

Even just from what we have seen, it looks like we’re in for a ride. Can’t wait to get on.

Pairing-Ethan x Reader

A/n- It’s weird how fast my fandom can change. I went from Tv’s Supernatural to Youtube’s Markiplier and Ethan. I’m weird, and have too much time on my hands. Also, sorry it’s short.
