I said no to Marion Guthrie’s plan despite having no alternative and at the risk of losing the entire endeavor because I refuse to situate a man in a position where he might interfere one day with my ability to repair things with you.
I think the thing I love the most about Mad Max: Fury Road is the fact that while it holds out this persona as ‘hey look some classic post-apocalypse action flick’, it actually breaks and twists a ton of genre tropes. It’s a futuristic desert world, but there is COLOR COLOR COLOR literally EVERYWHERE, it’s not some sepia-toned snooze fest. Immortan Joe isn’t the usual post-apocalypse villain, either–he’s not a sickly philosophizing bureaucrat, he’s just over-powerful and shamelessly selfish. (Plus the overabundance of cool females is fairly unusual in an action movie and exceedingly welcome, but that’s a dead horse I’m going to refrain from beating here).
But my favorite subverted trope in the whole film comes at the end. Like a The Book of Eli or I Am Legend, the movie holds forth the promise of some semi-civilized remnant of humanity that the heroes have only to reach to be safe. The entire plot revolves around Furiosa, and eventually Max, trying to get everyone to the Green Place of Many Mothers; somewhere where plants and kindness still exist, somewhere where the horrors of Immortan Joe’s tyranny can be left behind and forgotten. And then comes the kicker: the Green Place is no longer. It’s as dead and poisoned as everything else, turned into a noxious, useless swamp. And then the heroes have a choice: keep running towards some distant Green Land, some half-hopeless promise–or go back and fight. And THEY GO BACK. And they FIGHT. And in fighting, they save not only themselves but who knows how many others–all the people living under Immortan Joe’s sorry excuse for a rule.
I just love that the solution was not, for once, simply to flee and ignore and save yourselves, but to turn, to hold your ground, and to destroy the evil instead of letting it destroy anyone or anything else.
Ok I haven't played the game yet really want to though. I watched Jacksepticeyes play threw and I got hooked on it. So my question to you is this. Would/did you sacrifice chloe. If so why if not (good choice) I wouldn't sacrifice her even if I knew I could go back. I would sacrifice arcadia bay instead
Well… Truth is that I sacrificed Chloe the first time I played. I thought I shouldn’t kill a whole town just for one person and the truth is that I was really, really WRONG.
Of course, I regretted it the second after I made my choice and I re-started the game again and changed some of my decisions and the ending too.
It’s Max’s destiny to save Chloe. Her power starts when she first saved her. Max feels really alone before Chloe shows up again so I think Max would really sacrifice the whole town. In fact, she is saying it before we have to choose:
- I always wanted my life to be an adventure, but not without you.
- You’re my number one priority now.
- I won’t trade you.
Yes, we are the players, but we can’t forget that we are playing as a character. I didn’t think my choice very well, I should’ve known that Max is only happy when Chloe is with her.
YouTuber playing Life is Strange, talking about Chloe Price:
“To have friends like that, better not have them”
I strongly disagree…
…and I’ll explain why.
As a person who has had a lot of different friends, I find in Chloe a friend who I always wanted to have.
Chloe is a person with a difficult character. She is angry because she lost her father and her girlfriend. She feels lonely and she always tries to blame someone else when something doesn’t work out for her (this means that she is proud but insecure). She has her rage on, we all know it and maybe some of you hate that about her (I can’t include myself because I’d be hypocrite as I have my rage on too).
She will do whatever needs to be done for a friend.
Can’t we all agree that’s the most important thing when we have a friend?
Chloe owed a lot of money to Frank because she wanted to go away with Rachel, just in case “she showed up”.
Chloe tried to get money from Nathan because she wanted to go away with Rachel, just in case “she showed up”.
Chloe wanted to sacrifice herself for the town she hated. Moreover, she would sacrifice herself for Max, for her friend. She actually dies trying to find Rachel. She blames herself for not saving Max in the Dark Room.
Now we can say that Chloe is not a selfish person. First reason to want her as a friend.
She is crazy
I love crazy and careless people. I love people who just don’t give a fuck about other’s opinion. Because they are the BEST people ever. They won’t listen to gossip about you, they won’t care about your hair, your clothes, your shoes…
I love crazy people because they want to have fun and enjoy their life. I always say that Chloe is my spirit animal because I’d love to be so careless. I’d be happier for sure. Maybe, if I had a friend like her I would be happier because she’d try to do crazy things with me.
Midnight swim? Why the fuck not? I’m in.
She is kind
I won’t say anything about this. Just see:
She is brave
Not everyone would defend you like Chloe defends Max. That’s something to think about.
I would write more and more about why I’d love having a friend like Chloe. But I think this is enough.
A simple tutorial on how to make your very own bookmarks.
Laser Printer Paper (preferably 28lb, but 24lb is also fine)
Pretty Poster Board or Scrapbooking Paper
Scissors & Paper Trimmer
Laminator (if you don’t have one, you can buy one at WalMart for $20. They’re SUPER useful to have, especially if you make artsy stuff a lot.)
Bookmark Tassels (Optional)
1/8 Inch Hole Punch (Optional)
First, determine the size of bookmarks you want to make. (Mine are typically 2″ x 6.5″.) When you’ve decided on a size that you like, create a new canvas in Photoshop with those dimensions, and make sure it is set to AT LEAST300 DPI.
Draw your bookmark design! Make sure all of your important stuff doesn’t get too close to your edges because you want to leave a tiiiiiny bit of room for error just in case you mess up when you cut them out.
After your bookmark design(s) is done, create another new Photoshop canvas that is 8.5″ x 11″ and set to the same DPI as your bookmarks.
Drag and drop as many of your book mark designs as you can onto your new 8.5 x 11 canvas. Don’t put them very close together, though, as you want to leave enough room to comfortably cut them out later.
Assuming you don’t have a laser printer, we’re gonna take a little trip to Staples/Office Depot/Office Max!
Save that canvas with all your bookmarks on it as a JPEG and put it on a flash drive. Grab a small stack of your own paper and put it in a folder (make sure you have a way to show the printer what type of paper it is. You may just wanna bring the whole pack with you, because I know some stores want to make sure you’re giving them laser printer paper to print on, as other paper types will mess up their machines).
Note:I’m not sure about Office Depot/Office Max, but I KNOW Staples will only charge around $0.50 per page to print your image out if you bring your own paper! ♥
Take the flash drive and your paper with you to your nearest office supply store.
Ask the printer there to print out however many copies you want. If you’re very particular about the size of the bookmarks, make sure to tell them to not have it set to “Fit to Size” and instead let it print at 100%.
Once your bookmark copies are printed, it’s time to cut them out!
The best way to do this is to use a paper trimmer. You can get a cheap one from WalMart or Michaels for about $5. They’re SUPER useful to have and make cutting straight edges a million times easier.
The reason you want to cut them out before you glue them your poster board/decorative paper is because you want to be able to fit as many bookmarks as you can onto the posters so that you don’t waste any.
Time to glue them to your poster(s)/scrap book paper!
I try to buy really unique posterboard that catches the eye and matches the colour schemes of my bookmarks. I usually end up getting metallic colours or holographic poster/paper because that’s what I personally like. I would advise staying away from anything that has textures, though, since you’re going to laminate these later.
Make sure you’re gluing your bookmarks to the BACK of the poster board.
Also, make sure you coat all edges and corners, as you don’t want anything to curl up. A good tip I find is lining any of your bookmark edges up to the edges of the poster board. That way it’s just one or two less edge(s) you have to cut off.
Time to cut out the bookmarks again!
Get as close to the bookmark’s edge as you can so you don’t leave any white poster board backing hanging off the edge. If you have to, it’s totally fine to cut off a millimeter of your bookmark design just to make sure you have a clean trim.
Laminate! Since I already have some Mettaton bookmarks laminated, I’ll use them for this example.
Make sure that when you slip your bookmarks into the lamination sheet, they have a decent amount of space between them. If they get too close, the lamination might not seal all of the way around each bookmark.
Once you get all of your bookmarks laminated, we once again have to cut them out.
It’s very important to leave about a third of a centimeter of lamination on the edge of your bookmarks. If you cut right along the edge of the bookmark, the lamination will eventually peal off, and we don’t want that. We want to keep it nice and sealed.
Be sure to trim the corners a little bit, since they can be kinda sharp and poke you pretty bad.
This part is completely optional, but I love to take an 1/8 inch hole punch and punch a little hole in the top of the bookmark and add a little tassel decoration.
You can find these tassels online from China on Ebay or Aliexpress for pretty cheap. The prices are all about the same no matter who you buy from, so I can’t really give a specific vendor who has the best prices. (Note: pretty obvious, but if you buy them within the US, you’re gonna pay a lot more.)
If none of my instructions have made any sense, this video does a wonderful job of explaining the process of bookmark making for artist alleys and whatnot.
A look at everyone’s favorite one eyed murder machine, from self destructive beginnings to an understanding with a deadly enemy. His story has always been entangled with Cyclonus from the very beginning. Their relationship evolved from bitter rivalry to one of the best developed friendships in the comic. The tired old warrior played a huge role in Whirl’s own personal journey aboard the Lost Light.
It started from the very first issue, Whirl was introed in a very strange and horrifying situation, but his intentions were never spelled out in the comic, lets take a look at the clues we have.
Emptied gas cans, a lit match, dead bodies, Whirl wasn’t just trying to destroy the sweeps, he was about ready to commit suicide when Cyclonus walked in.
Did the interruption make him lose his nerve? Was he just so angry that he’d come to this point that he took it out on the bewildered old samurai? Whatever the case, it makes a little more sense that Whirl would have such a strong reaction if he had been seconds away from ending his own life in a giant blazing ball of fire.
Whirl brought up his attempt again when he taunted the unstable Fort Max during issue 15’s hostage crisis.
He wasn’t just being cruel when he told Max that the only way out of his problems was to kill himself. At this point, Whirl’s still fantasizing about dying in that big ball of fire. How spectacular it would have been if he had just been able to end it all back on Cybertron? What if he could push Fort Max into doing what he couldn’t? In that moment he was ready to let Rung die with him, just to have it be over. Something stopped him short, he finally shut up when Fort Max threatened to blow his head off and then later saves Rung’s life by giving Max info about himself. The bird teeters on the edge of nilistic oblivion, but he never can quite throw himself over. Even in those early issues he was desperately looking for a reason to keep on living.
Enter Cyclonus: Rung probably had a huge role in backing Whirl of the precipice of self termination, but Cyclonus was definitely a factor. Whirl seemed to like him, here was this big lethal bot who used his fists as projectile weapons, what’s not to like? There was just the little matter of that time Whirl tried to senselessly murder Cyclonus with no explanation and Cyclonus’ retaliatory promise to assassinate Whirl the near future. All those pesky details got in the way.
He tried to apologize to Cyclonus twice. twice! That was the most socially savvy thing we see Whirl do until Spotlight Trailcutter.
And what did Cyclonus say to that?
He completely rejects Whirl’s apology and then threatens to murder him..again. As you do! Cyclonus is no slouch with words when he decides to use them. He’s not only going to kill you, but he’ll do it while you sleep, probably more than once.
Suddenly Whirl has a reason to fight for his own life - Pure spite.
Let me explain - Whirl uses anger and other violent emotions to keep himself afloat. Staying alive because of friends, companionship or love was not going to work, those softer emotions were already bringing him too close to the edge.
Spite, on the other hand, Whirl can do spite. As soon as Cyclonus told Whirl “I’m still going to kill you. All that changes is the manner of your death, which becomes more elaborate and protracted by the day.”, bam, suddenly he had the gift of Cyclonus’ hatred and loathing as motivation to hold onto life a little harder. If he died, that moldy old samurai would get his wish, and Whirl wasn’t going to give him the satisfaction!
His own life suddenly mattered to him because someone else wanted to end it on their terms. Those threats got Whirl so wound up that the very next thing he did was try to assassinate Cy in cold blood with the same kind of ‘big explosion’ scenario that he had previously tried to die from on two separate occasions. He’s a little fixated.
(^^this is where Whirl learned it was a bad idea to hurt the tiny bots, because they give him uncomfortable attacks of conscious)
A good old-fashioned bitter rivalry was exactly what Whirl needed in those first few months after he hit rock bottom. He could dip his bird claws into other kinds of relationships while still having something based on his favorite emotions to fall back on. It was never going to be sunshine and lollipops with Whirl, but at least when he tried to die in season two, it was for causes that he believed in (protect the child and Megatron should die respectively, once again the tiny bots prove to be Whirl’s one weakness).
Deep into season 2, that foundation of grudging respect and animosity between Cyclonus and Whirl developed into the strongest friendship Whirl has to date. The bird was never one for interpersonal relationships, he was much more comfortable going it alone and occasionally muscling in on other friend groups. At this point, Cyclonus had decided not to kill Whirl anymore after their playdate on Luna 1.
Whirl’s loner status changed with the Getaway incident.
Issue #47 Cyclonus came to Whirl for advice about his relationship. This was so completely out of nowhere that Whirl went along with it. He was brutally honest, and I think he was expecting hostility for his answers, instead, Cy responded with restrained honesty of his own when Whirl asked why he had come to him for advice-
And what does Whirl immediately do next?
Whirl has never given a damn about Tailgate, or anyone besides Rung. Now he’s sticking his neck out long time rival / cohort / enemy. He wants to call off a plan that he himself was ready to die for earlier in the series.
He’s doing this not for Tailgate’s sake, but for Cyclonus. He knows how devastated he would be if he lost Tailgate, and Cyclonus’ wellbeing was important enough for Whirl to defend. Before Whirl even spoke to Getaway, he was going to warn Cyclonus about what was happening to his minibot and not even a shot with the mind gun was going to get in his way.
In that moment, Cyclonus became Whirl 2nd friend in the entire galaxy. There’s a trust between them that didn’t exist before. Whirl even cares enough about Cy to pester him about his relationship with Tailgate much later (he saved Tailgate’s butt so now he’s invested).
(Mr ‘I don’t do relationships but I’m invested in your relationship’)^^
I can’t stress enough how rare it is for Whirl to let himself care about anyone other then himself. Remember that time he started a war to get revenge on the functionalists for ruining his life? That’s the same Whirl that now gives a damn about Cyclonus’ love life. As you can see, Cy even answers the bird’s very personal questions because Whirl is not an obstacle anymore. He became someone that Cy can trust. Perhaps even a friend?
As of typing this, Issue 53 was the last time we touched on Whirl’s story. I think this relationship, which was so hard fought and contentious is going to be important moving forward for both their character arcs. Cyclonus helped Whirl crawl out of the hole he had buried himself in with his distain and hatred, and Whirl became one of the few people that Cyclonus can rely on and trust with his feelings.
Cyclonus was there when Whirl was at his lowest and Whirl returned the favor two seasons later. They have played huge roles in each other’s lives and now they have a bond that won’t easily be broken.
Friendship between two deadly killing machines is a beautiful thing.
Max is from the books, and Madzie is from the TV show, in an AU I combined both.
Magnus woke up to an empty bed. He got scared for a second, it was like three in the morning, and he was sure Alec went to bed with him. He got out quickly and put on a robe. God, his son and daughter were just in the other rooms. Alec and Magnus got Madzie six months ago, after finally being able to rescue her; a year after they became an oficial couple; and Max? Max was left at the entrance of the institute two months ago, and with some persuasion, Alec finally accept to adopt him too. Madzie was 7, Max was 1; but maybe Alec finally realized it was too much for him. That being the father of a kid (warlock kid) wasn’t that bad, but of 2? And abobe that one of them being a crying, sweet baby? Magnus felt a shot in his chest. He loved Alec, and the idea of having a family with him, made him the happiest person alive, but maybe Alec didn’t felt that way.
He checked Madzie’s room first, she was sleeping peacefully on her bed, little harmless shots of pink magic coming out of her little fingers. Magnus smile and fixed the blanked on his daughter’s body, then closed the door and silently went to Max’s room. He frowned when he saw the door slightly open. But the moment he reached his son’s room, he froze dead on the door.
Alec was there, his beautiful lover, with dark circles on his eyes that were dimly illuminated by dark blue sparks of magic. He looked completely tired but at the same time in complete peace, so happy that Magnus felt his heart racing. Max was in his arms, his eyes wide and cristal with a trace of tears that indicated he’d been crying. But he wasn’t anymore, he was looking with complete adoration at his father, one small blue hand wrapped around a big finger. Alec was singing, a lullaby, he wasn’t a good singer but in the soft whisper he was chanting, it sounded beautiful. The song was a mixture of latin and old english, Magnus got some parts of the lyrics, things about protection, love, and a baby becoming his parent’s pride. It was so pure and beautiful that it left Magnus breathless.
He realized it was his son’s reaction too. Because he had stoped crying and was paying full attention to the song, he was looking straight into his father’s eyes, as if he could read his pure soul while listening; also he had a trace of a soft smile in his lips, Magnus wanted to kiss him. Actually he wanted to cry out of happiness, then kiss his son, and then his boyfriend. Alec’s look over Max, his warlock son, made any doubt Magnus had before disappear. He was looking at him with the same pure adoration, smiling at his son’s reaction over the song; moving his finger softly to keep Max’s concentration on him, Magnus was overwhelmed and mesmerized.
Alec finish the song and started speaking, “I see you liked the song, honey,” he whispered. “You see? There is no need to cry and wake up daddy. Your papa is here with you and you know I love you and protect you, baby.” Max pouted beautifully at the words and hugged his father, resting his little blue face and dark blue hair in his shoulder. Alec smiled and kissed his son; Magnus melted.
“I love you, and you’ll be fine… By the Angel!” He exclaimed over a louder whisper when he turned around and saw Magnus. “Magnus, how long have you been there?” When Max felt the change in his papa’s body he looked up, towards his dad; and the warlock took a deep breath.
“Long enough. You weren’t in bed and I wanted to check the kids”, he was surprised of how wrecked his voice sounded. Alec crossed the room in long fast steps, with a deep frown.
“Babe, are you crying?” And with that Magnus realized why his voice was like that. Alec made him cry. His sweet boyfriend put a hand on his cheek, removing a tear gently. Max was curious so he poked with a tiny finger the other tear. Magnus smiled and kissed his son’s hand.
“I guess I am. But don’t worry sweetheart, they are touched tears because of the scene I just saw.” Alec blushed but smile too, kissing his son again.
“I heard him crying and I din’t want him to wake you or Madzie up, so I remember a lullaby that mom used to sing to me to make me stop crying; and well, Max liked it more than I used to when I was young.” Magnus smiled and kissed Alec softly.
“Clearly, I think it’s because you sing better than your mom.” Alec laughed softly and started kissing Magnus again. They kissed until they felt a small finger pocking at their entwined lips. They pulled away to see Max looking at them with a curiosity frown; Alec blushed but Magnus giggled, kissing his son’s head, and then his cheek.
“Maybe it’ll be better if we sleep with him,” Magnus suggested. Alec nodded and pecked his son.
“I know the song is pretty, but not to the point of making people cry.” He pointed out. Magnus smiled again.
“It wasn’t only the song, it was you and… And the way you two were looking at each other. I never in my life would’ve imagine a Shadowhunter loving a downwolder so unconditionally, and you, Alec, you love three. I’m lucky to be one of them, and my children are the other two. I’ve dreamed of having a family for a while know, and you know that the downwolders that I take are like my kids. But now I really have two of my own, and you, a Shadohunter, the love of my life, are the father of those kids. I was just so happy to have you.” Magnus’ voice became lower with each word, but Alec heard him perfectly; he melted, his eyes where looking at Magnus with so much love he felt like he was going to combust.
“I love you, Magnus,” he finally whisper. “I love you, and I could never asked for someone better to be the father of my children too. And I love our sons, doesn’t matter what they are. One they they’ll be just as amazing as you, and I’m going to be more that very proud of them.” Magnus smiled and kissed Alec again until Max pocked at their lips again.
“I love you too,” Magnus answered resting his forehead agains Alec’s.
“Daddy, what’s going on?” A sleepy voice came from the door. When they pulled completely away, they saw Madzie, rubbing an eye with an sleepy pout. Magnus knelt to be at her height.
“Did we wake you up, my sweet dolphin?” He asked caressing her hair. Magnus called her that because Madzie liked dolphins and since she had gills, he thought that, just as blueberry was accurate for his blue skinned son, sweet or little dolphin was perfect for his daughter. Madzie shooked her head.
“I just woke, and then I heard papa’s whisper so I came.”
“We are going to take your brother to sleep with us, he was crying a lot,” Alec told her while Max was pulling at his hair in a playful manner. “Wanna come, darling?” He asked. Madzie smile, a sweet inocente smile that could light a room; and then nodded.
“Ok,” Magnus said taking her in his arms as they walked out of the room. When they where all settled in the bed, Max was already falling asleep. Alec told the three members of his family how much he loved them, with a kiss for each of them. Magnus did the same and then Madzie in a lazy voice said:
“I love you too daddy and papa. Thank you for saving me and Max.” That made the two fathers melt before going to sleep with a smile on their faces.
Can you do a prompt where Victoria isn't actually mean but comes of as such like "Max looks so pretty" and max is like "what?" And Victoria is just flustered and caught off guard and says the "I SAID YOU LOOKED SHITTY GO FUCK YOUR SELFIE" (doesn't have to contain that but I think it would be cute to see that Victoria only acts like that because she is flustered and crushing hard on max XD)
How to Deal with Crushes
Contrary to Victoria’s surname, she does not in fact “chase” anyone or anything. If anything, people chase after the Chase’s and the same principle is applied to Victoria, just look at her Vortex Club lackeys. Of course they’d follow her, who wouldn’t? She’s popular, efficient, and everything they could only hope to be. Whatever else she didn’t have, she grabbed onto without unnecessary chasing. If she wants something then she gets it, end of story.
So it’s safe to say that she is most definitely not crushing on Max Caulfield.
Nope, she’s not falling for her waif hipster bullshit and her awkward shy pretense. The girl was short too so Victoria always ends up literally looking down on her and her annoying doe-eyed expression that seem to bring out her freckles. Especially those damn freckles. She would bet that underneath those poorly coordinated bargain clothes that Max had matching freckles on her shoulders which is lame. She’s a walking fashion disaster and Victoria has to stop her hands from tearing away those hideous clothes not because she wants her naked or anything, those clothes are just that terrible.
And her pictures? Selfies! Not even the kind that’s thought through and planned. No, Max just takes ordinary selfies. The kind of selfies that you post on social media and not in art galleries. The kind of selfies that show what her face looks like in the morning where the lighting is just right to add depth to her annoying freckles. The kind of selfies that reveal to Victoria the undeniable truth that Max is kind of cute.
God, she is pining over her so hard.
But she can’t let anyone else know that. See it from her point of view. She’s spent so much into her heartless bitch reputation that she can’t just let go all because of some dumb hipster with a cute face and a good eye for photography. She almost forgot about that part. Max has terrifying skill with the camera even though she doesn’t even know it. Victoria’s photos look amateur even next to some of Max’s selfies. That’s also one more thing she won’t admit out loud.
Max’s talent infuriates her just as much as it turns her on. She makes it look so easy, so effortless. She’s just using her retro-cam and the quality of her photos are worth more than what the best studio can produce. Max is Victoria’s competition and she hasn’t met someone that could fit the rival role so well in terms of skill. She likes to entertain the thought that maybe Max could fit the girlfriend role while at it too. One time she commented on Victoria’s photos being Avedon-esque and Victoria practically swooned inside. Still swooning about that until now.
Victoria is sitting on one of the benches on campus. It’s not like she deliberately chose this particular bench because she spotted the familiar flash and whir of a certain hipster’s camera nearby. It’s Max. Of course it has to be Max, who else? Victoria would never sit on this godawful excuses for furniture if she had a choice. The view helps her forget that her car has better cushioning.
Max is in her element again, with her back at Victoria, taking a photo of whatever. It’s sunset and with it there’s a poignant sense of romanticism painted across the campus. The sun’s rays sift through the trees and fall onto Max just right to give her this ethereal shine. Victoria captures her in the moment without even thinking. It’s only after the click of the shutter does she realize that she’s already looking through the viewfinder. She pulls back and stares at the photo she doesn’t remember taking and then back at the subject in front of her. While the photo was gorgeous like all her work naturally, it could only hope to capture the actual beauty before her.
“She’s so pretty.” Victoria almost sighs dreamily out of earshot.
Or what she thought was out of earshot since Max’s head spins so fast at the catch of her words. She shoots her a confused look. “What?”
And oh, god. Max looks way better with her face showing and she’s wearing that stupid doe-eyed look again and fuck, fuck. Victoria’s brain goes into panic mode. She doesn’t know what to say and it does not help that Max’s face is so distracting. The lighting shifted along with her movement and glistens along her frame and fuck, she looks lame in her clothes but she also looks radiant like what the fuck? And Victoria is still staring and oh, god what should she say?
“I SAID YOU LOOK SHITTY!” She yells at her with too much force to sell the intended spite. Nice one, Victoria. Smooth save. That will definitely tell Max that she is interested in her. Why don’t she go ahead and add some more flirty undertones. “GO FUCK YOUR SELFIE.” There it is. The words come out of her mouth as if on auto. Despite her face sporting a domineering look, Victoria very much wants to hide her embarrassment. It’s a good thing that she can hide her blush underneath her usual layers of anger.
Max looks more confused than offended and Victoria just wishes for her to go away so she could make a dash for her car and scream there. “Okay…?” She asks more than says, as if testing the waters. Victoria can’t help but snarl back just out of reflex and it’s enough to tell Max that the water is boiling and there’s a high chance that it will turn into a bloodbath. She sighs and it almost sounds like she was expecting something different.
Victoria already has plans on berating herself for again ruining another moment with Max and will do so as soon as she walks away but Max has other plans. There’s that bright flash again only this time it’s aimed at her. The whir of the camera isn’t lost to the buzzing in her brain. “Did you just…?” She can’t quite bring herself to finish her sentence, she can’t trust herself anymore.
Max is still in her element, not at all put-off by Victoria’s gaping, it must be the camera. There’s something empowering about holding a camera that makes Max bolder than her usual shy self, not that Victoria would notice that. Max just takes the photo as it develops with her nimble fingers. Victoria could tell the exact moment that it finishes when Max’s face erupts into a smile so wide she doubts it could fit the frame of a photo. “This one’s a keeper.” She shows it to her and Victoria feels her breath catch in her throat.
At first glance, Victoria’s posture in the shot looks intimidating but that’s not the main point. The focus is her face. She thought she was making just another one of her mean looks but evidence speaks otherwise. Her eyes are smoldering as the swathes over her and it almost makes her look warm. Warm and inviting. She can’t tell if it’s from the photo or the feeling in her chest but there’s a warmth that wasn’t there before. “This is…”
“Pretty, I guess.” Max casually shrugs and Victoria’s head snaps up at the word. Just when she thinks that a smile looks cute on Max, she’s annoyingly adorable with a smirk too. “Pretty awesome.” She’s teasing. The hipster actually heard her and she’s flaunting it and Victoria should be mad at anyone who dares talk back to her but all she can think of is how Max is obviously flirting with her and she’s so happy that even her scowl looks friendly enough.
This is her chance! She can feel it with her heart beating so fast. Victoria has never run in her life aside for fitness but her heart is hammering wildly like it does when she jogs. Except she’s not running right now but it’s something similar. This is a chase and Max is her target and she can swear that she’s so close. She swears she almost feels it with her fingertips like how hers is brushing over the photo. The mood is set and the setting is just right. She’s going to do this and she’s going to get this right. She can’t mess this up now.
“Pretty amateur, smallfield.” And great, we’re back to gradeschool flirting again. Victoria represses the urge to just hit herself for being so lame. Really? Is that the best she can give? And what’s with that stupid nickname? She panicked okay. She has boys wrapped around her finger but she can’t fucking compliment a hipster girl that she likes without burying it under seven layers of insult.
“Still pretty.” Max insists with a smaller but still cute smile. She then takes back the photo and places it securely in her bag. Victoria tries not to think too much about the fact that she might even see the photo on the wall of Max’s room. “I guess it was nice talking to you, Victoria.”
“Yeah and you’re such a delight yourself. Get out of my face.” Victoria almost praises herself because the first sentence is the closest thing she’s gotten to an actual compliment. Max is already walking away but Victoria waits until she’s out of sight. Too bad she isn’t out of mind. Max calling her pretty is up there on her best-memories list next to their Avedon-moment. Max is also coincidentally on her to-do list.
