Death: the fact that Saturn takes around 29 ½ years to orbit the Sun, and the average lifespan of a person in the dark ages was 30 years old.
Limitations, restriction, caution, binding, and protection: Saturn was the last visible planet known to ancient astrologers, plus the order brought from chaos of Saturn’s rings.
Discipline, responsibility, and boundaries: represented by the gravitational force that holds Saturn’s rings in place, and Saturn’s rings in general.
Structure, order, and chaos: represented by Saturn’s ability to bring in chaotic debris and ice to form its rings.
Consequence, justice, life lessons, and manifestation: Saturn, named for the Roman equivalent of the Greek Cronus/Kronus, is known as the “God” of agriculture, harvest, and time (although, Cronus is actually known as the leader of the Titans).
Harvest, in this case, relates to reaping both rewards and consequences for one’s actions, and time relates to a destructive force that all beings are subject to.
These interpretations are based on my personal understanding, and I don’t claim that they are totally accurate, but I mainly wrote this for personal use and decided to share my findings.
If you are between the age of 27-31 or 57-61 and life keeps punching you in the face, may you be redirected with ease and may life become brighter for you quickly. May you heal, figure out your next move, and be confident and comfortable with who you are and where you are in life.
Schedules for the retrograde of certain planets can be found online - quite often coming with tips and instructions on “damage control” on the their impact. These are often mundane actions and precautions, which I find quite strange considering retrograde is a spiritual matter.
Are there no witchy solutions to retrograde?
Of course there are! Remember, where the rest of the world sees a wall, we see a window.
The idea behind retrograde isn’t that the planet in retrograde itself is malfunctioning (duh), it’s just that its influence on our planet arrives in reverse. The clear solution to that would be to somehow acquire the planet’s energy in direct revolution.
How? We will be dealing with three methods:
Bubble Method - before retrograde pre-shadow
Talisman - before retrograde pre-shadow
Energy Correction - during retrograde
1. Bubble Method This involves gathering the energy from the planet which retrograde you’re preparing for and creating a bubble to protect yourself, a place or an object from the reverse influence.
Gather the direct energy from the planet with whatever means you choose - energy manipulation, visualization, ritual, chant, etc. Then, create a bubble around the thing you want to protect from retrograde. You may want to do this on your computers, phones, writing and drawing instruments and mouth during Mercury retrograde, for example.
2. Talisman Create a talisman of the planet which retrograde you’re preparing for. Draw the symbol of the planet, sigilize its name, etc. Charge it with the energy from the planet while in direct. Try to pack as much energy as you can into the talisman. Keep it on your person for the duration of the retrograde and its post-shadow. At times when you need it most, hold on to it and draw power from it.
3. Energy Correction For this method, we will be dealing with the retrograde energy directly.
Think of the energy coming from planets as gargantuan clouds of energy that actually comprise of tiny particles of energy spinning in a certain direction. When they are direct, they spin deosil (for example - no one knows for sure). And, when they are in retrograde, they spin widdershins, instead.
What you would want to do, then, is to manually spin these particles in the opposite direction - from retrograde to direct. Feel your environment - get a broad grip on the influence as a whole. Then, like a camera coming into focus, begin to notice the countless particles of the planet’s energy. Feel them slowing to a complete stop, and then spinning in the opposite direction. You should feel a sense of “correctness” or comfort from this. You can do this on individual objects or even people.
If you need some guides on developing your energy manipulation skills for this method, I strongly suggest @windvexer‘s articles.
Some people find that retrogrades are actually helpful in that they provide the challenge necessary to improve in those areas. They believe that Mercury retrograde may force us to become more careful, and therefore better communicators. Venus retrograde may reveal the relationships that may in fact be duplicitous or harmful. When deciding whether to use these solutions or not, exercise discretion. There may be times wherein you just cannot deal with any more spiritual adversity. These solutions are for those times.
Know that Jupiter and
Saturn, instead of their influences reversing, they are emphasized and
amplified during retrograde. This guide may still be helpful for Saturn
retrograde and even Jupiter retrograde if you’re masochistic.
How do I know these solutions work? Bitch have you read this article this article is bomb af get on my level hon bon when ya gon get these slay-ass-even-during-Mercury-retrograde writing skills boooooooo?
There you have it! You are now a strong, independent witch that don’t need no retrograde.
Saturn is the sixth planet from the Sun. Like the other gas giants, scientists can’t be exactly sure how Saturn formed, but many believe its breathtaking rings have been there since the very beginning. One theory posits that the rings were once an early moon of Saturn whose orbit brought it closer and closer to Saturn where eventually it was ripped apart by tidal forces; a large collision may also have destroyed it. Another theory suggests that the rings are leftover material from the area of the solar system’s primordial nebula where Saturn formed. The Grand Tack Hypothesis, which explains our solar system’s formation through a theoretical Jovian migration to as far inward as Mars, suggests that Saturn getting locked in orbital resonance with Jupiter during its migration forward prevented Jupiter from going all the way through the inner solar system.
Saturn is the second largest planet, but the least dense one. Saturn is less dense than water.
It takes Saturn 29.7 years to travel around the Sun and about 10.5 hours for a complete Saturnian day.
Saturn’s largest moon, Titan, is larger than the planet Mercury. It’s not that much smaller than Mars, and is second in moon size only to Jupiter’s Ganymede.
Just about every 30 years, a Great White Spot appears as a storm on Saturn’s atmosphere. The next appearance will be near the year 2020.
Saturn has more than 60 moons.
When Galileo originally discovered Saturn’s rings, he thought they were two moons on either side of the planet.
In 2010, a huge storm appeared on the surface of Saturn - it was so big it wrapped around the entire planet.
Saturn is the furthest planet from Earth that can be seen without the aid of a telescope or binoculars.
Magnification of about 30x is needed to see Saturn’s rings, which can be achieved with a large pair of binoculars or a small telescope.

In the Western Occult Tradition, each planet has traditionally possessed both a spirit and an intelligence: ethereal souls (sometimes called daemons) responsible for the baleful and beneficial influences (respectively) of the individual planet. After all, even humans have souls, and the planets of the Celestial realm are far more spiritual, existing closer to God and constructed of a much more rarefied matter. It was therefore logical to occultists that the planets also possessed their own souls.
Identity of the Intelligence:
The name of Saturn’s intelligence, responsible for the planet’s beneficial influences, is Agiel.
Construction of the Planetary Sigil:
This sigil, published by Henry Cornelius Agrippa in his Three Books of Occult Philosophy and frequently repeated in other publications, is constructed through numerology and magic squares. The name Agiel is spelled out in Hebrew, and then each Hebrew letter is associated with a number, as the Hebrew language inherently does. Each number is located on the magic square associated with Saturn, and a line is drawn to pass through each number.
The terminating circles at each end of the line appear to have been added for purely aesthetic reasons. Many hold that the sigil can also be freely rotated, either for aesthetic purposes or to further disguise the meaning and method of construction of the sigil.
Purpose of The Sigil:
This sigil would be used to attract the beneficial influences of Saturn, which according to Agrippa includes the ability to bring forth, to make a man safe, to make a man powerful, and to cause success of petitions with princes and powers. Marsilio Ficino and others also associated Saturn with intellectuals, whose minds are more lofty and divine than those of common folk. This is because Saturn is the highest planet in occult cosmology and therefore closest to God.
“Enhance” square using information drawn of materials given by The Golden Dawn
Paul Case: top lines were the initiating energies, the second line where the catalysts and the third line were the results
Nick Farrel: Zazel is heavily committed towards communication and Gemini, which is something we would not expect from a Spirit of Saturn. Indeed with the Fool we would think that the spirit is pure air. The only thing that seems to root him to anything would be having his feet in the waters of Luna and the High Priestess. Using the Golden Dawn Talismatic associations we could visualise a crowned being with a thin intelligent face, light hair (you could argue a case for a dual headed Janus). Winged with a swastika lamen, holding a sword standing on waves of water. (note that if you are using the square you do not look up the talismatic image for Lamed, you look up Gimel). There is a lot more information which can be gleened from this method, you could take it even further by adding the colour scheme from the vault.
Magickal Uses: for binding another. It smothers the intentions of others. Used in both hexing and protection. Bearbind vines can be used for binding spells (including handfasting) and for creating “bridges” and connections between realms.
I am told the Bearbind can be substituted in any recipe calling for High John the Conqueror, root for root.
The seeds have been used in earlier times to induce hallucinations. They are toxic. Do not try this. Stands for insinuation and humility It is also used in charm and potions to ease childbirth and woman’s pains.
The Morning Glory family belong to Saturn, patron of Witchcraft. It is a plant of dawn and dusk and thickets and hedges separating civilization from the wild wood. Hedge Bindweed’s magic lays in the places in between – thresholds and doorways – openings to the otherworld. It is a good ally for hedgecrossers and spirit workers.
Its persistent vines creating a connection or bridge to both worlds one is travelling between giving the safety of a return route. Its flowers are too delicate to use, but the tangled vines can be put to work in binding spells for people, objects, or spirits.
The roots are the main part used in folk magic and Hedge Bindweed was one of the Native American conjurer’s roots. It is used as a substitute for High John the Conqueror Root and has the same magical properties of good luck, success, confidence in self, strength, and commanding power. It can be used anywhere in Hoodoo formulas calling for High John.
