But let’s have some fun with kanji.
I’m actually really amused that this was a subject that came up in Japanese class a couple weeks ago. The verb “kiku” can either mean to “listen” or to “ask”, and there are different kanji for each. Obviously, Dark is using it for “listen” in this context…but there are two different kinds of “listen”, and the nuances are delivered via the kanji used to spell out the word.
The first is the usual, written 聞く. It’s like when you hear someone speaking–really normal stuff. But as you can see, that’s not what’s used here.
The second kind of listen is written as above, 聴く. It’s a bit more specific.
It’s for when you listen to music or poetry.
