This drawing was really fun. It’s fairly large (50 in. x 38 in.) and I think the size helped.
Charcoal’s an interesting medium - you can work much more subtractively than in other media, but you still can’t work it forever without the piece starting to look gummy. I think I did a fairly good job of saving the whites in this one.
In the sketch on the left, I mapped a null object to the midpoint of the mouth as it moved and then parented a comp (the moving collage) to it. The sketch on the right is a drawing I made overlaid onto video.
As you can see, I’m trying to bring the collages, drawing, and video a bit closer together. To me the sketch on the right is most successful and probably the direction I’ll pursue as I play around a little bit more.
