Papua New Guinea Defence Force in Bougainville 1991

The PNGDF was confirmed to have committed war crimes during the conflict including the unauthorized use of 4 Australian loaned UH-1 Huey helicopters in dumping bodies from extrajudicial killings in addition to utilizing them in a gunship capacity which was against the terms of the loan agreement.

The diplomatic and strategic stalemate between the BRA and the PNGDF and would lead to the hiring of private contractors from Sandline International to retake the copper mine at the center of the conflict which led to the Sandline Affair in the late 1990s.

Red Weldon Sandlin started her career as a graphic designer, but discovered a love for clay during a short ceramics course she had taken for fun. She creates elaborate sculptures and teapots inspired by children’s literature, and always incorporates the image of a book into each piece. Sandlin spends “endless time” in libraries researching imagery and patterns for her sculptures, from ancient Chinese textile design to books on exotic animal care.

😃 I need to brag for a moment. At Christmas we got our pull-up bar out and everyone was trying/doing pull-ups. I was trying. I could do a pull-up but only if I hopped or jumped to get me started. My nephew Zoey Sandlin challenged me to start practicing everyday and gave me some tips to strengthen the muscles that allow you to do a pull-up without hopping. I am happy to say that I took on the challenge, have been practicing almost everyday and I can now do a pull-up without hopping! I can’t do more than one at a time without touching the ground first but it’s a start! I’ll take it! That’s progress! 💪🙌 getting stronger!

Arrived home from a night out to find tickets to one of my favourite bands Bloc Party and an “I love you” note laid out for me. Thank you Mr Sandlin!! (at O2 Academy Leeds)
