I posted this as a comment on FB and I wanted to x-post here because fuck the discourse so very very much.
I’m getting so very frustrated with the “q slur” crowd and I feel like they very heavily overlap with “the only REAL oppression is toward gays and lesbians and everyone else is just doing it for attention” crowd. Gatekeepers can GTFO. I spent a lot of years in the closet because of the people who said bisexual women are just doing it for the attention of men and that if you hadn’t had sex with someone of the same gender AND someone of another, were you really even bi? Fuck ‘em. I’m older and have more insurance and I will fight tooth and nail so that no other scared queer teens feel excluded from their community. Aces belong, period. Anyone who disagrees can fight me.
And before someone jumps in: if you do not feel comfortable calling yourself queer, if you find it offensive, that’s 100% okay. That’s your prerogative. I won’t use that word for you, because you get to choose how you identify. But I will call myself queer until the day my fat queer self passes into the great beyond, and I ask that you respect that as I respect your choice of identity.
And look! Explanations and plot! Oh a merry christmas it is indeed. You mean it hasn’t been a year since I updated, cus it sure as hell feels like it lmaoo. Let me know what you guys think, and keep an eye out for like the twenty other things I working on <3
Natsu Dragneel is just an ordinary 21 year old trying to get by on his craft’s business, keep his landlady off his ass, and grow his friendship with his new weird neighbour Lucy. Without revealing that he’s a witch. Or his cat can fly and talk. So maybe Natsu isn’t that normal. Things take a serious left turn for him when people from his past start showing up, and he and Lucy as well as some new -and old- friends travel across Fiore trying to find some answers. But the question is, will they be happy with what they find?
Natsu groaned loudly, falling back onto his couch and leaning his head on the top of the backrest. He pinched the bridge of his nose, closing his eyes. “Well go on and tell her ‘bout your stupid coven.” He grumbled.
“It’s a family,” Erza snapped. Natsu kept his eyes closed as he tried to self heal his migraine away.
He heard the table groan as Erza sat on it. If she broke his fucking table he would make her pay for a new one. Even if she would insist on doing it anyway, something irritating about honor probably. Or maybe just because she was one of his closest friends.
Gods, Natsu just wanted to go the fuck back to sleep.
“Fairy Tail is my coven. It’s where witches and other magical beings gather to find work and a community, a place we call home and can be ourselves. There are many covens throughout Fiore, and the world.” Erza explained, voice full of authority but gentle.
“Okay. So how do people know which coven is for them?” Lucy asked.
“People who want the same things, or have similar values. Mermaid Heel offers a safe place for women, and emphasizes strength of the soul. Blue Pegasus specializes in charms and vanity. Fairy Tail prides itself on it’s respect and approach to integrate magic in small ways into the regular world. Natsu, for example, would fit in perfectly.” Natsu groaned loudly at Erza’s pointed statement, falling to the side so he laid his head on Lucy’s lap.
“For the last time I ain’t joining any coven!”
“Why don’t you like covens, Natsu?” Lucy asked softly, placing her mug on the table beside Erza and carding her fingers through his hair. “They sound nice.”
“‘Cus Erza’s leavin’ out the bit where they’re fuckin’ cults.”
“They are not-”
“Don’t pull that shit, Erza. Not after what just happened in Lucy’s apartment.” Natsu snapped, opening his eyes and holding her gaze. Erza looked away first, knuckles white where she clasped her hands in her lap. “They demand blind loyalty, brainwash you into whatever doctrine they want. They recruit young. I’ve seen it. Not all of them are bad, I know, but enough are.”
Natsu closed his eyes as he thought back to some of the members of Zeref’s coven. No, he had seen enough to know that covens were bad. And Igneel didn’t use covens, so Natsu knew his point was validated. Igneel was never wrong.
“We call those dark covens.” Erza said faintly.
“Yeah, and a dark coven’s what kidnapped Lucy when she was sixteen.” Natsu snapped back.
“Fairy Tail’s not like them Natsu. You know that.” Natsu sighed and closed his eyes at her stern voice, though there was a hint of understanding hidden faintly underneath. Erza could think whatever she wanted, deny the obvious truth to herself. Lucy had already said she wasn’t going anywhere without Natsu, so that was that. Even though Natsu had relented to Erza and Happy, there was no way Lucy would want anything to do with the type of organization that had kidnapped her. They weren’t going to Fairy Tail.
“I think we should go to Fairy Tail.”
Natsu’s eyes flew open as he jerked upwards. He couldn’t believe it. He had to have misheard. “What?” He said, cringing at the sharpness and volume of his question when Lucy flinched. “Luce?” Natsu asked again, voice softer as he tried to force a small smile, unsure as he looked her over.
“I’ve known Erza for years, Natsu. I trust her.” Lucy said just as softly. She took one of his hands between both her own, grip tightening when he instinctively jerked back. He couldn’t believe what he was hearing. They were supposed to be a team.
“Cana is also a member of Fairy Tail, and her father.” Erza added, looking away at Natsu’s warning glare.
“Natsu. They’re my family. They’ve been there for me at my worst moments. I trust them. Don’t you trust me?” Lucy asked. Her eyes held hope that was tinged desperate enough to break Natsu’s heart. “Besides, I’ll have you to protect me. My big, bad, scary dragon.” Natsu couldn’t help the wry grin he felt pull at the corner of his mouth. She sounded just as afraid as he felt, and Lucy was right. He could protect her, from most covens anyway.
“I’ll always protect ya, Weirdo.” Natsu said, knocking his forehead into hers gently, fingers tangling in her hair as he cupped the back of her head.
“I’ll protect you too, Lucy.” Happy said, crawling from his perch on the arm of the couch and slinking between Natsu and Lucy’s laps. His eyes were serious, bright and sincere.
“I know you will Happy.” She cooed, rubbing one ear fondly between her thumb and finger. Happy purred at the motion, rubbing his head more into her hand.
“We’ll go,” Natsu said, turning to face Erza. “But if anyone even tries and hands us a pamphlet I am draggin’ Lucy away and spittin’ fire at anyone that tries to follow.”

“Not knowing is the greatest pain any of us will ever encounter, but with someone by our sides maybe we can endure it for a little while longer.”
The entire camp shook.
Birds were frightened from their nests sent screeching into the sky, half-bloods were thrown to the dirt at the force- ruining basketball games, sparring matches and makeup sessions. The curses were loud and unrestrained.
Lucy moaned from where she landed, blindly groping around for her book until she felt its smooth cover under her fingertips. Thank gods for the dust jacket else it’d be completely ruined by now.
Her clothes, dirty. Hair, messy. Skin, unbruised.
She was fine by all means but, she thought standing with a frown gazing elsewhere, someone probably wasn’t.
The Hephaestus cabin door slammed open before ungraciously falling off its hinges. Foul smelling smoke billowed from the opening and leaked through cracks- new and old- while teenagers poured out from the building, eyes and noses streaming, all covered in a black gooey something and on their knees trying to hack up a lung.
One guy had the right idea and made a beeline for the lake.
The cabin shook ominously-once, twice, thrice. It groaned from whatever stress it was under then tiredly gave in when a section of the roof collapsed.
The poor cabin has been through a lot in the past days, it’d probably collapse fully if it isn’t seen to soon.
More smoke chugged out from the cabin, so much so that the summer sun had retire early and when it disappeared, two figures appeared in the doorway.
Big, burly and with a swath of spiky, black hair to boot, cabin leader Gajeel was as intimidating as they came with a scowl ever present on his chiseled face. There was even a joke rumour that he was one of Hephaestus’ more sophisticated automatons sent to watch over his children.
Now he was pissed, more so than usual.
His hair and clothes were smoldering and fresh burns trailed up his arms. Some of that mystery goo was splattered on his face, covering up his eyebrow piercings though ironically giving him new eyebrows.
Any other time he’d look hilarious but somehow the goop only managed to sharpen the rage in his red eyes as he glared at the person he held arms-length like an insolent puppy. A person who was not quite as burly, dangling above ground with a scowl and hair strikingly pink despite the goop that slithered through.
The charge was lead by me, bleached out brown hair curling at the roots, curvy at the hips from olive oil, bronzed skin from European sun so polite it had tapped me on the shoulder and asked to warm me up.
The old town of Dubrovnik was exactly what you hope Europe will be - a world away from smog, skyhighs, soy lattes. Medieval and romantic.
The overwhelmingness of cream stone dazzles you – cream stone pathways met by cream stone buildings, a cream stone city wall visible down a cream stone street ahead. The cream stones were clean, cleaner than what you expect a tourist hotspot like Dubrovnik should, in all logic, be.
I know a place, I’d told the troupe of boys bold enough to follow me on the adventure.
Maybe they wanted to sleep with me, so they’d just come along just to see what I’d do. A patchwork of guys, two tall, one half-something with caramel skin and a nervous energy.
Trawling through the identical alleyways, Croatian women fanning their faded laundry out windows high above us. Croatian men with slippery grins luring us to restaurants with the promise of cheap foreign beer and a free entree.
On we walked until we found the restaurant, tucked away and inconspicuous.
We ate two platters of seafood, filled with crunchy crab legs, salty crunchy whitebait, juicy tempura prawns and plenty of garlic-laden aioli that made us all lick our fingers and burp.
Once we were fed we continued, our destination looming far above us – the highest peak of Dubrovnik, a trek that is usually hiked with time to spare.
Outside the cream stone of the city walls, we asked an English-speaking guide with sunglasses obscuring his eyes to flag us a cab.
He laughed when we told him where we were heading – it was 5:15pm he scoffed. You’ll never make it up there in time for sunset. He puffed his chest.
The light began to fade.
Out of sheer determination quietly born from a sense of communal responsibility, you assured your patchwork of men that the trained professional was wrong.
You flagged a cab, negotiated a rate, clamoured inside. It smelt like boiled eggs and damp cloth. The cab trundled up the pathway to the peak, climbing altitude that made you all swallow to pop your ears. You laughed together, loud and hopeful.
The light faded.
You think idly of how difficult it must be for babies who don’t know to relieve mounting pressure.
You’re all jovial, joking and sipping cans of beer you picked up cheap, a time before you realised you had underestimated time.
The light is fading from the day.
Finally you reach as far as the road will go, and you all half-skip, laughing and joking, nervous energy across the rocks to the apex.
The light continues to fade.
You hastily stumble across a decaying brick wall – one drop would derail your whole trip, but you’re invincible so you don’t think about that.
The light fades.
You burst onto the grassy viewing area together, and the whole world opens up before you, stopping you short.
The Dalmatian coast, a dollop of islands, maybe five, littering the inky ocean to the left.
A cluster of mountains to your right. A sun, brilliantly orange, loitering on its way down to the horizon between the two. Like it had been waiting for you.
A sky, with colours only dreamt of. Husky dewy pinks intermingle with a brilliant gold sheen, while orange desert sand tones stretches behind and a purple wave of clouds on top, washing over the burnt colours like a frozen surf.
A quiet moment. Cans are sipped from. The murmuring stops.
Four people sit, one by one.
The mosaic of colours ahead continues to mingle and morph, but it’s so slow that no one notices.
A little like aging. A little like falling in love.
It happens slowly, then all at once.
The orange orb dips so low that it flirts with the mountainous ranges that meet the sea.
The Datamation coast is there still, but now it’s only illuminated by shadows.
The violet hues take over the sky. It is a clear triumph. The gold has relinquished. You all breathe out.

Siegbert was running incredibly late today. How could he be so careless? This was not befitting of his royal status at all.
The prince runs through camp, being sure to say ‘excuse me’ and ‘pardon me’ at those he ran by. He had been so busy helping tend to the weapons in the armory that he had completely forgotten about his singing lessons with Shigure. And after he practically begged his brother to teach him! Siegbert was incredibly ashamed.
Siegbert slows his pace as he approaches his brother’s tent, being sure to stop right outside before calling out to Shigure. “Brother? I’m sorry I’m late. Are you in there?”
