The more I see of Kashaf, the more I love her. She is perhaps the most relatable character on Zindagi Gulzar Hai. Of course, I love Sameena Pirzada as Rafia and not to mention I’m still comparing her to to the naseeyat spouting Nani in Shehr-e-Zaat but Sana Saaed as Kashaf is slowly stealing the show for me. From her insecurities to her pride, from her anger to her self-doubt, I cannot help but be taken by this character. Kisi se favour nahi laina, apna haal kisi ko nahi batana, apnay halaat khud mein hi samatay rakhna are all presented in such an endearing manner. No matter what happens to her she is very, very strong. Sometimes I wish Khirad in Humsafar would have been this strong when Ashar asked her to come back to him. Jahan Khirad ek waqt kamzoor aur mazloom thi waheen Kashaf apni kamzoori ko apni taqat banati hai. Most of all, what really makes her character come out beautifully are the diaries that she writes. In intermittent voiceovers she beautifully conveys her thoughts and herein you see her doubt, which is a humanizing factor. I firmly believe that a good voiceover is the cornerstone of Urdu dramas. For that brief moment you get to feel and see from the character’s perspective which makes the drama wholly more believable let alone interesting. Kashaf ka khayaloon se pata chalta hai ki woh kitni majboor hai lekin phir bhi apni majboori ko apni kamzoori nahin banay daiti. Irrespective of what the naysayers say I think this is an amazing drama. Do check it out.

16th October marked 15 years since the Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol, Rani Mukerji, and Salman Khan starer Kuch Kuch Hota Hai was released. KKHH was Karan Johar’s directorial debut. The movie went on to become an All Time Blockbuster of Indian cinema. SRK tweeted, “KKHH 15 years of love & friendship. Thanx Kajol, Rani, Karan & Tom Uncle for believing in ur son.” Karan Johar tweeted, “15 years since #KuchKuchHotaHai…the day it all began for me…I can’t thank the universe enough for blessing me with a place in the movies.” Filmfare editor-in-chief Jitesh Pillaai also tweeted some very interesting and not known before tidbits about the movie. Here they are: “One of my first memories of Kuch Kuch Hota Hai…was the test shots of Rani Mukerji looking like Neetu Singh. A star was born right then:)”
“Rani’s role was rejected by Twinkle Khanna, Tabu, Urmila and Raveena Tandon. Karan was a bit distraught until Rani came on the scene…
“Remember her first schedule with Koi Mil Gaya song…I think it was Mehboob studio…Farah, SRK, Kajol, Karan were all agape…a star was born.”
“I suspect the vibes between Rani and Kajol were not too hot after first schedule. But SRK always played peacemaker. And of course the amiable Karan.”
“The reunion scene. Anjali tum saree. I’m told Karan just left the camera on and SRK and Kajol just improvised. No one called cut:)”
“Saajanji Ghar Aayee. Salman would come late at night after shooting for Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam. Didn’t share much of an equation with Kajol. So there was SRK playing peacemaker. Karan calling the shots. Filmistan studios. A memorable shaadi ka song.”
“Title song. Santosh Sivan specially called to shoot that number. SRK changed some 3 costumes in a single shot. Don’t ask how. Still a mystery.”
“Dubbing. Kajol howls and howls after dubbing and seeing SRK’s end portions. SRK enters Empire studio just then. They hug. See all songs. Hit:)”
