17. Who do you feel most comfortable talking to about anything?
Honestly the only people I’m super comfortable talking with about anything are the people who know me irl and on here because they know me.

Ficlet prompt from Anonymous: Caskett's kid sees Kate's scars from her shooting and asks her about them.

Set 6-8 years in the future.

After spending a day at the beach by their Hampton’s house, Kate was putting their 5 year old daughter to bed and after kissing her forehead, telling her to have sweet dreams she headed for the door.

She turned back around. “Yeah?”

“Where did the circle on your heart come from?”

She took a deep breath, remembering that fateful day 10 years ago. “The circle on my heart?”

Kate walked back over to the bed and sat on the edge of it. “Um,” she furrowed her brow, trying to figure out how to explain it to her, “do you remember why we came out here this weekend?”

“Because you put a bad man in jail and daddy said we had to celebrate.” Sami smiled.

Kate smiled back. “That’s right but it wasn’t just any bad man.”

After putting their 2 year old son to bed, Castle was walking toward the stairs to go back down to the kitchen when he heard what they were talking about so he stopped just shy of the door to listen.

“He didn’t want me to tell anyone about the bad things he did so he gave someone money to shoot me.” Sami’s eyes got huge with fear. “But daddy told me he loved me for the very first time and because he said that, I fought so hard to stay alive…for him and for you and Alec even though we didn’t know about you two yet.”

“Did the bad man do that line on your side too?”

“No, the doctors did that so they could fix my heart.”

“But daddy told you he loved you so he fixed your heart.”

She tried to stifle a laugh, she was so serious and it was really cute. “Yes, he did but all he could do was make me want to live, the doctors had to…” she had to think of the appropiate way to word it for a 5 year old, “they had to put it back together just enough so daddy could finish.”

“Is you’re heart all better now?”

“Yes, it is because of you and Alec and daddy. Now, we had a really big day so how about you go to sleep and when you wake up you can help me make pancakes for breakfast.”

Sami yawned. “Okay.”

“Goodnight, I love you.” She kissed her forehead.

“Love you too.”

She walked out of her room and saw Castle standing there with the giddiest grin. Kate closed the door then rolled her eyes at him and started toward the stairs. But Castle pulled her back by her arm and crowded her against the wall before planting a hard deep kiss on her lips. She brought her hands up to run through his hair as his made their way around her waist. Seconds later, he pulled back. “We finished putting your heart together, huh?”

“You started putting it together long before I was shot.”
