same as the other one basically

(1) I'm the one who said I had an epiphany lol. It's long so bear with me, it came to me this morning so I have to get it off my chest. It's basically Camren's storyline (probably not in order), but I've skipped some stuff because not everything came to me at once. So a lot of us know that Camila & Lauren went to the same 1D concert but didn't know each other. To me, that's no.1 of Fate bringing them together. No.2 was when they crossed paths at an airport (didn't know each other).

(2) No.3 was the X-Factor where they finally saw each other & spoke. That’s no coincidence. Carrying on, Camila initiated the first move (like the anon said) which was the iconic “I like your shirt”, I don’t know about you but I think Camila liked Lauren as soon as she saw her. Not like a love at first site kinda thing, but a “I know you’re gonna be important to me”, hence the line “something in us knew & something in us will always know”.  3) It’s also no coincidence that they ended up in the same group, this means something & I can’t put my finger on it yet. Also during X-Factor interviews where the iconic “mine’s Lauren” happened, I think this was the start of them developing feelings (maybe a little earlier). Anyway, their feelings for each other grew & Camila felt it was right but Lauren thought it was wrong. She didn’t come to terms with her sexuality for years (now I’m proud of her). (4) She thought it wasn’t right to have feelings for her bandmate/bestfriend. I can’t imagine how she felt at first, thinking if she went through with it and questioning what if it ended badly, it would cause a rift in the group & eventually the group splitting or one of them leaving. But she soon started to accept her feelings for Camila (even though she would try to be subtle about it). Obviously, the girls knew of their relationship, then management did, (this is where shit goes down).

Look guys… I recieved some asks im not gonna be answering, they aren’t rude or anything, but I’m pretty sure if i’m gonna answer them here, some kind of discourse is gonna follow :D And i dont want that… so to the asks i got, just a little summarization..
There are two apple trees, standing and growing up next to each other for decades.. one of them has apples both boys and girls from neighborhood are coming to pick and eat them. On the other hand the second tree has apples just girls have been picking and eating, cos the tree wont share its apples with boys. And you are basically asking me which tree i like more. I dont have a favourite tree… or apples from them for that matter. They all look and taste the same (no pun intended :D) and i dont care who was picking their apples before me… i would love and cherish the first tree totally the same like i would the second one, cos its the tree that matters, not the apples or who picks them..
So im sorry if some of you are having a hard time to understand that, but its the way it is and I’ve never been so happy in my life as I am rn. So please stop dwelling on this and just be happy for me :) Thank you :)

And now i have a munchies for apples, thank you very much guys :D

Fun fact:

Mei/hem and Rey/lo are bad, and in fact they’re bad for basically the same reasons, but at least Trashrodent isn’t a fucking nazi

Some linearted sketches of Virgil in the witch au!

Some basic info of him in this alternate universe is
- like to communicate with ghosts and other creatures of that nature.
- very secluded so doesn’t go into town much.
- lives in the same town as Roman ( and time period so think around the time of the Salem witch trials). But didn’t meet Roman until after Logan brought them all together, ( which I’ll explain once I do the post for Logan ) and same goes for Patton but Pattons in a different era.
- knows about all the different curses and they are one of his favorite forms of magic. But he doesn’t perform them on any humans just plants.
- interested a lot in the after life.

These are just some of the ideas I thought of while designing him but I’ll try and think up of more later on. If any one reading this has some ideas they’d like to include in this feel free to tell me!

Ok I’ll go work on an edit now bye!

Somewhere Between Life and Death (Chapter 4)

Summary: Dia de los Muertos isn’t the only day the dead can visit the living. Miguel is reunited with Hector, Imelda and his other relatives from the other side but in one of the worst ways possible and he finds himself caught in a struggle between life and death.

Note: Reposted from ao3 and fanfic, same name, same author

I just needed to post some coco content I made on my own on Tumblr because  I will definitely not be able to contribute in the arts side.

Post canon, sickfic, expect hurt comfort, loads of angst, kidnappings. Miguel has a near death experience basically.

Writing Deaf Characters | Speech is Speech

Before I get going, I’m 75% deaf, as some of you know, semi-reliant on hearing aids and lip reading. My first languages were Makaton sign and then BSL. I now use spoken English. This is part one of two. People are People covers characterization and toxic tropes.

There are a lot of issues I find with how deaf people are represented in books, when represented at all. I would love to see more deaf and hard of hearing characters in the books I read- without having to read books specifically about deaf/HoH people- but when I find them, they’re grossly undercharacterized or stereotyped. Authors write them in a way that sets signing language characters apart from speaking characters as if they are inferior, and this makes my blood boil.

Some technicalties

I’ll keep this brief.

  • You may have heard that “deaf” is a slur and you should use “hearing impaired”. Don’t. I’ve never met a deaf or hard of hearing person who believed that. Use deaf for people who are deaf, and Hard of Hearing (HoH) for people who lack hearing. These can be interchangeable depending on the person. This is why sensitivity readers are a useful part of the beta process.
  • Sign language is incredibly varied. It developes in the same way as spoken language. Fun fact: in BSL there are at least half a dozen ways to say bullshit, my favourite of which is laying your arms across one another with one hand making a bull’s head sign and the other hand going flat, like a cowpat. It’s beautifully crude, and the face makes the exclamation mark. Wonderful.
  • There are different sign languages. Knowing more than one would make a character multi or bi-lingual, even if they are non-speaking.
  • Makaton is basic sign language used by children, and it mirrors the very simple language used by toddlers.
  • Yes, we swear and talk shit about people around us in sign language sometimes, and no, it isn’t disrespectful to have signing characters do this. Just remember that we also say nice things, and random things, and talk about fandoms and TV shows and what we’re having for dinner, too.
  • Each signed language is different from another. ASL and BSL? Nothing alike. Just google the two different signs for horse.

Remember that sign language is a language, equal to the spoken word

Therefore, treat it as such. Use quotation speech marks and dialogue tags. You only need to explicitly state that this character uses signed language once, and then let your modifiers and description do the rest.  It isn’t a form of “sub-speech" or “making hand actions”- sign language is a language all on its own: it has its own grammar rules, syntactical structures, punctuation, patterns, idioms and colloquialisms. For example, “what is your name?” becomes “Your name what?” with the facial expression forming punctuation in the same way that spoken English uses alterations of prosodic tone (inflections). There is even pidgin sign; a language phenomenon usually associated with spoken language.

In the same way that you would describe a spoken-English character’s tone of voice, you would describe a signed-English speaker’s facial expressions and the way that they sign- keeping in mind that these things are our language’s equivalent of verbal inflection.

So please, none of that use of “special speech marks” or italicised speech for sign. If your viewpoint character doesn’t understand signed speech, then you take the same approach that would be used for any other language they don’t understand, like French or Thai. E.g “He said something in rapid sign language, face wrinkling in obvious disgust.” is a good way of conveying this. The proof that you’ve done this well is in whether or not you can switch “sign language” for French or something else, and it would read the same.

Don’t be afraid to describe how things are said, either. Sign language is such a beautiful and expressive way of talking, and to see a writer do it justice would be truly fabulous. Putting this into practise:

“Oh, I love maths!” She said, fingers sharp and wide with sarcasm. She raised her eyebrows.

“I’m sorry.” He replied and made his face small, but could not keep the grin forming. She was starting to laugh, too.

For the sake of readibility, I’m putting the rest of the information in part two.

This is part of my weekly advice theme. Each week I look at what you’ve asked me to help with, and write a post or series of posts for it. Next week: settings and character development (including heroes, anti-heroes, villains, and every other kind of character).

You could almost say I’ve been studying Laurens behaviour from 2012-16 in correlation with her sexuality. I’m finding it extremely difficult to see anything ‘questionable’ about her sexuality, other than her interactions with Camila. When I watch these interviews with the girls, Lauren touching or looking at the girls is clearly platonic. There’s nothing that even hints at anything within her sexuality through her behaviour with the girls. But with Camila, there’s something different. Those longing stares weren’t platonic, how they touched and interacted with each other, wasn’t platonic. The only part of Laurens behaviour that showed us she was also attracted to girls, could be seen through moments with Camila. There’s no doubt in my mind that C played a huge part in Laurens self-acceptance. In an interview a couple months back, Lauren spoke about her sexuality at #beautyconNYC: (3:10-)

Lauren saying “what are you looking at when you see that” is blatantly obvious to me. Camila. The only factor fans could use at the time when/if doubting Lauren’s sexuality was Camila. The interactions and behaviours that the two shared, fuelled the speculation and presumptions about not only Lauren’s sexuality, but Camila’s also. She mentioned when she was younger, she “wasn’t ready to accept it about herself”. Presuming she was questioning her sexuality in her mid/late teens, the only person around her whom she publicly showed attraction to via these little secret looks and touches was Camila. She didn’t show anything intense towards the other 5H girls as she did with Camila. You could tell her interactions with Dinah, Ally and Normani were purely platonic and even from early X-Factor interviews, Lauren was always extremely protective and admiring of Camila. She spoke about “not being ready” to come out so at the time she must have already had existing doubts about her sexuality. I wonder which girl caused her questioning? Fans labelled her before she even had a chance to accept and fully understand it herself. So this coincides perfectly with Camila’s Facebook live, where she’s asked for her advise on an LGBT relationship where the other half isn’t ready “to come out”. (12:40-13:50)

Watch Lauren’s interview first then watch Camila’s. Compare their descriptions and understandings of ‘coming out’ and note that they are EXACTLY the same. C fills in the gaps L missed out in her interview and vice versa. It all falls in place like a little puzzle. Their words are spoken parallel to each others. Aren’t they basically both explaining how they personally reacted during that specific time? You can tell both are speaking from experience. C’s “I’ve learned that” was a massive slip up on her behalf.  I mean the only way you learn something is if you study it, or it happens to you. Camila must be super invested in the LGBT+ community to be able to articulate a response as intricate as the one she gave in this particular interview. There’s no doubt that each individual played some sort of role in the acceptance of each other’s sexualities, whatever those may be.

Remember though: “All you can do is just love them”.

I wonder who did the loving in this scenario? Was it Camila? Was she loving Lauren as they both finally understood and accepted their feelings towards one and other? Is C’s Hurting the struggle in which she/Lauren were unable to view their sexualities in a positive light after the pressure of shipping and criticism from labels and PR teams? Is the Healing her coming to terms with herself and starting to gradually share to fans a huge part of her that is ‘forbidden’? Is the Loving the final ‘fuck it’, C accepting and being proud of being who she is? I wonder how many more “she” pronouns will pop up in the album.

Everything is a process, sit tight.

Musicals As Theatre Kids

Wicked: the one who can sing but can’t act for the life of them. they’re obsessed with classic musicals like The King and I and The Sound of Music and would sell their soul to play Maria. gets those small parts with scattered solos and is the light of everyone’s life.

Hamilton: the one who’s really eccentric, always yelling and singing at the top of their lungs, and is brave enough to argue with the director. everyone hates them and loves them 50/50 and they somehow get a big part in every show.

Heathers: the one who acts like an emo/alternative kid outside of rehearsal but inside becomes a dedicated broadway-worthy star, and is really, really good. perfect voice, perfect acting. listens to p!atd on iTunes and cast recordings on Spotify. gets all the leads.

Dear Evan Hansen: the one who is the most amazing actor and will probably win a tony someday, but is just a meh singer. never talks to anyone but their best friend, who is definitely Heathers. gets a supporting role usually.

Falsettos: gay, gay, gay, gay, gay. whether a girl or a boy, really gay and really dedicated. overdoes it sometimes but is a sweet little marshmallow backstage. best friends with Wicked. always gets the villain, somehow.

Legally Blonde: never listens to the director and acts out all the time, doesn’t really take shows seriously but loves them all the same. the director hates them even though they can kind of act. they can’t sing, though. seriously can’t sing. they have a huge ego and know it. get small parts that they make the best of.

In The Heights: lives far away and never really talks to anyone. very smol. super quiet and is always being yelled at by the director for it, poor thing. always works on homework at break and lip–synchs to everybody else singing showtunes. Wicked and Falsettos take pity on them and take them in. no one really knows how they act but they can sing really well and get smallish parts.

Be More Chill: very laid–back and friendly once you get to know them, though they appear pretty brooding. tells everyone they’re straight whilst being a questioning bisexual crushing on Falsettos. same level of acting and singing, which is basically getting there but needs some work. gets supporting roles and occasionally leads.

The Book of Mormon: has no chill at all. famously yelled “FUCK YOU YOU PIECE OF SHIT” at the director once. can sort of act but can’t connect with other actors to create realistic scenes. they’re belting is some good shit. surprisingly nice to the few friends they have. the director hates them and admires them at the same time and they usually get a lead or supporting role.

Waitress: so nice. so. nice. kind of hates themself though, which is depressing because they’re perfect in every single way and deserve the world honestly. Falsettos and Dear Evan Hansen both have a crush on them. really talented and outgoing and a great dancer. honestly their only flaw is their self–doubt, and they would probably perform even better with more confidence. usually gets a lead.

Newsies: the one who can dance. like, such a good dancer. very laid-back and flirts with everyone. they can’t act at all and they can kinda sing, but again, dancing. has this weird accent that no one can identify but everyone loves. they usually get small or ensemble parts.

Hairspray: super bubbly and friendly! best friends with Be More Chill and Legally Blonde. great singer and great actor, but can’t dance at all. director hates them and so does Heathers. has an amazing stage presence and can always connect with the audience. gets small-ish parts (again, hated by director) but deserves bigger.

EDIT: for those of you wondering I’m definitely Dear Evan Hansen. aside from the “winning a tony” part. I wish.

EDIT 2: for the record each of these are based off of a certain person in my theatre troupe lmao so now at rehearsal these personas are all I see

Venus: The Goddess of Love

Venus rules all things beautiful in love, lust, and desire, so it only makes sense that this placement represents how you attract your lovers. This sign is where you express love in all types of relationships, such as family, friends, crushes, and significant others. When looking at compatibility between you and your love interest, combinations of both your sun and venus sign are essential to getting a better understanding of each other. Often times your venus and sun signs may be the same which in turn cause an ever bigger influence on your acts of love, but this may not happen every time. Venus rules Libra and Taurus which means both signs are associated with beauty, sensuality, and materialism. If you have Venus in Libra or Venus in Taurus these placements are comfortable here since the planets are in place with their ruler.

Venus in Aries: The admirable child-like spirit in Aries is no different in this placement. You attract your lovers with your ability to literally not give a fuck. You go after you want, no questions asked. You don’t like to waste time so anyone who plays games is getting cut off. Your actions are impulsive, almost selfish, actually very selfish, but this won’t be a problem to the person who really understands you. However, you will be attracted to many people since you get bored easily and can fall in and out of love quickly. Overall, you exude confidence, are not afraid to stand out, and you want things to be simple & direct.

Venus in Taurus: Loyalty and constant devotion are your greatest attributes with friends and family. In love you seek security and comfortability often ruling out those who are fake and filled with drama. You enjoy fine dining and fine living. You are what they call husband or wifey material because of your desire to settle down and build a home with someone, kind of like Cancer. Change does not come easy to you so you may find yourself stubborn and set in your ways when it comes to love. The strong appetite for sensual gratification in the bull reaches from the dining table to the bedroom, and they will make sure you are taken care of in both matters.

Venus In Gemini: It’s a no brainer that the way to your heart is through your mind. This Gemini is fun, flirty, and just wants to enjoy life in a number of ways. For this reason, you can only be tied down by someone who is capable of keeping you interested for, essentially, the rest of your life. It’s important for you to truly get to know a person before getting into a relationship. Otherwise, if you are not stimulated you will move on quickly. There is never a dull moment with you and you just want to be surrounded by other individuals who share this same interest. In matters of love, the dual personality shows a good side and a dark side, but this combination creates a unique, and inspiring individual.

Venus in Cancer: You are attracted to those who need you. You aim to nurture and provide an emotional blanket for your loved ones. Your intuition runs high and you use this to better take care of your partner. Although this can make them vulnerable because you might meddle into their lives to make sure you are needed. Depending on your sun or moon sign, you can be quite emotional and hurt easily but hide it well. Like any Cancer, once you get into your shell it’s hard to get you out of it. You are loyal, a great listener, and create families out of your friends. Overall, you have a big heart and this makes you very attractive.

Venus in Leo: In order for your heart’s desire to be satisfied you need to be loved at all times. Sex isn’t even all that important to you if you’re not being made the center of attention. Feelings of insecurity rise for the Leo when you are not told that you are different or special. You don’t want to be like everyone else, you want to stand out. You are loyal, generous, and love hard. You have a lust for life and surround yourself with colorful people. Your sunny personality makes you fun to be around. You live a lavish life and show off your relationships and hope to be shown off the same way. It’s important for your loved ones to express their love to you in grand gestures because you expect the royal treatment.

Venus in Virgo: Like Cancer, you want your loved ones to need you and appreciate you, this makes you happiest. You work quietly into the heart of others, taking your time getting to know people by observing them. Punctuality is important to you and you take this into matters of love as well often focusing on practical aspects of a relationship rather than being romantic. You don’t ask for much in a relationship but your partner might find it hard to satisfy what you want because you focus on small details that one can easily ignore. The pickiest of all signs, the person who wants the key to your heart has to be perfect or at least close to it. Is that too much to ask? Maybe, but you’re not willing to settle for anything less.

Venus in Libra: The world you envision is one of peace and serenityYou treat others the way you’d want to be treated. When all is well, both you and your partner are putting in the same effort into the relationship. Because of how dependent you are, you will most likely always be in a relationship. You’re all about fairness. You don’t like to stir the pot so you might conform to other people’s needs just to be likable, especially to stronger personalities that make you feel threatened. However, your personable appearance and amazing social skills cause you to be attractive to others no matter what you look like. A hopeless romantic you enjoy all the beauties of romance and want your love story to be like a fairytale.

Venus in Scorpio: Intense. Intense. Intense. The dark and mysterious qualities of Scorpio are strong in this placement since their actions are affecting their love interests. In relationships, you want all or nothing. You want someone to surrender to you and give you control. In return, you give your full attention and extreme loyalty. Consequently, you are jealous and possessive, although this can be flattering to some people. Secretive, you don’t give much away about yourself, but want to know every detail of your significant other. You can read your friends as plain as day because of how well you can pick up vibes of other people. Your strongest asset is that you are not afraid of change, in fact, you thrive on the transformation of change.

Venus in Sagittarius: Variety is the spice of life for you. You are always roaming, moving from one place to another, never really committing to anyone. Wherever you go you’re having a good time and searching for new experiences and knowledge. You’re fun to be around because of your free spirit, open-mindedness, and ability to entertain. You take pride in what you know and can be quite judgmental, but you’re very honest. You’re attracted to people of different cultures because you want to learn their different backgrounds and experiences. In love you just want someone who is going to partake in all your adventures and not ask too much of you since you value your freedom and independence.

Venus in Capricorn: Reserved and humble, you attract others by keeping to yourself. Those who are willing to get to know you will do so. Very goal oriented and smart, you hope that your friends are as hardworking as you. In relationships you want what is cautious and safe since you are willing to build a home and family with this person. Social class is important to you so you care about how much money you make and might marry into wealth if possible. Although you are guarded in public, you are able to get in tune with your emotions in private. You’re affectionate and can express your love in various ways. Creating partnerships comes natural to you and people will know you to be loyal and responsible.

Venus in Aquarius: No restrictions, no emotions, no fucks given. You basically do what you want and won’t settle for anything less. In love, however, you are committed and willing to compromise to your lover’s needs, only if they are worth it. But until then, if you are single, you are sufficient all on your own. You enjoy being eccentric and attract your crushes by making yourself stand out. Ahead of your time, you feel as though you have visionary thoughts. You are able to inspire others, although, at first they don’t understand you, but once they do, you’ve already moved on to the next thing. Your loved ones appreciate your oddities and quirks since this is what makes you special to them. Direct and honest you try to be as real as possible.

Venus in Pisces: The type of love you seek is one that is soft hearted, empathetic, and a bit sensitive. You are intuitive and able to pick up the mood of others so you’re very understanding of people’s emotions. You are attracted to those who need saving or you yourself want to be saved. Loud and abrasive people make you uncomfortable because you suffer too many moods to be dealing with insensitive people. Because of how empathetic you may be, friends or lovers may take advantage of you since you can be afraid to say no. Feelings of insecurity rise when you are not being loved the way you wish to be. Since you are able to love people so deeply you want the same in return. Three words that sum you up: compassionate, mystical, and wistful.

Övüsi: The Elvish Language from Bright

The Elves in Bright run the world. They’re literally in charge of everything, and they look down on everyone else. They’ve always been around (which is another way of saying I’ve now forgotten where geographically they were supposed to have originated), and though their language has changed, the Elves have prevented borrowings from other languages from “tainting” the “purity” of theirs.

The language itself has changed over the centuries, but older words have been preserved in their original forms for use in magic. Both modern Elvish and a couple of words of older Elvish appear in the film. The name of the language is Övüsi Kieru, which literally means “Elvish Tongue”, and despite having 9 vowel qualities, it does not have vowel harmony. The language is SOV and strongly head-final with thirteen cases and a verb system which is weird (I honestly still don’t get it).

Remember previously when I said I designed the Castithan language from Defiance to be spoken quickly—and how I failed? This time I tried to do it right—and I think I succeeded. You can really pick up some speed speaking this language, and the tongue twisters are minimal.

The orthography is a bit of a story. I created it to be excessively indulgent, and I think I succeed in that. When I showed the art department, though, they said it wasn’t excessively indulgent enough. They wanted more stuff about. So I had to take what, to my mind, was already a ridiculously gaudy writing system and make it gaudier. The result is, in my opinion, just silly in places. I suppose it’s in keeping with the Elves’ style of dress, but some of its excesses really tax credulity. You’ll see.

Below is the phonology and orthography of Övüsi:

Couple things here. First, you’ll notice long vowels for everything but mid vowels. This is my “Don’t make actors pronounce ee as anything other than [i]” sound change. Old long mid vowels broke, becoming a high vowel followed by a mid vowel, as in Finnish (so ie, üö, ïë, and uo).

You’ll also notice some unrounded back vowels. I was nervous about trying to do unrounded back vowels, but I figured since I was going to have constant access to the actors, I’d give it a shot. Turns out I had nothing to worry about. Those unrounded vowels are super easy for English speakers to pronounce. Basically I just said, “These are pronounced like this”, and then they said, “Oh”, and did them right every time. The front rounded vowels still caused problems, but the back unrounded vowels did not. I used diereses to indicate the unrounded back vowels for parallelism. It seems to have worked.

As a final note, the long opposite-rounding vowels have no separate form. This is because though the long vowels are phonemic (in that there are places where you must pronounce, e.g., üü as opposed to ü), there’s actually no way to write them in the orthography. Everything else that has a distinguishable form (as you’ll see) is either a form that was a licit long vowel at one time, or was (or currently is) a licit diphthong. That left nothing for the long opposite rounding vowels.

Here are the aforementioned diphthongs:

If you look at the forms for ie and uo, they should look rather familiar. That’s because these used to be the forms for *ee and *oo, and they’re simply read differently now. You’ll also notice that the forms for üö and ïë are identical to the forms for ö and ë, respectively. That’s because there’s no way to indicate the long form for these vowels, and those are the readings of the long forms of those vowels.

As you look at these, by the way, most of the extra lines and weird swooshes you see were added by request.

The consonantal base forms are as follows:

You can ignore the blue box; that was my bad there (screen cap). So like…stuff happened here. Basically, the short forms of stops became fricatives, but then there already was a *th, so all those words just got respelled. So the form with the three asterisks is usually pronounced [s] before [i], and elsewhere it’s [θ], but it’s not used word-initially, unless it’s before [i]. The form with four asterisks is an old consonant that’s no longer pronounced (it’s just regular [h] now), and so there are two [h]’s in this thing.

I added those ridiculous half moons because most stuff was wanted. Also, I thought r was fine on its own, but they wanted the bottom part to extend, so I extended it, along with l. Same extension happened with the word-initial flourish on f and v and like forms. I’m just looking at this now, and I’m like…seems unnecessary…

Anyway, the system is an abugida, which means there’s an inherent vowel, and modifications are added for other vowels. The inherent vowel in this system is short e. This is a fully executed consonant that’s hopefully large enough that you can see it:

You can also see the “capital” versions that occur for some consonant/vowel combinations above. Basically, when one of these occurs as the first character of a word, there’s an extra flourish. Where there are two glyphs above, the first has the flourish, and so is an initial form, and the other would appear elsewhere in the word. I had a lot of fun coming up with these, but now looking at the extra half moons, the extra loops, the extra double lines on … It’s just all too extra for me. But I know what it originally looked like, so I always have something to compare it to in my mind.

Now for the sake of completeness, though it’s going to make this really long, here is the fully executed version of every glyph split into two tables. Here’s table one:

And here’s table two:

Huh. Weird error in the rei cell… Included one two many r’s it appears… The character’s still there, though. (By the way, the keystrokes are written on the left there. This is for the font. What’s “z” there is the weird old *t sound that’s become [θ] and [s].)

There’s also a geminate marker that, when you see it, you’ll be able to recognize as a reference to Castithan. I’ll show it to you in an example later.

Nouns in Övüsi have a bunch of different declensions. It’s all based on whether the original form ended in a vowel of some kind or a consonant. At this stage of the language, no word can end in a consonant, and the only codas are reserved for the first member of a geminate, so lots of different things happened to these consonant-final forms. There’s no room to show every declension, but I can at least give you one, and give you a sense of the cases themselves. Here they are (singular/plural):

  • NOMINATIVE:  thuoke/thuoki “bird(s)”
  • ACCUSATIVE: thuokie/thuokii “bird(s) (direct object)”
  • GENITIVE: thuoka/thuokai “bird’s/birds’”
  • INSTRUMENTAL: thuoku/thuokï “with the bird(s)”
  • LOCATIVE: thuokö/thuokü “near the bird(s)”
  • ABLATIVE: thuokau/thuokavi “away from the bird(s)”
  • ALLATIVE: thuokaalou/thuokaalli “towards the bird(s)”
  • INESSIVE: thuokannö/thuokannü “inside the bird(s)”
  • ILLATIVE: thuokou/thuokoli “into the bird(s)”
  • ELATIVE: thuokannau/thuokannavi “out of the bird(s)”
  • PERLATIVE: thuokausu/thuokausï “by way of the bird(s)”
  • AVERSIVE: thuokasshu/thuokasshï “avoiding the bird(s)”
  • VOCATIVE: thuokuo/thuokorii “O, bird(s)!”

If you look at these cases, you can probably recognize some of my favorite sound changes, and guess how some of them evolved (and in what order). The nice thing about having a nice big case system like that is it’s just there for you, like your best friend. You don’t really need to fuss about how to say stuff. Your best friend just says, “Shh, shh… Let me show you my cases.” And you take one and you’re good. Like hot cocoa in winter.

Now the verbs…

On a macro level, verbs agree with their subjects in person and number in the first person and sometimes the imperative, and just in person otherwise. Each verb has three stems: the imperfect, the perfect, and the future. Then, depending on whether the verb is dynamic or stative, there are three modes: the indicative, the passive, and the potential (statives lack the passive mode). A copula is used for emphasis, negation, and equation.

It’s best to see an example, and with verbs, the easiest to tease apart are the vowel-final ones. Here’s a table to consider:

This is the verb mikaa, which means “to say” (most of the time the infinitive ends in -ie; it’s just non-e V-final stems that are different). As you can see, the stem part here is probably -i for imperfect; -has for perfect; and, of all things, bare for future. Then there are some more or less predictable suffixes added in the three modes. To those can be added agreement affixes, but they can also be left off. Depending on whether or not they’re added the end of the form changes. The first items in each pair are how the form ends if nothing is added. I’ll show you each in a sec here. First, here’s the agreement paradigm:

Now that you’ve got that, here are two examples (and I’ll show you the orthographic forms, too):

That’s Kenie mikaithorï super large, apparently. Kenie is the third person pronoun in the accusative. Mikaithorï has a third person subject, and is in the potential indicative. Now if you use the emphatic copula instead…

That’s Kenie mikaithou shï! which is “I must say it!” Now, of course there’s nothing in here anywhere that corresponds to “must”: It’s simply the interpretation. These examples show how you use the form with the agreement suffix and without.

(Also, see the geminate thingy in there? The spelling in this one is weird.)

That’s a basic intro to this thing. It was actually a pain in the butt to use, but fun to speak. All in all pretty good. Though weird.

This is a piece the art department put together for Édgar Ramírez’s Kandomere to wear. I thought it looked pretty boss:

Looks pretty cool, until you realize it says the following…

And he’s one of the good Elves! lol This was one of my favorite pieces. That art department was amazing.

So that was what I was up to this time last year. Again, if you get a chance to see the movie, I hope you enjoy it! Süvorii!

as much as i hear people giving different versions of d&d a hard time for “making everyone a mage” or other similar “but if everyone has it then no-one is special!” complaints, im surprised i never hear the same of darkvision

like holy shit. only 3 out of the 9 core races DON’T have darkvision.

so torches are a human/halfling/dragonborn invention that basically no one else bothered to mess with. and like, why isn’t that addressed more? why isn’t that worked into more game worlds? because that would definitely change shit up if 2/3rds of the civilizations most people know of don’t bother with illuminating dark places because they don’t need to.

especially with so many settings having so much magic in them. like you…don’t really need light to even read. what’s to stop such magical people from having touch-activated self-illuminating text? and why would people who’ve never needed light to see in the dark bother with writing systems that you need light to see anyway? you honestly expect me to believe that no one figured out some fantasy equivalent of braille? that no one knew how to write until humans or halflings or dragonborn figured it out and passed it on to these races that live so effing much longer than them?

i call bullshit

Snoke gave us the answer to who Rey REALLY IS and why they share intertwined destinies with Kylo Ren.

I keep reading here and there and many fans are disappointed because Rey is a “nobody”. But, what they are missing is that Rey is much more than a nobody, and fits perfectly in the storyline of the Star Wars saga. The answer comes from Snoke, who says something along these lines :

“Darkness rises and light to meet it. I had warned by apprentice that the more the grew in darkness, the more the Light would compensate it”.

So what Snoke is really saying is that Kylo, who is 10 years older than Rey more or less, was growing in darkness under Snoke’s influence (we know he manipulated him from birth) and what happens is that the Force needed to restore balance. And it grew and grew. Snoke thought it was Luke. But no. It was the Force itself that created his counterpart : Rey. She’s a nobody. She has no legacy. But her destiny lies with Kylo’s fate : she is the one who will balance his darkness, because the Force needs to compensate it. So, they really are the “two sides of the same protagonist”, the protagonist being The Force.

“The force awakens” in both of them in episode 7, leading to the interrogation scene, where they tap into each other’s minds, opening the strange Force Bond connection. Snoke might have encouraged that Bond, but he didn’t know about Rey when Kylo interrogates her and they basically go into each others minds. Snoke is manipulating them into thinking that, but it started before, and most of all, at the end of TLJ we see the Bond is still there.

So where are their intertwined destinies?

For me, you can resume it this way : neither can die while the other survives.      They both need each other because they are each others’ complement. The ying and the yang, Light and Darkness.

And the only way that they will finally understand each other is accepting the other within themselves. Rey wants Ben to turn to the light. Kylo wants Rey to join him - but he never says the darkside - even if it is implied. The eternal push-and-pull. The only way for these two to meet is to accept and welcome the other side within themselves, because both have Light and Darkness, ending in a sort of Grey middle ground, where the Force is balanced between the two.

So the balance is not to eradicate the dark side, like the Jedi thought. It is to balance both sides within their soul.

It also means that they will chase after another, until the moment they understand what the heck is happening. And understand that neither of them can die, because this would result in a unbalancing of the Force. Maybe Rey will find all these answers when she reads the old Jedi books.

And honestly, why are they so sexually attracted to each other in TLJ? Because opposites attract one another. They complement each other and need each other on a very basic physical level. So, I guess we will see more of Rey being flustered by Kylo’s all to perfect percs.

But like the force of the ever-glowing sun, everything that rises must also set. A year of inactivity later and he’s now the school’s resident bad boy. You’re a firm believer of allowing the past be the past, and yet you can’t help but wonder where the risen sun has gone into hiding—because perhaps its shadows have out-shined its own radiance.

Brindleton Rowhouses

This lot is a complete re-do of my Havisham Square lot in a more Brindleton Bay/New England style. As with the Havisham rowhouses, these are only partially furnished (plumbing, appliances, lighting, and cabinetry), so feel free to decorate and edit as you wish! Each one has a slightly different flavor, but the same basic floorplan, except for the middle one which is a bit smaller and therefore only has one bedroom and bathroom. The others have two bedrooms/two baths. The pics in this post are of the rowhouse on the far right.

Rowhouse caveat: Sims will sometimes use all three kitchens to make ONE meal, moving from counter to counter. I don’t know why they do this when there are perfectly good and accessible counters nearby. :-p If you don’t want this to happen, I would recommend only furnishing one rowhouse and deleting all objects from the others, or using the door-locking feature of the game in order to keep Sims from wandering willy-nilly into each other’s spaces.

To new K-pop fans…

1. I remember when I first got I to K-pop and I tried to remember their names by remembering their hair color…. I was mistaken. Don’t. Save yourself the confusion.

2. Look up their ages. You might be in for a shock.

3. There is a thing called ‘Korean age’ and basically that means your favorites are going to have 2 ages. There actual age and then their Korean age. For Korean age you automatically turn one on the day you’re born and then gain another year on new year. So you basically add 1 to two years depending on if it’s before or after new year. So when you hear something like “they’re a 94 liner” that means that they were born in 1994..simple right.

4. They aren’t gay. Well logically speaking some of them probably are, but most are straight. Idols are affectionate with each other. You will see them sleeping and cuddling in the same bed, always touching one another, and always getting jealous over one of their members *cough * Jungkook *cough* They aren’t afraid of ‘skinship’ and that doesn’t make them gay.

5. Aegyo. Aegyo is basically just acting overly cute and it can take some getting used too especially if you’re from a country where 'cute’ isn’t really standard. Yeah grown men and women acting overly cute is still something I can’t handle a lot of.

6. V-live. V-live is basically video instagram for Korean artists. That is where they go live, post fun videos, and etc. You can download it completely free from your app store. There are some channels/content that you have to pay for if you want to watch it though. Most of the big names in K-pop will have subtitles on their content because of the lovely translators in the fandom, but a lot of the small or newer groups won’t. 😔

Oh and if you download vlive and your watching a solo live from one of your favorites and they aren’t your bias *favorite* DON’T ASK FOR OTHER MEMBERS!!!!!! It makes them feel bad… K… Thanks.

7. There is a dark side to K-pop. Most trainees get treated horribly, some idols don’t eat enough, Scandal on top of Scandal and etc but I’m going to all of that. You can dive into the tell of darkness on your own. Or you can message me or another K-pop fan with any questions.

8. Music shows. Music shows usually happen every week and if your face just had a comeback *aka released new music* then they will likely be on soon. The music shows have winners and those winners are chosen by sales, votes, and I believe views.. IDK. So if you want to vote you can go and make free accounts and vote. Accounts will also help you with voting for the end of the year music shows. MAMA is one of the major ones in case you’ve seen the phrase 'vote bts or vote exo or vote got7 for mama’ it’s not talking about voting for their mother.

9. Variety shows. Oh god variety shows. They will be the best and worst thing to happen to you because one you see your favorites on a variety program *which is kinda like a game show/interview* and you see how adorkable they truly are you are in that fandom for life. Sorry. Not sorry. No way out. K-pop is not a revolving door. Welcome.

Variety shows often involve punishments. Like being spanked by your fellow members or being hit on the head really hard with a toy hammer or flicked in the forehead. It’s weird but you’ll love it. Oh and the K-pop dances are amazing and scary complicated as is, but wait until you see it 2x faster. Not sure idols are human TBH.

10. Whiplash. What I mean by this is you are going to pick a favorite and they are going to be adorable and cute and you are going to want to protect them and their innocence and then they are going to get on stage or start dancing and they change into this rude creature and you’re not sure what just happened …i call it whiplash. The transition from fluffy to rude within .0000001 of a second. You get whiplash.

11. You have to go to YouTube and look up K-pop crack videos. Just look up 'K-pop crack’ or 'K-pop on crack’ they are so funny. Also the K-pop try not to laugh videos.

12. K-pop fandom. Each fandom has a name for their fans, like bts’ fans are called 'Army’ And each fandom either has or will at some point have a unique lightstick to represent their fandom. Fan chants are also a thing. You will often hear these at music shows and concerts. They are quite easy to pick up ion their own, but if you need assistance then you can google “ *group name* fan chants”

13. You don’t speak Korean. That is perfectly okay. Most of the big groups have amazing translators in their fandoms and they sub everything..mostly into English.. But I’ve seen some in Spanish and German too. You do not have to speak the language to be able to love K-pop. Music doesn’t need lyrics to be understood. But more power to you if you want to learn Korean it is a beautiful language and has amazing tradition and heritage that is so fun to learn about.

14. K-dramas. They are a thing and they are amazing. A lot of your favs have probably made an appearance if not had a leading role. Even if they don’t have your favs I do recommend downloading 'Drama Fever’ and binge watching. Again there are sub titles and most of the content is free, but there is some you have to pay for.

15. Military enlistment. It is law in Korea that every able-bodied man must serve at least 2 years in the military before they are 32. Idols from Thailand such as 2pm’s Nichkhun and Got7’s BamBam can either take the full 2 years or enter the draft. If they enter the draft and don’t draw a red card then they don’t have to go, but if they enter the draft and draw the red card then they have to serve the full 2 years. Idols from America and other countries are exempt I do believe.

Let me or another K-pop Stan know if you have any more questions and we’ll do our best to answer and if anyone has something else to add feel free ☺

Welcome to the K-pop life ♥

this post isn’t for transmisogynists

tbh? i think a lot of women are pushed away from identifying as women, especially lesbian women. acting like discomfort with being seen as a woman means someone is automatically not a woman is actively harmful. being a woman is a fundamentally uncomfortable position in society. u can be a trans or cis woman and be uncomfortable with womanhood. it doesn’t mean ur somehow not a woman.

this goes double for gender nonconforming women. being a butch lesbian is a painful experience, it’s beautiful too, but it’s not comfortable. both cis and trans butches commonly feel dysphoria around being seen as a woman because we are so opposite to what everything thinks women should be. (im sure femmes and other women also experience discomfort with womanhood in unique ways too, i just don’t have those experiences, but feel free to add on)

i think it’s part of why there are many lesbians who have previously identified as men or nb people. its uncomfortable to talk about, but there is a pressure in lgbt spaces for gnc women to not identify as women. being a woman is hard, being a lesbian is really hard, and discomfort with those roles doesn’t mean ur not genuinely a woman.

i know a lot of butches who get considered to be non-women because people are uncomfortable with their rejection of gender roles. butches who get mksgendered with “they” or “he” even when they exclusively use she/her. the context and danger of that is obviously different for trans and cis butches, but it happens to both

this is not to say that trans lesbians and cis lesbians all have the same experiences, just that lesbians over all are pressured to not identify as women.

i get extreme chest dysphoria and for a long time i thought that meant i couldn’t be a woman. hearing that other butches experiences the same thing was a godsend and i couldn’t believe i had never heard of this before. as i started talking to more butches and becoming more visibly butch, i realized why. no one likes women who are gnc, especially not lesbians. people want us to not be lesbians because it’s more “radical” to not be women.

basically, stop trying to force women to stop being women. stop misgendering butches. stop acting like discomfort with womanhood means someone isn’t a woman. start loving and respecting the women in ur life. start calling out ur misogynistic and lesbophobic friends. question the motives of people who act like butches are regressive and shouldn’t be women. question urself, do u not think of gnc women as women? do u consider lesbianism as a thing of the past? do u think lesbians are privileged over other members of the lgbt community? why?

lastly, reach out to the gender nonconforming women in ur life, ask how u can be there for them

anonymous asked:

Would you ever do a step by step on how you draw Cuphead and/or Bendy? I just b r e a t h e your art style and I wish to see how you draw them

i mean i guess i could lkjsdg

recently i’ve been playing w/ a new sketching style that isn’t really skeletal based but more just. blobbing it out like silhouettes. it’s quicker y’know and kinda fun to just scribble before getting down to business

so step one is just. circles

torso/chest (we’re startin’ w/ cup)

same process fr bendy

so i totally forgot to stop and take screenshots fr this but basically you just. have ur circles. and trace out probably ¾ of it (i added the faint black line to show the top of the circle) then add on his face and Other Parts. i usually do his eyes first, then nose, then mouth.

then just like. draw bode. there’s way too much here fr a step by step just drawing a body like you would normally following ur blob and go fr whatever the hell ur headcanons are may he’s a chubby circle maybe he’s a lanky Fuck

i tend to make cuphead and mugman kinda short n stout, especially in the legs. makes em a little cartoonier and more like bouncy kids

now w/ bendy digitally i always accidentally draw him lineless so the Tru process is just a black circle w/ this then throwing some white on and erasing the bit between his horns but we’ll treat this like i’m Not Doing That

i hate drawing his horns so i just do those first to get em outta the way

rest of face

adjust as needed and Add Face

i decided he needed to be a little hor-…… he needed bigger horns.

then like cup u just. draw body in. i don’t know a lot abt bendy besides fanon stuff bc i keep exiting the game w/o saving bc i’m a wimp but i know he’s a dancing boy so i like to make him a bit curvier/more lithe looking instead of blocky like the Bros. also big fun bowtie :} as far as i know from fanart he’s a Little Shit

u can choose to keep ur sketch blobs in or not. sometimes i get rid of them sometimes i don’t. i think they look kinda cool kept in!! also makes it harder fr people to take my shit and colour it like i keep telling them not to lmao

Spin Level, How Does It Work?

Hi guys, it’s been a long while but I’m finally back with the next part of this explanation series. This time, by popular demand and fueled by my own guilt from seriously neglecting spins in my tech posts so far, I’m going to talk about spin levels.

I have to fully disclose, up front, that this is a topic I hate with a vengeance. For reasons that will hopefully become clear to you through this post, them levels make my head spin (no pun intended), my stomach churn, and my eyes water.

Before I start, I’d like to offer my thank to @fuckyeahdearlybeloved who provided a lot of helpful advice on decoding the ISU cipher on spins (seriously guys, next time you’re in the mood for a mind-twisting mystery novel, try reading that section of the technical handbook instead), plus plenty of moral support in the form of snarky comment about my masochist tendency. If you guys have more questions about spins I’d like to wholeheartedly recommend her ask box (which may or may not be cleared by the year 2092).

Well, here goes nothing.

Now, spin levels range from B (no level) to 1 - 2 - 3 - 4. The building blocks of spin levels are the level features and that’s what we will be focusing on today. 1 feature = 1 level, so in order for a spin to achieve level 4, it must include at least 4 valid features. The ISU lists a total of 11 features any spin can have and an additional 2 specially for layback spins.

We will look at each of these features in detail.

Feature 1: Difficult variations

The ISU defines difficult spin variation as a movement which requires additional physical strength and flexibility, and has a material effect on the skater’s balance. If you recall from my previous post on spin explanation, there are 11 categories of these variations.

Three for camel spin

Three for sit spin.

Three for upright spin.

The layback spin is in a category of its own (aptly named the upright layback), and all non-basic positions are grouped into the final category.

You’ll need to remember all of these categories while attempting to figure out spin levels, because each of these variations, when performed in 2 revolutions or more, will count as one level for the spin in which it’s included. However, throughout the whole program (short and long), each category can only be counted once. Say a skater has performed the half-Biellmann (that one Janny did in the first gif) in one spin, if they later perform the same variation, or any other difficult variation belonging to the same camel forward category, it will not increase the level of the second spin. On the other hand, if the skater performs any additional feature on top of the difficult variation (mainly applicable to feature 6, 9, and 10, which we will get to in a bit), that one can be credited for additional levels.

Aside from feature 1, the rest of the features count strictly once per program. See, that is why I said these spin levels are icky. To determine the level for a step sequence or number of rotations for a jump, you only need to focus on that one element alone, however for spins you have to remember and discard those features that have been used in previous spins while counting the level for the current one. It’s like a convoluted game of bridge (I hate that card game too).

Summary: You’re sick, but for a very good reason.

Warnings: Vomiting and generally being ill. Implied/referenced smut.

Notes: Wrote this on a train, sorry if it’s crap (I was sleep-deprived and in a funny mood). Written for @supersoldierslover’s 3k writing challenge, with the prompt ‘taking care of each other whilst sick’.

also — there was a long period of time between me writing this and me editing it and man. Lemme tell you, I cracked myself up a few times (is that lame? idk) re-reading it.
