You looked him in the eyes from across the table. He winked at you, causing you to blush. Was he suggesting something? How could you tell? What if he wasn’t?

You watched him wink again and you looked away at Sam who’d noticed your flustered nature.

“Are you okay Lady (Y/N)?” Sam asks and you nod.

“Of course I am,” You fake a smile and your eyes flicker back to Jon.

Suddenly your hand is being nudged and you look down and see Ghost.

“Oh Ghost, you scared me,” You smile and you lean over and stroke him calmly, his fur warming your cold hands.

You sighed when Jon stood up and nodded to you both.

“I’m going to get some sleep,” He says and you smirk.

“Of course you are, you need your beauty sleep don’t you, Jon Snow?” You grin and Sam chuckles, “Run along pretty boy,”

“Goodnight,” He says, his voice filling with a slight annoyance and you smirk to Sam.

“A thousand years before the Conquest, a promise was made, and oaths were sworn in the Wolf’s Den before the old gods and the new. When we were sore beset and friendless, hounded from our homes and in peril of our lives, the wolves took us in and nourished us and protected us against our enemies. The city is built upon the land they gave us. In return we swore that we should always be their men. Stark men!” - Wylla Manderly, A Dance with Dragons, Chapter 19

Kill the boy, Jon Snow...

Sam was reading about the White Walkers again. He did not know how long it had been since last he’d slept.

One more folio, just one more. One more page, then I’ll go up and rest and get a bite to eat. But there was always another page after that one, and another after…

He had to leave now.

“Samwell,” said the glum voice of Dolorous Edd “I was coming to fetch you. I was told to bring you to the Lord Commander.”

“Jon wants to see me?”

“As soon as he is done with the Wildling girl.“

"Gilly.” Sam left his friends and made his way toward Jon Snow’s chambers.

Gilly was leaving as he arrived

“What’s wrong? How are the babes?”

Gilly pulled loose from him. “They’re good, Sam. Good.”

“Between the two of them it’s a wonder you can sleep. Which one was it that I heard crying last night? I thought he’d never stop.”

“The little prince. Mine … mine hardly ever cries.” Her eyes filled with tears. "I have to go. It’s past time that I fed them.” Gilly rushed out and he entered Jon’s chamber.

“Sam. Good You’re here” Jon said.

"I saw Gilly leaving. She was almost crying.”

“I am sending Gilly away.”

“Oh.” Sam bobbed his head. “Well, that’s … that’s good. It would be the best thing for her, to go somewhere warm and safe.”

"Have you found anything about the White Walkers in your books?”

"Not yet, my lord, but it may be that I’ve just been reading the wrong books. There are hundreds I have not looked at yet. Give me more time.”

“There is no more time.” Jon sounded sad. “You need to get your things together, Sam. You’re going with Gilly.”

“To Oldtown with old Maester Aemon

“But he is one hundred and two years old…”

“His life will be at risk. I am aware of that, Sam, but the risk is greater here. King Stannis knows who Aemon is. If the red woman requires his royal blood for her spells …”

“Oh.” Sam paled. “But you need me here.”

“Sam, the Night’s Watch has hundreds of men who can loose an arrow, but only a handful who can read or write. I need you to become my new maester. Study at the Citadel"

“Study…the Citadel …they make you cut up corpses there.”

“Maester Aemon is old and blind. His strength is leaving him. Who will take his place when he dies? You’ll go to the Citadel and forge a chain, and if you have to cut up corpses, so be it.”

The next morning, Sam, Gilly and old Aemon Targaryen had to leave.

Gilly looked frightened and timid when she whispered something to Jon

There was some promise he had to make. Sam didn’t understand.

And then the old, blind Aemon looked up to Jon.

“Allow me to give my lord one last piece of counsel, the same counsel that I once gave my brother when we parted for the last time. Kill the boy, Jon Snow. Winter is almost upon us. Kill the boy and let the man be born.”
