salvation

#CharlestonShooting victims face Dylann Roof in court and forgive him.

This is the kind of powerful answer to evil that I wrote about yesterday. In times like these we cannot drive out hate with more hate.  We cannot find answers by pointing the finger at people who look different or have different opinions than we do.  The only weapon to stamp out hate is love.  The only weapon to drive out darkness is light.

If man had his way, the plan of redemption would be an endless and bloody conflict. In reality, salvation was bought not by Jesus’ fist, but by his nail-pierced hands; not by muscle but by love; not by vengeance but by forgiveness; not by force but by sacrifice. Jesus Christ our Lord surrendered in order that He might win; He destroyed His enemies by dying for them and conquered death by allowing death to conquer Him.

There’s a purpose to knowledge … salvation. What good are my visions or your visions, beautifully and laboriously worked out in art, if the purpose of it is not to save something in our souls and make it all beautiful.
—  from Windblown World, by Jack Kerouac
On the Cross the greatest Love was ever displayed. Even since Adam and Eve, the world had rebelled against its Creator and had sinned against Him. But Love came down and became everything like a created being, except for its sinful nature. When the appointed time had come, Love became penalty for sin and thus, died as punishment. But as Love had no sin and was and is God, Love was victorious over death and overcame the grave. Love is now seated on the right hand of God and one day, will return to reign forevermore. Love wins.
