This is a short story by John Knowles which later developed into the book A Separate Peace. I typed it up from my copy of it, so any mistakes are mine. It’s really neat because some parts of it are in A Separate Peace word for word, some are slightly different and others were scrapped altogether. The bit in bold above the cut was written on the cover of the book.
