Have you watched doukyuusei? That is one really good movie, and the manga is also lovely. It is probably the only proper LGBT story in anime except viktuuri (though it's a movie).

There are multiple proper lesbian stories in anime though, imo. So saying LGBT is, I think very incorrect.  There are great shows like Utena, Yuri Kuma Arashi, Sailor Moon, Bodacious Space Pirates, Psycho Pass, Madoka Magica, and though I haven’t watched it I’ve heard Sweet Blue Flowers is really good. A couple of those are only side pairings, but a lot the f/f pairing is the main plot.

If you want a story about adult lesbians though, the only one of those that feature them is Psycho Pass, and it’s side cast.

I admit that with m/m pairings it’s a lot bleaker though. There’s series like Neon Genesis Evangelion and Cardcaptor Sakura that have legit M/M couples even though they’re not the focus. There’s Samurai Flamenco, which I am aware of the director interview of cringe but well… the show is good, and yeah, gay.

And I think that if you want a good story with transgender characters, there’s Tokyo Godfathers, and I’ve also heard Wandering Son is good. I haven’t watched it though.

Gatchaman Crowds has gay and gender non-conforming characters and frankly not a lick of heterosexuality despite the ‘obvious’ looking set up for it at the beginning (it never happens).

There’s also some decent manga. Right now a lot of people are talking about My Brother’s Husband, which I haven’t had a chance to read, but it’s by a gay Japanese man and it’s supposedly excellent. The first volume has just been released in the US.

It doesn’t feature a couple per se, but the autobiographical manga My Lesbian Experience with Loneliness was just released here, and I’ve been meaning to read it, as it is supposedly fantastic and hilarious and great.

You’ve probably seen the PV for Asagao to Kase-san, the really cute yuri anime that’s been going around that they want to make a full series for. They’ve started releasing the manga in the US as of a few months ago, if you want to read it. Hopefully they’ll make the anime!

I’ve heard Doukyuuusei is good though. I’ve been meaning to check it out. Slice of life isn’t super my thing, but since it’s just a movie and not a full length tv show, it might hold my attention.

(Anyway when I searched ‘good lgbt anime’ the google scroll at the top had Gravitation, Winter Cicada, and The Tyrant Falls in Love– all of which are basically bad shounen-ai titles? Uhh. It also had Ouran which like as popular as it is, shouldn’t be there. There was Maria-sama ga Miteru, which is class S bait, not really representation? Anyway, not good google. )
