Campaign Zero creators launch tool to show you how to fight Trump’s agenda in your state

  • The young minds behind the anti-police violence resource Campaign Zero launched an online tool on Monday that shows activists how to resist President Donald Trump’s agenda at the local level.
  • Our States,” a website that Mic previewed exclusively, gives users a state-by-state breakdown of bills that, if enacted, would strip civil rights and other legal protections from communities of color, women and LGBTQ people.
  • As Trump stumbles through his first months in office, Republican-controlled state legislatures are considering laws that would criminalize protests, restrict protections against LGBTQ discrimination and limit women’s access to safe and legal abortions, among other proposals.
  • “The purpose of Our States is to ensure that citizens know the legislation being proposed in their respective state, so that they can mobilize to either support or oppose it,” activist and Campaign Zero co-founder Deray Mckesson said in a statement to Mic. “The stakes are high.” Read more (3/27/17 10 AM)

Just had one of the best lectures I’ve had in med school

It was on ‘The ethics of abortion’, and I was sorta expecting a lecture tip-toeing around the different viewpoints without offending anyone. But our lecturer slayed!

- she started out by saying how the ‘pro life’ side always get emotive pictures of babies and foetuses etc, and that there’s hardly any for pro choice. So she put up a photo of a woman lying dead on the floor, after bleeding out from an unsafe abortion her partner tried to perform on her

- she showed us statistics on how abortion rates are lower in countries with safe, legal access to abortion

- she showed us more statistics on how high maternal death rates and deaths from unsafe abortions became when countries made access to abortion more restricted

- she put up photos of discarded babies in streets and rubbish bins in countries where abortion is illegal

- she talked about a case in the US where a woman was ex-communicated from an ethics committee at a catholic hospital, after the committee allowed a woman with life-threatening complications to have an abortion, then our lecturer commented that ‘it’s funny how it was wrong for her to do that, yet child abuse is apparently ok’

- she went through cases of more women who were so desperate to have an abortion that they seriously harmed themselves

- she ended the lecture on the photo of the woman who died, and said ‘whatever your stance on abortion, the fact is that if a woman has made up her mind that she doesn’t want to be pregnant, she will do whatever she can to get an abortion, even if it puts her life at risk’

We’re grateful to the compassionate and courageous doctors, nurses, physician assistants, and health center staff who work every day to keep patients healthy and ensure they have access to the reproductive health care they need — including safe and legal abortion.

Sign our card to say “thank you.”>>>

Pregnant people should always have access to a safe and legal abortion.

Always, with no exception.

A person shouldn’t be denied access because they’ve had abortions before, they have “too many” sexual partners or “too much” sexual intercourse, they didn’t use protection or if the method they used failed, etc.

They should ALWAYS have access.

There have been speeches, chants and protest anthems, both soulful and scathing — but as the masses have rallied and marched against President Trump’s policies over the past two weeks, it is the signs they carried that are being stamped into memory.

Protesters turned Trump’s own words against him, with their “Nasty Woman” banners and flaunting signs that declared “This p—- grabs back.” They scorned his seemingly cozy relationship with Russia: “Tinkle tinkle little czar, Putin made you what you are.” They mocked his appearance: “We Shall Overcomb” and “Hands too small to build a wall.” They found many different ways to reject his authority:

Not my President

Not my Führer

Not my Comrade

Not my Cheeto

With a pithy mix of humor and combativeness, this is protest art for the social-media era. While many kept their messages serious and straightforward — “Refugees Welcome,” “Keep Abortion Safe and Legal” — it was the new breed of signage that went viral long after the crowds dispersed. Gaining wide circulation on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram or various “best protest signs” listicles, they reached a vast audience that never went near a march or rally.

Read more here: Today’s protest signs are sharper, meaner, funnier — and live on long after the rallies

BTS Reaction to: Their Girlfriend Being Bisexual

Can you do a bts reaction to their girlfriend being bisexual ?

Jin: When you told him, he mulled over what this meant. He wondered if you would somehow be less loyal. But that idea made him giggle. Not only is he the King of Visuals, but he’s the type to judge on personality. You’ve shown him nothing but loyalty and love, so although this new information does take him back for a second, he ultimately doesn’t care.

“Okay, cool. Do you want to play Mario Kart? And maybe order take away?”

Suga: Min Yoongi, a Bi Messiah, does not give a f*ck. Gender and sexuality don’t matter to him. Yes, he is glad to date someone who understands him, who doesn’t think “Why can’t you just pick a side?” or that being bi “is just a phase.” And that’s it; he doesn’t think any more or less of you because of it. He would love you just the same if you were straight or pansexual.

Love is love, at the end of the day.

J-Hope: Ok, so just hear me out,,, but in my most humble opinion, I think that Hobi’s bi too or at least curious about experimenting. So this news only makes him excited. He thinks all sexualities are normal and that it’s okay to have sex with whoever you want, as long as it’s safe, consensual and you’re legally an adult. And he’ll ask you about your past experiences, not to fetishize you, but just out of curiousity. I really do think he’s experimented with boys before (I will die for Sope) so it’s an open, comfortable conversation that brings you closer together. He might even suggest a threesome, purely joking and not in any way trying to force you into anything. But if you show interest, he’ll be so elated.

“Wait, really? Hell yeah!”

Rap Monster: ngl this boy immediately started imagining you going down on some hot girl. But he also takes your words very seriously. He hates if ppl make bi jokes or are like “Ayy your girl’s bi, how do you know she won’t cheat?” and all that crap. He may not understand from a personal viewpoint but he knows that bi’s are a “grey” area in the LGBT community and get a lot of hate from ignorant ppl. So he’ll never reduce your sexuality to a joke or try to use it against you. You can be open and comfortable around Namjoon, who loves you for you. You being bi doesn’t change that.

But it does give him something great to fantasize about on tour …

Jimin: Not for a second does his view of you change. He has friends that are bisexual *cough* Suga *cough* and even follows a lot of openly bi artists. So this information doesn’t bother him at all. He is, however, hyper aware, on days when he’s feeling self conscious, of all the attractive ppl around; wondering sometimes if you’ll leave him for them. But that’s not an issue with you, that’s his personal insecurities talking. As long as you prove your loyalty and remind him of his beauty, both inside and out, those moments pass quickly and ChimChim is nothing but loving to you ~

V: “What’s that?” Listens to you explain your sexuality, never interrupting or judging you. He just nods along. “That’s cool. So do you want to go get strawberries?” As long as you love him, that’s all that matters … Until a few days later when he suddenly realizes;

“Wait, have you had sex with girls?”

He doesn’t ask this to be creepy. He asks only because it makes him realize that out of everyone in the world you could be with, you chose him. And that makes him melt.

“Awww, my heart is fluttering ~”

Jungkook: tbh Jungkook takes the news the worst. Not because you’re somehow “gross” but bc he’s young and not very experienced. Although he looks cocky on stage, under that persona is that shy, young boy from Busan who admires his hyungs. So he feels unworthy of your love, comparing himself to your exes, thinking that if they couldn’t keep you happy, how could he? He can’t stop imagining you with another girl, thinking that no one understands a woman’s body like another woman, right? How could he compete with that?

You need to explain to him how dating girls is the same as dating boys; there’s good, bad and ugly relationships. The only difference is the gender. As he learns to understand your sexuality more, he realizes that he worried for nothing.

“How foolish was I? Thinking you’d leave me, when I’m the greatest there is? Boys and girls don’t stand a chance against me.”

What Just Happened with Title X, Pence, and Planned Parenthood?
Last week Vice-President Mike Pence cast the tie-breaking vote to repeal an Obama-era protection for the Title X family planning program. Here's what that means.

Bridget Todd explains:

You may have seen that on Thursday Vice President Mike Pence cast the tie-breaking vote to repeal an Obama-era protection for the Title X family planning program. What exactly does that mean? Let’s break it down.

  1. This bill DOES NOT “defund” Planned Parenthood. Rather it could embolden state politicians to block patients with low incomes who rely on Title X from getting care from reproductive health care providers, including Planned Parenthood, just because they provide safe, legal abortion.
  2. This bill DOES overturn an Obama administration rule. In December, the Obama administration issued a rule that simply clarified and reinforced existing law around Title X.
  3. It is already against federal law to prevent health care providers from participating in Title X because they also provide abortion. A Florida court confirmed this last summer. The Obama rule simply clarified existing law.

What’s Next: The resolution has been passed by both the House and Senate, and  it now heads to President Trump’s desk. His signature is sure to embolden states to try to block people’s access to care at health centers just because they  provide safe, legal abortion.

But the bottom line is this:  Even if President Trump signs it, Planned Parenthood isn’t “defunded,” and it will still see patients and keep providing the essential health care that 2.5 million people rely on each year.

The next Supreme Court justice will rule on cases that strike at the very heart of who we are as a country — including challenges to Roe v. Wade that could strip women of the right to safe and legal abortion.

Donald Trump’s Supreme Court nominee, Neil Gorsuch, has a history of interfering with reproductive rights and health, including access to birth control.

I was raised Catholic and still practice the faith. I am 1000% pro-choice, pro-LGBT, and pro-women joining the priesthood. Because many members of the Church are either strongly against or uncomfortable with these stances, it sometimes leaves me frustrated. Especially with abortion, where people from my parish cannot even have open-minded, nuanced discussions about it, and it leaves me frustrated. They behave like hypocrites, despite calling themselves 'pro-life'. Do you have any facts, >>>

>>> articles, or writings from women of faith that would help reaffirm these stances?

Hi there! I don’t read many religious writers myself, so I’m not much of an expert on feminists of faith, but for Catholics I would recommend starting with Catholics For Choice.

“Catholics for Choice believes in a world where everyone has equal access to the full range of reproductive healthcare services - including access to safe and legal abortion services and affordable and reliable forms of contraception. CFC works to change the conversation regarding sexual and reproductive rights to one where the individual conscience of each person is recognized as the keystone of moral decision making.”

Hope that helps!

Our right to abortion—the ability to make autonomous decisions about our bodies—is not a matter of personal or political belief. It is a right. For over 40 years, the Constitution has protected our right to safe and legal abortion. Whoever assumes the role of justice on the Supreme Court, the highest court in the land, will face the charge of protecting this fundamental right, today, tomorrow and for generations to come.

We stand united with the ACLU, Planned Parenthood, and allies across the country protecting your reproductive rights.

BRUCE: I’ve created jobs by keeping Wayne Enterprises in Gotham. I’ve provided scholarships to every employee of my company and I offer them to others as well. I’ve built orphanages and hospitals, including mental health facilities. I’ve provided jobs to ex-felons right out of prison so they can rebuild their lives. I’ve supported pro-reform political candidates and the few honest cops in Gotham City.

BRUCE: It’s going to take time to reform the system and lift this city out of poverty and corruption, so I think I’ll spend my evenings protecting the people who live here. Tonight, I’m going after the criminals preying on the sex workers struggling to make a living in Crime Alley.

BRUCE: And once I’ve kicked some ass, I’ll offer their victims jobs at Wayne Enterprises so they can get off the streets and have stable, safe, legal employment. I’ll pay for any education or training they might need.

instead of the usual mom friend, dad friend, etc. try sorting your squad into these fun new categories:

the Montacrew Squad Meme

The Benvolio Friend: basically the mom friend, does their best to keep everyone safe and legal (but isn’t necessarily opposed to having some fun don’t worry)

The Mercutio Friend: has the (probably bad) ideas and follows through with most of the (probably bad) ideas unless the benvolio friend intervenes, flirts with everyone and everything which gets them into trouble a lot (however is also the reason the squad gets to do a lot of fun things)

The Romeo Friend: tends to follow the mercutio friend, often seems a bit distracted and thinking about something totally unrelated to the squad discussion, most likely of the squad to get/have a significant other (probably very emotional possibly cries a lot)

BONUS

The Tybalt Friend: fiercely loyal and will fight anyone who isn’t in the squad. v protective of other (especially younger) squad members, usually has to be dealt with by the benvolio friend if they get angry

How exactly did it come to pass that people have come to believe the worst kind of oppression is not being constantly and unquestioningly validated in their Identity? In a world where FGM, female infanticide, acid attacks, pay gaps and blocks to safe legal medical care for women ( I could go on but who has the time) exist maybe misgendering or someone not knowing you’re bi when they see you out with your boyfriend or husband shouldn’t be anyone’s main concern.

In the midst of all this madness, all this fear, this division and hate i could only find solace in art. Art has always been a way to confort me, and i am not proud to say that I’ve taken refugee in Yuri on Ice, and Legally Blonde for the past two days. I know i am not the the only one who has done this, but, still i feel dissappointed on myself.

As it is said “Art is a way to encourage the process and the experience of thinking and making things better!” So if i can find temporal solace in Art, i encourage you all to do the same and find your solace. The best artists have arisen in times of political turmoil and public discomfort.
Please stay safe, as a non religious person, I would like to say I’ll pray for you all, but i think to start now would be quite hypocritical of me. Rest assured i sure will meditate, and annoy the fuck out of Amida praying that the congress and the senate get illuminated and stop this wave of hate and xenophonia that could hurt so many.
Please no one translate this to mom, I don’t want her to be more worried than what she can already be.

And to my sister in the US. Please, stay safe. I don’t know what i would do if anything happened to you.

On a brighter note. Hoping to get our minds off this madness. Consider, a Solangelo Legally Blonde AU, Will decides to get into Harvard Medical School to prove his ex (i’m, imagining a girl, cause i have this HC that will is a trans bi boy, but IDK) that he is much more than just a petty blond. He meets Nico who’s a recently graduated Traumatologist. Idk. think about it.

Also, if you like my work, you should totally hit the Like and reblog button, maybe even following me, or idk, maybe support this College student byactually Commissioning me or going to my Patreon Account! In any case allthese options help artists out. Thanks Mim’s out.
