How much independence?

(November 2011)

(August 2013)

In my opinion, when One Direction (usually Liam) have spoken about control, they aren’t talking about public actions, promotional strategies, and publicity. They are speaking about artistic control and the creative process—songwriting, production—their sound. Did they have more and more writing and involvement with each of their albums? Yes. And it’s extremely important to them. They didn’t get to choose their singles, though. (Consider, too, did they choose their merch? Were they eager to release yet anotherwas it the fourth??—perfume? Or a 1D make-up line? No.)

Gal Gadot Got Paid the Same as Henry Cavill in Their Superhero Stand-Alone Debuts
Slow your roll, Twitter Outrage.

Contrary to a story that Wonder Woman’s Gal Gadot made millions less than her DC counterpart Henry Cavill as Superman, the two were paid the same for their debut standalone outings.

That’s according to a source familiar with both negotiations, who told The Hollywood Reporter that Gadot made the same amount upfront if not slightly more on Wonder Woman than Cavill made on 2013’s Man of Steel.

The alleged salary discrepancy story was based on a post from Elle magazine, which cobbled together salary information that had previously appeared in various publications and did not differentiate between upfront salary vs. bonuses and performance escalators.

The story was later updated but caused a stir on the internet as Hollywood’s gender gap on wages has become a popular issue. The Elle story said Gadot was paid $300,000 for Wonder Woman vs. $14 million Cavill received for Man of Steel. The source called the latter figure “ridiculous.”

Warner Bros., the studio behind both movies, declined to comment.

A salary of low- to mid-six figures is standard fare for Hollywood tentpoles, especially for actors with short track records; Gadot had bit parts in movies such as Date Night and Knight and Day before landing a more substantial but still supporting role in the Fast & Furious movies. Chris Hemsworth made $150,000 for his starring debut in 2011’s Thor, for example. Adam Driver was paid in the $500,000 range for his part in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, according to sources. Felicity Jones, who had an Oscar nomination under her belt before landing the lead in Rogue One, was paid more than $1 million for the Star Wars stand-alone.

These salary figures do not take into account box-office bonuses, which hit when certain benchmarks are hit. And actors gets substantial increases when it comes to sequels, even in spite of having option agreements and especially if a movie is as successful as Wonder Woman (the film has earned $574 million worldwide to date). Gadot’s deal will very likely be renegotiated.

The disappearance of 10-month-old Lisa Irwin still baffles the residents of Kansas City. At approximately 4AM on 4 October, 2011, Lisa’s father, Jeremy, discovered her missing. Lisa’s mother, Deborah, had put Lisa to bed the evening before while Jeremy went out to work the graveyard shift. It was when he came home from work in the early morning that it was discovered she wasn’t in her crib.

He relayed how he noticed that most of the lights were on, a window was open, and the front door was left unlocked. They also told investigators that their cellphones were also missing. An Amber Alert was issued immediately due to the young age of Lisa - 10-months-old. She certainly couldn’t have ran away from home. An exhaustive search ensued. Volunteers combed through fields, drained wells, and even searched neighbours’ homes.

Wracked with guilt, Deborah admitted that she had been drunk that night and didn’t check on her daughter before retreating to bed at around 10:40PM. As is the case with all missing children, the parents were the first suspects. They fell under a darker cloud of suspicion when cadaver dogs picked up a scent inside their home, near their bed. Furthermore, burnt baby clothes were found in a dumpster nearby their home. Nevertheless, they both passed lie detector tests.

So what happened to Lisa? The family are certain that somebody entered their home in the middle of the night and kidnapped her. Two neighbours reported that they saw a man walking down the street carrying a baby on the night she disappeared. However, the description of the man varied greatly from witness to witness. What baffles investigators about this theory is that it’s extremely rare for such a young baby to be abducted. “I do not believe this was a stranger abduction,” confessed FBI agent, Michael Tabman.

Despite numerous leads and a thorough investigation, what happened to baby Lisa still remains a mystery.
