Osamu Akimoto's "KochiKame" Manga Ends Its 40-Year Serialization on September 17

It’s the end of an era, folks! Kochira Katsushika-ku Kameari Kouen Mae Hashutsujo, aka KochiKame, is ending it’s 40 year run in Japan’s Shounen Jump magazine. The September 17 issue will be it’s last, with it’s 200th and final volume also releasing the same day. Running since 1976, the long running comedy centers around the misadventures of middle-aged cop Kankichi Ryotsu & the series’ large cast of characters. Often compared to The Simpsons in format, the series has had not only real life Japanese celebrities guest star in the manga and anime, but has also had special chapters of the manga where characters cross over with other well-known manga characters, from series such as Golgo13, Lupin III, and Dragon Ball. On September 18th in Japan, a new 1-hour anime special will also be airing to celebrate it’s 40th anniversary.
