Last year on a family vacation I met an incredible family. They were on vacation to decompress after their oldest daughter, Ryan, lost her 3 year battle with a very rare cancer.
Ryan’s parents inspired me not just because they survived something that most parents can’t even fathom, but because they were 2 of the most positive people I’ve ever met.
When I returned from the vacation I Googled their daughter and was absolutely blown away by the impact that this little girl had on so many people. In her 11 short years she was an artist, a figure skater, a student, a sister and a daughter. She was an inspiration to all who met her - and to me, who never got that chance.
In honor of Pediatric Cancer Awareness Month I wanted to share the story of Ryan’s family.

Set in 1892, the movie tells the story of a legendary Army Captain Joseph J. Blocker (Bale), who after stern resistance, begrudgingly agrees to escort a dying Cheyenne war chief, Chief Yellow Hawk (Studi) and his family back to tribal lands. Making the perilous journey from an isolated Army outpost in New Mexico to the grasslands of Montana, the former rivals encounter a young widow (Pike), whose family was murdered on the plains. She joins them as they try to overcome the hostile Comanche tribes.
His image was acting out again, up to its old tricks: moving a half-second ahead of him, in this case. I knew I should have killed him when I had the chance, Paul thought savagely, and did his best to keep up.
