runway rules

T.O.P x Dries Van Noten

I couldn’t help myself. I know how Seunghyun feels about taking his shirt off, but in alternate universe, if he could rule the runways, oh God, he’d slay like this. (Clothes are inspired by Dries Van Noten’s Menswear 2016 Spring)

Elie Saab | Couture Spring 15’

Sometimes when gazing at Elie Saab designs I day dream that I am a princess, or better yet - a glamourous actress waving at my fans while I basked in how awesome I look on the red carpet. They just have that effect on you. Each gown exudes effortless confidence and femininity while always maintaining a high degree of detailed artistry. By always keeping the silhouettes simple, flattering and elegant, his designs stay very accessible. It is no wonder that the front row of his couture shows are lined with clients rather than the typical A-Listers and editors.

Fifty-five heavenly garments made their way down the tree-lined runway during Paris Couture Week, each more lovely than the last. The fairytale like atmosphere made the perfect backdrop for the romantic jumpsuits, cocktail dresses and red carpet worthy gowns. For spring, his latest collection boasted a palette of ivory, rose, powder blue and mint with delicate ostrich feathers, sparkly appliqués and embroideries and intricate crystal beading. Towards the end of the presentation tulips and abstract butterflies ruled the runway. Elie Saab sited his mother as his inspiration for the collection.

“With every new collection I conceived, the striking image of my mother in this tulip-print silk dress reappeared endlessly.”

The final look, a rainbow-hued wedding gown, ended the show on a high note. Modeled by Anna Cleveland and dramatically spanning the width of the runway, the gown solidifies that Elie is never one to disappoint.

6 Athletic-Inspired Essentials to Step Up Your Fashion A-Game

You don’t need to be a sports fan to get involved with one of the summer’s biggest trends. Athletic-inspired looks ruled the runways, from sleek and sexy sportswear at Gucci, to sequined streetwear at Ashish and tennis whites seen at Rag & Bone.

For sporty-cool style advice, look to one of our favorite bloggers, Jayne Min of Stop It Right Now, or channel models-off-duty in a mix of casual sports inspired pieces worn back with denim. We break down the key elements you need to get the look below.

1) The Sweatshirt

Unleash your inner track star in a classic grey marl sweatshirt, which is enjoying something of a fashion moment currently. An everyday essential all women should have in their closets, look for styles with slogans and varsity lettering.

Backstage: Atelier Versace Haute Couture Spring 2015

Sexy cut-outs in bold shades of red, black, blue and white ruled the runway at the Atelier Versace Haute Couture Presentation in Paris. Attracting guests like Kate Hudson, in one of the runway’s pieces, and her mother, Goldie Hawn, veteran models, Amber Valetta and Eva Herzigova walked down the runway alongside new icons like Karlie Kloss, Jourdan Dunn and Natasha Poly. Versace was always known for its sexy, cool dresses and the Haute Couture show didn’t disappoint. Wondering if any of these pieces would go down the red carpet when Oscar season rolls around.

Model!Erwin and MUA!Levi, envious of this stupid model's strong jawline, nice skin and cheekbones but /DEAR GOD/ those eyebrows though.

He had looked perfectly fine from the back. Perfectly fine from the side, too, if Levi was being honest. But when he got around to the front of D&G’s latest model, his makeup kit clutched in his hands, he nearly fell over.

Those eyebrows. No. It was like one of Levi’s worst nightmares.

The model looked at him, arching one of them, perplexed at Levi’s reaction. At this point, Levi was all but cowering on the floor and begging said eyebrows not to eat him for breakfast.

Levi clung to the last vestiges of his professional nature as he slowly relaxed his death grip on the handle of his makeup box. “I’m Levi, and I’ll be your makeup artist for the next few shoots,” he got out through gritted teeth. “It’s a pleasure to meet you, Mr…?”

“Smith,” the model said, with a smile that could have blinded Levi across a room. “But just call me Erwin, it’ll feel weird if you just keep calling me Mr. Smith. Like in that movie!”

Levi was severely out of touch with pop culture, and so did not know what movie Erwin was talking about. He popped open his makeup kit, frowning as he rummaged through the brushes and small tins of powder foundation, looking for the appropriate shade. Not that Erwin’s face would need a drastic amount of touch-up, Levi thought as he flicked a surreptitious glance at the model over his shoulder. Those cheekbones and that jawline could practically rule a runway by themselves.

“Have you been doing this long?” Erwin asked amiably as he leaned back in his chair at Levi’s prompting. Levi dusted foundation across Erwin’s cheeks and tried not to stare at the hedges of the man’s eyebrows.

“A good amount of time,” Levi murmured, the bristles of the soft brush sweeping across Erwin’s skin. “Say,” he said; Erwin looked particularly vulnerable like this, and Levi was hopeful that perhaps he might be able to knock some sense into the man. “Have you ever thought about maybe getting your eyebrows threaded?”

Erwin’s eyes shot open at the allegation, and he all but glared viciously up at Levi in what could only be seen as a firm no. Levi dropped his gaze in shame and fear. Satisfied that the threat was all but eliminated, Erwin closed his eyes again and allowed Levi to continue brushing foundation onto his face.

(Gingham, one of spring’s hottest trends, has gone from ruling the runways to dominating the InStyle headquarters. No prior planning here–three staffers have taken a liking to the print, and they each gave the gridlike pattern their personal flair.
