A kitten mewed nearby, and the pirate stumbled in surprise. He stared down at the small, black furball with a smile. It was so cold outside, and this little creature was all alone.
“Aww…hey there buddy….” the pirate knelt, heart and soul radiating happiness at the cat’s presence.
Picking up the mound of fluff, he set the kitten down on a bench so he could fumble for a rag or something to wrap it in.
“Almost got something kitty…hang on….”
“Take all the time you need!”
“Thanks! Much appreciated.”
The pirate halted, swinging his head around. The kitten had spoken to him?? No…not a kitten….a young man was crouched in the animal’s place. Where had the kitten run off to?
“Did you see a black kitten there just a few seconds ago?”
Bracero nodded with dignity. “Indeed!”
The pirate scratched his head. “Where did he run off to?”
“Nowhere!” Bracero jumped and landed in front of the mortal with incredible agility.
“You’re not making much sense….and how’d ya do that?”
Eyes that had been a previous light brown, were now a pale jade. Five inch claws flexed, gripping the unfortunate’s shoulder.
“You shouldn’t be concerned with that….but you can be…of this!”
Bracero’s mouth opened, dozens of pointy teeth, all varying lengths, unfolding and dripping with saliva. The wayward scallywag’s throat was found with a massive chunk of flesh missing; like a bear trap had gotten a hold of him.
