Prompt: “Because you’re my home.”

She brought Sofia back the following weekend just as promised, but there was something different about Callie as she stood there on Arizona’s doorstep, long after the little girl had disappeared behind them – something different in her eyes, in the way she looked at the blonde more studiously than she had in…well, years.

And Arizona was about to ask how the trip had been, genuinely curious and glad to see the brunette looking so much happier now, but before she could open her mouth to speak there were words coming out of Callie’s and she found herself absolutely and completely lost.

“I’m staying in Seattle, and we’re all going to be happy,” she started, her voice full of a confidence that reminded the blonde of the Callie she’d first met, “because the biggest reason I was sad was because I missed you, Arizona, and I figured we really had missed our chance and we’d really screwed it up this time but then you came and you gave me Sofia and you gave me those tickets and you were so incredibly selfless and I knew – I knew – that there was still something between us.”

“And so I’m staying,” she took a breath and continued before Arizona could get over her shock, “and we’re going to be together again – I am committed to making us work again because god, Arizona, when we were together it was so amazing; it was amazing and magical and it was all the time and I know we hurt each other, but I’ve come to realize that doesn’t change the fact that I want to be with you more than anyone else, that I want to be happy with youbecause you are my home.”

Arizona was more stunned than she’d ever been in her life as she watched the passion in those dark eyes, and although somewhere, vaguely, she thought it shouldn’t be this simple, she also never thought they’d be back here again and as she took a step forward and wrapped her arms around Callie’s neck, whispering a reply next to her ear, all she cared about was that now she could truly be happy too.

“Welcome home.”
