Do you like the theory that grown-up Gideon is not Belle and Rumple's son, but a changeling?
No, ChangeTheChangeling!Anon, because that sucks all the dramatic tension out of the story. “By working together, we’ve managed to save … this totally random baby!” All babies are precious but some are more precious to the audience, you know?
Given that we’ve seen discussions about “changing fate” and seen de-aging powder work on a hapless fairy in 6A I fully expect this season to end with Gideon de-aged to a non-murderous infant again. I also hope that Rumple will use the shears on himself to show that he’s choosing love over power and that he’ll never hurt his family with magic again– but this one is more up-in-the-air. SOMEBODY has to use the shears, and it’s either Emma or Rumple. My money’s on Rumple, though.
…who have been all over Tumblr squealing and gloating in people’s inboxes about the upcoming CY nups. “Haha! They are for sure endgame now! Nannynannybooboo!”
Dudes. Rumbelle have been married for almost three seasons now, and for every minute of that time, most of you guys have been shrieking and gloating that they are not “endgame” or that they shouldn’t be. “Rumple has to die!” “Belle deserves a twuly good man, such as a dead serial killer!” “He/she is so abusive!”
Guess what? You can’t now play the sanctity of marriage card. Engagement/marriage doesn’t make your couple any less of a codependent and, yes, abusive mess (exhibit A: one party attempting suicide to get the other’s attention). And people are going to keep talking about it, hoping that Emma comes to her senses, and if they want to, hoping that she will wake up to her real feelings for Regina.
You’re like the bigots who spent the eight years of the Obama presidency wailing and whinging and now are suddenly claiming the president must be respected. Ain’t gonna happen. :-)
Coda: A note about timing
CY have been dating for somewhere in the neighborhood of five months (10 days in 4A, 6 week gap, 3 weeks in 4B, 6 weeks in Camelot, a week back in SB, sometime in the underworld, and maybe a week and a half in SB). They moved in together during 6.5, or no more than five days before the midseason finale. Their “courtship” (for lack of a better word) covered, generously two and a half weeks if you count Neverland. And of course the whole relationship is based on lies, codependence, and manipulation, and has been punctuated by murder attempts, emotional abuse, and lots more lies.
I’ve seen claims that neither Rumbelle nor Snowing knew each other that long before they got married, either. But let’s look at the time line.
Rumbelle’s first weeks at the DC were when Marian was visibly but not overwhelmingly pregnant with Roland. He’s still four in early S3, about 6 months after the curse break, so Rumbelle met roughly four years pre Curse. And per 3B, Belle was still at the DC when Snowing met. She has to have left almost immediately after that, because Rumple thinks she’s dead when he has Charming put the TL egg in Mal just before Snowing get engaged, and we know that was only about two months later.
Yes, Snowing got engaged about two months after they met. (of course neither of them tried to murder the other or their families.) Charming sent the pigeon to Snow about a month after they met, which led to the whole series of S1 events with the queen on a very condensed basis.
But how long were they engaged? They conducted a war against Regina, beat her, and put her on trial before their wedding.
When Hook shows up in Belle’s cell the day before the curse, we see the hashmarks on the wall indicating that she’s been there years. (I think someone counted and it works out to two and a half years but I can’t find the source.) In any case we know that Snowing’s official wedding was about eight months before the curse (Snow got pregnant on her honeymoon per her meeting with Mal in S4 and Emma was born slightly premature). So Belle was captured about two years before their wedding. WE don’t for sure know when in that engagement period they had their secret wedding but my guess is that it can’t be THAT earliy because it’s not a secret that’s easy to keep.
TL;DR: Rumbelle and Snowing both knew each other for between one and a half and two years before marriage.
I understand loving a “ship.” I get it. It’s great I’m a Rumbelle fan. But if the entire show was just Rumple and Belle making Googly eyes at each other while Rumple insisted he’s a hero over and over, practically directly to the audience, I’d get bored with that too.
I don’t understand how anyone is entertained with everything constantly revolving around Emma and Hook staring at each other like love-sick puppies. It’s boring.
Please blow up something, fight something, rescue someone, travel, rescue a character other than your significant other, talk about characters other than your significant other, defuse a magical-bomb …. SOMETHING!
Just stop staring at each other with longing and do something and please stop repeating the “Emma needs to learn to let people in.” Emma: “Gosh, you’re right. I keep closing myself off even though this was supposed to have been resolved back in season 2 or 3.”
It’s as bad as claiming Rumplestiltskin has never chosen love over power (ignoring almost all of season 3…) Please stop repeating yourself and fixating on who is in love with who. it’s getting boring. Let the couples be couples but give them something to do besides stare at each other (or in the case of Rumple and belle) randomly fight for very forced and contrived reasons.
I miss the thing called plot…
When we say we want things to be more character driven and less plot based we don’t mean shipper fluff or unnecessary angst for fights that really shouldn’t even be happening because it forced out of character behavior for the sake of it.
What we mean is we want to explore other aspects of the characters, such as the emotions and motivations for things besides romance. i.e. Rumplestiltskin’s year caged by Zelena after he failed to save his son who died to revive him, or Belle coming to terms with her long term captivity at the ends of Regina, or addressing that Regina had her heart, or Emma discussing the fact that Neal is in Heaven, or finding out for sure if Robin’s soul is in tact and at peace or the unresolved issue of Lily’s father, or finding a way to make it where Maleficent can leave the town without turning to dust (which makes no sense since Charming was saved from poison via magick and Dr. Whale got his arm re-attached via magick yet no one says they’ll die or suddenly be maimed if they leave the town), or maybe even Dorothy finding a way to save Auntie Emm and the other lost souls from
The Acheron (River of lost Souls).
I am sure other Rumbelle fans may have noticed this long before I did but I just noticed this and thought I should share it.
First I’m going to flash back here to season two when we saw Milah mock Rumplestiltskin with her pirate friends at the tavern. Later when she’s hung over (despite how she treated him) human Rumplestiltskin offers her a cup of tea but she does not take it.
(Ironic that there are some haters who insist this guy somehow abused her. She left their child home alone with a fire while she mocked her disabled husband to pirates. And later when she’s hung over he tries to give her tea. Sooooo abusive. That’s sarcasm, by the way…)
In Season four during the AU where he is “The Light One” it’s Belle who offers him a cup of tea to help clear his thoughts.
He ends up dropping it and it becomes that universe’s chipped cup.
The point here is that tea has always had a special significance to Rumple before he even became the imp, before even Belle’s chipped cup.
Now back to Skin Deep. After Rumplestiltskin kicks Belle out we see Rumple alone at his spinning wheel when Regina barges in. He was not expecting her that day. She’s there to discuss “a certain little mermaid.”
However… look at the tea he has out. Rumple had two tea cups ready. I think he was hoping that despite having kicked her out, that Belle would again return and he could make amends over a cup of tea, as he would have when he was mortal.
Look. There are two cups. He wasn’t expecting Regina. They both make that clear. She just helped herself to the tea. So who was that second cup for?
He was hoping Belle would return. He wanted to talk to her, he wanted to be the one to serve her tea.
And what is the first thing he does for Belle in the very first episode of Season two? Well, it’s interrupted by the heroes barging into his shop but he’s preparing her that tea finally.
I think that after Rumplestitlskin kicked Belle out in Skin Deep he kept setting out two cups and tea in case she’d come back, hoping she’d come back. And after he believed her to be dead he would have given anything to have that cup of tea with her…
It was always there in the back of his mind so when they were finally reunited it was the first thing he did with her, besides admitting he loves her.
When he serves you tea it’s his way of apologizing or an act of humility. In any event it seems to be his go to instinct for “making things right.”
I wonder if that’s something child Rumple got from the spinsters who raised him, that when things are bad, or you are fighting with someone, pour them a cup of tea. Tea makes everything better. Even the AU Belle set it. “Things always look better after a nice cup of tea.”
I’m sorry, but I LOVE season six Belle. I LOVE newly independent, not gonna take any shit from ANYONE Belle. I LOVE Belle connecting with new characters. Belle carving out her OWN future and doing what SHE knows to be best. This is the Belle that I knew growing up. The woman who was smart, brave, and unwilling to serve as another man’s property.
Belle deserves better. She deserves a love interest who will treat her well and respect her agency. Rumple’s proven again and again that he’s not that person. I mean, how many times has she given him another chance, only for him to betray her yet again? Enough is enough.
So let Belle relish in her freedom. Celebrate Belle finding her own voice and making friends and forming bonds. These are all GOOD things for her character. And tbh, something that should’ve happened seasons ago.
