“Do you know what it’s like to be named for the dead?” James asks his father in the middle of one of many arguments. “Do I remind you of a man we’ve never met? Am I in honor of someone you watched die? Because I don’t want it.” When James Sirius Potter looks at himself in the mirror, he sees a mess of reddish brown curls and slightly askew glasses and freckles everywhere. He sees hands that climb trees and grip tightly to broomsticks. He sees his mother’s smile and hears his father’s voice. Because James seems like the thick goofball of the family, but he reads history book after history book, wishing to never repeat the sins of their fathers. If he saw any of James Potter he wouldn’t recognize him at all, and maybe, he fears, that’s where he falls short.
“Do you know what it’s like to be named for the dead,” Albus says one day to Rose as they sit by the Great Lake. “Names of men who I think aren’t the heroes I’ve been told about. Men I’m told are brave but seem just as bad as the rest.” Albus Severus Potter loves being called Al and having his hair ruffled by his friends. He loves sitting on high ledges and looking out at the vast sky and thinking about what is on the other side of the earth. Albus Potter sticks his nose in old books and keeps to himself and has no desire for greatness in any form. He doesn’t want to lead a war or be a spy. He wants to be Al and bake with his grandmother on Sundays and give his sister piggyback rides. And, most days, that feels like admitting failure.
“Do you know what it’s like to be named for the dead,” Lily shouts one day with tears in her eyes. “I’m not her, I’m not her, I’m not her,” she repeats over and over again. Because Lily Luna Potter is a Slytherin and brutal and fierce and full of fire and made of stone. She is not soft and kind - she is not the woman who saved her child from death. Because she can be selfish and harsh and unforgiving. She spends her mornings running through the icy, frozen woods and her nights leaning over windowsills because the rush is just right. Lily Potter will fight to the death, but for no one but herself. And does that make her somehow distorted, she wonders as she flips through photo after photo of a young woman with pretty eyes she doesn’t have and gentle hands that she will never understand.
“Do you know what it’s like to be named for the dead?” Fred chokes through sobs as he rushes past his mother. “Do you have any idea what it’s like to be named for someone who haunts us every day and every night? Can you imagine being named for someone you can never look like because of your skin?” Because Fred Weasley ties up his wild dark hair into a thick ponytail when it’s time to play Quidditch and sees deep brown eyes when he looks at his reflection. Because Fred is dark skinned like his mother and will never look like his namesake, and is he resented for that? Is it worse to look like the brother that his father lost or to not resemble someone he loved at all? Because, most days, Fred is already different than the rest of his cousins and friends. Fred loves to laugh and play the highest caliber of pranks, because Fred is a Weasley…but that is something that no one can physically see, and that’s what’s the most terrifying.
“I know what it’s like to be named for the dead,” Teddy tells them all at some point, his hands on their shoulders or pulling them into a tight hug. “I know what it’s like to remind the person you love of all who they’ve lost. How much it hurts.” Because Teddy Lupin is named for a man who was killed alone and frightened in the woods over twenty years ago. He is his mother when he decides he likes the color pink and his father when his eyes morph into an almond amber. Because he is an orphan and no different from Harry…and he can understand how their father feels, because he wishes to honor those who died for him, too. Because he knows he is nothing like Ted Tonks, and yet his name carries a piece of his grandfather with him and that’s why Grandmother can only call him “Teddy,” otherwise she’d burst into tears. Because Teddy Lupin lives in between Harry and George and their children - born into war and only knowing peace. And so Teddy understands exactly what it is to be named for the dead, and knows exactly why it is so important to do so.
And even as he tries to tell them all this, he feels hot tears running down his cheeks and wonders to his parents, who have never been there, “Do you know what it is to be named for the dead?”
“Vacations are rare for the Waynes” - Batmom x Batfam
Here’s a little collection of short stories about the Batfamily going to the beach/being in vacation ! I kinda just had ideas for tiny little snippets rather than a story that was a long one and made sense…it’s bad. Hope you’ll like it :
God bless Batwoman, Batgirl, Jim Gordon…And everyone who joined in helping the Batfamily over the years, because thanks to them, you, your husband, kids and beloved butler were FINALLY able to take some times off.
A few years ago, leaving Gotham for vacations would have been a big no-no for Bruce, and you always understood, you really did. Hell, you had trouble leaving the Bat computer behind…But ever since he got new allies that weren’t direct family, things got easier.
They all were able, since a long time now, to take at least one night off during the week and such. But actually full on holidays ? Oh that didn’t happen in…in…in forever !
The only holiday you went on with Bruce was without the kids, and it was for your Honeymoon. Three days. Three days of pure bliss (and lots of sex).
And now, the opportunity to be all together for A FULL WEEK came up !
It all started because Tim got injured pretty bad, but still wanted to go on patrol…and you lost your shit. You were always supportive of their nightly activities (though worried sick as well), and you were monitoring the bat computer almost every night, when you didn’t have “date night” with Bruce or “mother/son bonding time” with one of your boys !
You were really understanding, and you too wanted Gotham to be a safe place, having had the same kind of background than Bruce…But hell if you were going to let one of your babies go out in the streets while he was badly injured !
With your famous “Batmom Glare” and a stern voice, you told Tim :
-You’re not going. You’re taking some vacation my boy, to relax and be fully charged again. In fact, we’re all taking a vacation !
…It kinda just happened. You were mad, they didn’t want to make you angry (you were scary when angry), and it was true that…All of them wanted well deserved time off.
And it was decided. A week far away from the murkiness, grittiness, darkness that was Gotham, in the sunny Bahamas. Perfect.
Of course, Bruce made sure that coming back to the city fast was possible, and also made sure to brief all of the Batpeople on anything that could happen but…He also really wanted to go. He wasn’t getting any younger and though he’d never admit it your little burst of anger was a blessing for him too.
You all needed time away. Oh yes. And though you also made sure Gotham would be in safe hands (anyway, villains got pretty calm lately), you left without hesitation ! TO THE BAHAMAS !!
Requested Prompt: Can you do an imagine where tom has a gf who has really low self esteem and is really struggling with her confidence, and tom is there to help her realize that self-love is important? (@dropdeadrxses)
Thanks so much for this request! This is something that I’ve struggled with for a long time and have only recently overcome emotionally, but am still battling physically. If anyone ever needs support in any aspect of life, please know you can talk to me.
Warnings: reader struggling with self-esteem, self-loathing, self-depreciation, fluff
The Hollywood Reporter had just leaked photos from the photo shoot Tom did with his Homecoming co-star, Zendaya, and (Y/N) was curled up on Tom’s couch, eyes lingering over how stunning Tom’s new friend looked and mind running with scenarios of things that could have happened ‘behind the scenes.’ (Y/N) hated how easy it was for her to completely discredit herself, but in reality, what did she have to offer Tom or anyone for that matter?
She couldn’t help but notice how Tom’s shirt seemed to have a different number of buttons opened in various photos. Instantly, her mind went to thoughts of him cheating on her. Her chest tightened as she thought about what could have happened between the two of them. She knew that Tom was raised to be a gentleman and certainly distinguished himself from other guys their age, but the thought wouldn’t leave her mind. She was a no body and always would be. her disdain had nothing to do with the fact that Tom was a celebrity and she was a regular Joe, and it had nothing to do with the fact that Zendaya was a celebrity, she just didn’t know how anyone could see anything worth their time in her.
The soft pattering of Tom’s feet sounded as he made his way down the stairs and toward his girlfriend. “Hey, love,” he called out to her, “I was thinking we could go out to dinner tonight with everyone and I can show you off.” (Y/N) rolled onto her back, feeling the tension in her shoulder subside immediately. She clicked the screen of her phone off and dropped it onto the coffee table as Tom lifted her legs to sit beneath them.
“Why?” she asked without intending to.
“Why wouldn’t I?” he asked in return with a smile across his face as he rested his hands on her knee.
“Because you can be with like three models at the same time right now and you’re with me,” she sighed all too quickly.
“Why would you say that?” he asked, his voice ignorant of the emotions running through her head.
“Because it’s true,” she scoffed lightly. “You’re an easy ten and I’m like what, maybe a five on a good day?”
“How could you think you’re a five, (Y/N)?” he asked with a laugh in his voice, still not picking up on the fact that she was growing even more upset.
“Just forget about it,” she sighed while slipping her legs out from under his and making her way toward Tom’s room, which she occasionally stayed in. She dropped onto the bed, pulled the sheets up to her neck, and curled into a ball while lying on her side. it didn’t take long for Tom to make his way back toward his room and close the door behind him.
“What’s the matter, (Y/N)?” he asked while sliding into the bed beside her.
“Can you please just leave me alone?” she muttered.
“Only if you tell me what’s making you so sad,” Tom stated while rubbing his thumb across her shoulder.
“Why are you with me?” she mumbled through the sheets as a small tear slid out of the side of her eye.
“Because I love you,” he said as he moved his fingers through her hair.
“But why do you love me?” she pestered as another tear slid across her nose from the other eye. “What do you see in me that makes you think I’m worth anything? There’s nothing special about me,” her voice started to shake slightly as she continued to admit to him everything that stood between them. “In fact, there are a lot of things about me that you didn’t know about when we first got together. I know my baggage is something that you didn’t sign up for when you met me. Why do you continue to deal with me? How can you be so nice to me when all I’ve been is a burden to you? Here you are, asking to go out and have a great time and all I can think of is why you haven’t dumped me or cheated on me yet.”
Tom’s chest tightened at her words and he flopped onto his left side. He slid his left arm underneath (Y/N)’s head, draped his right over her waist and laced their fingers together. His words were lodged in his throat but he couldn’t bring himself to say them without having his voice crack from sorrow. Tom cleared his throat and traced his thumb along her hand before speaking. “You may not see anything special in yourself, (Y/N), but you’re wrong,” he said softly as the wind created from the ceiling fan brushed her hair across his cheek. “I love that you can make me laugh when I’m having the worst day ever, I love that when you’re scared I feel compelled to make you feel safe in my arms, I love the way your nose crinkles when you laugh. When you walk into a room, I can’t help but ignore everything else and focus on you because there’s a pounding in my heart that makes concentrating on anything else so incredibly difficult.” Slowly, (Y/N) rolled over to face Tom. He pushed away the tears rolling along her face with his thumb and smiled at her. “I love the way you look when you wake up in the morning with a weird mix of bed head and sex hair,” he said while ruffling her hair lightly. “I love how smart you are and how you’re constantly pushing me to be a better person so that I can be a better boyfriend, because I want to be the man that you deserve.” She couldn’t help the tears that overcame her at his words. “And when I asked you to be my girlfriend, I asked that of every part of you, even the one’s I didn’t know about yet.”
The tears streaking (Y/N)’s face were a blend of joy and sadness as Tom pressed his forehead against hers. “You deserve more than I can offer you,” she said with an empty tone in her voice.
“Believe me when I say that you are more than I deserve, (Y/N),” he said as he took her hands in his. “All you need to do is love yourself, love,” he said while pressing his lips against her head. “I will help you through this,” he promised and then placed his lips gently and passionately against hers, “because you don’t deserve to go another day without seeing and apppreciating all of the things about you that make me love you.”
Thank you for all of the wonderful comments on this outfit, I truly am thankful for all of my followers, I really feel this fun and flirty ensemble reflects the true me and isn’t that what clothes should be about?
I do love the ruffled sleeves on this semi sheer blouse. Much like my flared pants it helps balance out my upper half. It also adds a certain feminine flair and is so much fun to wear!
Just write a poly involving were-any-large-carnivores and it will be bought. You know this to be true.
Is this your way of telling me to write werewolf vampire porn? Cause if it is I’m 100% down with this.
Also now all I have in my head is a vampire and a werewolf who love each other despite clan feud wars and they meet in secret on moonlit nights. I could be the Shakespeare of our time.
“But soft, what light through yonder window breaks?” “It’s the dawn, Vlad, you idiot. Get away from the window you know you’re not supposed to be up at this hour.” “You have no poetry in your soul.” “At least I have a soul.” “You are so grumpy in the morning.” “NO SHIT, I’M A CREATURE OF THE NIGHT, VLAD.” “I love ruffling your fur.” “I SWEAR TO GOD I WILL SHED ON EVERYTHING YOU LOVE, COME AWAY FROM THE WINDOW RIGHT NOW”
Dean lightly hit Sam on the arm when he saw your mom walking over to them; you were holding her hand and toddling behind her. You were currently going through a phase where you always wanted to walk and if anyone tried to carry you, you’d throw a fit.
Unless Dean was the one carrying you; you were always happy in your dad’s arms.
You looked up and let go of your mother’s hand when you saw your father standing there. You bolted over to him where he happily picked you up and placed a kiss on your cheek, “Hey babygirl, you have a fun trip with Mommy?”
You nodded your head before wrapping your arms around Dean’s neck in an embrace, “Missed you Daddy.”
Dean rubbed your back, “I missed you too babygirl. Why don’t you go say hi to Uncle Sammy while I talk to Mommy.” Dean said as he handed you over to Sam who happily accepted you.
“We gotta talk.” Your mom said as she sent Sam a forced smile. Dean nodded his head, he was worried that your mom might try this, to take you away, but he wasn’t going to let it happen.
He wasn’t going to lose you.
“Look, I know what you’re gonna say.” Dean started as your mom and him stepped away from you, “And I get it. I was just as pissed- even more pissed then you were when those demons showed up. They’re gone though and I promise nothing will ever come back.”
“Dean, you promised that before and look what happened.” Your mom responded sadly. “I know you’re a great father and I know that you love Y/N with all your heart. She loves you just as much, it’s just-”
“It’s just what Y/M/N? You can’t take my daughter away from me. I won’t let you.” Dean said strongly.
“You can’t do anything about it Dean.” Your mom responded coldly, “Dean Winchester is dead according to the law.”
Dean stared at your mom with wide eyes, “You aren’t-you aren’t serious are you?”
“I’m sorry Dean but, it’s what’s best for Y/N.” Y/M/N replied.
“What’s best for Y/N is to be around her dad.”
“What’s best for Y/N is to grow up not worrying if a monster is going to jump out of her closet and take her because of who her father is.” Your mom said with venom in her voice.
Dean shook his head, “I’m not leaving town. I won’t. I’m not leaving her.”
“No. I’m not leaving. Please just-just sleep on it, give me a week. Let me show you how safe it’s going to be here now. Nothing can get her here.” Dean begged.
Letting out a sigh your mom took a moment to think before nodding her head. “Fine.”
“Fine? Okay? Okay. I promise Y/M/N everything is going to be fine. Tomorrow after work I’ll swing by and show you everything we’ve done to protect the house.” Dean said with a smile.
“Sounds good Dean. Y/N and I have to go. Being out of town for a week, lots to catch up on.” Your mom said in an almost nervous tone.
“Right, um tomorrow after I show you everything I’ll take her, let you catch up on things. Sound good?” Dean asked, happy about spending time with his little girl.
Your mom nodded her head before walking back to where Sam was happily tossing you in the air as you squealed with delight. “Say bye to Uncle Sammy Y/N.” Your mom told you.
Looking at your uncle you wrapped your arms around him, squeezing his neck before placing a sloppy kiss on his cheek, “Bye bye Unca Sammy.” You reached out for your father who took you and gave you a squeeze.
“Bye babygirl, I’ll see you and Mama tomorrow okay.” Dean stated. You nodded your head before puckering your lips for your dad to give you a kiss. He did before he placed you on the ground and ruffled your hair. “Love you sweetheart.” He called to you as you walked away with your mom. Turning back around you waved to your dad yelling back,
“I love you Daddy!”
That was the last time Dean heard those words from you.
