U.S. Marines and Sailors with the 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit participated in the kick-off event for Exercise Ssang Yong by sending amphibious assualt vehicles from the USS Harpers Ferry to Hwajinri beach in South Korea March 12,2016. Exercise Ssang Yong is a biennial combined amphibious exercise conducted by forward-deployed U.S. forces with the Republic of Korea Navy and Marine Corps, Australian Army and Royal New Zealand Army Forces in order to strengthen our interoperability and working relationships across a wide range of military operations - from disaster relief to complex expeditionary operations.

Waiouru turned it on for particpants of Exercise Sari Bair in Waiouru yesterday with sleet, wind and a smattering of snow. Sari Bair is the annual 1 (NZ) Bde combined arms live fire exercise. It is part of the JASCO BLACK series which involves 5th ANGLICO, US Marines and 16 Fd Regt. Our new soon-to-be Chief of Army BRIG Pete Kelly also popped in to visit the troops and see how the exercise was going.

Even the Kiwi’s facebook posts are in the same way they talk. lol

Since 1973, units of the Netherlands Marine Corps have formed part of the British 3 Commando Brigade during exercises and real conflict situations. Also, the 7th SBS NL troop will be placed under UK operational command as part of C Squadron, UK Special Boat Service. Together, these form the UK/NL Landing Force.

The Royal Marines Corps of Drums have broken the existing Guinness World Record for the longest group drum roll.

The existing record stood at 28 hours, 19 minutes and three seconds, with the new record extended to 64 hours.

The event was part of a year of celebrations for the Royal Marines who mark their 350th anniversary this year.

40 Royal Marines’ buglers took part in the record-breaking attempt. Each drummer played for 15 minutes at a time, drumming for a minimum of one and a half hours.
