“Ok, where are you now?” you ask, pressing the Bluetooth earpiece you’re using to talk to the rest of the guardians. Your eyes study Tooth’s globe as you look for the pink lights that show a child has lost a tooth.
“We just finished Shanghai.” you hear Jack reply.
“Ok, you and the others head to Japan. There are tons of teeth there.” you order. “Sandy, head north into Russia and spread some dreams. The lights up there are flickering.”
“He’s on his way.” Tooth says.
You nod and sigh as you wait for them to finish Japan. Listening to Jack and Bunny bicker on the other end, you smile. With the world is at stake, you know everything is gonna be alright if those two are still arguing.
Ever since Pitch took the fairies, you had been helping the guardians keep the kids believing. Easter was in two days, so you just needed to work hard until then.
You’re snapped out of your thoughts by the room growing colder, and not the comfortable kind of cold that you feel when Jack is around, but the kind of nervous cold you feel in a horror movie. Goosebumps travel up your arms, and you begin to feel uneasy.
You whirl around toward the voice to see a shadow slink behind one of the palace’s columns. It’s eerily quiet, and a couple of the elves you had brought with you from the Pole come and crowd around your feet.
Screaming, you jump away from the voice that was just behind you, and a silky voice cackles at your fear. “Such a pity that a pretty girl like you is working for them.”
Then you finally see the shadowy figure. “Pitch.” you whisper. By now, the guardians on the other end of the Bluetooth are wondering what’s going on. When they hear you say Pitch’s name, they know something’s wrong.
“Well, obviously introductions don’t need to be made, so let’s skip to the fun part.” Pitch says. And just as fast as you blink, he’s suddenly standing right in front of you. You scream at the sudden closeness and fall down as you try to scramble away, your earpiece falling out of your ear. The elves scamper away to hide.
The evil spirit wraps his sand around your body, lifting you into the air as you struggle against the bonds. Breaking free is impossible. You can only hope that the guardians are on their way.
“Yes, Miss (l/n), fear me. I can smell your fear.” Pitch says as the sand tightens around your body. Black spots take over your vision, and you can no longer tell what he’s talking about.
Finally, a flash of blue light appears out of the corner of your eye, and you drop to the ground, barely conscious. When you open your eyes again, you see all of the guardians and the elves staying over you with worried looks plastered on their faces.
“(y/n), are you alright?” Tooth asks, violet eyes blinking in concern.
You sit up slowly, with Jack’s hand on your back. “Fine.”
Bunny whirls on North. “I told you this was a bad idea. We shouldn’t have left her alone with Pitch out there!”
“Bunny, I’m fine-” you protest, but he jumps forward and takes hold of your arm, making you wince.
He gestures to the purple bruises left by Pitch’s sand. “This is not fine, sheila.”
“It’s only a bruise,” you say. “And I’m not gonna run away from this just because of one little run in with Pitch. Not when this could happen to every kid in the world.”
the Rise of the Guardians art book says that Tooth’s design was inspired by “half-bird, half-human gods of ancient Buddhist and Hindu cultures” and off kinnaris - bird-human characters found in Thai mythology, so I wondered why they made her skin so light if she was based off characters from these cultures. I wondered what she would have looked like with brown skin.
this was more of a colour palette experiment, but personally I do think the browns work with the teals and greens better. I still do like DWA’s interpretation of the Tooth Fairy as it’s nice to see a Tooth Fairy that isn’t a blonde girl in a big dress
