Hi, I was just curious why you like Rory with Logan more than Jess. She's a much worse person around Logan tbh.
Well, the events in Keg Max! are a major STOP for me. Jess didn’t care about getting Rory’s consent and didn’t stop when she wanted him too. He was focused on his own wants. I had something very similar happen to me except I wasn’t strong enough to push him off. Then the whole moment is basically used to get Jess motivated to go off to his spin-off and offscreen redemption land. It was barely about Rory at all. It all just makes me want to puke. I needed this to be an important story arc since they went there. As is I’m super happy that Rory hasn’t really had a lot of physical contact with Jess after that episode. And in the revival, they don’t really touch at all.
I still like Jess in scenes concerning or with Luke. Just not with Rory.
Rory is not a much worse person around Logan. I don’t think people see Rory’s flaws until after she sleeps with Dean. Or they forgive them because she’s young. But Rory’s Rory and has been since episode one. She was this close to giving up Chilton because Dean liked her. As soon as Jess comes, Rory spends months emotionally cheating on Dean, wrecks the car her Boyfriend gave her on a Joy Ride with Jess, misses her mom’s graduation because she skipped school to go to New York to see the Boy she was crushing on even though she had a boyfriend. Then She kisses Jess. Runs from her problems. And spends more months emotionally Cheating on her Boyfriend with the Guy who was his nemesis.
Rory liking some of the finer things in life is not something for her to be ashamed over (though she is sometimes}. And this liking is something that has been shown at least since season 1 episode 3. Sure she does steal the Boat with Logan but Mitchum had made it seem like all her dreams shouldn’t be her dreams. She needed control. She acted out. She ended up getting some punishment for it. Rory wasn’t one to get punished for stuff at least this was something. And it showed that Logan had Rory’s back even when she couldn’t be talked out of something bad. Acting out when Rory has frustration isn’t new for her either. She and Lorelai did egg Jess’s car after all…
And Rory running away to her grandparents when she has issues with Lorelai already was canon in s1 so that isn’t on Logan either. The things people accuse as caused by Logan is just part of Rory’s character. She’s amazing but flawed.
The reason I adore Rory and Logan is they make me happy watching them. Even when they are ripping my heart apart. They are cute and fun and have amazing chemistry. Rory has to actually make her own decisions and own her choices when she is with Logan. Logan says his mind but supports Rory’s choices. He makes sure Rory knows what she is getting herself into. He and Rory have this back and forth that is kind of like verbal pro-con listing. Sure they don’t talk about other romances and his family and that is their relationship’s most negative trait. If they could fix that, they would be perfect. If Logan’s “family life [wasn’t] different”, it would be a no-brainer that they were endgame. They fit. I wish she would talk with Luke about what it’s like to fit with your love but not their family. It would be very enlightening to her imo.
Rory and Logan are friends. Best friends in many ways. The same as Emily and Richard and Lorelai and Luke. They are there during the good and bad times. There to support, encourage and love.
Sorry for this being all over the place. I don’t think they are perfect but I love them. Warts and all.
“Your frat house is beside mine and one our room’s windows are across each other. One day you saw me choke thanks to a coconut cake my roommate baked me (I’m allergic), so you ran to my frat house and actually saved me, we started talking a lot.”
“My frat leader said I would only get in if I made their anti-social sibling go to a party. You actually went with me, but the n you had this crazy panic attack and ‘I’m so sorry, let me pay you a pizza to repay you’.”
“Epic Frat Battle: our frats dueled on a rap battle and when it was my turn to diss you, I just couldn’t stop rapping about your ’sweet butt’ or your ‘deep eyes’

You know, I have actually thought about this moment. A lot. What would Jess say to me I ever saw him again? I mean, he just took off, no note, no call, nothing, how could he explain that? And then a year goes by. No word, nothing, so he couldn’t possibly have a good excuse for that, right? I have imagined hundreds of different scenarios with a hundred different great last parting lines, and I have to tell you that I am actually very curious to see which way this is going to go.You wanted to talk, so talk. What do you have to say to me?
I have a lot of unpopular opinions about Gilmore Girls, which is totally fine, because fandom life would be boring if we were all in complete agreement, right? And I can honestly say that I’ve learned a lot from the people whose perspectives on the show differ from mine, sometimes even modifying my own viewpoints after reading a particularly insightful meta. Still, I’m a strange person who clings to some strange opinions about the show! I’ll share a few of them if y’all promise to be gentle ;)
A few of the main ones: I absolutely love the widely disliked Season 7 (due partly though not solely to how Rogan is written!), I don’t think Luke and Lorelai are very well-suited as a couple, I have more problems with Emily than most do, Rogan is not just my OTP of this show but one of my only true OTPs of all time, the Lorelai x Rory relationship will always mean more to me than any other parent/child relationship ever depicted, and I still and always love this show despite its flaws (many of which were on prominent display throughout the revival!)
But I’m starting to think my very most unpopular one is that I still love and relate to Rory Gilmore with all my heart, not just despite her many shortcomings but in some ways because of them. I still care about her and identify with her, and while I disagree with many of her choices (and many of Amy Sherman-Palladino’s choices, for that matter!), she still means more to me than almost any other fictional character. Many of her strengths, weaknesses, passions and struggles mirror my own. I care about her, I believe in her, and I connect to her. If anyone else wants to join me on the Rory Gilmore Defense Squad, we have plenty of vacancies! Just bring plenty of coffee, a good book, and some cheery optimism that Rory can and will become the happier and better woman we know she’s meant to be :)
Holy crap, that is a toughie! Thank goodness I’ve been making ebook copies of my favorites for my new Kobo. These are not in any order:
Horny Tears by Trogdor19: An AU take on the day after “Raincoats and Recipes,” and it’s hot as hell. Really, nothing beats Miss Patty telling Lorelai that in order to clear the fog from her head that Luke has to give her orgasms. Lots of them. But the fic also has some very raw, emotional moments between the Ls that gets to the heart of their insecurities, and it’s lovely.
Joining by netherfield: This one takes the aftermath of “Raincoats and Recipes” and goes in a completely different direction, and the result is really well done. Your heart just hurts for Luke and Lorelai, especially when Luke’s own fears paralyze him to the point where he can’t quite be there for Lorelai. But it’s done in a manner that’s actually in-character for him, and he doesn’t turn into the ass he became in late season 6 because you see where he’s coming from. Lorelai’s resilient spirit and Luke’s character growth really makes this story shine.
Defining All In by @jumpingcattlehockey: An absolutely lovely post-”Bon Voyage” story with the best proposal scene I’ve seen in GG fic, and an OC that is completely and utterly worthy of Rory. And JCH does a fantastic job in depicting the life of young journalists.
It’s All Coming Back to Me Now by deepfriedcake: The last chapter of this story is one of my go-to comfort fics. It’s Lorelai in the months after “Partings” and how she becomes the person she used to be once again. The last chapter with her and Luke together working through their issues is just gorgeous.
Cotton Candy by deepfriedcake: Set between seasons 2 and 3, Lorelai becomes a Pez dispenser. The outcome is hilarious and sexy.
Becoming Ava Gardner by @meags09: This story is a beautiful take on why Luke and Lorelai aren’t married by the time the revival starts. It points out that the Ls still aren’t quite ready to be together by “Bon Voyage,” and it’s a good take on how those cracks in their relationship split them up once again.
Mend on Wednesday by Once Upon a Whim: Really, this story had me from the moment it quoted “Little House in the Big Woods.” But it’s a lovely AU take on the second half of season 7 from “French Twist” through the period just before “Bon Voyage” and how an incident with Paul Anka cause Luke and Lorelai to start rebuilding their friendship. Cameos by an adorable G.G.
The Open Window by aliross33: This is one of the best Luke/Lorelai hookup fics I’ve ever read and actually one of the first GG fics I read to boot. Mia passes away during season 4 after Luke divorces Nicole, and the Ls fly out to California for her funeral. It’s a lovely insight into both their heads and their feelings toward Mia, and it’s beautifully complicated and sexy. The ending is just perfect.
The Last Full Measure by buckice: A post-”Partings” AU where a tragedy brings Lorelai back into Luke’s life. It’s an excellent study into how the road to reconciliation is rough, but also shows how dedicated Lorelai is to Luke. We see plenty of times how he’ll always be there for her, and this story shows how she will always be there for him as well.
A Week in the Life of New Lovers by sleepyzucchini: If you want lots and lots and lots of smut, this is the fic for you. It’s a look at the week following “Written in the Stars,” where Luke and Lorelai find crazy inventive ways to be together as much as possible. I read this story when I need inspiration for smut scenes. While the story is incomplete, it leaves off on a satisfying (pun intended) note, so feel free to wade into it.
There’s a few stories that I have left off here, but Separation Anxiety and its sequel Everything Old is New Again have also been huge influences on my GG work. Both stories together are a season 5 AU that makes me long that the series had gone in this direction. There is amazing character growth for Lorelai, Luke, Rory, Emily, and Richard as individuals and as a family. It does a far better job at integrating Luke into the wider Gilmore circle than the series does and gives Rory a far better year in Yale than she got on the series.
