i have kind of a mixed reaction for the great gatsby, bc on one hand i disrespect fitzgerald’s treatment of the women in his fiction - specifically daisy - writing her like a question mark and a symbol (i ofc know that’s a prominent role in literature, but in this case daisy’s whole arc is a glue between jay’s obsession between the past and the present, and the problematic idolization of her in a result to romantic memories to the reality of her shallow personality), but on the other hand it does acknowledge the patriarchal and misogynistic reality of women at the time. daisy hoping her daughter would grow up to be a ‘beautiful little fool’ does reveal her awareness of the politics and society around her, and her obligation to fall in line with that society. which, ‘kay, is an interesting character point.

Happy almost 24th birthday to my better half. I couldn’t ask for a more perfect boyfriend. He’s kind, smart, loving, driven, funny, and my strength. These past couple of months have been challenging for me to say the least, and I can’t even begin to express how grateful I am for this boy being here for me through it all, even if I stress about things that I can’t control and worry about things that I shouldn’t. I know I’m a pain in the ass, but he puts up with me and appreciates all the little things about me that I don’t always love.

This picture was taken on my birthday last year. I can’t wait to spoil Matt on his special day tomorrow. Here’s to more birthday festivities and memories! 💕🎂

Why is it so hard to let go?“
“The same reason why it’s so hard to get out of bed in the morning. You know you have to eventually get up, yet you stay and savor your last moments in it.

Meeting your soulmate is like walking into a house you’ve been in before - you will recognise the furniture, the pictures on the wall, the books on the shelves, the contents of drawers. You could find your way around in the dark if you had to.

How steep’d in Romanticism I am at present! For I have now read Wordsworth’s contributions to Lyrical Ballads; not only that, but I have also rather lovingly annotated my note-less copy of that delightful poem-book (in pencil, fear not). The final poem in the collection and the most famous alongside The Ancyent Marinere, entitled ‘Tintern Abbey’ for short, has brought to mind fresh memories of my own visit to that most atmospheric of monuments, that archetypal Romantic ruin tuck’d away in the intensely beautiful Wye Valley. It is a region whose dreamy picturesqueness is rarely found elsewhere in the country, perhaps in the world; when I visited it with my grandparents its thickly-forested slopes were dappled in vivid gold sunlight, and we were afforded a magnificent prospect of the ancient Abbey nestled by the merry river at its heart. The building itself has now been unclad of those masses of green ivy that one can see in the old watercolours and engravings, but it has nevertheless retained a curiously Romantic air that even borders on the Gothic in its oldness, its potential for phantom monks, its deep surrounding woods, its weathered lancets and its secluded setting. I feel fortunate to have strolled down its ruinous nave, to have leaned back my dreaming head to glimpse doves fluttering nervously in the glassless arches, to have even reclined upon the remains of a great column that once supported the umbrageous vaults of that church. The ruins have outlived many and will surpass more: but its stones will one day, inevitably, be reclaimed by the tendrils and vines of Nature — the grass will grow long and bloom, with no human hands to halt its progress, and the deer and the birds shall come out of the forest to make their homes among the young trees growing in the aisles.

Let us give a moment to the romantics and the dreamers. To those who sway in and out of life without really being there. To the girl who looks to the sky and falls in love with the moon. To the boy who sees stars in her eyes and flowers in her smile. To the road trips and memories that never happened. Let us give a moment to the rare stars that fall from the sky and walk among us as humans.
