Rome my love :) the most unfogettable and exciting of all my travels so far :) It was the perfect combination of amazing Couchsurfing hosts, smiling and helpful strangers around, magical places, tasty food and excellent weather. I fell in love with the city right after leaving the plane in Ciampino airport. I still remember  the sun setting beyond the pini trees and the warm gust of wind on my face (in October’s evening there was 21 degrees while in Kraków 10 during the day).

I’m sure everyone knows this place :) St. Peter’s Basilica, which features the Dome of Michelangelo and his sculpture Pietà, can accommodate up to 20 000 people. It is neither the Pope’s official seat nor first in rank among the Major Basilicas of Rome, but due to its size it is certainly the Pope’s principal church in terms of use. When I entered the Basilica for the first time I was amazed by its size and grace. It is unbelievably huge, perfectly decorated, with so many real pieces of art inside. Crowded all the time, so to see all the parts of Basilica you have to stand in the queues, but the view from the dome is unforgettable :)

Castel Sant'Angelo is one of the most famous landmarks of Rome. Now it is a museum, but it used to be a fortress defending the northern entrance of the city. It was one of the first sites I have visited during my stay. My Couchsurfing host Mario told me about the fortified corridor connecting the Castle to the Vatican Palace, which was to be used by popes as an escape route in case of danger. The sculptures of Angels on the bridge are amazing. Very romantic at night, especially when buskers are around :)

When you are travelling alone, it is a simple human desire to chat with someone for a while. I am crazy about taking pictures so I was quite busy with my hobby, but I am also a person who cannot live without others. Whenever I had a chance, I had a chat with Italians or foreigners. I remeber one man telling me the story of his family and his tiny dog he had just taken for a walk. His name was Brenno which he told me meant ‘Warrior’ :) picture was taken in Ara Pacis Museum.
