roles of women

The Bold Type: Everyone’s a Feminist

Okay I love the Kat/Adena storyline on The Bold Type, but I have to say, as a “straight” woman myself, watching the other two women in relationships with men that support and encourage them and step aside to let them shine is so fucking amazing and refreshing to see on my TV screen like finally a show that reverses stereotypical gender roles and claims to empower women and actually follows through with it like that seriously makes me soar

Also? Jacqueline and Lauren being such badass bosses? Huge bonus

What is The a Bold Type about?

It’s soooo good. It’s about three friends who work for a magazine and how they support each other and love each other through all their transitions and life choices. There’s woc (one girl is black and one girl is Muslim and the actress is Iranian), LGBT representation, women supporting women, discussion about really important topics that aren’t normally discussed openly (women who can’t have orgasms, following your “crazy dreams”, sexism and misogyny, etc.), great music, decent male roles, strong women in powerful positions who aren’t just the stone cold bitch that they’re normally portrayed as…. I could keep going. Honestly, it’s refreshing and funny and sweet and sad and you should definitely be watching it.

@harnaamkaur and I are tired of your shitty gender roles. We shot this series for @theparallelmag to challenge what people are “allowed to do.” She has a beard due to a medical condition. She loves it and kills it! As for me, I just want to wear a skirt sometimes cuz I think it can look dope! The fact we socially relegate these fashion and styling attributes to certain genders just seems so frivolous and dangerous when you consider how aggressive people get when their confronted with these things that don’t fit into their understanding of how the world works. At the end of the day, just be yourself and love yourself and don’t judge others who are living that way. Think outside the parameters that we are lead to believe are absolute and see the world as it is! Much love to all of you!

not to start any drama but once you realize that you do not need men to be happy/complete/sexually satisfied & that their roles in the lives of women have been greatly exaggerated, you open your life up to a quiet and peaceful independence. i appreciate that you can want men and love them, but you don’t need them for a single solitary thing, not even to become a mother, and once i understood that i added 548 years to my life expectancy
