Added a shiny new thumbnail to my Frank makeup tutorial! Please spread this around the interwebs, because there are SO MANY inaccurate tutorials that have waaaaaaay more views than this one!

Raise a glass wherever you are in honor of the great Christopher Lee, who was the Narrator in a 1995 cast album of The Rocky Horror Show and in the 1996 computer video game of Rocky Horror. May he rest in peace.

Magenta (Patricia Quinn), Dr. Frank N. Furter (Tim Curry), and Columbia (Nell Campbell), “The Rocky Horror Picture Show.” On August 14, 1975, forty-one years ago today, “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” premiered at the Rialto Theater in London; the movie made its American debut the following month at the UA Westwood Theater in Los Angeles. While “Rocky Horror” had some success in Los Angeles, it was a failure at other box offices and 20th Century Fox soon pulled it from its limited distribution. In major cities, however, committed groups of fans continued to go and see the film even as its availability dwindled. And, on April Fools’ Day 1976, the Waverly Theater in Greenwich Village (now the IFC Center) answered calls from local fans and showed “Rocky Horror” at midnight; it was the beginning of the longest-running theatrical release in film history. For many LGBTs, and especially those too young or too isolated to experience the gay bar scene, a midnight showing of “Rocky Horror”–with its overt homoeroticism (“I Can Make You A Man”), gender-fluidity (“Sweet Transvestite”), journey of self-acceptance (“Don’t Dream It, Be It”), audience participation (“Time Warp”), and general camp–was an opportunity to be among friends, family, potential conquests, and community for a brief few hours. And, even today, a midnight showing “rose tints [the] world and keeps [us] safe from [our] trouble and pain.” #lgbthistory #lgbtherstory #lgbttheirstory #lgbtpride #QueerHistoryMatters #HavePrideInHistory #RockyHorrorPictureShow #DontDreamItBeIt
