Women's HERstory Month

In honor of woman’s history month I’d like to take a moment to thank the women who came before me, the women standing beside me and the women who will carry the torch of our future.

I’ve been in Halestorm for nearly 20 years. If it wasn’t for our “Fore Mothers of Rock n Roll” who came before me, I may not be where I am today. They showed me that it was possible, and that even with all the odds against you, and obstacles in your way… you can achieve your dream. They did not give in, they did not quit, they did not wither. They were a powerful force in inspiring and encouraging me to go after My dream.

It’s a reminder, ladies, of how important it is for us to encourage one another. We must be examples, and show our fellow femmes that society’s definition of a “woman” is false. To be a Woman is not One idea of what a woman should be. We are the sum of many women who were brave enough to take risks, carve paths, stand out and be unapologetically themselves. All the great women of history were not the ones who followed the rules, or kept their eyes to the ground. No, all the great women thinkers, inventers, artists and leaders were the woman who broke from the chain, and swam against the current.

As girls we are taught from an early age that beauty is our number one priority. We play with dolls we will never look like, we have make up kits and sticker earrings, glitter and pink. We wear dresses, are told not to get dirty, to be perfect, to be seen and not heard. We learn that “pretty” equals acceptance and love.

We are taught as young ladies that the world is a scary place, and that we should get married and settle down lest we die alone. And be sure to have a few kids before it’s too late and your ticking time bomb of a body blows up! And we need products! Products to grow our hair, soften our face, melt the fat, plump our lips, grow our tits, erase scars and stretch marks, make our asses bigger or smaller… because without all these things we are undesirable and therefore not worthy of love.

As we begin to grow, ask questions, and find ourselves as women, everything that makes us happy is somehow wrong…
They say, Be independent, but know your place. Make money, but not too much. Be smart, but not too smart, be strong but not too strong or you’ll be a bitch. If you like sex, you’re a slut, if you drink you’re a lush, if you cut your hair your a dyke, if you like rock n roll and metal obviously you’re on a path to hell. We are told that to be women we need to be the Un-be-able, and because societies view of women is such an unattainable goal… inevitably every women loses.

Before I go on, I must be clear that This post is not about a double standard. This is Not about boys vs girls. Because our boys are taught some pretty warped things too about what it means to be a “man”. This post is about the the history of women, battling social “standards” and the evolution of women as we move forward.

I stand on my meager platform, as a women I have fought to proudly do what I love everyday, I am living proof that it is possible and I am in a rare position to encourage… and empower.
So, Let’s empower, encourage and teach our girls to be strong, to be smart, to be independent, to ask questions, to be tolerant, to be kind, to be fierce, to love, be passionate and to dream. Show them that their beauty lies within their individuality and doing things that truly make them happy. Lets wear sizes that fit us, not try to fit into sizes that society tells us we should be fitting into. Let’s Get dirty, climb trees, be artists, mechanics, scientists, rockstars and presidents. Let’s stop listening to all the things we are supposed to be and truly start being who we are.
We are Women

So Megamind is a bit of a show-off, a rockstar and a mad scientist with an audience. Given his coloring and Minion, it’s easy to picture his people as semi-aquatic.

Have you ever heard songs underwater?

Specifically, the heavy bass notes you feel in your bones and the high notes which warble and dance their merry way to your ears?

I was just thinking about Back in Black and Highway to Hell, and the theatrical intimidation of those scenes, and I wondered if Megamind was subconsciously recreating a part of his culture.

(The police at City Hall, shaking like leaves in the wind and parting for the conqueror, like this is a king and everyone knows it - just look at him dance his way up the steps)

(Hal, once personally targeted, angered beyond reason and drawn away from Roxanne)

(Megamind, standing in a fountain giddy with success, and swarmed by cheering “positive feedback”)

I wonder if it’s partly the cultivated hive-mind of Metrocity, and partly…not so much telepathy as it is an energy. Like you’d find in a concert, or a play, where your emotions are pulled and tugged at will, Megamind comes from a people who use what they’ve built with their hands and the songs with the required tone and pitch to direct the crowds.

Not all sirens sing, after all.

An ABO verse where Omegas and Alphas are pretty rare and Omegas are at the top of social status with Betas a bit below and the Alphas are at the bottom.

As soon as someone presents as an Alpha, they are put on suppressants because it is believed that Alphas can’t control their base instincts and are a danger to themselves and others.

Those who present as Omegas are held with high regard as they have the respected ability of reproduction and continuing and leading the species.

When an omega comes of age, they choose an Alpha to become their mate and to continue their lineage. Some Omegas even choose more than one Alpha.

Once an Alpha is chosen, they become the Omega’s property and are collared with their Omega’s family crest on it.

Every Alpha hopes to be chosen by an Omega. They only gain a bit of respect when they are collared and they no longer have to be on the suppressants. Uncollared Alphas are shunned by society and treated as menaces.

There are studies and rights groups trying to prove that the way society treats Alphas is wrong. That all the statuses should be equal. The movements are slow going though.

Just something I’ve been thinking about and how it would change things in my ninja ship party ABO verse.

Anyone can use this if you want.

I present to you Iron Legion V2. Nothing could possibly go wrong with these Drones.
Ive had one AI go rogue, so I made sure this time the Drones have biological infused systems. I dont see how any alien lifeform from another dimension could mutate them into hostile giant monster robots.

Newty and the Brain

The thing is, I don’t think the Precursors got to Newt the first time he Drifted with a Kaiju brain. I think they must’ve been rather surprised to suddenly find a random puny human entering their hivemind, and just concentrated on harvesting as much information as they could get from him, without him noticing.

And then it happened again, only this time there were two puny humans, and by looking into both of their minds the Precursors figured out how to use Newt’s emotions against him.

They saw how lonely he was, how he felt like no one appreciated his work, and how he thought that the only person he had ever been in love with was in no way interested in him.

And they saw that Hermann did love him, and that he didn’t know what to do about it except to hope that Newt would one day notice this.

The Precursors saw two brilliant minds that, when aligned with each other, and the firepower of the Jaegers, would be able to not just stop the Kaijus and close the Breach, but to destroy the Precursors and their world altogether. The Precursors saw this, and immediately took action.

They took all of Newt’s fears and insecurities and longing, and turned it against him. They planted ideas in the back of his mind, whispering in the night about how he’d be the greatest rockstar scientist of all time if he could only understand the Precursors a bit more. If he could only Drift with them a bit more. They told him that Hermann would never understand, that he didn’t care enough to even try to see things from Newt’s point of view. They led him to a Kaiju hindbrain that was intact enough to Drift with, and then they added to Newt’s feelings of rejection and resentment when Hermann told him to just let it rot.

It took years before Newt realised that he was not alone in his head, even outside the Drift, and by then it was too late.

He found himself at a new job, in a new city, far away from anyone he’d ever known. Sometimes there were gaps in his memories, minutes and hours and whole days when he couldn’t tell what he’d been doing, but his new, ridiculously strict boss never seemed to think anything was amiss, so he assumed he just kept working as usual. He assumed that Drifting with a Kaiju brain on the regular was bound to have some long-term effects that no one had had the chance to discover before.

But Alice was so good to him. She made him feel like he was worth something, like he was the smartest person in the room at any given moment. She made him feel loved, like no one ever had before.

And if she sometimes sounded a bit like Hermann, well, that was just wishful thinking, wasn’t it?

Here are some words you usually don’t find in the same sentence: rocket science, orgies, jet propulsion, and the occult. Believe it or not, the beginning of modern rocket science wasn’t helmed by some nerds in a laboratory, but by a group of rockstar scientists who blew stuff up by day and did drugs and animal sacrifices at night. Jack Parsons was the leader, and in his short life he fought with L. Ron Hubbard over women, led a branch of an occultist religion and founded the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena.

THIS WEEK: Parsons is just one of the many consequential people we discuss on the podcast who shaped the modern era, but had life stories that you wouldn’t believe. Jack O'Brien and Michael Swaim are joined by comedian and host of ‘Paranormal You & Me’ Ryan Singer to delve into the life and beliefs of Parsons, and discuss others such as George Washington’s femme fatale superspy and the Russian officer who prevented the end of the world.
