OH YEAH IT’S CALLED

Fly?

Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III was woken by a firm nudge in the ribs. He moaned in return, waving whoever had done so away as he turned and winced against a day so early it was still night. Conscientious and polite, a purr was given in return as he was more carefully nudged him in the stomach.
“Do we have to do this every morning?” Hiccup sighed, pulling the fur covers over his head.
“Apparently so.”
“Aah! What the-” Hiccup sprung hurriedly out of bed, landing on his one good foot and awkwardly falling onto the iron and wood that replaced his missing other. Looking back where he’d come, he found Toothless sitting at attention by the foot of the bed, ears pricked with an eager shake of his winged shoulders. “Fly?” he was asking eagerly, with the blink of round eyes and flick of a tail.
Hiccup frowned, pointing at his friend with an awkward and confused squint. “Toothless… what?”
“It was me, genius.”
The young Viking turned to where his friend sat idly atop Toothless’s bed. He hadn’t seen the straight blonde hair and dashing blue eyes in the shadow of the day.
“Astrid, what-” He sighed, running his fingers through his hair. “You scared me.”
“I like the braids.” Astrid replied, ignoring him. She turned her hands over, checking her nails like she cared.
Hiccup reached back and rubbed a tiny braid between his fingers. “There’s, ah, only a few.” He smiled, pressing his lips together.
“Who did them for you?” She inquired evenly.
“Uh, my dad, actually.” he replied thoughtfully.
Astrid smiled to herself absently, not looking up at him once. “Is that so?”
“Astrid,” the boy began, walking over to Toothless and scratching him behind the ears. “What are you doing here?”
Toothless nudged under his arm, purring at him. “Fly?
“I just came for the wake-up call.” she replied, standing and trodding down the stairs. “Don’t be late to training.” she continued, the smile clear in her voice as her blonde hair disappeared down the wooden steps.
And with that she was gone.
Hiccup fell back over the bed, his legs hanging over the frame at the foot. Sighing, he looked up at his dragon.
“Did you invite her?” He asked accusingly.
Toothless looked over at him, eyes wide and curious, asking him, please, “Fly?
“The braids. That’s what she likes. No, not the suit, not the new moves, not me. She likes the braids.” he sighed, fed up.
Toothless grinned that telltale crooked smile that everyone knew and loved.
“So,” Hiccup sat up, rubbing his friend’s head. “You wanna fly?”
