Today I’m chatting to you guys about being nice. Especially when it comes to the internet. There’s been a lot of talk around the subject since some more high profile bloggers and Youtubers have touched upon it, so I thought I’d give my two cents on the subject. So, before you send anon hate or comment something mean on a Youtube video, watch this video and think before you write it.

Evening Epiphany

Confession alert! I haven’t been to the gym in over a month. *slaps the back of my hand*

I’ve been keeping up with regular yoga and I’ve been eating fairly healthy, but anything as far as cardio goes has been a little quiet since my 5k. I (luckily) haven’t gained any weight. Or at least I don’t think I have, I don’t weigh myself anymore. But it’s not noticeable, at least!

There’s one thing I’ve noticed since I’ve not gone to the gym and I’ve actually found it a little strange. I haven’t felt guilty. Usually, if I go through a period of not going then I feel guilty about it and get quite down in the dumps about my progress, but recently I’ve not felt that at all and I think I know why.

I like myself.

*gasp* You… like yourself?? How you are??

I know, it’s a rare thing to find nowadays! But yes. I like myself.

Now it’s time for a story. A few weeks ago I was shopping online for holiday clothes and looking at bikinis. I can’t remember the last time I wore a bikini (partly because of confidence and partly because I had an operation when I was 14 and as a result have a rather large scar around my middle that wasn’t allowed to be in the sun for a while). When I was looking at all of these bikinis I just felt sad. The women modelling them were so beautiful with their washboard stomachs and toned thighs and I just knew that unfortunately none of the bikinis would magically make me look like that. I stopped shopping and went into a bit of a slump about myself.

(Now let me get one thing straight, I am by NO means fat. I am a UK size 10-12 and there’s no problem with that! Yes, my thighs touch. No, I don’t have a flat stomach. Yes, I have cellulite and stretch marks. So what!)

After getting sick of being sad, I asked myself what about it made me sad? Was it that the models were thinner than me? Was it that I wouldn’t feel comfortable? Why wouldn’t I feel comfortable? I came to the conclusion that the reason I felt sad was because I was worried what other people would think of me if I went outside in a bikini. This had nothing to do with me, it was about other people that I probably didn’t even know.

Do you even realise how stupid that sounds? “I won’t wear something I like because somebody I know might think I look awful.”

It’s a ridiculous situation that the world has got into. Men and women all over the world covering up because they are worried about what other people will think.

Well I say, who cares. Who actually cares what other people think of you? Why would you waste your time worrying about somebody else’s opinion of you. Especially if it isn’t a nice one. The only opinion that matters is your own. If you think you look fab then you look mother-flipping fab. Just think how much more we would enjoy ourselves if we were immune to the opinions of others.

Let’s try a little something. If you don’t want to wear/do something then follow these steps:

  1. Why don’t you want do do/wear it?
  2. If it is because you’re scared what others will think/say then why do you care what they think/say? (You can’t say ‘I just do!’)
  3. I bet you can’t think of a good reason.

So you buy that bikini. Wear those shorts. Give a big 'fuck you’ to anyone who says you aren’t amazing, because you are. Every single one of you.

I am making a vow to myself. I am now working on my health for me, nobody else. I love myself whatever shape, size and condition my body is in. When I get back to the gym it will be to get healthy, not to get thin. I’m doing this for me!

I’m going to be starting a YouTube series where I chat with you guys about anything and everything, and I think my first one is going to be about happiness and mental well being. I’m hoping to upload it on Wednesday/Thursday this week, so make sure you subscribe to my channel so you don’t miss it! If you have any ideas of what I could call the segment, then let me know in the comments below! Or you can tweet me or send me a message on Tumblr.

Love yourselves. Because if you don’t love yourself, then who else will?

I love makeup. I used to see it as something to hide or change parts of me I didn’t like, but now I see it as a way to experiment and have fun. If I had more money, all of my makeup would be Mac, Nars, Benefit and Clinique but alas I’m skint. But I manage to make do pretty well I think! So here’s a glimpse at what essentials I have in my makeup bag!
