OMINOUS! The past truly has a funny way of catching up to you and revealing itself. When psychologist Peter Bower’s(Adrien Brody) life is thrown into turmoil when he discovers that the patients he has been seeing are ghosts. Risking his own sanity, Peter delves into his past to uncover a terrifying secret which only he can put right. Even though the premise is somewhat of a carbon copy of other movies meshed together, it works in conveying its chilling and eerie feeling. Backtrack finds a way of taking its thrilling mystery to engage the audience, especially during 2/3 of the movie. That’s because the movie works best because of Adrien’s performance, as it is so haunting, he pulls you into his depressive state of mind and with the combination of the movie’s gloomy atmospheric tone, you’re able to get into it. As the details of the story unfolds, you find yourself mesmerize of how it all will come together. The movie’s intimate vibe proves even better as the ghosts appear before Peter, giving the sheer frightening look on Adrien’s more nuance, but the obligatory jump scares, which you can already see, just feels a bit cheap, as you can tell its use is to try to boost the audience, could’ve done without them. This isn’t really that bad of a B-movie, as the tightness of it seem well put together, except the ending that may seem a little disconnective from the whole movie, but it still manages to work. Doesn’t matter the role he’s given, Adrien Brody comes to work and gives a 100% and here is no different. It’s truly a shame when a talent such as Adrien Brody gets downgraded to movies that seem like side projects. Seems it’s true what they say, just cause you win the ‘Oscar’, isn’t a guarantee that your career will be on fire. Hopefully one day he’ll be able to find that big screen role that merits his talents again, but until then you can find solace in a job well done by him here. 👍🏾 WORTH IT 👍🏾 NOTHING HAUNTS LIKE THE PAST #Backtrack #Backtrack2016 #AdrienBrody #SamNeill #RobinMcLeavy #MichaelPetroni Released: January 29, 2016
