ro in japan

Shibori summer kimono. Taisho to very early Showa (1912-1930), Japan.  The Kimono Gallery. A sheer ro hitoe kimono with all motifs constructed utilizing the shibori (tie-dye) technique. Our assessment is that the variations in color in the shibori - for example some yellowish areas - are intentional and are attributes to the total aesthetic. The shibori work on this kimono is exceptionally intricate, and must have been accomplished by a gifted craftsman.

The signs as Wizarding schools

(Mah - hoot - o - koh - ro)

Location: Japan

The ornate and exquisite palace of Mahoutokoro is made of mutton-fat jade, and stands on the topmost point of the ‘uninhabited’ (or so Muggles think) Volcanic island of Minami Iwo Jima.

Cancer, Aquarius

(Wag - a - doo)

Location: Africa

The only address ever given is ‘Mountains of the Moon’; visitors speak of a stunning edifice carved out of the mountainside and shrouded in mist, so that it sometimes appears simply to float in mid-air.

Leo, Capricorn

(Cass - tell - o - broo - shoo)

Location: Brazil

Castelobruxo is an imposing square edifice of golden rock, often compared to a temple. Both building and grounds are protected by the Caipora, small and furry spirit-beings who are extraordinarily mischievous and tricky, and who emerge under cover of night to watch over the students and the creatures who live in the forest.

Sagittarius, Gemini

Beauxbatons Academy of Magic

(Bo - batton)

Location: Somewhere in the Pyrenees

It is said that the stunning castle and grounds of this prestigious school were part-funded by alchemist gold, for Nicolas and Perenelle Flamel met at Beauxbatons in their youth, and a magnificent fountain in the middle of the school’s park, believed to have healing and beautifying properties, is named for them.

Libra, Pisces

Durmstrang Institute

(Doorm - strang)

Location: Believed to be situated in the far north of Europe

Visitors, who must comply with memory charms to erase their knowledge of how they got there, speak of vast, sprawling grounds with many stunning views, not least of the great, dark, spectral ship that is moored on a mountain lake behind the school, from which students dive in summertime.

Aries, Scorpio

Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry

(Hog - warts)

Hogwarts Castle is a large, seven-storey high building supported by magic, with a hundred and forty two staircases throughout its many towers and turrets and very deep dungeons. The castle was built in the late Early Middle Ages by a wizard architect and the four most celebrated wizards of the age: Godric Gryffindor, Helga Hufflepuff, Rowena Ravenclaw and Salazar Slytherin.

Virgo, Taurus

A fine ‘Ro” sheer summer silk “miyamairi” kimono, one utilized to drape over a one-month old baby boy during rite of passage at a Shinto Shrine. Taisho Period (1911-1927), Japan.  The Kimono Gallery.  This kimono features the rare ocean scene many flying seagulls. The Shinto religion regards the white seagull as being more spiritual and therefore closer to ‘kami’ than many other parts of Nature. Noteworthy is the fact that the Shinto Kabushima Shrine of the Hachinohe district serves as a habitat for forty thousand seagulls. Hachinohe is located in the flatlands on the east coast of Aomori prefecture, on the northern edge of Japans main island, facing the Pacific Ocean.

anonymous asked:

Hey, can I have centaur china and japan hugging?

i made them qilins c:

the qilin/kirin appears in a lot of east asian mythology, including chinese and japanese, with regional and historical variants, and is generally a dragon-like hooved animal. from the quick bit of research i did, the japanese qilin is more deer-like, and the qing-era chinese qilin is more horse-like
