rms maloja

Officers of the Peninsular and Oriental Steam Navigation Company, otherwise known as P&O, aboard the RMS Maloja, January 1930. The officer in the wicker chair is the vessel’s Captain, known as a Commander in P&O parlance.

Maloja herself would be pressed into service as an Armed Merchant Cruiser (AMC) at the outbreak of war in 1939, and later converted to a troopship, in which role she saw out the war safely.
