rip-matthew

13 years ago today Matthew Shepard (Dec. 1, 1976 - Oct. 12, 1998) died in the hospital after being beaten and tied to a fence for being gay.

Rest in Peace Matthew. <3

We have come a long way since then but there is still so much more that needs to be done.

Today I will be protesting the drastic decline in a safe feeling for LGBT+ students on my university campus. Between a hate motivated physical assault, the verbal abuse of a student in a master’s program, a student being followed and intimidated by a group of males, and everything else that is going on throughout the world, we much stand up for ourselves.

Love is far more powerful than hate and we cannot allow hatred and intolerance to win out. We will stand strong. We will stand together. And we will honor the memory of Matthew and all others who have died or taken their own life due to hatred and intolerance.

Always remember that you are loved, and that someone is here to support you <3

Love it or hate it, “Downton Abbey” is back, and we have some suggestions for a drinking game you can play while watching.

Take a drink every time:

  • A character whose defining character traits are virtue, innocence and/or kindness dies.

Kind of an unnecessary instruction, as everyone is already drinking at this point. Am I right?

Today, I took part in a regional round of English Olympiad and one of the judges looked exactly like Matthew (and Chris). It was both pain and pleasure to watch him - it really hurt to see Matthew’s ‘twin’ becuase it reminded me of the Thing. But… he had an amazing British accent! So all the time I was like OMG Matthew, OMG his accent! (Yes, I love British accent…)

Okay, so I’m a little annoyed and i feel bad for it

A One Direction fan died after collapsing with no warning at a bus stop and because she was a 1D fan who ran a fan account on twitter she’s had multiple news reports written and this whole thing on twitter for her

but a boy I went to school with, who was apparently in line to become a top footballer, just collapsed during a football game at the beginning of the week and died and nothing was written for him, publicly anyway

and I just hate that society has gotten to the point where it can only be bothered to talk about the stuff that is most likely to get them publicity instead of talking equality about all the things that happen

and i just, urgh, I HATE IT

Last night I had a dream I was a housemaid at Downton Abbey. The house had severely downsized (probably because Robert lost most of it in a poker game) so it was just me and Patmore. Then O'Brien came back from India and tried to get me fired. But the best part of the dream was that Matthew was still alive, and the show was still good.

Here's my Downton Abbey rant.

So it’s been about a half hour since the season 3 finale of Downton Abbey ended. And now I’m pretty much at the point where I’ve bypassed being upset - now I’m just kinda pissed.

So I’m all for plot twists and cliff hangers, but this wasn’t even that. It was just a “OH SO YOUR FAVORITE CHARACTER IS DEAD AND NO ONE KNOWS ANYTHING ABOUT IT AND WE’RE JUST GOING TO CUT IT HERE AND MAKE YOU WAIT A YEAR TO EVEN FIND OUT WHAT EVERYONE’S REACTIONS ARE”. I know I’m no TV critic or whatever, but I think that was a really bad way to end it for this year. Because now everyone is just sitting there either upset or angry and we’re going to sit here for another YEAR with the same emotions. If it was a more minor character they might be able to get away with it, but with that major a character, I don’t think it was a good move. I may be biased though, because he was my favorite character.

I’m pretty much just sitting here like
