[Dave] Brockie’s music with GWAR didn’t so much touch on taboo subjects as wallow in them like pigs in filth. Bringing a refreshing sense of levity to heavy metal at a time when the genre was awash in negativity and self-importance, GWAR may have seemed like a joke, but the group’s trajectory over the last quarter-century has been extraordinary.
I’ve been trying to sleep since like, midnight, and just couldn’t. I guess now I know why, there’s been a disturbance in the force. Dave Brockie, the absolute genius mastermind behind GWAR has passed away. I can’t even begin to put into words how much of an impact this man has had on mine, as well as I’m sure all of your lives(whether you realize it or not). To one of the greatest creative minds of the past 50 years, you are fucking missed and no one will ever compare.
I just found out earlier today that Dave Brockie ‘Oderus Urungus’, the lead singer of Gwar passed away. Talk about shitty news… he was one of a kind. The rock world has lost a legend. You will be missed. RIP Dave…
The Gwar-B-Q 2014 was this past weekend, and a ton of fans and friends descended upon the diphtheria strewn waters of Hadad’s to say their final goodbyes to one Dave Brockie, aka Oderus Urungus of Gwar.
Craig Zirpolo, Charlie Couch and Mackenzie Werner have quickly and masterfully produced this piece behind the event. If you get a little misty, it just means that you still feel things.
There have been an outpour of posts devoted to the memory of Dave Brockie, whose imagination inspired many through music, art and a unique stage show. For those of you who weren’t fortunate enough to get peed on at a GWAR show, see what your fellow Tumblrers have to say.
RIP Dave Brockie, a.k.a. Oderus Urungus, frontman of GWAR.
