1st Day of Lunar New Year, I feel blessed to Hike to Taktsang (Tiger’s Nest) Monastery. Taktsang Monastery is built in 8th Century by Guru Rimpoche and located at 2980meters above sea level. Taktsang Monastery is believed and respected as one of the holy Buddhist site and one of the National Treasure of Bhutan. It’s a must visit when you are traveling in Bhutan. #bhutan #taktsang #tigernest #paro #guru #rimpoche (at Paro Taktsang)

This guy smoking (presumably after sex) was Chögyam Trungpa, one of the most influential teachers of Tibetan Buddhism. He’s also been a counterculture icon and founder of Naropa university, where you could get Ginsberg and Burroughs teaching you poetry and literature. Regardless of his sometimes controversial figure, he was highly regarded by many senior lamas.

His book “Shambhala, the sacred path of the warrior” is a little masterpiece that keeps on inspiring seekers around the world way after his death. Some quotes from the book to explain what it’s all about:

“The key to warriorship and the first principle of Shambhala vision is not being afraid of who you are (…) When we are afraid of ourselves and afraid of the seeming threat the world presents, then we become extremely selfish. We want to build our own little nests, our own cocoons, so that we can live by ourselves in a secure way (…) The premise of Shambhala vision is that, in order to establish an enlightened society for others, we need to discover what inherently we have to offer the world. So, to begin with, we should make an effort to examine our own experience, in order to see what it contains that is of value in helping ourselves and others to uplift their existence.”

Definitely a reading I recommend.

Happy birthday Guru Rimpoche. May you bless me with the strength to be a bigger person even if it goes against my self esteem. I may not always light butter lamps and visit lhakhangs but i try to be good to people. But over time I will learn to strike a balance and understand somethings that doesn’t make sense to me right now. But I will always believe in you. I saw this on my Facebook feed , I don’t know whose work it is but I d love to credit you on this. This would be a really good idea for a comic strip so that kids and youngsters can see things in a much more animated light. Our very own Bhutanese super hero :)

Reason tells me I am nothing. Love tells me I am everything. Between these poles, my life unfolds.
—  Kalu Rimpoche, Tibetan Buddhist Teacher

EARLY MORNING WORDS FROM CHÖGYAM TRUNGPA RIMPOCHE “My advice to you is not to undertake the spiritual path. It is too difficult, too long, and is too demanding. I suggest you ask for your money back, and go home. This is not a picnic. It is really going to ask everything of you. So, it is best not to begin. However, if you do begin, it is best to finish.” Well, I already put my shoes on…. :) #alwayslearningeverysecond #indonesiancosmos
