U N A P O L O G E T I C | RIHANNA : ALBUM REVIEW & REACTIONS

When I first heard the snippets to this album, I had already expected great things to come from it off the bat but, what I was not expecting was for it to be this cluster fuck of amazement that it is. I was literally paralyzed for hours just listening to it the first few times I around that I played it. Unapologetic is definitely one of those albums that takes you on a journey with every song and I have to say this album definitely gives Rated R some competition in my book as my favorite album from Rihanna thus far. The album is so diverse that it can go from it’s hood songs, to it’s deep emotional ballads, to the bedroom classics, to it’s club songs, to it’s pop songs and even into some very heavy dubstep and all gel so well. There’s definitely something anyone can find to enjoy on this album. It all fits together like a perfect puzzle piece and this album is definitely worth picking up as soon as possible.

1. Phresh Out The Runway

Rating: (4.5/5)

Reaction:

The opener on the album and definitely one of the illest songs I’ve ever heard from Rihanna ever. She oozes confidence, swagger, and sex appeal all into one song and it’s definitely one of favorites that I know hands down that I’m not going to get tired of playing for a long time.

2. Diamonds

Rating: (4/5)

Reaction:

The lead single off the album. Not my most favorite but not the worst either. It’s a beautiful song with a beautiful message none the less.

3. Numb (feat. Eminem)

Rating: 5/5

Reaction:

There’s just something about this song. I can’t really explaining but it’s intoxicating. It’s just one of those songs that just really takes you there and pulls you in whether you’d like it or not. My favorite part still is listening to Eminem’s verse. It is one of the dopest ways I’ve ever heard a sample used in my life. He just straight up went in and fucked shit up on this track and I fucking love it.

4. Pour It Up

Rating: 3.5/5 (I’d rate it higher if it was longer lol)

Reaction:

“OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH, All I see is signs, all I see is dolla signs!” The most ratchet song Rihanna has ever released. That’s really all I have to say about it lol. This song makes me want to go to strip club and make it rain on them hoes just because. It was my initial favorite on the album, I just had that it’s just barely 3 minutes as it definitely needs to be longer than what it is. I don’t know why but Rihanna seems to always have this bad habit of making some of the biggest fan favorites on her albums the shortest lol.

5. Loveeeee Song (feat. Future)

Rating: 4/5

Reaction:

We haven’t gotten a really slow sensual song from Rihanna since her Loud days with “Skin”. This song definitely fills that absence and it’s very clear from listening to it. Her and Future’s voices clash together very well making for a very sexy song that’ll definitely get you in the mood for some love and affection.

6. Jump

Rating: 4.5/5

Reaction:

Rihanna fucking murdered this. The sample alone from Ginuwine’s “Pony” was enough to win me over with this record but the song would have done so either way as the production is crazy as dirt and the lyrics are confident and sexy as shit. Definitely my second favorite.

7. Right Now (Feat. David Guetta)

Rating: 4/5

Reaction:

I usually don’t care too much for David Guetta’s production, but this record truly changed my opinion. I don’t know what it is with him and Rihanna but they seem to come up with some pretty dope music every time they work together and this song is proof of that.

8. What Now

Rating: 5/5

Reaction:

I love this record as it hits me right in my emotions. I can definitely relate to this song and it definitely puts me in reminisce of all of those feelings. One of Rihanna’s strongest ballads in a very long time; A definite favorite.

9. Stay (Feat. Mikky Ekko)

Rating: 4/5

Reaction:

A beautiful record and also another song that puts me deep into thought as well as my feelings.

10. Nobodies Business (feat. Chris Brown)

Rating: 4.5/5

Reaction:

The album takes a mild break from the sadness to go into a very cutesy song between her and former romantic interest Chris Brown. I love this song, it’s a very fun record you can’t get tired of. I was a bit nervous with this song from the rumors I heard surrounding it but it definitely came out way better than I was expecting. A lovely yet very groovy duet between the two.

11. Love Without Tragedy/Mother Mary

Rating: 5/5

Reaction:

Now when I say this song is a journey I truly mean that in every word. I  was absolutely speechless as I listened to this song as it truly hit me in another deep place and right after it went into it’s Mother Mary portion, I was astounded at Rihanna’s growth and the deep level of the song she was singing. Truly the best ballad on this album or any she’s ever had for that matter. Definitely a true work of art that I as a Rihanna fan am very proud of.

12. Get It Over With

Rating: 5/5

Reaction:

“I keep wondering, wondering, why you keep thundering, won’t you just fuckin’ rain?” This song I instantly understood and it put me yet again into another emotion phase momentarily. It’s an amazing record with amazing metaphorical references. Simply phenomenal.

13. No Love Allowed

Rating: 5/5

Reaction:

“Like a bullet your love hit me to the core…” A reggage ballad in a matter of speaking. As soon as I heard this song in it’s entirety it definitely hit home for me as I just came out of a very similar situation and when you’re aware of your feelings like I am songs like this really hit you hard.

14. Lost In Paradise

Rating: 4.5/5

Reaction:

A very strong closer to the album. A mid tempo ballad with enough strength to be a good song to chill to or even one to listen to when you’re going through your feelings.

Overall the album is fucking amazing. It’s definitely an emotional roller coaster as it has it’s party songs, it’s ballads, and it’s love songs and it’ll definitely take you through an emotion journey, one that’s very worth taking.
