richer and cleverer than everyone else

“I only steal because my dear old family needs the money to live!“
Locke Lamora made this proclamation with his wine glass held high; he and the other Gentleman Bastards were seated at the old witchwood table… . The others began to jeer.
"Liar!” they chorused
“I only steal because this wicked world won’t let me work an honest trade!” Calo cried, hoisting his own glass.
“LIAR!”
“I only steal,” said Jean, “because I’ve temporarily fallen in with bad company.”
“LIAR!”
At last the ritual came to Bug; the boy raised his glass a bit shakily and yelled, “I only steal because it’s heaps of fucking fun!”
“BASTARD!”
Scott Lynch, The Lies of Locke Lamora

It’s interesting that even though I haven’t found Ray Palmer that bad in his actual scenes, the way the EPs talk about him makes me want to throw my phone into traffic.

I LOATHE the Ray Palmer they promote. Not so much the one on the show.

I’m thinking somewhere in there, the marketing messages they’re trying to convey to me aren’t getting through…because to me:

Ray Palmer is not a ‘hero’. He’s not even close. He’s a wannabe, at best.

He’s a man who thinks he can be a hero because he has more money than God. He has no conceivable idea of the sacrifice and price involved.

He’s entitled. He thinks being richer and cleverer than everyone else gives him the edge. It doesn’t, because money and brains alone isn’t nearly enough.

He’s not a viable threat or comparison to Oliver Queen. He’s a soft bubba who looks like he’s taken a pilates class or two. Oliver Queen, on the other hand,
looks like he was forged through blood and fire. Because he was. And ok he might not wear a billion dollar suit. But he could snap your neck as soon as look at you - I know who I’d rather have standing up for me in a fight, and it will never be Palmer over Queen for me.
