rich resources

This is what I am: watching the spider
rebuild–“patiently,” they say,

but I recognize in her
impatience–my own–

the passion to make and make again
where such unmaking reigns

the refusal to be a victim
we have lived with violence so long

Am I to go on saying
for myself, for her

This is my body,
take and destroy it

Witchy 101-Research and practice

As we all know, Witchcraft has a lot of branching paths, things to learn and stuff to try. But we can’t possibly learn everything, not all at once. It is important to take things with a pinch of salt, and apply our own learning experiences to really begin understanding Witchcraft.

-Choose the topics you like; what do you want to work with, learn to do. They are the ones you focus on

-See how you can break topics down into chunks; divide it up into sections and focus on a section at a time until you understand it, then progress to more advanced sections once you feel comfortable. Don’t rush though!

-Mix theory with practice; you’re best to practice as you go as so to see how you feel doing it. This also gives you some flexibility into changes you make to methods and approaches, so it’s comfortable for you. Use everything as a guide, but make sure you make it personal.

-Everyone’s different, so don’t feel like you need to copy someone else to be good enough; if you like your way, then don’t change it.

Ways that you can record and research;

-Books; the staple of Witchcraft. Not everyone’s going to know what books are good or bad, but that’s how you learn. Look up book recommendations, ask around, or just grab a book and try it. If it involves plants, follow safety precautions and be careful with handling, otherwise use information from Witchcraft books as a guide.

-Collecting items; if you work with physical objects like plants, crystals, candles, etc. Collecting is very useful as part of learning. Experiment and see what you can do with them, because you might discover ways no one else could.

-Notebooks; pretty self explanatory, and these can be drafted neat into a grimoire if you have one

-Flashdrives; again, self explanatory but these make excellent portable grimoires for the discreet witch

-Photographs; If you are into plants, taking photos of anything you come across is very handy, and they can be stuck into your grimoire or stored on a flashdrive. Remember to name and label them with parts that you can use and always cross reference anything you find with reliable sources

-Field trips; visit as many places as you can, including your local area. Get to know what’s available to you. There’s always a good place for magic outside, but just be safe!

-Online resources; Google is great for answering quick questions, or getting definitions for words. Tumblr as we know is rich in resources created by other Witches. Also be sure to look at Websites, cross reference anything you’re unsure of though!

-The Witchcraft community; there are thousand of us, and we all know something useful and unique, so if you need assistance and opinions, asking us is a great way of learning something that a book never could teach you.

-Mobile apps; there are apps suited to different interests, like tarot references, moon phases, even plant encyclopedias. Explore those and try them out!

How do you learn Korean?

i make notes!!(too vague yes)

for now i’m mostly making notes on grammar rules and vocabulary lists :) if you want to be able to listen to conversations/understand what’s going on in songs, dramas etc. then it’s good to improve your vocabulary first :D

here are some resources I find helpful:

Talk to Me in Korean —– http://talktomeinkorean.com/

what they have:
youtube, podcasts

they frequently do videos on day-to-day topics such as clothes, laundry, buying things, valentine’s day etc. so they’re really helpful in improving little bits and bobs of your vocabulary!! :)

they also have physical textbooks and online PDF files, voice recordings, video courses and it’s all free omg I was super happy when I found it tbh 10/10 would recommend

How to Study Korean —– https://www.howtostudykorean.com/,

units and curriculums, vocabulary lists

they’re sort of similar to talktomeinkorean in the way that they have a curriculum planned out from easy to difficult, and recordings, except some of their resources (mostly worksheets and vocabulary lists) require payment :0

at the start of each chapter though they have a few vocabulary lists so I do often take those words down

I’d say this is more brief and on the go as compared to talktomeinkorean, and there aren’t too many ‘compartments’? so you don’t have to keep clicking around haha like there’s more content on one page

Korean Frequency List -Top 6000 Words —– https://www.topikguide.com/korean-frequency-list-top-6000-words/

as the title suggests haha

the above two don’t exactly have compiled vocabulary lists (at least from what i’ve encountered on the website, i may be wrong so do try and find them for yourself maybe) so I think this is a good compilation of vocabulary words you might find useful :)

these are the good stuff I can come up with right now off the tip of my tongue hmm, it’s a short list but it’s resource-rich >:o

hope this helps in some way!!

the rich inner resources inside taurus provide a natural eye for beauty, fairness, grace, and the opportunity to spot the development for wealth. money is always fairly important to taurus. this need for financial abundance relates not merely to materialism but rather an intense desire for security in every available way

Theory: White Diamond IS Homeworld

I’ve been thinking a lot of White Diamond since Wanted premiered, and I thought of a wild theory when we saw what everyone is assuming is some form of statue of WD when we got that glimpse of Homeworld, and that was portrayed in the title card:

Mainly because of the resemblance it bears to White Diamond’s mural in the moon base:

I’m inclined to agree, to be honest.

Onto my theory now. Looking at that giant statue I thought wow, White Diamond must have been a big deal and must be a big deal on Homeworld. Now there’s lots of theories about White Diamond floating around, some of them including the thought that perhaps she was the gem in the tomb in “Serious Steven”, or that perhaps she is a fusion of Blue, Yellow and Pink Diamond and we cannot see her now since Pink Diamond is shattered.

So we have the mural which depicts her as holding what I assume is Homeworld at her navel; then we have the most planets around WD’s mural, a more or less equal number in YD and BD’s murals, and one in PD’s mural:

(Image from here)

Thus it’s fairly certain that White Diamond is the OG, or OD if you will. She came first.

So if she’s such a big deal, why is it that we don’t hear her name dropped, don’t see anyone reference her, not even BD and YD or even Peridot in the moon base–where is she? We see her depicted everywhere, she has a HUGE statue/effigy on Homeworld…so what’s she up to?

Which got me to thinking, maybe she is the planet itself.

tbh i like the concept of each diamond being a foil to the main crystal gems.

1. pink diamond and rose obviously. compassion and love for all living beings compared to a tyrannical dictator who wanted to colonize/destroy planets. both are gone but still leave a huge impact on their respective other 3. was a total cold and cruel dictator who-despite being the youngest diamond-would do anything to prove herself to the other diamonds, which fits with roses effortless ability to lead and convince others to join them. this could lead to the introduction of pink pearl as somebody who doesn’t know her purpose without her diamond, like how steven is unsure what he’s supposed to be.

2. blue diamond and garnet. a fusion vs the diamond most abhorred by fusion. she is never portrayed in a sympathetic light like blue diamond now, rather her hatred for fusion stems from disgust of love. hence she wouldn’t be crying over pink diamond; instead she would be critical of her weakness and getting shattered by a quartz soldier. she is cold and ruthless in terms of fusion, and after the events of “the answer” if two different gems fuse she has them shattered.

3. yellow diamond and amethyst. yellow diamond is all about resources and rich planets to colonize except earth, where she can be angry at the one who shattered pink diamond but instead of it being because “uwu yellow loved pink uwu” itd be because she wasn’t going to let a defector-especially not a quartz (made in one of HER kindergartens)-get the last laugh, so of course she’d want to destroy the planet the rebel well. rebelled for. yellows in charge of the kindergartens and the maintenance of said kindergartens, and without roses interference amethyst probably would’ve been shattered and her gem pieces recycled to make a better soldier. (It could also be a good way to show how amethyst met rose) but instead amethyst lives and CONTINUES to live, which is the biggest crime a “runt” like her can commit.

4. and finally white diamond and pearl. maybe yellow and blue pearl are more like secretaries in this rewrite, but white pearl (if white pearl is a different gem from crystal gem pearl) is treated the worst. white diamond is a strict upholder of the class/caste system on homeworld and despises any attempts to change it. why? Because she loves power and doesn’t want anyone in her way. she loves being on top for no other reason than being on top. gems that work under white diamond are the best of the best. and when her pearl/a pearl (again depending on if white pearl is crystal gem pearl or not) REBELS? unacceptable. but pearl is not meant to be bossed around and is her own person with her own agency. she doesn’t need anybody to tell her what to do.

if any of this doesn’t make sense it’s because I started writing it during work. but you could also put the homeworld gems and unbubbled bismuth here too; jasper is a perfect quartz soldier (white diamonds high standards of gems who work under her-yes I know Jasper’s technically under yellow but please), lapis is implied to be a former member of blue diamonds court (a higher-up terraformer learning human emotion and learning to love herself after her traumatic experiences? despicable), peridot is obvious, and bismuth will continue shattering the diamonds like rose did to pink but without the sudden change of heart.

South Pacific islands ban western junk food and go organic
Leaders of Vanuatu province want to turn local people and tourists away from unhealthy imports in favour of locally grown crops and seafood
By Eleanor Ainge Roy

A group of south Pacific islands are banning foreign junk food imports in favour of an all-local, organic diet as a way to combat future health problems.

Torba province, part of Vanuatu, aims to impose restrictions on the import of western foodstuffs and instead take advantage of its productive agricultural land and rich natural resources. Located in the northern part of Vanuatu, Toba is often described as the “forgotten province” and the majority of its 10,000 people are subsistence farmers.

Father Luc Dini, a community leader and head of the local tourism council, said a ban on foreign food imports would improve the health and wellbeing of islanders.

“At the moment we have an infiltration of junk food from overseas,” he said.

“It is easy to boil noodles or rice, but they have almost no nutritional value and there is no need to eat imported food when we have so much local food grown organically on our islands.”

UH, HOLY SHIT THE LORE

“I’m an Era Two Peridot. I’m new. Resources are dwindling on Homeworld. They can’t make Gems like they used to. That’s why they give Era Two Peridots technological enhancements… Because we don’t have powers.”

Wow. That’s…. Wow! So the Limb Enhancers aren’t supplemental, they’re everything. A complete replacement to make up for no natural abilities. That definitely shines a new light on how terrified Peridot was in Catch and Release.

I’m guessing she can’t summon a weapon, either. But what about Fusion? She’s still got the illusion body, right? Or is fusing a form of shape-shifting?

Actually, if Connie can fuse, then I bet Peridot can fuse. That’d be another instance of non-shapeshifting fusion. Also, Peridot was acting like it was something she can do back in Log Date, so… Yeah, I’ll believe that.

As for the phrase “Era Two,” combined with the fact that Peridot is younger than the Rebellion, we can guess that the new era dawned when Homeworld lost the fight for Earth. Yeah, with how resource-rich Earth is, I guess a lot hinged upon being able to exploit the hell out of it. So without the resources of Earth, Homeworld is forced to produce weaker Gems.

Land Speeders are based on STC data recovered in M31 by the famous Techno-archaeologist Arkhan Land, and afterwards became widely produced and used throughout the Imperium. Land Speeders were also originally used by the Imperial Guard, but since then the plasma and anti-gravity technologies required to produce them have become increasingly rare and hard to maintain. Only extremely resource rich planets like Ryza or organisations such as the Space Marines can afford to create them. There are 50 plus Land Speeders in a typical Chapter.

Okay, so the article on evolutionary biology and feminism is available as a pdf just by searching the title “The Evolutionary Origins of Patriarchy.” It’s by Barbara Smuts. But in the article she presents six hypotheses for why patriarchy may be evolutionary/biology. I thought they were interesting so here they are:

1. Among ancestral hominids, female ability to resist male aggression was comprised by reduced social support from kin and female allies. She suggests we were similar to non-human primates social structures with female dispersal away from kin and weak female-female coalitions as common place. It’s unknown why we have this pattern of dispersal, but it makes sense that our relationships would be more strained among those we did not grow up with.

2. Over the course of human evolution, male-male alliances become increasingly well-developed. These alliances were often directed against females, and they increased male power over females. Apparently male-male alliances against females also happen in the animal kingdom and involve groups of males ganging up on fewer or solitary females. She argues that in species where males are larger than females, even with equal numbers males would be at an advantage. With effective male-male alliances established and violence against females occurring, male power over females is reinforced. As we say all the time, not all men need to be violent to keep women afraid or “in their place.”

3. Over the course of human evolution, and particularly since the advent of agriculture and animal husbandry, males gained control over resources that females need to survive and reproduce. This increased male ability to control and coerce females. She states that in all other primates, females sustain themselves and do not rely heavily on males for resources. So one aspect in which humans differ is the extent of food sharing, which could in turn be used against females as well and in the process strengthen the formation of male-male alliances. Agriculture, animal husbandry and settling exacerbate all of these issues and give males more incentive to secure control of females. Regardless of how hard women worked, they often lost control over the products of their labor. On smaller plots of land men were more easily able to control and monitor women. With more intensive resources being invested, men had more incentive to make sure offspring were their own. And with more resources at men’s disposal, they could make it more costly to resist male domination.

4. Over the course of evolution, male sociopolitical arrangements increased the variance in male wealth and power and perpetuated family differentials across generations. As a result of increasingly unequal relationships among men, women became increasingly vulnerable to the will and whims of the few most powerful men, and women’s control over their own sexuality was greatly reduced. There is a positive association between male-male power differentials and the extent to which women are controlled and dominated. Coercive strategies of reproduction become more viable as less powerful males do not interfere with more powerful males. As powerful men monopolize control over women, several things may happen. 1) A shortage of women at the bottom, which may lead to more coercion, 2) an inability of less powerful, less coercive males to provide females with material benefits due to the male-male hierarchy and 3) inability of females to freely choose mates due to male control over females.

5. In pursuing their material and reproductive interests, women often engage in behaviors that promote male resource control and male control over female sexuality. Thus, women as well as men contribute to the perpetuation of patriarchy. Due to male control, it is not always as beneficial for females to ally with each other over males. There are strong incentives to invest in males and particularly resource rich ones. Son preference and male-biased inheritance patterns are a part of this. It is often more beneficial for a family to have a son than a daughter and therefore, this cycle of male investment continues.

6. The evolution of the capacity for language allowed males to consolidate and increase their control over females because it enabled the creation and propagation of ideologies of male dominance/female subordinance and male supremacy/female inferiority. Once language evolved, male-male alliances, male control over resources, and male-male hierarchy likely all increased. She argues that men’s use of language to subordinate women is a natural extension of our pre-linguistic history, one that allowed for further elaboration of male control over females. Although language is unique to us, male motivation to control females is not. Patriarchy is therefore a product of reproductive strategies which in humans have undergone “unusually effective elaboration.”

I’d be really interested to hear everyone’s thoughts on it! There’s definitely some things she touches on that I hadn’t really thought of before.
