America's Funniest Home Videos Names New Host

Tom Bergeron, current host of both Dancing with the Stars and America’s Funniest Home Videos, announced tonight the the DWTS season finale, that the new host of AFV for this fall will be Alfonso Ribeiro. Riberio, aka Carlton from The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air and season 19 champion of DWTS, just might the right fit for the gig. Its not easy finding the right host for the 25 year old show.
“After receiving hundreds of inquiries, stacks of video submissions and a very close audition race, one smile, one funny and sincere delivery became our standout favorite – Alfonso Riberio,” said Vin Di Bona, executive producer. “We look forward to Alfonso leading AFV into the next generation of family friendly viewership.”
AFV is ABC’s longest-running primetime entertainment show that had a strong performance with original host Bob Saget from 1989-1997 despite his annoying delivery of bad jokes. At the end of Saget’s run, AFV was shelved a few months and returned as a mid-season replacement show with new hosts, Daisy Fuentes and John Fugelsang with a slightly new format and different airing schedule. However, between the ever-changing air times and days and the poor reception of the new hosts, ABC decided to discontinue the show as a regular series and instead, run occasional specials with a variety of special hosts. However, the show began to shine once again in 2001 when former Hollywood Squares host, Tom Bergeron, came to the rescue. The show returned to its former Sunday night timeslot in 2003. The show is seen in 193 territories around the world.

As always, viewers wishing to submit home videos to America’s Funniest Home Videos should visit www.AFV.com for details.
