Summer Anime 2016

This summer we have so many anime with an all-male cast, I was so happy I decided to to a rec/ranking/review/summary. Note: I only watch anime with mostly males I’m sorry it’s just what I like lol so this list may not match yours. (I cannot stand female leads - except maybe Gintama? - because they will escalate into romantic relationships and they annoy me to no end. It’s like the only purpose of females is romance and I hate that.) And a warning is that I’m kind of shallow so I normally look at the guys’ looks and then their character. But good character and relationship developments are definitely essential to me too.

1. Fukigen na Mononokean

I’ve rec it so many times I feel like I’m part of the official publicity comm but it’s really good :) My favourite character is Abeno cause he’s really adorable and tsundere (?) haha. If you like youkai, friendship and touching moments, do try this out!! It’s a little similar to Natsume Yuujinchou too.

2. Servamp

It looks really interesting so I watched it and when I saw the OP I screamed cause all-male cast! Compared to Spring 2016 this season does look more appealing to me. And I’ve ran out of anime with all bromance (other than sports anime) and no romance. So anyway for Servamp, Kuro was a really cute cat, and the setting seems interesting enough for me to chase. I feel like I might not like the main character as much though but we’ll see.

3. Fudanshi Kokou Seikatsu

Ahh this is really cute I can relate so much to the main character as a Fujoshi myself :D and I can hardly find friends who can fangirl with me. It’s really sad to be embarrassed for liking gay ships ;n; The only bad thing about the series is that it’s too short each episode haha.

4. D.Gray-man Hallow

I’ve read the manga but didn’t understand most of it. Still, it’s likeable and I like Allen and Kanda. I felt like this season they beautified all the characters and Kanda definitely looks better with his new hairstyle/fringe :DD I hope they can animate most of the manga and I hope we can finally understand what is going on with the 14th.

5. Handa-kun

I just watched the 1st episode today and all I can is that it’s really good and hilarious omg. Only it’s too short with the first 9min trying to break the fourth wall and I couldn’t understand the humor at all. Still, the rest of the episode was worth it! Can’t wait for the rest!

Goblin Episode 15 and 16 (FINALE)

I didn’t realize how invested I was into this show until today. Sure, I enjoyed every minute of it -some more than others- and I was rooting for the characters to have a happy ending. But you just know you are all in when you bawl your eyes out crying, not once or twice but three times.

First, I want to say this has been an amazing show with an incredibly cast. And I’m not talking about the main characters but all the actors involved in this project, from the souls Reaper collected to the miscellaneous people Kim Shin helped through his life, Grandpa, Secretary Kim, the Reapers, all of them were part of what made this show so good. All of them played, in the bigger picture, a part unique to them that made the story.

Second, as a photographer this show was cinematography porn. I don’t know who the photographer for this kdrama was but she or he did an amazing job. And the way it collaborated with the view and storytelling from the PD was perfection. I also enjoyed how the Writer chose to tell the story too. She said this is her first time working the fantasy genre, but I think she has proven that when you write stories rooted on real life situations and feelings, with compelling characters, a little bit of magic just makes the show even more fantastic.

So, let’s move on to what happened:

I should have kwon that a show title “Lonely and Great God” would give a sort of happy ending. Kim Shin did get his happiness by meeting Eun-tak and learning how to live. Death is part of the universal human experience and that’s something Shin had to learn how to deal with, because he is a God but one more connected to humanity. He saw his people’s death as a curse when he should have seen that the time they shared was a precious gift. In the end, all the characters passed… but that’s not the end of their story and he knew this better than anybody. I think at the end he learned how to forgive others and himself, to let go of his pain and move on in order to be happy, even if it meant waiting for a little while to meet again those he loves.

Eun-tak had always been living on borrowed time. So, it wasn’t all that shocking that her fate was to have a short first life… doesn’t mean it didn’t hurt like a b**ch watching her voluntarily parking the car in the middle of the street in order to save others. That’s who she was at her core and I’m glad that if she had to go it was on her own terms and not because the Gods were looming over her fate. She choose, out of free will, what to do with her life to her very last breath.

At the end, we all knew Shin and Eun-tak would meet again. I choose to believe they will meet through her four lives. Maybe by that time, the Gods will let Shin go with her. Perhaps he will choose to stay with the big family they created together. Perhaps, she’s mistaken and we have more than four lives. Maybe they will meet over and over, and over again.

Grim Reaper’s life went on with a broken heart. I kinda forget this is a character who is doing a penance and just because he’s freaking adorable and met the love of his life once again, doesn’t mean they will be together. So, Reaper spent his life learning to appreciate and yearn for life, his and others, by watching death everyday for 300 years. By holding on through the pain of being apart from the woman he loved, like he should have when he was Wang Yeo.

Sunny also finally made the choice to let go of Reaper. Even if they wanted to, they couldn’t be together in this life either, the purpose of their meeting -in my opinion- was so that they could make amends and forgive each other. In this life, Sunny chose herself for the first time over everyone else and she went to find her happiness. And I’m sure she lived a full life.

The last scene between Sunny and Reaper broke me. They are my favorite couple from the show and when they met once again to move on to another life, finally together, I started bawling. It was a bittersweet happiness, because I could feel the longing they went through and how much love there was between them after so many lives of missing each other. These two will always be together through all the lives they will get.

But this scene also broke me because Shin was once again saying goodbye to them. Reaper and Sunny moving on meant for Shin to have to wait to meet them again. One of the most developed relationships in the show is definitely the one between Shin and Reaper, their bickering and friendship was one of the main pillars of the show, and I love how they started and ended. They too are meant to be.

On a funny note: I love that Sunny and Reaper met again at the film location of a drama. Probably one that Reaper would watch religiously. And that they didn’t wait at all to become a couple, the Gods listened to Sunny and made Shin’s wish come true: their waiting was short and the meeting long.

My only complain is that I wish I could have seen more of them as a HAPPY couple, because they were always together but full of sorrow and longing… the hotel scene, tough, was incredibly hilarious.

I also want to send all my love to Duk-hwa and Secretary Kim who were always there to cheer everyone, the characters and us, through the sad moments. Even thought I would have loved to see a grown Duk-hwa, in the end, I’m glad I didn’t. He will always be the smart, kind and happy chaebol who goes with the flow and brought many laughters. I just can’t imagine anybody but Yook Sun-jae in the role and I don’t want to. Also, Secretary Kim, he remained loyal to the very end and had a happy and full life as a father figure and friend for Duk-hwa. A guardian angel? The man sure got things done.

As for the Gods, through the 16 episodes of the show, they have proven to be fickle and have bleeding hearts. But I thank them for bringing these people together so we could enjoy this amazing kdrama.

My Opinion: Grim Reaper & Sunny in ‘Goblin’

Most fans must already know or must have read several theories about the Grim Reaper and Sunny possibly being a reincarnation of the King and Queen. I noticed a few more details to support the claim.

The Queen wears the ring in the past, the fact that the ring calls to both Yoo In Na and Lee Dong Wook means there must be a definite connection between these characters.

Now, another thing worth mentioning is how the writers keep on hinting that Lee Dong Wook is a King in the past. Being a Grim Reaper, he doesn’t remember anything from the past, he doesn’t know what his grave sin was and him betraying Kim Shin in the past is definitely a plausible reason.

There’s definitely something more to the past that are yet to be revealed in the drama. I can’t wait for it to unravel. The story is so unique and is definitely addicting. I highly recommend this drama, its fun, its everything and more. (Aside from Sweet stranger and Me and Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo, this is one of my current faves at the moment.) Plus, the cinematography is great. Kudos to the entire team and the actors. TVN had outdone themselves again.

Also, this old lady just keep on making me curious. She plays a huge part in this story and I am soooo interested in her, just what is she?

Mini Make Up Haul + First Impressions

Last Monday, I decided to do a little make up haul. When I say little, I mean I have a very limited budget I have to stick with. Believe it or not, I limited myself to a budget of about 800 pesos. With that small amount, drugstore make up is the way to go! Just how successful was I? Read more to find out.

Guardian: The Lonely and Great God, or more popularly known by International fans as Goblin, is a fantasy-romance drama about a goblin who was stabbed by a sword, punished to be immortal and live while remembering all those who have suffered and sacrificed for him. He would need a mortal bride to withdraw the sword in his heart to end his immortal life. He befriends a grim reaper who is tasked of taking deceased souls to the afterlife. He then also meets a mortal girl who could see ghosts and claims to be his bride. The story unfolds as they discover who they were and what their connections were in their previous lives.

I know this ended 2 weeks ago but I couldn’t help but watch the entire drama twice before writing this review. I just finished my second drama marathon yesterday and I actually watched episodes 15 & 16 right before writing this. I’m in love with this drama. I intentionally didn’t watch this while this was airing and opted to watch it as it ended because I know the wait for next episodes would be such a torture. When I first knew about this, this didn’t really attract much of my attention until I saw behind the scenes clips of Yoo InNa and Lee DongWook. This is greatly written. The screenplay and the script are masterpieces. This is fresh and interesting as this is something new to the audience. The roles were well-played. I have always been a Gong Yoo fan and I don’t know anyone who isn’t. I also don’t know anyone who would nail the role of the Goblin aside from Gong Yoo. I became a fan of Kim GoEun ever since I saw her in Cheese in the Trap. Both 19 year old Ji EunTak and 29 year old Ji EunTak fit her. I’m also a Yoo InNa and Lee DongWook fangirl. As I’ve said, they’re the first reasons why I watched this. Don’t you think they make such a lovely couple? I hope they get to be paired up in future productions! Sungjae has shown that he has improved a lot in acting. His productions are something to look forward to. I really liked how the past was connected to the present, Kim MinJae and Kim SoHyun did such great jobs as well! The soundtrack is also amazing! I’m actually listening to the whole soundtrack while writing this review.

There is something to look forward to in each episode and you’ll want to see more and more every after each episode as well. I haven’t felt much emotions in one production. I felt the Goblin’s loneliness, laughed with Kim Shin and Grim Reaper’s antics, they make such good bromance by the way; smiled at Deok Hwa’s quirkiness, felt giddy over both couples’ scenes, felt EunTak’s longing and all the other emotions. You can also learn a lot from this drama. No matter the circumstances are, if you love a person, you go against all the odds for it. Things may not be right as of the moment but they will be placed in their perfect places in the future. This got me thinking, will I also be reincarnated? Despite on dwelling on that thought, I learned that one is given lots of chances and opportunities to correct one’s mistakes and do their missions in life. You are given the chance to choose how to lead your life. You are just guided by the Almighty but at the end of the day, it’s all your choices. Most of all, if something’s meant to be, then it will be. I can definitely say this is late 2016 to early 2017’s best Korean drama! Now, I’m feeling all the separation anxiety and planning for a 3rd row of drama marathon. I just miss them! This is a must watch to all Korean drama fans! For those who aren’t fans, then this will convert you to one! I think it’s pretty obvious that this is a 10/10 in my book!

Episodes 7 & 8 Goblin Review: It couldn’t be helped that this was the beginning of this tragic love story

Firstly, I apologize for the super late ep 7 & 8 review on Sunny and GR’s relationship. I’ve been so busy this week with other responsibilities. I’m not sure how exciting this review will be since tomorrow is the new episode, lol, but I’ll still write it for those who are interested. I’ll be discussing both possibilities of King GR - Queen Sunny and King Sunny - Queen GR theories.

So we finally get some answers as to who Sunny and GR may really be and it’s for sure they are the reincarnates of the King and Queen of Goryeo whom Shin served; specifically Wang Yeo and Kim Sun respectively. These two episodes really progressed their relationship; especially, how both of their lives have changed since they’ve met each other. The most dramatic change is GR and how Sunny has completely taken over his mind, body, and feelings.

In episode 7, GR was troubled for not having a business card; therefore, he didn’t call her nor answer her calls because he felt he wasn’t worthy until he fulfilled the needs he lacked. He confronts Deok-hwa on wanting a business card, as well as, the location of Sunny’s building. What’s interesting is that GR immediately goes to see Sunny after knowing where her restaurant is located, but he doesn’t approach her. Instead he watches her from afar and keeps his distance. Particularly this is important to note because GR never approaches Sunny until he fulfills a need (such as when he goes to walk her home in ep 8 because he decided on being an atheist); this shows that GR is still hesitant on initiating their relationship. As for Sunny, an overprotective and jealous GR protects her from the drunk guy she encounters… but poor her… a lot of weird things have been happening around her, lol.

We also get another cute date between these two and, again, it was Sunny who initiated this date. The hilarious part: GR was the one who interrupted Eun-tak’s date with Tae Hee and then he asked her for date advice, lmao. The topic of “identity” is very important to GR’s character as he’s trying to create “Kim Woo Bin.” But who would have thought that this naive grim reaper would be such a smooth talker (I was swooning along with Sunny lol)! Also, in this same episode, Sunny has mentioned “killing” GR twice: when she talks with Eun-tak on the phone and when she tells GR to stay seated; it’s become an iconic line of Sunny towards GR and I think this line of hers makes her sound like the King instead. Personally, one of the most interesting lines said by GR and Sunny was about how GR’s “ungraceful actions yielded wrong answers.” I find this line quite interesting because it could foreshadow that GR is indeed the reincarnate of the King (the King ungracefully murdered Shin and his family but did it solve anything?)

Probably one of the most important scenes in ep 7 was when GR cried upon seeing the portrait of Shin’s sister (ugh… his tears were so sad I could feel his pain T.T). This scene doesn’t actually confirm whether GR is the King or Queen, but we get a flashback of the young (to-be) king peeking on the young (to-be) queen as she was practicing proper walking etiquette. The way how the young King is watching the young Queen from afar reminds me of how GR was watching Sunny from a distance earlier in the episode. On the other hand, during this painful experience, GR was grasping his heart and, personally, I can also associate this with him being the Queen because she was shot in the heart.

HOW THE FUCK did the King change from an adorable-smiling bundle of love to a cold-heartless murderer!!! DAMNIT, THAT EVIL ADVISOR!!!

In episode 8, we actually don’t get much interaction between GR and Sunny; but, we get more of GR’s thoughts as he is troubled over the painting. It is confirmed that the queen is indeed Shin’s sister and Deok-hwa even mentions the possibility that GR might be her reincarnation. During this conversation between Shin, GR, and Deok-hwa, GR mentions that his “heart hurt so much.” Again, this could correlate to GR being the Queen because she was shot in the heart by an arrow upon the command of the King (and the King didn’t look so sad from what we’ve seen so far). But another interesting line of GR was when he said, “All I have are the emotions, but not the memories themselves.” This is very interesting because if all he has are “emotions” and not the “memories” then the pain he is feeling mostly reflects what we’ve seen of the Queen thus far, which explains his tears upon seeing the ring and the portrait to him grasping his heart (I also personally love how he ends up saying “Big Bro” in the mirror, lmao xD). It was hilarious how he kept buying chicken because he wanted to see Sunny and then gave it to Shin (also, may I mention how casually he called Eun-tak’s name)!

And finally our adorable GR visits our lonely Sunny! It may or may not be significant, but the number 50 is a lucky number usually symbolizing “completeness/full,” “salvation/passion,” and “masculinity.” GR showing up as the 50th person may represent how they both complete each other, as well as, how he may actually be the “King.” Another hilarious comment by Sunny that is also important to note was when she said, “So don’t you dare go and prepare another woman this time.” Honestly, when she said this I couldn’t help but question: did the King have multiple wives or not and if Shin’s sister was jealous? xD But GR is just so damn cute (calling her 10 times to tell her that he’s an atheist lmao)! Probably the biggest revelation by Sunny was when she revealed her real name to be “Kim Sun” which is Shin’s deceased sister’s name - she even goes to length of telling the origin of her name and how it sounds like the name of “a pitiful girl with a sad past.” But she doesn’t like her name and prefers “Sunny” because it’s more dazzling which sounds like what a King would prefer and not someone who married into the royal family. Sadly, our GR doesn’t have a name but he suddenly feels pain in his heart while Shin is writing down the name “Wang Yeo” which is the deceased King’s name. This sounds too good to be true (that I almost want to think the writer is trolling us lol) since both GR and Sunny have the exact names of the King and Queen respectively! If so, then this would mean GR is the reincarnate of the King and Sunny of the Queen. My heart was aching for GR as he commands Sunny to forget what happened and turn away… he couldn’t walk her home!! T.T WHY?!?

So in conclusion, my thoughts are honestly just a huge mess right now, lmao. I’m torn between the two theories since I can see either one happening. Having GR and Sunny’s names revealed in this manner just seems way too obvious compared to the tragic revelation of Shin and Eun-tak’s fate - that it makes me think the writer wants to trick us into believing GR as the King and Sunny as the Queen. Going along with the King Sunny - Queen GR theory, if the number 50 is significant, then perhaps them having each other’s name allows them to complete each other for their memories to return instead of their names literally representing who they are reincarnates of. Also, I’m sincerely interested in their past lives love story as much as the present one! As we’ve learned from Samshin grandma, the King and Queen’s love story is tragic (well he kills her which is pretty tragic already). Aside from all of this angst and sadness… GR and Sunny HAVE SO MUCH CHEMISTRY THAT IT’S ALMOST SICKENING xD (They have more chemistry than my organic chemistry text book lmao)! I just love how they flirt so casually with each other and their smiles are so fuckin precious!! THEY NEED TO BE PROTECTED!

I honestly hope to see more progression of their relationship in the next episodes (I need a kiss!!!) and maybe GR will somehow end up touching Sunny by accident (or even on purpose lol) so it might reveal more about Sunny’s past. I also want to see more of Sunny’s thoughts since we were given GR’s thoughts in this episode. Ugh… the new episode comes out in a few hours!!! THE ANGST IS REAL!!!

RICH IS BACK! I mean, yeah, other stuff happened, but THERE WAS A LOT OF RICH AND IT WAS AWESOME!!

Y: Awesome would be an understatement. A criminal understatement! I don’t think the grin was wiped off my face for that whole hour!

L: This might be my favorite episode ever. It was just so much damn fun. Also, Best. Dialogue. Ever. I wonder if the scripts for Rich Dotcom episodes run longer, to accommodate for all the awesome lines that come at you like machine gun fire?

your appreciation for my fanfic has made me a squealing mess! It means a lot! You created an amazing world with lovable and swoon worthy characters and all i want to do is get the word out to more readers!

Oh my stars, I couldn’t be more honored! I used to write fanfic, so to see one coming from a book of my own is kind of a dream.

Supporting and getting the word out is golden for indie authors. It’s really a lifeline for my stories, so thank you!!!

Episode Review: "Just so much math" [S02E13]

Well, now that we’ve had a little time to digest this episode, what did we think?

Y: Well, I mean… I suppose it wasn’t too bad? Who am I kidding?!?! That could easily have been the strongest and most jaw dropping episode of season 2! The opening act alone was enough to blow my mind and the rest of the episode just kept the same tempo and the same intensity. Wow!

L: Whoa. Jaw-dropping indeed! A lot happened in one hour. But I am also kinda giddy, because this episode was exactly the fast-paced, plot-twisty show we fell in love with. When it was done, I kind of gaped at the screen, closed my mouth, and then watched it again.

Nas | illmatic 22 yrs later

In 1994, coming straight out of Queensbridge, a young lyricist Nasir Jones debuts his highly anticipated album Illmatic and changes the East Coast rap game forever. Now known through different aliases such as Nasty Nas, God’s Son, Nas Escobar and Nastradamus; back then he was just Nas, a kid giving us a glimpse into his life and what it meant to have a New York state of mind.

Illmatic had only ten songs but five producers including Pete Rock, Q-Tip and DJ Premier.

An intelligent flow blending effortlessly with the beats laid. He’s not just saying something; he’s giving you some insight. An album that demands to be heard, don’t disrespect it by just putting it on shuffle and going about your day. One of those albums you have to own a vinyl of. You can feel the jazz notes float up to the celling, the drums beating off your walls. A true classic, an art form that doesn’t fade with time, it compromises and excels. You listen to the album and feel yourself exhale.

The album opens up with The Genesis.

“Stop fucking around and be a man,
There ain’t nothing out here for you.”

“Oh yes there is, this!”

There is a lot of negativity that get’s planted inside of a young upcoming artists head, bricks of self doubt can bury you before your bloom.

Nas overcame this because he believed in his poetry. He believed in his craft. He believed that Hip-Hop is where his heart is at. This is what the album is all about.

One love,

Save I'm Drunk, I love you

Like srsly, talagang binawasan ang sinehan na nagpapalabas ng ganito kagandang palabas?

Carson and Dio, is like every goddamn college student in this generation (well mostly, di pala lahat).

At kung meron man, kelan nga ba yon? Kelan mo dapat pakawalan yung isang bagay na ikaw lang ang may nararamdaman?

Guys, go watch this film! Feeling ko makakarelate mga ka-edad ko, kasi ako nga relate na relate. Hahaha. May mahal ako for five years, and yet hindi naging kami, ni hindi man lang niya ako nilingon! Hahaha. This movie sabi nga ng isang review na nabasa ko is, “beautifully disturbing” and indeed, it is.

The Lego Batman Movie (2017)
Movie Review by: Will Whalen

Na na na na na na Batman!!! The Lego Batman Movie is here! Time to get out your black clothes and go to the theater for some major butt kicking. The Lego Batman Movie stars Will Arnett as Batman and follows the story of Batman, who after changes are made to the city, he must learn to work with others, raise a boy he has adopted and to stop the villains from taking over Gotham City.

The Lego Movie turned out to be one of the biggest surprises I’ve ever seen. Before seeing it, I thought it was going to be terrible, as did many others. It turned out to be such a fun and hilarious movie and now, we have a franchise in this Lego Movie world. I must say, they have done it again with this because this movie was a ton of fun and absolutely hilarious from start to finish.

My hopes for this were fairly low but seeing as I loved The Lego Movie, I had only hoped it would be just as good. The animation in this is fantastic, but that’s to be expected. The things they can accomplish with legos and animation is amazing. Hands down the best thing about this film is the sense of humor they maintained and had throughout this. I laughed nearly the entire time while watching this, which also served as a problem sometimes because there was so many jokes, one after another, that it was hard to keep up with the previous joke while another joke is being made directly after. However, it’s not a huge flaw per say, it just could be a bit much at times.

The Lego Batman Movie pokes fun at the history of Batman all the way to the 60’s Batman and did it so well and really hit home with many of these jokes. Being a fan of Batman my whole life, a lot of the jokes had me laughing out loud in the theater and almost uncontrollably at times. They poke fun at past Batman films, other DC universe films, and even jokes at the huge fandom that is Batman and does it perfectly. There’s tons of pop culture references that were clever and something that was really enjoyable to see. There’s one joke that takes a stab at Killer Croc that had my sides hurting. If you’ve seen Suicide Squad, you’ll know what I’m talking about.

The voice work in this film is brought to us by a huge star studded cast and was done excellently. Especially Will Arnett as Batman. He is the life of the movie, not just because he’s Batman, but because of how hilarious he is. The Joker in this movie was also really funny and I loved what they did with him. He just wants Batman to admit that he’s his worst enemy, but Batman doesn’t want to admit that the Joker means anything to him, which provided a lot of silly humor that I found very much enjoyable. One thing I would really like to praise for in this film is how mature it is. Sure, kids can watch it and enjoy it but there’s also a lot of humor that parents or young adults would only be able to understand. Especially if you’ve seen previous Batman films and that was something I really appreciated while watching this.

The Lego Batman Movie kind of follows the same formula as The Lego Movie, even has a song that Batman rapsand throws in a ton of characters from other films that Lego can use but it’s nonetheless, a really fun ride. That being said, if you liked The Lego Movie, then you’ll probably most definitely like this. I had a blast while watching it and there were tons of jokes that will have some in tears.

I’m going to give The Lego Batman Movie

Book: Ugly Love
Colleen Hoover

When Tate Collins meets airline pilot Miles Archer, she knows it isn’t love at first sight. They wouldn’t even go so far as to consider themselves friends. The only thing Tate and Miles have in common is an undeniable mutual attraction. Once their desires are out in the open, they realize they have the perfect set-up. He doesn’t want love, she doesn’t have time for love, so that just leaves the sex. Their arrangement could be surprisingly seamless, as long as Tate can stick to the only two rules Miles has for her.

Never ask about the past.
Don’t expect a future.

They think they can handle it, but realize almost immediately they can’t handle it at all.

Hearts get infiltrated.
Promises get broken.
Rules get shattered.
Love gets ugly.

My Thoughts:

Ugly Love is the first book I read by Colleen Hoover and I’m kicking myself for not reading her books sooner. I can tell that Ugly Love has sparked my love and heartbreak with Hoover’s books. This story follows the lives of two people, Miles and Tate. When 23 year old Tate moves in with her brother her main focus is getting a job and finishing her masters program. That’s until she meet’s her brother’s friend and neighbor Miles. Miles is dreamy, he’s got the most beautiful blue eyes and a body that would make a male model cry with jealousy, but he also has huge emotional wall built up around him; one that Tate wants to tear down with her bare hands. Miles has a proposition for Tate, let’s be friends with benefits minus the friends part. For this arrangement to work Miles’ has two rules: 1. Tate can’t ask about his past and 2. She can’t plan having a future with him. The relationship between them is all fireworks and fog; heat and cold. Miles has been through a lot. In the beginning of the novel you wonder what exactly happened to make him so distant? What happened to Rachel? When you find out good lord your heart will break. I don’t know how I can prepare you for those feels. Since the story is two POVs; the present in Tate’s POV, the past in Miles’, it makes Miles’ story so much more gut wrenching because you see it and feel it from his prospective. Just thinking about it is painful.

I normally don’t enjoy dual POVs but I loved the structure of this novel. I think using a dual POV to only explain the past of one of the main characters was such a wonderful idea and it really made the entire book. It was like reading two different stories at once but in the end it connected and became on beautiful story. Colleen Hoover is an incredible writer, I cannot emphasis this enough. Everything written in Miles’ POV was poetic and poignant. Novels like Ugly Love makes me wonder if loving this deeply truly exists, the way that Colleen writes about love is so realistic but mystical at the same time.

Ugly Love was such a great book and I want to thank Summer at ButterMyBooks for forcing it me to read it. Now, it’s my turn to recommend it to you. If you’re looking for a heart felt romance that will have you fighting back tears then this is your book! If you are looking for a book that is filled with a love that will give you butterflies, then Ugly Love is for you. If you are looking for a book with such good smut you’ll have to fan yourself, look no further! If you want to read a book that has a wonderful story that will stick with you then I highly suggest you read Ugly Love by Colleen Hoover.

Offical Synopsis:

The myth of Eros isn’t the truth. Her story is the truth …

Love is an immortal bad girl. With a strike of her arrow and a smirk on her face, she pins human hearts together against their will. It’s for their own good, of course—silly, clueless creatures that they are.

But Love has never loved. Not until the Fates parcel her off to a small, frostbitten town littered with needy souls. Not until she crosses paths with Andrew, a boy whose gaze locks onto hers. Yet how can this be? Mortals don’t have the power to see deities.

The longer they’re friends, the more Love wishes she could touch Andrew. In gentle ways. In other tempting and reckless ways as well.

It’s impossible. She isn’t a true part of his world. She’s an outsider whose fingers will only ever sweep through him. A mischievous, invisible goddess who’s destined to be alone. And he’s destined for someone else. By order of the Fates, it’s Love’s duty to betray his trust. To seal his heart while ignoring the gash in her own.

Or she could become human. For there is one very tricky, very dangerous way to do so.

If only Andrew felt the same about her, it might be worth the risk

My thoughts:

OKAY. Can I start out by saying that I NEED MORE OF THE OTHER FATES. Don’t make me beg for more books about them individually.. I mean, I will beg because I desperately want more of this world but.. CAN WE MAKE THIS A THING?!?!?!?!

That being said, my favorite part of this book was how wonderfully built the characters are. Every single character was so interesting individually (especially Andrew *heart eyes*) but Love was also very well written. Her character development is off the charts. The writing was almost lyrical to me. It was extremely pleasing to read.

I would classify this book as Upper YA, not quite steamy enough to be NA but definitely enough for me to fall in love. Natalia rode the line between YA and NA in the best possible ways. I love mythology but everyone knows that it can go very wrong, very quickly so I did not have super high expectations going into this. Touch blew those expectations out of the water.

I am absolutely smitten with this book. I would recommend this book to fans of Jennifer Armentrout, Brigid Kemmerer, and Sarah J Maas. If you have a chance, PLEASE DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND READ TOUCH!

Favorite Quote:

“Some mortals indeed love well, but most don’t. And none do it perfectly."

What I liked:

  • The writing
  • The dynamic between Love and Andrew
  • Every single character in this dang book
  • The smut (heh heh)
  • THE COVER?!?!?! It’s beautiful
  • Character development. I can’t praise this book enough for what it did with the characters.
