reversed approach

Playing Cards Divination

If you donot have your own set of tarot/oracle cards. you can use normal playing cards instead!

How to

Use them just like oracle/tarot cards.
First charge the deck, you do this by holding them in your dominant hand and pushing your energy into them, then touch each card one by one. fan the deck out in your non-dominant hand and ask for guidance and clear readings (from who ever you want readings to be influenced by, eg: god/dess, universe, spirits) From here I like to start with a little game to make sure the cards are giving me accurate readings, pick a person you know really well, then ask the deck for a card that represents that person the best, find the meaning, and if the card is accurate you’re good to go. if not cleanse it in the moon light or under salt then try again (you can skip this step, it just lets me know my cards are accurate and it also shows me a bit of the personality of the deck) Now you are ready for your reading, you can do a simple single card draw for advise to keep in mind for the day, or a 3 card draw 1- past 2-present 3- future, there are of cause a bunch of very complicated card spreads and alot of simple once, they aren’t hard to find

A continuation of this that I didn’t think I’d actually do but…here it is anyway.  Again, Blackmadhi, with implied past Blackbright/Phantomquill and a lot of focus on Simon’s mental state.  Deals once again with Simon’s PTSD and includes descriptions of a panic attack.  Approx. 2600 words.

After that first night, Simon would be lying if he said that things hadn’t gotten better with Nahyuta within the next couple of days.

The investigation seemed to run smoother, and even though they still bickered some, it was mostly teasing, and the two prosecutors would smile at each other after delivering some half-hearted insults. Yes, once in a while they would actually get frustrated, but that was mostly due to the contrasts in their personalities.  Luckily, it would not really last.

Nahyuta was even able to find a local restaurant that specialized in Japanese food, and surprised Simon with that one evening, which had made him smile rather happily instead of just giving one of his trademark sly smirks.  He could have sworn he saw Nahyuta’s cheeks tinge pink after that, but perhaps he had just imagined it, because the foreign prosecutor had turned his face away.

Even the nights had gotten a little bit better, if only because Nahyuta had been able to drag him out of his nightmares almost as quickly as they began.  Each time he slept, as soon as Fulbright’s face materialized in his mind, Nahyuta was gently shaking Simon awake.  It was poetic, Simon couldn’t help but think…when Fulbright’s face – only existing in his unconscious thoughts – disappeared and Nahyuta’s took its place. At times, Simon had felt an overwhelming urge to reach out and touch the other prosecutor’s features…his cheeks, his hair, his lips…if only because Simon wanted to make sure that he was real.

And that his face was actually his own.

  • It Starts With Food: This New York Times Bestselling book is the template for a 30 day program called the Whole30. You can read more about what exactly a Whole30 is here. Chapter 21 of It Starts with Food specifically covers how to complete a successful Whole30 while also following the Autoimmune Protocol.
  • The Paleo Approach: This is the best compilation of information on Autoimmune Paleo out there! It covers everything from the science behind autoimmune diseases, to the logic behind the Autoimmune Protocol and then how to implement it within your own life and trouble shoot any problems as they arise. Take a peek at my review of The Paleo Approach here. Later this year, the companion The Paleo Approach Cookbook will be released, too!
  • The Autoimmune Paleo Cookbook: This is the first Autoimmune Paleo cookbook ever to be printed! Not only is it packed full of recipes, but it’s also got extra resources like meal plans and shopping lists. You can also check out the earlier ebook version here

Auto Immune Protocol Websites:

  1. A Clean Plate: Christina’s site is a treasure trove of delicious recipes that prove that a restricted or adapted diet doesn’t have to mean being deprived of food that is both pleasurable and nutritious!
  2. Alternative Autoimmune: This site is run by a health coach, which means it has all kinds of juicy information on Autoimmune Paleo and living with Autoimmune challenges, in addition to some tasty recipes. I especially like Angie’s adaptations of traditional holiday menus like Christmas and Thanksgiving.
  3.  Autoimmune Paleo: Mickey is the author of the very first Autoimmune Paleo Cookbook, not to mention a personal chef! She uses AIP to manage two different Autoimmune diseases – Hashimoto’s and Celiac. Her website is packed full of easy recipes that embrace the variety you can find within the Autoimmune protocol rather than the restrictions. You can take a peek at The Autoimmune Paleo Cookbook in hardcover here or take a look at the original ebook version here.
  4. AIP Lifestyle: Jessica is a Clinical Nutritionist and her site is GORGEOUS. Most importantly for me – since I’m somewhat food obsessed – is that her recipes are a) awesome and b) beautiful. If you thought you couldn’t have BBQ Chicken or an AIP Gravy, Jessica will show you how you CAN, while still being AIP compliant.
  5. Chowstalker: This Paleo recipe sharing site has its own Autoimmune Paleo category – it’s a great place to go to get inspired about what you CAN eat!
  6. Gutsy By Nature: Not everything here is AIP, but all the recipes are clearly marked when they are suitable. Jaime is using Paleo to heal her Crohn’s disease and you can read more about her here.
  7.  My Big Fat Grain Free Life: If a self confessed “gluten loving Italian” can go grain free without throwing in the towel and yelling “Fugettaboutit!”, then there’s hope for the rest of us! Jen has great approachable recipes and shares her AIP journey honestly & openly.
  8. Phoenix Helix: Eileen is quite the AIP Authority! She writes about all aspects of living while following the Autoimmune Protocol and she’s also the Autoimmune Ambassador over on Chowstalker! She hosts the weekly AIP Recipe Roundtable at her site, so you should definitely check that out for inspiration.
  9. The Paleo Mom: Sarah has only ended up at the bottom of this list because it’s in alphabetical order! She’s a powerhouse of knowledge about Autoimmune Paleo and makes the science behind it accessible and understandable: that’s no mean feat! She’s also the author of the definitive guide to Autoimmune Paleo – her newly released book The Paleo Approach.

As a fitness/nutrition enthusiast, I am regularly asked the question “what is your diet like?”  To which I usually reply, “Well.. It’s complicated.  Would you like the short answer or the long answer?”

For all you short attention span type out there, (I feel you, because I can be one of them) my diet is called IIFYM (if it fits your macros), otherwise known as flexible dieting.  Currently, my IIFYM diet is coupled with a reverse dieting approach to help me reach my goal weight, while simultaneously raising my metabolic capacity.  I don’t do meal plans and definitely none of that ‘Eat every 2-3 hours to stoke your metabolic fire (what’s a metabolic fire anyway?? LOL) baloney!“

If that wasn't enough for you, keep reading.

There are a few components to the IIFYM part of my diet :

1.  I precisely count my macros by weighing (food-scale) and tracking (macros+ app, myfitnesspal) food.

2.  I don’t do cheat meals or cheat days– I use refeed days (basically, a boost in carbs once a week to refill glycogen stores).  For the most part, I’m against cheal meals/days.  There is no structure to them and one binge-like meal or day can set you back 1-3 weeks. It’s too easy to fall completely off the wagon and the aftermath is never pretty.  Plus, the IIFYM lifestyle is so flexible that I have no cravings or need for a cheat.

 3.  Did I mention that I DO NOT do meal plans?  I specifically sought out my current coach because I knew he’d help me get away from the meal plan mentality.  Tuna, potato, and broccoli are great foods (tilapia isn’t), but I was no way in hell feeling eating that stuff 6-8 times a day.  The beauty of flexible dieting is just that– it’s flexible!  It allows for me to eat things like Cereal, Cottage Cheese, fruit, luna bars, tortillas, and cheese; heck, I can even grab food when I’m in town and enjoy a restaurant meal with a loved one, as long as I plan for it and stick to my macros!

4.  Meal-Frequency isn’t a big deal with IIFYM.  You know that whole eat every 2-3 hours a day advice?  Well yeah, it don’t work for me (*bad grammar intentional).  Typically I try to get some protein in every 5 hours and sip amino acids in-between meals, but it’s not necessary that I eat rabbit portions, in order to stoke an imaginary metabolic fire, lol. I eat maybe 3-4 meals a day and greatly prefer it this way.  Why do I like eating a smaller amount of meals?  Well for starters, I’m not thinking about food ALL day long.  It has allowed for bigger portions that reach my satiety needs, rather than teasing them every 2 hours.  Also, I have much more flexiblity in my diet to eat whatever I want– in moderation (once my micronutrient and fiber needs have been reached).

5.  I eat carbs– HALLELUJAH!  I eat fat– double, HALLELUJAH!!!  If you’re training and you try to cut out yo carbs.. you goin have a bad time…….  If you like having beautiful skin, great hair, and a high libido and you try to cut yo fats?  You goin have a f'real bad time.  Eat yo cahbs and fats, dammit!  Also, never trust a diet that extremely limits or cuts out a macronutrient.    The word macro is included to indicate that it’s a primary human nutrient need.  Seems pretty common sense-ish to me..

The Reverse Dieting part of my diet:

Allow me to explain its grandiousness..

Reverse dieting increases your calories week by week in very small increments (for example, my coach usually increases all of my macros by 10 gm of carbohydrates and 1 gm fats weekly).  Reverse dieting is usually implemented by individuals that are looking to reset, or raise their metabolic capacities after coming out of a cut (caloric deficit) or those who have mistakenly done some serious metabolic damage through excess cardio and lowering essential macronutrients to the e x t r e m e (I can be an extreme kind of person and I totally get the whole 'go hard or go home mentality’, but unfortunately, our body does not always abide on the same principle.  You go too hard?  Things  can shut-down!  Trust me, I know from personal experience).  However ‘weight gain’ is not the goal, despite the fact that you are adding calories weekly.  The ultimate goal is to get total calories as high as possible before you start to see that scale weight start to increase.  Then, you will know your maintenance.

Why should you reverse-diet before beginning a cut?

Imagine this:  Say you’re going to start a diet so you directly cut your calories to 1,500 (for most women with a healthy metabolism, this is maybe 1,000  calories or so below maintenance level).  Week by week you cut 100 calories until you’re maybe down to 1,200 calories and an hour of cardio per day.  Thing are going well weightloss wise, until you hit a plateau and things start to go haywire.  Energy levels plummet, hair is falling out, your strength is fleeting, and you might even begin gaining weight.  In a panic, you decide to cut your calories even more and add in 30 more minutes of cardio.  HOLD-UP!  This is not the way to go.

 Enter.. Reverse Dieting.

What can Reverse Dieting do for you?

  1.  Reverse Dieting will help maintain a healthy metabolism and raise your metabolic capacity, so that when you begin a cut you can start out with a higher amount of calories, and reduce macros in very small increments; in the same fashion that you added them in.

  2.  Reverse Dieting will allow you to scientifically determine what your exact maintenance intake is– down to the number.  Reverse dieting is based on actual SCIENCE, not bro-scientist field-work.

  3. It will set yourself up for a successful cut.  If you start with more calories you have more to detract from, without having to reduce to obscene levels and performing ridiculous amounts of cardiovascular activity.

  4. It will set yourself up for a better bulk.  Instead of shoveling food into your mouth to see dem muscle gains, why not try a scientific approach?  Reverse Dieting will allow you to avoid fat-gain overload.

  5. You can eat MORE FOOD!!!!!  I <3 Food. :)

  6. You can perform better in the gym, lift heavier weight, and not feel like your muscles are catabalizing when you’re doing cardio (is that only me?).  Yay.

  7. Reverse Dieting can help you Maintain your current weight.  The statistics are such: 95% of Americans that lose weight are unable to keep it off permanently.  Reverse Dieting is a great maintenance plan!

In essence, this is my current diet!  Yes, I know that it is complicated.  A diet this complicated is not necessary for everybody that wants to shed some weight (go ahead and eat your low-cal microwave meals), but it's necessary if you want to enter into the competitive world of bodybuilding.  Let me know if you have any questions whatsoever.  I’d be more than happy to help you out.

 Stay happy, Stay healthy!

Random thought, but imagine Reverse Dipper doing the whole “I’m so cute and precious” thing that Gideon does to get what he wants out of Stan and Ford. While Mabel just pulls a Pacifica-esque “I’m perfect and thus I can get whatever I want” but is more independent about it while Dipper is more sneaky.

Rev!Ford and Rev!Mabel end up having a lot of arguments because of that, but Stan is very encouraging of both children’s tactics to get what they want out of life.

Rev!Stan isn’t naive, he just can’t say no to Dipper’s adorable little face and Mabel’s direct approach.

What should I do on a date with my SD?  Honey, put on your party dress ...

A SB sent me the following question:

Hi! I’m a SB currently and I wanted to know what you like to go out and do when you’re out with your SB? I would like to throw some ideas at my SD because he always likes to try something new

In response to my request for some details, she wrote:

We have a flexible schedule that can accommodate meetings in the afternoon and evenings for more than a couple hours, all day if it’s necessary. Weekdays and weekends

Let’s picture the following scenario:  you have been with your SD for at least a couple of months now, and things are going well.  You are comfortable with him and have a great time when you’re together.  You see him on a regular basis and look forward to it every single time.  Things are just easy, and natural:  you have great conversations, have some great laughs, the sex is great and the money is right.  A perfect situation!  In order to keep riding that wave, you want to know how to “mix things up” on dates, especially since your SD always is willing to try new things.  So, what to do?

To set the tone for the thoughts I’m going to offer, I’m going to borrow a couple of lines from Tom Petty:

Honey, put on that party dress
Buy me a drink, sing me a song
Take me as I come ‘cause I can’t stay long

Man, I love that song!  And, although I simply can’t picture Tom Petty as the quintessential SD, lol, I think these lyrics really capture the mood that I’m trying to describe.  In other words, a good arrangement is like a bubble, a special place inhabited by only you and your SD, the real world doesn’t exist while you are together; school, work, vanilla friends, vanilla relationships and the day to day routine things in life don’t matter for that short time.  When the date is over, and you go your separate ways for the night, the bubble “pops” and you’re back in your vanilla world.  And, in a bigger sense, the arrangement itself is a bubble and, at some point, it’s going to pop, because no bubble lasts forever.  Again, quoting from the Poet,

I was introduced and we both started groovin’
She said, “I dig you baby, but I got to keep movin’ on
Keep movin’ on”

So, the key is to make that time together count!

When you are with an “established” SD, a guy kinda set in his ways and routines, the dates are, of course, going to follow a very familiar script, especially if he is the one who likes to take the lead.  But, for the sake of being complete, let me just note a couple of those things:

Dinners or lunches at different restaurants (hopefully interesting places that you wouldn’t otherwise get to go to)

Drinks and dancing

Plays, operas, musicals, symphonies

Couples massage and/or a trip to the spa for an afternoon

Sporting events

An afternoon/evening at a hotel

Shopping (As an aside here, and by way of full disclosure, I really hate shopping, lol!  Not because I don’t want to spend the money on my SB, but rather, for me, shopping is just so boring and really doesn’t provide an opportunity to engage with my SB while it’s going on.  Instead, I just find myself getting led from rack to rack like a little kid, saying, ooh and awww at the things she picks out!  If you have a SD that has a good fashion eye and enjoys that process, this obviously will not be a problem, but my SBs know better than to ask me to go shopping.  lol)

Okay, so that is a partial list of all the “standard” and “stock” things to do, and, hey, they are great, don’t get me wrong.  But, our SB here has a SD that is “always willing to try something new”, so let’s go ahead and “mix it up”, just a bit!

And why is it good to capitalize on an opportunity like this?  Always remember that you, as a SB are providing a service, an experience for him, in other words, that he just cannot and does not get anywhere else. And, the better and more memorable the service and experience, the more committed he will be to the arrangement!  Also keep in mind the reasons why this guy is with you and providing financial support:

(1) he wants to fuck a beautiful young woman, and not just have sex, but good sex, off the hook sex!  (Okay, so, I’m a guy, lol and that’s why I put that first, but realize, without the next things on the list, he can find someone else to have sex with!);

(2) he wants to tap into and feel energized by your “youth”, your vigor, your zest for life;

(3) he wants an opportunity to see things through your eyes for the time you are together because that makes him feel vital and energized;

(4) he wants to feel young again himself;

(5) he wants to connect with the things that YOU are interested in, excited about and that stimulate your mind and senses; and, finally,

(6) he wants to do shit that he would never think of on his own because his life, business and vanilla pressures and stresses have eroded that part of his brain over the years!

With this in mind, let’s take a look at some things to do, and, first, I’ll start with variations on a couple of the things listed above:

Do some roleplaying!  For example, meet at a bar, but not as a couple! In other words, tell him that you’ll be sitting at the bar, and he has to approach you like you’ve never met, and he has to “pick you up.”  Have fun with that scenario:  play “hard to get” or “tease him” or be really flirtatious and open to his advances or be shy and innocent or make him “work” for it or “make it really easy”.  The variations are endless but, in the end, make sure that you provide that male ego a boost that is going to make him feel successful and accomplished, that he’s still got that sex appeal!  And then, the next time, reverse it!  You approach him in the bar, work your “freestyling” magic, be provocative, sexy, outgoing, etc., you get the idea!  My SB and I have played with this roleplaying thing to great effect!  The first time, when I approached her “as a total stranger”, we ended up having sex in the parking lot against my car!  The second time, when she approached me, she ended up almost convincing a cute bartender to close early and join us for a threesome back at the hotel.

At a restaurant, sit side by side, instead of across from each other.  This, for some reason, always unnerves the waiters and other guests, but I love it.  During the conversation, take his hand and gently guide it up your legs, under your skirt.  Let him feel that you don’t have underwear on.  Watch his eyes get big!  Lol! Or, make a discrete show of taking your underwear off while at the table and placing your panties casually on his lap. That will get his attention!

And, not all dates have to involve sex, well, at least not at first.  haha! Don’t be afraid to expose him to the types of things YOU like, things that are going on in your town that you want to do and that you want to share with him.  Some examples:

Go to a poetry reading some evening

Go to a bar that features a band that you like

Go to a hookah bar!

Go to some special event that is town, like Zombiecon, a tattoo convention (I love women with tattoos, by the way!), a medieval fair, offbeat things like that!

If both of you are 420-friendly or –curious, get a room (put towels against the door, lol) and blaze for an afternoon and talk philosophy!

Go to a park (preferably one that doesn’t prohibit alcohol, lol) and have a picnic, including nice wine, bread and cheese!

To get more ideas, pick up a local or college newspaper that caters to highlighting artistic and social things going on in town.

The point here is to use your time together as a means to open your world to him, to give him a chance to be young (or younger) again.  As you can see, this sort of approach greatly enhances the experience that you provide as part of your service and is fun!  More importantly, this approach satisfies his wants, his desire to be in an arrangement with you and fulfills his “needs” that I listed above.  And why do those needs and wants get fulfilled if you do this?  Well, I’ll let the Tom Petty answer that last question:

Well, I don’t know, but I’ve been told
You never slow down, you never grow old

I couldn’t have said it better myself!

(Seraicraft) Reverse Adoptions

It’s about time we talk about our new approach to Reverse Adoptions here at @seraicraft. As it goes, the spirits we work with are often torn between a few lovely applicants, but ultimately pressed to make the difficult choice of selecting just one. It’s as difficult for them to say “no” as it is for you to hear it, so we’ve been quietly testing a new approach for handling instances of rejection.

It’s now official! In all possible cases, we will be happy to offer an RA (at no extra cost) to those who apply for a spirit, only to be turned down.

How does it work? Well, when we message you to give you the news, we will let you know right away if there are any friends or family members in the spirit’s network (of the same species) who have stepped forward with interest in you. If that individual has already been vetted as a future pre-conjure candidate for the shop, the process will be quick! We will write a profile up, and you will be the first in line to determine if the spirit is right for you. If the answer is yes, then congratulations! The match will proceed as normal.

If there are no immediate candidates or if the spirit who steps forward has not yet been vetted, the process will take a week or two. We will do our best to find a spirit of the same species who is drawn to your energy, and of course, whose personality as comparable as possible to the individual who first charmed you.

To be clear: there are no obligations regarding the spirit who comes forward for you in a reverse adoption; however, we will only offer this service once per rejected application (and in the event of excessive applications that lead to rejection, it will be left to the conjurer’s discretion).

We know rejection is tough! We hope this method will offer you a little confidence when you’re biting your nails over an application, dreading what you’ll hear back. Go ahead and take a chance. <3

Week 25 of the #YearOfStitch : Brighton Stitch

This one plays tricks on the eyes in a seriously cool way! This one could go on forever and ever and never get boring. I like to work the four outside squares and then drop a vertical cross stitch into the middle. Have at it!

Photos for you…

over 2, up 2

repeat that approach in reverse

keep working around the square

one down

drop a horizontal cross stitch into the middle

Create as many as you like

drop in those cross stitches

and done.

Earth's magnetic field is NOT about to flip

The weakening intensity of the Earth’s magnetic field may actually be coming down to normal rather than approaching a reversal, a new study says.

The intensity of the Earth’s magnetic field has been weakening for the last couple of hundred years, leading some scientists to think that its polarity might be about to flip.

what with the new resurgence of rick rolling, a new meme approaches: the reverse rick roll.  a link or audio post that is clearly a rick roll, but instead of linking to Rick Astley’s “Never Gonna Give You Up”, a different song or video is played.  memes are developing sub-memes. memes are evolving. this has gone too far and i am afraid.

jeonjunkfood  asked:

can we talk about how jungkook always holds jimin in a specific way: one hand on his bicep, the other on his shoulder?? it makes me wanna scream

YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Jikook hugging will be the death of me tbvh. Okay hold on! before i get to the specific way of kook holding jimin, i feel like sharing this with you (Yes i did some research bout hugs just cause I’m such trash XD)

Does this sound familiar to you???

Reverse hug- One person approaches the other from behind and puts arms around waist with full body touch and possible leans head on shoulder. hugged person puts hands over hugging hands and possibly leans back with head against huggers head.”

“It means Relaxed affection between trusting partners”

OR this?

Lovers , as anticipated, have more freedom to touch each other and wish to express more passion and caring. In this case, the man and his partner have a sort of standard setup to embrace each other:

The man will lay his arms around the waist or lower back of his lover and pull closer around the hip area, while the lover will wrap  hands around his neck or shoulders, or will lay hands gently on his chest

Does this scream jikook enough????

This is personally my fav-kook pulled jimin slightly towards him, while swaying to the music. After watching bts’s vids, I totally get that Kook loves to hold other members this way (he did it with Yoongi and hobi , but they’re no more than just friendly touches, not a single sign of intimacy, tho there’re still signs of affection and admiration) but doesn’t this look way too intimate to be called a bro-thing? He never does this with other members, not that i know of. Is it just me being delusional? I hope not. This was off cam btw. so no pretense defs.

ONE HAND ON SHOULDER, THE OTHER ON HIS BICEP. possessive af, don’t you think? I mean…

What’s more comforting than resting your head on your boyfriend’s shoulder?

I swear he has Jimin’s arm fetish.

Yeah he had to be behind Jimin. just had to.

I mean, Who’s the birthday boy here? He thought that it was a perfect time to flirt with Jimin? In the middle of bday boy’s speech? Mindblowing.

Of course he had to be with Jimin on his birthday.

*these were taken from V App vids ONLY. I’m afraid I’d not get ANY sleep if I were to include other moments XDDD. I mean, J.U.S.T L.O.O.K A.T T.H.E.M*

Look at him fondling Jimin’s jacket. He didn’t realize that, did he? Cause that’s such a normal thing to do

Old Drug Offers New Hope to Treat Alzheimer’s Disease

Scientists from the Gladstone Institutes have discovered that salsalate, a drug used to treat rheumatoid arthritis, effectively reversed tau-related dysfunction in an animal model of frontotemporal dementia (FTD). Salsalate prevented the accumulation of tau in the brain and protected against cognitive impairments resembling impairments seen in Alzheimer’s disease and FTD.

Salsalate inhibits tau acetylation, a chemical process that can change the function and properties of a protein. Published in Nature Medicine, the researchers revealed that acetylated tau is a particularly toxic form of the protein, driving neurodegeneration and cognitive deficits. Salsalate successfully reversed these effects in a mouse model of FTD, lowering tau levels in the brain, rescuing memory impairments, and protecting against atrophy of the hippocampus—a brain region essential for memory formation that is impacted by dementia.

“We identified for the first time a pharmacological approach that reverses all aspects of tau toxicity,” says co-senior author Li Gan, PhD, an associate investigator at the Gladstone Institutes. “Remarkably, the profound protective effects of salsalate were achieved even though it was administered after disease onset, indicating that it may be an effective treatment option.”

Although tau has been a target in dementia research for some time, there are no tau-targeted drugs available for patients. Additionally, how the protein builds up in the brain, causing toxicity and contributing to disease, still remains largely a mystery.

By investigating post-mortem brains with Alzheimer’s disease, Dr. Gan’s team found that tau acetylation is one of the first signs of pathology, even before tau tangles are detectable. The acetylated form of tau not only marked disease progression, it also served as a driver for tau accumulation and toxicity. What’s more, in an animal model of FTD, when tau was acetylated, neurons had reduced ability to degrade the protein, causing it to build up in the brain. This in turn led to atrophy in the region and cognitive impairment in the mice on several different memory tests.

The Gladstone scientists discovered that salsalate can inhibit the enzyme p300 in the brain, which is elevated in Alzheimer’s disease and triggers acetylation. Blocking tau acetylation in this way enhanced tau turnover and effectively reduced tau levels in the brain. This reversed the tau-induced memory deficits and prevented loss of brain cells.

“Targeting tau acetylation could be a new therapeutic strategy against human tauopathies, like Alzheimer’s disease and FTD,” says co-senior author Eric Verdin, MD, a senior investigator at the Gladstone Institutes. “Given that salsalate is a prescription drug with a long-history of a reasonable safety profile, we believe it can have immediate clinical implications.”

The scientists say a clinical trial using salsalate to reduce tau levels in progressive supranuclear palsy, another tau-mediated neurological condition, has already been initiated.

Client Education Week | Art Director Vanessa Solis

Ed Week came to me with an article about the way our past has shaped current education policy and programs. It was a really interesting plea to remember that we’ve come to where we have for a reason and while there are certainly flaws in our school system today, that doesn’t mean we outright reverse our progress. The approach should be to continue to refine and tweak the system, remembering what led us where we are.
