This cel art is from Joker 3100, an ancient artbook released by Mamoru Nagano from the late 80s.
Basically, this is Nagano’s vision for what an Five Star Stories anime adaptation
would have looked like at the time. More simple character designs,
detailed backgrounds, and more oil stains on the Mortar Headds. Compare
this to the actual movie by Sunrise and you can see how different his
vision was, it was much less of a shoujo fantasy and more of a fairy
tale war epic. It’s interesting to see how his vision has changed from
back then to now, with Gothicmade (the movie) being his current vision
for an FSS anime adaptation.
Nagano once intended to direct his own short half-hour Five Star Stories OVA, titled “Tales of Joker”, a few years before this artbook was released. It was supposed to be animated by Gainax (the ad makes special mention of Hideaki Anno), as a way of promoting the FSS resin kits for their Otaku merchandise store (General Products), sadly other than an ancient snippet from the magazine for the
fifth Wonder Festival, this project never saw the light of day. This all happened a few years before the official FSS movie by Sunrise went into production.
These images may have been remnants of the production art for that abandoned film.
I’ve been spending the last week assembling my very first herb witch starter kit!
My friend gave me this fantastic cubbyhole box and as soon as I saw it I knew what I’d be using it for.
This is my first attempt, so I don’t have everything I had my eye on yet, but it’s as complete as it’s going to be for the time being.
I have 54 herbs and resins in my kit, some that I purchased and others that I pilfered from my parents spice cabinet, or my own.
- Blessed Thistle - St. John’s Wort -Vervain
- Mugwort - White Horehound - Juniper Berries
- Lady’s Mantle - Motherwort - Damiana
- Red Clover - Calendula Petals - Gardenia Fruits
- Agrimony - Mullien Leaves - Licorice Root
- Honeysuckle - Nettle Leaf - Dandelion Leaf
- Ground Ivy - Buckwheat Herb - Jamaican Dogwood
- Lavender - Chamomile - Hibiscus
- Neem Powder - Rose Petals - Pink Himalayan Salt
- Jasmine Flowers - Linseed - Fennel
- Black Salt - Paprika - Chilli Flakes
- Safflower - Cardamon - Tumeric
-Cinnamon Sticks - Thyme - Oregano
- Rosemary - Parsley - Basil
- Mulukhiya - Chives - Nutmeg
- Ground Cumin - Ground Ginger - Cayenne Pepper
-Ground Chia - Dammar Resin - Amber Resin
- Vatican Mix - 4-Star Resin - Frankincense
You can probably tell which ones came from my kitchen and which ones I bought. I’m having a lot of fun reading up on elixirs, spells and teas you can make with these herbs as well as planning out my herb grimoire. If anyone has any tips for a baby herb witch send them my way please, I have so much to learn!
Having trouble with consistency when drawing your comic?
Want a cool sculpture of your favorite OC??
Want some merch to sell at a convention table???
Hi, I’m Travis and I’m looking for commission work. Speaking of work, look at those pics above again for a second. Not enough? Quality too low? Check out my instagram, or just browse my tumblr archive.
Did you like that? Well, thanks! So, do you think it’d be cool to have your own art made into a sculpture? Well, shoot me an email with some reference images and I’ll give you a quote!
Recommended reference! It’d be best if your reference was orthographic (at least front and side, ¾ wouldn’t be bad either) specific textures you might want, close up drawings of important smaller details, etc.
Whatever reference I get, that’s what the thing will look like (most likely*)!
Process and Pricing:
I sculpt using Castilene, which is a wax. This is NOT the final material of the piece. The sculpt will be molded in silicone and your final piece will be cast in a hard urethane plastic, which means if you’d like to get multiples of your commission then that can happen (note: extras will cost more).
Pricing varies on complexity, size of the piece, etc. As a base sum, expect it to be over $100 USD covering all materials and labor, however it should be noted this price may increase or decrease due to complexity, size of the piece, whether it’s a headsculpt, or a bust, or a full body figure, etc.
Interested at all? Just wanna pick my brain? Shoot me an email at firstname.lastname@example.org
*As I sculpt the figure, I will keep you updated with progress pictures where you may send notes if the pose is looking off, if shapes aren’t quite right, if things aren’t looking perfect for you, etc. However, please be reasonable! There can be some major differences between how something looks two dimensional and how it looks sculpted!
Disclaimers: What you see in my sculpts? That’s what I’m good at. Please don’t commission me for a hyper realistic Hugh Jackman complete with every single pore on his face (or anything in that vein), because it almost definitely won’t turn out good and neither of us will feel good about it.
I’m not gonna make art of licensed properties, unless you own the license. Sorry, I don’t want to be sued!
I retain the right to refuse a commission for any reason whatsoever. Mostly I just don’t want to do lewd art or have to try and interpret bad reference art (or violate copyright laws). If you’re not sure whether your reference fits these categories, just ask.
I’ll likely only be doing one or two of these at a time.
I will charge you after the final sculpt is approved by you and before I cast it. This will ensure that I can cover cost of material and won’t waste time making a mold of something I haven’t been paid for.
The Volks 1/100 Jagd Mirage Twin Tower, considered by many to be the greatest Five Star Stories model kit ever made, if not the greatest mecha model kit ever made. This bad boy ran for $2000 back when it was released in 1999 and stood 50cm tall to the top of the head and had cannons that measured over 2 meters. The scariest part about this monster is that building it is even more challenging than finding an original copy of it nowadays.
Finished! I sculpted something for the first time since high school and added in my own mini Rocky from Shingeki no Bahamut: Virgin Soul. Every zombie girl needs a dismembered hand assistant. Bride of Frankenstein originally sculpted by Munchkin and the recast purchased from e2046
Coming from the Japanese company T-Facto! This is a Godzilla 2014 resin kit. It’s 31 cm in height and 46 cm in length, and is made with 20 parts. The price is 35,000 yen (with a discount price of 31,000 if you order before Nov 30th). Orders are being accepted now. Release should be in mid-November 2015. This will not be available in the US, as one should expect.
